The Swedish foreign language education system deserves the attention of Ukrainian scholars as it incorporates advanced trends of contemporary pedagogical practice and preserves the traditions of folk high schools as the basis for creation of educational paths for adults in Europe. The first position in the world, according to indicators of foreign language literacy (EPI), shows the effectiveness of national strategy of Sweden in this field. Multinationality, which leads to cultural diversity of Swedish society, the state and problematics of Swedish language functioning with English as academic lingua franca, speak about the common challenges faced by nation in the context of globalization and migration. The exchange of experience between Ukraine and Sweden is extremely important, because the challenges faced by modern Swedish foreign languge education need some Classic approach when teaching to those who come with low competence. This classic practice is widely used in Ukraine which needs instructions on implementing interactive communicational methods. The goals which pursue the adults and age form the demand and urge the creation of a new content and study forms: foreign language by profession, specialization; business foreign language, foreign language for specific purposes etc. The traditional high level of language competence among Swedish students makes it possible to apply different interactive methods in study process while the newcomers from other countries need some classic approach to form basic skills. State support of multilingualism in Sweden may be observed in the support of informal learning environment, the absence of dubbed foreign language films, talk shows, documentaries, radio broadcasts, periodicals (mostly in English). Swedish cultural philosophy considers the act of barbarity if the original, authentic, foreign-language materials are translated, being mostly accompanied by subtitles in Swedish. Many travel agencies advertise Sweden in their travel booklets, emphasizing it as a country where 90% of the population speak English very well, and therefore it is a comfortable and productive place for foreigners to stay (for example, for study). There’s a common national practice to teach subjects in English, for example, a geography teacher speaks English at a lesson. The content of adult learning in Sweden is characterized by interdependence with labor market demand; still the national adult education system can cover levels that are not related to professional development only. There’s a support of any educational goals in adulthood, unless you do not mark them as hobby. The content of courses in private schools is person-oriented, and should meet the needs of those who want to study – these are mostly specialists who need specific, carrier-centered foreign language skills, for example: English for managers, economists, physicians, engineers; English for those who migrate to India, China, America, and others.
