Safety and efficacy of Labisia pumila containing products

Labisia pumila is a traditional medicinal plant which has wide therapeutic application including induction of labor and treatment of dysentery, dysmenorrhea and gonorrhea. We aimed for systematic review of the efficacy andsafety of L. pumila extract or its other commercial products availabe in Malaysian market. The marketed 500 mg capsule is composed of 40 mg L. pumila , 10 mg C. caudatum extract and 450 mg excipient. The commercial products did not follow the registration guidelines of Malaysian National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau (NPCB) and advertisement guidelines of Malaysian Advertisement Board. Randomized, placebo controlled clinical trials reported the safe consumpotion of L. pumila water extract on postmanoposal women. Information on the efficacy and safety of commercial products are not sufficiently available. Many unregistered products (mostly capsule form) are flooded in Malaysian market without having scientific information. Consumption of those products may seriously impair the health of the people.

Green Tropical Phytoextracts - Promising Anticancer Alternative

The anticancer potential of aqueous extracts of tropical plants Ficus deltoidea and Labisia pumila were tested on human prostate carcinoma (DU145) cells. The effects of these extracts on the cells were observed through several tests such as cytotoxicity MTT assay, trypan blue exclusion assay (for cell viability), fluorescence and morphological observations. Both of the plant extracts had a growth repression effect on the cells with different concentrations. The best concentration (1x10-3 μg/mL) was chosen by determining their cytotoxic effects on human prostate cancer as well as fibroblast (normal) cells. The F. deltoidea extract showed more potency and killed the cells faster than L. pumila. Morphologically both extracts affected the cells in a similar way, i.e. the cells became irregular shaped, detached themselves and kept floating in the medium.

Comparative study of three Marantodes pumilum varieties by microscopy, spectroscopy and chromatography

Marantodes pumilum (Blume) Kuntze (synonym: Labisia pumila (Blume) Fern.-Vill), Primulaceae, is well known for its traditional use as a post-partum medication among women in Malaysia. Three varieties of M. pumilum, var. alata Scheff., var. pumila and var. lanceolata (Scheff.) Mez. are commonly used. Nowadays, M. pumilum powder or extracts are commercially available as herbal supplements and beverages. Authentication of the variety is an important component of product quality control. Thus, the present work was aimed to compare the three varieties using microscopic, spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques. Microscopic anatomical examination and powder microscopy were performed on fresh and dried plant materials, respectively. Fingerprint profiles of the varieties were obtained using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer, high performance thin layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. The microscopic examination showed presence of anisocytic stomata, scale and capitate glandular trichome in all varieties. The type of stomata and trichomes, outline structure of stem and leaf margin, petiole and midrib, organization of vascular system, areolar venation, pattern of anticlinal walls, the distribution of secretory canals and cell inclusion as well as the measurement of selected structures could be used to distinguish and identify each variety of M. pumilum. In addition, spectroscopic and chromatographic fingerprint analyses of the three varieties exhibited distinguishable profiles based on the intensity of certain peaks or bands. The findings from this study will provide systematic identification for these varieties.

ANTIPROLIFERATIVE PROPERTIES OF AQUEOUS Labisia pumila EXTRACT ON PROSTATE CANCER CELL LINES

Labisia pumila or locally known as Kacip Fatimah has been widely used by women in Malaysia to treat post-partum illnesses. This herbaceous undershrub of the Myrsinaceae family has been exploited aggressively as beverages, cosmetics as well as health supplement to promote wellness in the past. This present study was to determine the anti-proliferative properties of L. pumila aqueous extract against prostate cancer cell lines and to identify the active compound which may contribute to the anti-proliferative activity of L. pumila. In this study, the aqueous extract was prepared by using ultrasound assisted extraction method. The preliminary result revealed that L. pumila aqueous extract inhibited the proliferation of the prostate cancer cell lines. The aqueous extract was further fractionated using column chromatography. The result from the scavenging activity test confirmed that L. pumila crude extract and its fraction (F2) displayed a strong activity with 70% inhibition. Total phenolic contents assay was carried out to determine the phenolic compound of the extract and its fractions and the results showed the total phenolic content was higher in the F2 (96.82±0.3 GAE mg/g) compared to crude (63.75±0.1 GAE mg/g) and F1 (73.75±0.1 GAE mg/g). In conclusion, these findings suggested that the crude and fraction (F2) of L. pumila contain phenolic compounds that act as anti-proliferative agent against proliferation of prostate cancer cell lines in vitro.

