Optimization and mechanical response of modular infusion compaction and normalization

Modular infusion (MI) is utilized to eliminate dry spot defects within complex multi-architecture composites by segregating and controlling flow fronts in-process. Compaction, employed to arrest in-plane flow, results in a crimp witness, which can be eliminated through MI fiber bed normalization. However, the MI normalization techniques generate voids within the cured components. To study the mechanisms that control the MI fiber bed normalization process, an in-process X-ray computed tomography (XCT) approach is developed to provide a visualization of fiber bed thickness and void distribution. Inner bag regulation during normalization is identified as the primary cause of the void generation. C-scans on a cured panel corroborate XCT findings, as well as validating the quality of the panel produced for subsequent mechanical test samples. Hence, it is demonstrated that the approach enables the optimization of a MI manufacturing process, which is supported by the findings of the mechanical characterization campaign. Flexural tests were carried out in three and four-point bend testing using samples cut from the panel, with Digital Image Correlation (DIC) providing comparative measurements for a baseline and MI case. Flexural testing of MI samples showed that a comparable mean strength and stiffness to that of the baseline material was achieved, demonstrating complete restoration of material thickness and mechanical properties during the optimised MI process.

Dealing with Missing Angular Sections in NanoCT Reconstructions of Low Contrast Polymeric Samples Employing a Mechanical In Situ Loading Stage.

While in situ experiments are gaining importance for the (mechanical) assessment of metamaterials or materials with complex microstructures, imaging conditions in such experiments are often challenging. The lab-based computed tomography system Xradia 810 Ultra allows for the in situ (time-lapsed) mechanical testing of samples. However, the in situ loading setup of this system limits the image acquisition angle to 140°. For low contrast polymeric materials, this limited acquisition angle leads to regions of low information gain, thus preventing an accurate reconstruction of the data using a filtered back projection algorithm resulting in erroneous microstructures. Here, we demonstrate how the information gain can be improved by selecting an appropriate position of the sample. A low contrast polymeric tetrahedral microlattice sample and a structured sample with specific markers, both scanned over 140° and 180°, demonstrate that the missing structural details in the 140° reconstruction are limited to an angular wedge of about 20°. Depending on the sample geometry and microstructure, applying simple strategies for the in situ experiments allows accurate reconstruction of the data. For the tetrahedral microlattice, a simple rotation of the sample by 90° rotates all relevant surfaces by about 30° to the original illumination direction, creating a more even X-ray illumination for all the projections, thus providing enough X-ray absorption for an accurate reconstruction of the geometry.

Adding Rare Earth Oxide Markers to Polyoxymethylene to Improve Plastic Recycling through Tracer-Based Sorting.

Engineering plastics, such as polyoxymethylene (POM), are high-performance thermoplastics designed to withstand high temperature or mechanical stress and are used in electronic equipment, the automotive industry, construction, or specific household utensils. POM is immiscible with other plastics but due to a low volume of production, no methods were developed to separate it from the residual plastic waste stream. Therefore, POM recycling is minimal despite its high market value. This paper provides a proof of concept for tracer-based sorting (TBS) as a potential solution for increasing the separation efficiency of low-volume, high-quality polymers. For this purpose, yttrium oxide (Y2O3) and cerium (IV) oxide (CeO2) have been embedded into the POM matrix. Mechanical tests of samples at varying concentrations (0.1 to 1000 ppm) of both tracers were conducted, followed by an analysis of detectability and dispersibility using a portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (p-XRF), subsequently optimizing detection time and tracer concentration. Finally, an experimental scenario was developed to test the fate and potential recovery of the tracer material after the thermal treatment of plastics. A low detectable concentration, short measurement time, low influence on mechanical parameters of the compound, and low loss ratio after simulated recycling prove Y2O3 to be a suitable tracer for the industrial implementation of TBS.

