Abstract
Intertek Transportation Technologies (ITT) has pioneered automotive high-voltage electric machine testing in the UK since 2011. This article describes the many challenges encountered in testing high-voltage, high-speed pulse width modulated inverter-driven electric machines and in delivering accurate and trustworthy data. The article describes how ITT has pioneered new developments in test rig design, overcome the significant challenges of gathering accurate data in an inherently electrically noisy environment and provided fully traceable high bandwidth instrumentation to deliver trustworthy measurement of speed, mechanical power, electrical power and temperatures. The article also looks to the future of testing in this fast moving landscape.