Impedance analysis of Labisia pumila plant water status

Labisia pumila (Kacip fatimah) is a popular medicinal plant in Malaysia. The constituents of this plant have been reported to possess anticancer, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The growth and production of L. pumila is greatly influenced by the plant water status. Current techniques to measure plant water status are generally based on the plant soil moisture, which apparently did not indicate the real water content inside the plant. There are other techniques to measure directly on the plant such as based on leaf water potential (LWP) and relative water content (RWC). However, these techniques are destructive and time consuming. In this study, four levels of evapotranspiration replacement (ER) treatment which were 100% ER, 75% ER, 50% ER and 25% ER was applied to 30 polybags of L. pumila plants. The plant water status was measured using an impedance spectroscopy technique. A pair of electrocardiogram (ECG) electrode connected to an impedance analyzer board was used to measure the impedance value of the leaf samples non-invasively. Plant water status parameters such as LWP, RWC, volumetric moisture content (VMC), and leaf thickness were measured using standard methods. The results show that after 20weeks of treatment, 25% ER had the highest impedance value ranged from 0.10MΩ to 0.15MΩ at the frequency of 70–100kHz. The resistance of 100% ER at 20weeks of treatment increased from 0.70kΩ to 1.23kΩ as the reactance decreased from 0.51kΩ to 0.28kΩ. Comparatively, the resistance of 25% ER increased from 1kΩ to 1.10kΩ as the reactance decreased from 0.88kΩ to 0.83kΩ. The polynomial regression of impedance measurements with plant water status parameters (VMC, leaf thickness, LWP and RWC) shows that LWP and RWC had the highest R2 (0.78, 0.73). The results show that impedance measurement technique is auspicious to evaluate plant water status.

Bioactive Compound and Therapeutic Value of the Some Malaysia Medicinal Plants: A Review

There are many medicinal plants that have been used since folk ages. These plants have been recognized to have pharmaceutical properties and beneficial impact on health. This study discusses the use of ten medicinal plants in the traditional medicinal system of Malaysia and related scientific on their antioxidant activity, which demonstrate their pharmaceutical properties. The plants viewed are Andrographis paniculata, Cosmos caudatus, Eurycoma longifolia, Ficus deltoidea, Gynura procumbens, Labisia pumila, Orthosiphon stamineus, Phyllanthus niruri, Piper betle and Uncaria gambir. All the plants mentioned in this study have therapeutic properties such as antioxidation, antidiabetics, antiinflammation, which explains and validates their uses in traditional and modern medicine.

Protective effects of Labisia pumila var. alata on biochemical and histopathological alterations of cardiac muscle cells in isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction rats.

The study was designed to evaluate the cardioprotective effects of the standardized aqueous and 80% ethanol extracts of Labisia pumila var. alata (LPva) in isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial infarction (MI) in rats. The extracts were administered to Wistar rats orally for 28 days with three doses (100, 200 and 400 mg/kg of body weight) prior to ISO (85 mg/kg)-induced MI in two doses on day 29 and 30. The sera and hearts were collected for biochemical and histopathological analysis after the rats were sacrificed 48 h after the first induction. The main components of the extracts, gallic acid, alkylresorcinols and flavonoids were identified and quantitatively analyzed in the extracts by using a validated reversed phase HPLC method. The extracts showed significant protective effects as pretreated rats showed a significant dose-dependent decrease (p < 0.05) in cardiac enzyme activities, i.e., cardiac troponin I (cTnI), creatine kinase MB isoenzyme (CK-MB), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST), when compared with ISO-control rats. There were significant rises (p < 0.05) in the activity of oxidase enzymes, i.e., glutathione peroxide (GPx), catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) of the pretreated rats, when compared with ISO-control group. Histopathological examination showed an improvement in membrane cell integrity in pre-treated rats compared to untreated rats. The major components of LPva extracts can be used as their biomarkers and contributed to the cardioprotective effects against ISO-induced MI rats.