Impact of the preservation media on ex vivo bone samples for full field mechanical testing

The preservation method to store bone tissue for posterior analysis is a widespread practice. However, the method’s potential influence on the material’s mechanical properties is often overlooked during single-point experimentation. Saline and formaldehyde solutions are the most common among the employed preservation media. A full field analysis of the mice femoral bone deformation using non-destructive optical techniques is conducted to assess the influence of the storage media on the viscoelastic properties of the tissue. Three different groups are subjected to a standard three-point bending test. The first group is the control, with fresh post-mortem samples. The second and third groups used saline and formaldehyde solutions, respectively. During the mechanical test, the bone’s surface and internal deformation are monitored simultaneously using digital holographic interferometry and Fourier-domain optical coherence tomography. A mechanical comparison among the three groups is presented. The results show that after 48 h of immersion in saline solution, the mice bones keep their viscoelastic behavior similar to fresh bones. Meanwhile, 48 h in formaldehyde modifies the response and affects the marrow structure. The high sensitivity of the optical phase also makes it possible to observe changes in the anisotropy of the samples. As a comparison, Raman spectroscopy analyzes the three bone groups to prove that the preservation media does not affect a single-point inspection.

Mechanical properties of jabon (Neolamarckia cadamba (Roxb.) Bosser) wood 13 years old and its potential utilization as a structural material

Jabon (Neolamarckia cadamba (Roxb.) Bosser) is a type of fast-growing tree that is expected to meet the national demand for wood because it has fast-growing properties. This study’s objective was to examine the mechanical properties of 13 years old jabon wood based on its position in the stem. The preparation of mechanical properties test samples and their tests refer to the British Standard (BS) 373 Methods of testing small clear specimens of timber and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D143 Standard test method for small clear specimens of timber. Based on the results of the study, the stem parts (bottom, middle, and top) had no significant effect on the mechanical properties of wood except for the compressive strength parallel to the grain and hardness. In general, the mechanical properties showed an increase from the bottom to the top of the stem and from the pith toward the bark, although there were some differences. The mechanical properties of jabon wood obtained from this study generally showed higher values than jabon wood used in other studies with younger ages, although in general, it did not change the category of jabon wood from strength class III-IV. However, its use as a structural material would be more profitable than using a younger age of jabon wood, as it is usually harvested so far.

Investigation of Deposition Parameters for Near-Beta Alloy Ti-55511 Fabricated by Directed Energy Deposition

The directed energy deposition (DED) parameters were determined for near-β alloy Ti-55511 by employing statistical design of experiments (DOEs) methods. Parameters resulting in fully dense freeform deposits were identified using two sequential DOEs. Single laser tracks were printed with several laser power, traverse rate, and powder feed rate settings in an initial DOE to identify promising build parameters. The capture efficiency and effective deposition rate were used to characterize and rank the single track deposits. The best parameters were then used to print a solid cube with various X–Y and Z overlaps (different hatch spacing, HS, and layer thickness, ZS) in a second DOE. Suitable deposition parameters were selected based on the cube density and microstructure and were used to fabricate larger tensile samples for mechanical testing. Multiple parameter sets were found to provide dense Ti-55511 deposits with acceptable mechanical properties and the parametric models showed statistical significance.

Mechanical properties of high-nitrogen steel produced via selective laser melting using mechanically alloyed and spheroidized powders

In recent years, the development of additive technologies has been one of the priority tasks in the sector. Primarily, additive technologies enable the effective implementation of various design and engineering ideas in high-tech industries, such as the aircraft industry, engine technology, and rocket engineering. The expanded range of standardized materials for additive technologies will facilitate their integration into large-scale production. Of significant interest is the potential use of nitrogen-containing heat-resistant powder alloys to produce complex-shaped aircraft parts using additive technologies. This paper describes the complete process of obtaining samples from powders of alloys with superequilibrium nitrogen content using the selective laser melting (SLM) method. Four different compositions of high-nitrogen steels were obtained through mechanical alloying. Subsequently, the powders of these steels underwent processing using the plasma spheroidization method to be utilized in the SLM process. The SLM method was also employed to produce samples for mechanical tests. Throughout each stage of the process, the powders were thoroughly analyzed. One of the most critical parameters was the nitrogen content in the resulting powders. At each subsequent production stage, its proportion decreased, yet it remained at the superequilibrium content level of 0.13–0.44 wt. %. The mechanical tests confirmed that the alloys fabricated by the SLM method are not inferior in terms of their properties compared to those obtained using classical metallurgical technologies.

