The work aims to examine the linguocreative specificity of metaphor generation in L. N. Tolstoy’s prose. The article ascertains that metaphor is not only a language category but also the result of the writer’s linguocreative activity, metaphorical expressions figuratively convey meanings and possess suggestive characteristics. Scientific novelty is accounted for by the fact that the study of metaphors in L. N. Tolstoy’s prose is carried out from the linguocreative perspectives, which are also the result of the writer’s creative activity. As a result, it is being proved that L. N. Tolstoy’s literary and artistic creativity is realised in an unconventional combination of lexemes, which generates metaphorical images and testifies to the unique linguistic feeling and great skill of the literary artist.