Time and dose-dependent effects of Labisia pumila on the bone strength of postmenopausal osteoporosis rat model.

BackgroundPost-menopausal osteoporosis has long been treated and prevented by estrogen replacement therapy (ERT). Despite its effectiveness, ERT is associated with serious adverse effects. Labisia pumila var. alata (LP) is a herb with potential as an alternative agent to ERT due to its phytoestrogenic, antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects on bone. This study aimed to determine the effects of LP supplementation on bone biomechanical strength of postmenopausal osteoporosis rat model.MethodsNinety-six female Sprague–Dawley rats aged 4 to 5 months old were randomly divided into six groups; six rats in the baseline group (BL) and eighteen rats in each group of; Sham- operated (Sham), ovariectomised control (OVXC) and ovariectomised with daily oral gavages of Premarin at 64.5 μg/kg (ERT), LP at 20 mg/kg (LP20) and LP at 100 mg/kg (LP100) respectively. These groups were subdivided into three, six and nine weeks of treatment periods. Rats in BL group were euthanized before the start of the study, while other rats were euthanized after completion of their treatments. Femora were dissected out for biomechanical strength analysis using Instron Universal Model 5848 Micro Tester.ResultsOVXC group showed deterioration in the bone biomechanical strength with time. Both ERT and LP supplemented rats showed improvements in bone strength parameters such as maximum load, displacement, stiffness, stress, and Young Modulus. The most improved bone strength was seen in rats given LP at the dose of 100 mg/kg for nine weeks.ConclusionLP supplementation at 100 mg/kg was more effective than ERT in reversing ovariectomy-induced bone biomechanical changes.

Cosmetic potential of Southeast Asian herbs: an overview

Herbs and spices have been used in retaining and boosting human beauty since time immemorial. Herbal cosmetic has growing demand in the worldwide market and is an invaluable gift of Mother Nature. In the present review, the focus is on the cosmetic herbs of Southeast Asian countries namely Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar [Burma], Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, East Timor, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore in highlighting both traditional and scientific knowledge or background of the selected potential herbs. The available literature was searched in the following scientific database such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct and Springer for publications and patents. In view of traditional uses, herbs like Allium sativum, Aloe vera, Centella asiatica, Curcuma longa, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, Lawsonia inermis and Tamarindus indica L. were classified as need of special mention. Many herbs have been scientifically evaluated for their cosmetic potentials such as anti-aging, anti-acne, melanogenic and anti-tyrosinase activities. The great void remains for a systematic study, thorough review of scientific report that provides a basis for the use of specific herbs due to their efficacy as cosmetics. In addition, two of the Malay herbs; Labisia pumila (Kacip Fatimah) and Ficus deltoidea (Mas cotek), are proposed to be clinically studied for their safety in cosmetic application aspects wherein the need for safety evaluation and fruitful application of herbal cosmetics were emphasized.

The HPTLC Validated Method Development for the Quantification of Naringin from the Partially Purified Labisia Pumila Dichloromethane Extract

Partially purified fraction E, dichloromethane extract of leaves from Labisia Pumila has been shown to possess anti-ulcer, anti-inflammatory, anti-asthmatic activities among others. Naringin has been identified by LC-MS and HPLC as the major compound present in fraction E. The present study reports the development and validated TLC densitometric method for the quantification of Naringin present in Fraction E. ICH guidelines were followed to develop this method. CAMAG-HPLTC system comprising of a TLC Visualizer and Linomat 5 sample applicator was used in this study. The separation was performed using TLC aluminum plates pre-coated with silica gel 60 F254. Optimized mobile phase consisted of Methanol: Ethyl Acetate (60:40 v/v). Win-CATS-V 1.2.3 software and Video Scan were used to identify and quantify Naringin at 366nm in fluorescence mode. The peak heights at Rf 0.648 ± 0.01 gave a linear range from 200-1000μg/ml correlation coefficient R2± SD = 0.973 ± 0.024. The LOD and LOQ were found to be Naringin 0.74 ± 0.29 μg and 7.73 ± 0.26 μg, respectively. Repeatability gave CV % < 2.0. We recovered 92.56% of Naringin and 642.4 mg/g (64.24%) was found to be present in Fraction E. The HPTLC method was found to be reproducible, accurate and convenient for rapid screening of bioactive constituents present in Fraction E. This developed method will be used for analysis and quality control of drug formulations containing Labisia Pumila.