Enhancing Mechanical Properties of PC/ABS Compound through Compatibilizers and Investigation of Morphology and Flammability of the Improved Compound: A Comprehensive Study

Abstract This work investigates the effect of four different compatibilizers on the mechanical and thermal properties (impact, tensile strength, elongation, flexural modulus, and heat deflection temperature) of polycarbonate (PC)/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) blends. The compatibilizers studied were styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene (SEBS) grafted (g) with maleic anhydride (MAH), polystyrene (PS)-g-MAH, ABS-g-MAH, and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)-g-MAH. The compatibility of the improved sample was also studied using scanning electron microscope images. In addition, the flammability of the improved sample with 8 % decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) as a flame-retardant (FR) additive was measured by limiting oxidation index and UL 94. The blends with a 70/30 ratio of PC/ABS and varying percentages of compatibilizers (1, 3, and 6 %) were prepared using a twin-screw extruder, and samples for mechanical tests were produced by injection molding. The mechanical properties indicated that PS-g-MAH was better than other compatibilizers. Compared with pure PC and ABS, the PC30P3-FR blend was an economical and versatile compound with potential applications in the electrical and electronic industries.

Effect of stress relief and solubilization heat treatments on laser additive manufactured Inconel 625: microstructure and properties

This work assesses the effect of the energy input and the stress relief and solubilization heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of an Inconel 625 alloy processed by laser additive manufacturing using directed energy deposition. Two processing conditions were used to deliver high productivity with a high energy input (HEI) and another with better geometrical precision using a lower energy input (LEI). The mechanical test samples were built vertically and horizontally aligned with the tensile test direction. The samples were submitted to residual stress relief (SR) and SR + solubilization (S) heat treatments (SR + S). Results showed increased elongation with solubilization heat treatment, while UTS and YS decreased with heat treatment combination, which was linked to the stronger texture developed in HEI condition. Samples built in the vertical direction presented lower YS. The fracture toughness of solubilization heat-treated samples showed higher values, while LEI gave just slightly higher values. Although the microstructural and mechanical features are similar between the HEI and LEI conditions, the first stands out because parts can be fabricated quickly without losing mechanical performance under quasi-static conditions, impact fracture tests, or the production of unwanted phases.

The paper analyzes the issue of calculating the endurance of the body of lowflying orbital objects from cyclic temperature alternating deformation beyond the limits of Hooke's law. The practical absence of direct calculation methods is stated. An indirect calculation is proposed on the basis of available experimental data on mechanical tests of samples with the «stress» parameter and an algorithm for transition from actual deformations to equivalent stresses. The calculation method is based on the use of the existing experimental fatigue curve under a symmetrical bending cycle, the results of static tensile tests at extreme cycle temperatures, and a generalization of known information about the patterns of changes in the endurance parameters of the material under consideration in relation to the conditions of cyclic temperature alternating deformation. The adequacy of the methodology is verified using the example of depressurization of the housing of the Zarya orbital module of the international space station, made of AMg6 alloy after ≈120,000 cycles of alternating temperature loading. The difference between the calculated and actual endurance of the AMg6 alloy is within the natural range of 20 % during fatigue testing.

Polymer composites used to manufacturing Naturacustic® acoustic screens

In this study the functional properties and the production process of PVC matrix composites used in the technology of a new type of pro-environmental noise barriers for use in road construction, sound shielding of urban settlements, bridges, railroad tracks were described. PVC matrix composites were obtained by stirring extrusion using a single-screw extruder. The samples for mechanical tests, flame resistance and aging tests were obtained in the form of barrels and paddles using an injection molding machine. Based on the test results, it was found that the developed PVC composites have the following properties: Charpy impact strength greater than 12 kJ/m2, hardness according to Rockwell exceeding 78 N/mm2, oxygen index equal to 50% and good UV resistance at 3000 h. An important advantage of these composites is the agro-food waste content of 30 wt%, which makes the materials environmentally friendly.

Laser polishing of PBF-LB manufactured stainless steel surfaces

Laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB) is additive manufacturing where material is added layer by layer. This technology has revolutionized the manufacturing during last few recent years by enabling more efficient material usage and more functions to each component. However, for many industrial cases, the PBF-LB surfaces need an additional finishing operation like the machining or polishing operation. Laser polishing process was studied to solve the problems of traditional technologies to improve the surface quality and to enable automation of it. In this study parts were manufactured by PBF-LB of austenitic stainless steel (AISI 316L) into shapes of mechanical property testing samples in different orientations and locations in building platform. The surface roughness was measured prior and after polishing. The experiments showed that considerable surface smoothening even up to 85% (Sa from 48 μm to 11 μm) was reached in two treatments.

