The present work investigates the pyroelectric properties of 0.94Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3-0.06BaTiO3-0.02Zn-xLa (NBT-6BT-2Zn-xLa; x = 0, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 in mole %) and its use in methylene blue (MB) dye degradation in wastewater. La doping is used to enhance the pyroelectric properties of NBT-6BT-2Zn for energy harvesting and pyrocatalysis applications. The 0.25 mol % La-doped sample consists of a maximum pyroelectric coefficient of 3.8 × 10−4 C m−2 °C−1 and shows a 55% MB dye decomposition. The presence of •OHandO2•− is confirmed by scavengers and radical trapping experiments. The repeatability test ensures the reusability of the NBT-6BT-2Zn-0.25La as a pyrocatalyst for dye degradation. The bulk form of NBT-6BT-2Zn-0.25La is also investigated to overcome the limitations of powder recovery in dye degradation.