Fatty acid composition, antioxidant and antibacterial properties of the microwave aqueous extract of three varieties of Labisia pumila Benth.

BackgroundThe present study was conducted in order to evaluate the fatty acid profile, anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial activities from the microwave aqueous extract of the leaves of three different varieties of Labisia pumila Benth.ResultsThe chemical analysis of the extract showed that fatty acids (palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic, oleic, linoleic and α-linolenic) acid as the main components in three varieties of L. pumila leaves. Furthermore, the obtained results of the anti-oxidant revealed that L. pumila var. alata contained higher anti-oxidative activities compared to var. pumila and var. lanceolata. However, these values were lower than the tested anti-oxidant standards. On the other hand, the aqueous leaf extracts in all three varieties of L. pumila were also found to inhibit a variable degree of antibacterial activities against eight bacteria (four Gram-positive and four Gram-negative bacteria).ConclusionsIn this study, it was observed the leaves of three varieties of L. pumila exhibited variable patterns of fatty acids and the microwave aqueous extraction possess anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial activities.

Xanthine oxidase (XO) is an enzyme that catalyzes the metabolism of hypoxanthine and xanthine into uric acid. XO also serves as an important biological source of free radicals that contribute to oxidative damage involved in many pathological processes. Antioxidant effects of several Primulaceae species have been reported but their XO inhibitory activity has not been investigated. Thus, this study was conducted to determine the XO inhibitory and free radical scavenging activities of Primulaceae species and to correlate these activities with their total phenolic contents (TPC). A total of 129 extracts of different plant parts of twelve Primulaceae species were assayed for XO inhibition spectrophotometrically at 290 nm using allopurinol as a positive control. The antioxidant activity was determined using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay and TPC of the extracts were determined by the Folin-Ciocalteau method. The Pearson correlation analysis indicated that the TPC of the extracts showed moderate positive correlations with XO inhibition (r=0.31, p<0.05) and DPPH antioxidant activity (r=0.31, p<0.05) for all of the dichloromethane extracts. Amongst the extracts tested, the dichloromethane extract of the roots of Labisia pumila var. alata showed the strongest inhibitory effects for XO (IC50 4.8 μg/mL) and DPPH free radical capacity (IC50 1.7 μg/mL). The results suggested that Primulaceae species, particularly the dichloromethane extract of L. pumila var. alata roots, are the potential source of useful leads for the development of XO inhibitors.

Meeting report: the 1st BRG-training school in Asia, a first step in the building of an ASEAN encapsulation network.

The 6th training school on bioencapsulation of the Bioencapsulation Research Group (BRG http://bioencapsulation.net/2014_Nha_Trang/index1.html) took place in Nha Trang, Vietnam, in March 2014. This event, organised by AgroSup Dijon, Nha Trang University and the BRG with the support of the Agency of French‐Speaking Universities (Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, AUF) and Buchi was the first BRG‐event organised in Asia. The success of this school, which brought together bioencapsulation researchers from eight countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) along with those from Europe, Japan, Australia and many other countries, shows that bioencapsulation is a growing field in Southeast Asia. After a brief presentation of bibliometric data showing the dynamism and the specificities of encapsulation research in Southeast Asia, a presentation of the achievements and needs in some countries is given showing the interest in building a network in this region.