Sustainable activation of pumice with partially variable substitutions of metakaolin and/or fumed silica

AbstractSustainable alkali activation of pumice from Turkish origin was studied by a partial replacement of metakaolin and/or fumed silica additives. Following the characterization of as‐received pumice by X‐ray fluorescence spectroscopy, x‐ray diffraction, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, a series of powder mixtures were prepared by introducing metakaolin and/or fumed silica (8, 14, and 20 M) into 1 M of the pumice. The mixtures were then dissolved in 11 M NaOH or sodium silicate solutions. The slurries were poured into polyacetal molds to obtain geopolymer samples for mechanical testing and cured in a constant 50°C temperature in a humidity oven for 48 h and then left for 1 week to undergo additional curing at ambient temperature. The microstructural, mechanical, and thermal properties of the final geopolymer samples were determined by XRD, scanning electron microscopy, Weibull analysis of 3‐point flexural and compressive tests and thermal conductivity measurements. Results showed that all the Weibull values were best for 14 M of metakaolin and/or fumed silica. The metakaolin‐added pumice yielded higher compressive strengths of (53.78 ± 33.30 MPa) than fumed silica (10.87 ± 4.04 MPa) and fumed silica plus metakaolin (41.22 ± 5.16 MPa). Thermal conductivities (0.19–0.46 Wm–1K–1) were also comparable to the thermal conductivity of metakaolin‐based geopolymers.

Utilization of Various Industrial Wastes in Ordinary Concrete Under Normal Manufacturing Conditions

The main objective of the present work is to evaluate using alkaline wastewater from pot factories (recycled NaOH solutions with variant concentrations and pH values) along with waste powders possessing pozzolanic properties, such as supplementary cementitious materials and stone waste dust in concrete under normal manufacturing conditions. An extensive analysis of the chemical components and the physical properties of the used materials was achieved. Both supplementary cementitious materials and stone waste dust materials were used as 0%, 10%, 20%, or 30% partial cement replacements using either tap water or alkaline wastewater to make samples for physical, mechanical, and microstructure testing. Thermodynamic modeling was used to evaluate the effect of the flushed alkaline industrial water and the powders on the hydration products. The results showed an increase in the workability of the mixes made with alkaline wastewater, an increase in water absorption for samples made with alkaline wastewater at the age of 28 days, and a relative decrease in compressive strength at 3 and 28 days, respectively. Despite the reduction in mechanical strength, most samples made with alkaline wastewater and 10%, 20% supplementary cementitious materials, or stone waste dust materials gave an accepted concrete grade. The microstructure analysis showed a slight change in pores distribution, pores values, and hydration products at 3 and 28 days. The thermodynamic analysis provided insight into data on the effect of supplementary cementitious materials, stone waste dust materials, and alkaline wastewater on hydration products. Finally, the combination of these wastes in concrete production showed satisfactory conclusions.

ВЛИЯНИЕ СМЕЩЕНИЯ ВНЕОСЕВОЙ ЛИКВАЦИОННОЙ НЕОДНОРОДНОСТИ НА МЕХАНИЧЕСКИЕ СВОЙСТВА КРУПНОГАБАРИТНЫХ ИЗДЕЛИЙ ИЗ ЛЕГИРОВАННОЙ КОНСТРУКЦИОННОЙ СТАЛИ

The paper presents the results of a study of the effect of extracentric liquation inhomogeneity on the mechanical properties of the forged billet of the rotary shaft of 38CrNi3MoV steel. Changing the forging mode with subsequent heat treatment affected the classical location of the extracentric liquation. The displacement of the off-center liquor led to the formation of cracks and their exit to the forging surface. Mechanical tests of samples from the defective zone showed a decrease in plastic and viscous properties by 30-47.6%.

The 3D-Printed (FDM/FFF) Biocomposites Based on Polylactide and Carbonate Lake Sediments-Towards a Circular Economy.

