With the use of wall-plug efficiency, estimation techniques for the optical power and heat-dissipation coefficient of LEDs are introduced in this paper to enrich the photo-electro-thermal theory, which has provided a framework for analyzing LED systems. The estimation methods consist of simple procedures for optical and electrical power measurements, which are easy for LED device manufacturers and system designers to follow. The extended theory has been tested with several types of LED devices, with reasonably good agreements between theoretical and practical results.