Time and dose-dependent effects of Labisia pumila on bone oxidative status of postmenopausal osteoporosis rat model.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis can be associated with oxidative stress and deterioration of antioxidant enzymes. It is mainly treated with estrogen replacement therapy (ERT). Although effective, ERT may cause adverse effects such as breast cancer and pulmonary embolism. Labisia pumila var. alata (LP), a herb used traditionally for women’s health was found to protect against estrogen-deficient osteoporosis. An extensive study was conducted in a postmenopausal osteoporosis rat model using several LP doses and duration of treatments to determine if anti-oxidative mechanisms were involved in its bone protective effects. Ninety-six female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into six groups; baseline group (BL), sham-operated (Sham), ovariectomised control (OVXC), ovariectomised (OVX) and given 64.5 μg/kg of Premarin (ERT), ovariectomised and given 20 mg/kg of LP (LP20) and ovariectomised and given 100 mg/kg of LP (LP100). The groups were further subdivided to receive their respective treatments via daily oral gavages for three, six or nine weeks of treatment periods. Following euthanization, the femora were dissected out for bone oxidative measurements which include superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Results: The SOD levels of the sham-operated and all the treatment groups were significantly higher than the OVX groups at all treatment periods. The GPx level of ERT and LP100 groups at the 9th week of treatment were significantly higher than the baseline and OVX groups. MDA level of the OVX group was significantly higher than all the other groups at weeks 6 and 9. The LP20 and LP100 groups at the 9th week of treatment had significantly lower MDA levels than the ERT group. There were no significant differences between LP20 and LP100 for all parameters. Thus, LP supplementations at both doses, which showed the best results at 9 weeks, may reduce oxidative stress which in turn may prevent bone loss via its anti-oxidative property.

Evaluation of drug interaction potential of Labisia pumila (Kacip Fatimah) and its constituents.

Labisia pumila (Kacip Fatimah) is a popular herb in Malaysia that has been traditionally used in a number of women’s health applications such as to improve libido, relieve postmenopausal symptoms, and to facilitate or hasten delivery in childbirth. In addition, the constituents of this plant have been reported to possess anticancer, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Clinical studies have indicated that cytochrome P450s (CYPs), P-glycoprotein (P-gp), and Pregnane X receptor (PXR) are the three main modulators of drug-drug interactions which alter the absorption, distribution, and metabolism of drugs. Given the widespread use of Kacip Fatimah in dietary supplements, the current study focuses on determining the potential of its constituents to affect the activities of CYPs, P-gp, or PXR using in vitro assays which may provide useful information toward the risk of herb-drug interaction with concomitantly used drugs. Six compounds isolated from the roots of L. pumila (2 saponins and 4 alkyl phenols) were tested, in addition to the methanolic extract. The extract of L. pumila showed a significant time dependent inhibition (TDI) of CYP3A4, reversible inhibition of CYP2C9 and 2C19 and a weak inhibition of 1A2 and 2D6 as well as an inhibition of P-gp and rifampicin-induced PXR activation. The alkyl phenols inhibited CYP3A4 (TDI), CYP2C9, and 2C19 (reversible) while saponins inhibited P-gp and PXR. In conclusion, L. pumila and its constituents showed significant modulation of all three regulatory proteins (CYPs, P-gp, and PXR) suggesting a potential to alter the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of conventional drugs if used concomitantly.

Ensuring Sustainability of Kacip Fatimah (Labisia Pumila) Through Ex-Situ Conservation

Labisia pumila or locally known as Kacip Fatimah of the family Myrsinaceae is one of the popular herbal species in Malaysia. The leaves or the whole plant are being traditionally used to treat women internal problem and health. Other medicinal uses of the plant are as a treatment for dysentery, flatulence, dysmenorrhoea and gonorrhoea. The increasing demand of the plants for those usages has lead to the over-exploitation in the wild and might endanger the species if no conservation activities are being carried out. Beside the danger of extinction, the species also experience severe genetic loss and shortage of raw materials. Realizing to this, Plant Improvement Programme of Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has taken an initiative to ex-situ conserve the species through the establishment of germplasm and development of breeding strategy. The purpose is to avoid extinction of the species and to produce high quality planting materials for commercial production. This paper discusses the collection, selection, propagation and establishment of clonal bank/germplasm of the species. It is anticipated that with the initiative, the sustainability of the species can be ensured to support the industries demand in the future.