In this study, composites containing polylactide and carbonate lake sediment in concentrations of 2.5, 5, 10, and 15% by weight were prepared by a 3D printing method. The material for 3D printing was obtained by directly diluting the masterbatch on an injection moulder to the desired concentrations, and after granulation, it was extruded into a filament. The material prepared thusly was used to print standardised samples for mechanical testing. To compare the mechanical properties of the composites obtained by 3D printing and injection moulding, two sets of tests were performed, i.e., mechanical tests (tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact strength) and hydrophobic-hydrophilic surface character testing. The degree of composite waste in the 3D printing was also calculated. Mechanical and surface tests were performed for both systems conditioned at room temperature and after accelerated ageing in a weathering chamber. The study showed differences in the properties of composites obtained by 3D printing. Sedimentary fillers improved the hydrophobicity of the systems compared with pure PLA, but it was not a linear relationship. The PLA/CLS sedB composite had higher strength parameters, especially after ageing in a weathering chamber. This is due to its composition, in which, in addition to calcite and silica, there are also aluminosilicates, causing a strengthening of the PLA matrix.

Investigation on Mechanical and Thermal Properties of 3D-Printed Polyamide 6, Graphene Oxide and Glass-Fibre-Reinforced Composites under Dry, Wet and High Temperature Conditions

This study is focused on 3D printing of polyamide 6 (PA6), PA6/graphene oxide (PA6/GO) and PA6/glass-fibre-reinforced (PA6/GF) composites. The effect of graphene oxide and glass-fibre reinforcement on 3D-printed PA6 is explored for improvement of the interfacial bond and interlaminar strength in ambient, wet and high temperature conditions relating to electric car battery box requirements. The influence of environmental conditions and process parameters on the 3D-printed polymer composites quality is also examined. Commercial PA6 filament was modified with GO to investigate the thermal and mechanical properties. The modified composites were melt-compounded using a twin-feed extruder to produce an improved 3D-printing filament. The improved filaments were then used to 3D-print test samples for tensile and compression mechanical testing using universal testing machines and thermal characterisation was performed following condition treatment in high temperature and water for correlation to dry/ambient samples. The study results show the studied materials were mostly suitable in dry/ambient conditions. PA6/GF samples demonstrated the highest strength of all three samples in ambient and high-temperature conditions, but the least strength in wet conditions due to osmotic pressure at the fibre/matrix interface that led to fibre breakage. The introduction of 0.1% GO improved the tensile strength by 33%, 11% and 23% in dry/ambient, dry/high temperature and wet/ambient conditions, respectively. The wet PA6/GO samples demonstrated the least strength in comparison to the ambient and high-temperature conditions. Notwithstanding this, PA6/GO exhibited the highest tensile strength in the wet condition, making it the most suitable for a high-strength, water-exposed engineering application.

THEINFLUENCE OF MODIFICATION WITH YTTRIUM ON THE STRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES OF CASTINGS OBTAINED FROM THE ЖС6У-ВІ ALLOY RETURN

Purpose. To study the effect of modification of nickel-yttrium ligature with additives on the structure and physical and mechanical properties of ЖС6У-ВІ alloy, smelted using its own technological return in the charge.
 Research methods. On the УППФ-3М installation with the base crucible, experimental melting of standart technological return of the ЖС6У-ВІ alloy was carried out using high-temperature melt processing.
 Experimental samples for mechanical tests and determination of stress-rupture strength were cast from the obtained ingots, cut into measured batch blanks and cleaned in a shot blasting drum, using the method of equiaxial crystallization in ceramic molds.
 When pouring one ceramic mold, the metal melt at a temperature of 1540 °C was modified with a nickel-yttrium ligature of the ІтН1 brand (grain size 2...5 mm) in the amount of 0.136 % of the mass of the charge in a crucible with a holding time of 1 min 15 s ... 1 min. The second block was poured without modification.
 Cooling of the poured blocks was carried out at the melting site at normal ambient temperature.
 The samples underwent heat treatment according to ОСТ 1 90126-85: heating to a temperature of 1210 ± 10 °C, holding for 4 hours, cooling in air.
 The balance of the chemical composition of the experimental alloys was evaluated by the computational and analytical method.
 The chemical composition of the alloy of experimental variants was determined. The microstructure and mechanical properties at room temperature were studied. Stress-rupture strength tests were performed at 975 °C under a load of 230 MPa.
 Results. Experimental melting of the charge was carried out, which consisted exclusively of our own technological return of the ЖС6У-ВІ alloy with the use of high-temperature processing of the melt and modification with a nickel-yttrium ligature.
 The chemical composition, microstructure of the experimental alloy, its mechanical properties at room temperature, and heat resistance indicators were studied.
 A method of determining the degree of balance of the chemical composition of modern superalloys based on the total content of groups of alloying elements is proposed.
 Scientific novelty. Calculations carried out in accordance with the proposed method of determining the degree of balance of the chemical composition of the alloy show that for the experimental variants, phase separations may form along the grain boundaries. Studies of the microstructure confirmed the separation of the γ-γ' eutectic phase in the form of a “white” border along the thickened grain boundaries in the metal of the ЖС6У-ВІ alloy sample.
 According to the calculations of the metal alloying system balance for experimental melts, not only the thickening of the grain boundaries and the separation of the γ-γ' eutectic phase, but also a decrease in mechanical properties and stress-rupture strength can be observed.
 The application of modification with nickel-yttrium ligature in the amount of 0.136 % in the remelting process with the use of high-temperature processing of the ЖС6У-ВІ alloy return melt allows to ensure the formation of grain boundaries without visible discharges (pollution).
 It was established that in the metal of the experimental melting with the application of modification with nickel-yttrium ligature, carbides have globular and lamellar morphology. There is no separation of the γ-γ' eutectic phase.
 The mechanical properties and stress-rupture strength of the metal of the experimental melts with the use of high-temperature processing of the melt of the conditioned return of the ЖС6У-ВІ alloy, both with and without modification by nickel-yttrium ligature, meet the requirements of OST 1 90126-85, but at the same time, they are lower than the properties of the alloy cast with charge refreshment.
 Practical value. A computational and analytical method of determining the degree of balance of the chemical composition of modern heat-resistant alloys based on the total content of certain groups of alloying elements is proposed.
 It was established that the modification of nickel-yttrium ligature with additives significantly improves the microstructure of castings obtained from the technological return of the ЖС6У-ВІ alloy and creates conditions for a general improvement in the quality of the material of the responsible castings.
 The conducted studies show that the use of 0.136 % nickel-yttrium ligature allows to clean grain boundaries, change the morphology of non-metallic inclusions and counteract the segregation of eutectic inclusions in nickel-based superalloys alloys.

АДАПТАЦИЯ РАБОЧИХ ПАРАМЕТРОВ ПРОЦЕССА СЕЛЕКТИВНОГО ЛАЗЕРНОГО СПЛАВЛЕНИЯ ПРИ ЗАМЕНЕ ОБОРУДОВАНИЯ

With an increase in the number of SLS machines, the possibilities of transferring operating parameters between them also increase. However, the machines differ in their design and technical parameters, and the quality of parts made on different machines will also differ. Most often, SLS machines differ in the size of the laser spot, the maximum available laser power. The article defines sequencing for adjusting the operating parameters of different SLS machines and carried out experimental verification on samples for mechanical tests.

Physical, Chemical, and Mechanical Properties of Six Bamboo from Sumatera Island Indonesia and Its Potential Applications for Composite Materials.

The suitability of bamboo's basic characteristics is very important for more specific purposes, such as composite raw materials. Anatomical, physical, mechanical, and chemical characteristics are some of bamboo's fundamental characteristics. This study analyses the basic properties, such as physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of bamboo from the Forest Area with Special Purpose (FASP) Pondok Buluh Sumatera Island, Indonesia (I); analyses the relationship between the properties of each type of bamboo (II); and chooses the type of bamboo with the best properties that have the potential to be applied to composite materials, such as laminated bamboo (III). This study used materials consisting of six species of bamboo from the FASP Pondok Buluh. The manufacture of physical and mechanical test samples refers to the ISO 22157 standard, 2004, while the chemical properties test refers to the TAPPI 1999 standard. The chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of bamboo vary widely among species. The lowest holocellulose and α-cellulose content were found in the Kuning Bamboo (B. vulgaris var. vittata). The content of holocellulose and α-cellulose causes the lowest density in Kuning Bamboo (B. vulgaris var. vittata). The Dasar Bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris) has the highest levels of lignin. The substances have an impact on moisture content, T/R ratio, and shear strength. The Dasar Bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris) has the lowest moisture content, the highest T/R ratio, and the highest shear strength. However, Betung Bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) has the highest density in this study. The compressive strength of the Betung Bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) has the highest value. Therefore, Betung bamboo and Dasar Bamboo in this study were potentially utilized for composite materials, such as laminated bamboo.