Efficacy and safety of Labisia pumila var alata water extract among pre- and postmenopausal women.

This study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of Labisia pumila var alata (L. pumila) water extract for improving quality of life, cardiovascular and hormonal balance. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group, 16-week study in healthy pre- and postmenopausal women aged 40-60 years was conducted in Kelantan, Malaysia. The subjects were randomized to 400 mg propriety extract of L. pumila or placebo. A Women's Health Questionnaire was used to assess quality of life. Repeated-measures analysis of variance was used to evaluate the data. A total of 197 subjects (L. pumila: n=102 and placebo: n=95) were analyzed. Subjects in the herbal group showed improved memory/concentration, vasomotor symptoms, menstrual symptoms, and sleep problems by 8.3%, 15.9%, 11.8%, and 31.0%, respectively. The greatest improvement was observed for the question: "I get frightened or panic feelings for apparently no reason at all" with a 53% decrease as compared with placebo. Improvements were also seen in the cardiovascular parameters, and the safety profiles were normal. Postmenopausal women supplemented with L. pumila showed no changes in gynecological relevant hormones luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and 17β-Estradiol. Water extract of L. pumila was shown to be safe and effective for improving several parameters of quality of life and cardiovascular risks factors (total cholesterol [TC], low-density lipoprotein cholesterol [LDL-C]).

Fractionation of Labisia Pumila using Solid-Phase Extraction for Extraction of Gallic Acid

Phenolics are the most ample secondary metabolites of plants and have drawn increasing attention in their applications in health supplement and functional cosmetic. This is due to their strong antioxidant properties and their marked effects in the inhibition of several oxidative stress associated metabolic disorder such as cancer and aging. In Labisia pumila, gallic acid (3,4,5-Trihydroxybenzoic acid) was found to be one of the most abundant secondary metabolite. It has been proposed as a biomarker in cosmetic and food supplement applications. In this research the identification and isolation of gallic acid were carried out. Different sorbent of solid-phase extraction (SPE) column were used for the fractionation of Labisia pumila var Alata water extract and the amount of gallic acid present in the fractions were quantified. The aim is to identify the better sorbent-solvent combination in SPE that result in higher recovery of gallic acid from Labisia pumila var Alata water extract. A range of solvent mixtures of 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% methanol (Me Oh)-water was used. Gallic acid was successfully extracted and identified from Labisia pumila. From this discovery, C18 silica reversed phase solid phase extraction column could extracts highest gallic acid from Labisia pumila var Alata water extract. Retention of analyte from the sample from second elution using 80% methanol-water Solvent may be used as the best method to extract the compound from Labisia Pumila var Alata since it has been reported to have various bioactivities such as high antioxidant activity and cytotoxic against many diseases. Using C18 silica reversed phase in SPE as a fractionation and extraction of gallic acid from Labisia pumila var Alata can be achieved for application purpose or future studies.

In vivo Anti‐ulcer and Antioxidant Enzyme Effect of Partially Purified Leaf Extract from Labisia Pumila in Indomethacin‐ Induced Ulcer Animal Model (LB585)

This study is aimed at investigating the effect of partially purified leaf extract of Labisia Pumila (LP) on Indomethacin (IND) induced ulcer and on selected antioxidant enzymes: ‐ catalase (CAT), glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and lipid peroxidation(LPO). Column chromatography was used to partially purify the DCM crude extract into 4 fractions (A, B, C and D). 10mg/kg Indomethacin was administered for 5 days to induce ulcer. The oral administration of the LP fractions (A, B, C and D) at a concentration of 100mg/kg were found to inhibit IND induced gastric lesions by 67.5%, 27.2%, 47.82% and 66.2%, respectively, the effect was highest in fraction A and D. The level of antioxidant activity was enhanced by the oral administration of fractions A and D, the other fractions did not show any significant antioxidant activity. In conclusion, the oral administration of LP fractions A to D showed antiulcer activities in IND induced ulcer and fractions A and D enhanced the antioxidant activities in ulcer models.Grant Funding Source: UCSI University
