The Implementation of Supportive Classroom Environment in VII-Grade Mathematics Learning

Mathematics is seen by some students as a subject which is not easy to learn. Thus, they need someone who can make mathematics easy, in this point, a teacher. Teachers as instructor are needed to be more innovative in developing instruction that can encourage students to get an ideal learning experience. Not just regarding approaches, teaching materials, and strategies, yet additionally needs to focus on the learning environment which promotes the learning process. One of the framework that offers learning which takes into a supportive learning environment is the Productive Pedagogies Framework. The purpose of this study is to look at the implementation of learning that utilized the Supportive Classroom Environment dimension of the Productive Pedagogies Framework. This study used qualitative method. There were 33 grade VII students (boys and girls) on average age of 13 years old from one of the Junior High Schools in Bandung participated in this study. The research findings revealed that (1) implementing Supportive Classroom Environment can further encourage students in upper group to achieve more optimal learning outcomes; (2) This learning can be said to encourage middle group students to get optimal learning outcomes; (3) This learning has not been able to encourage students in lower group. We concluded that implementing Supportive Classroom Environment can further encourage students in upper and middle groups.

POTRAYING STUDENTS’ LANGUAGE PROBLEMS IN COMPREHENDING NARRATIVE READING TEXT


 
 
 This research aimed at recognizing language problems faced by the students in comprehending narrative reading text. The investigation includes the students’ language problems and the teachers’ solution regarding to his students’ language problems while comprehending narrative reading text. This research was carried out in one of Junior High School in Bandung and involved 20 students as research sample. In gaining the research data, the writers used several instruments including observation sheets, semi structured interview questions for both students and teacher, and a set of narrative reading comprehension test. The finding showed the students were poor in vocabulary, pronunciation, difficulties search about character in the text, difficulties search about generic structure in the text, difficulties search a moral value in the text, difficulties in answering the reading comprehension question. In addition, the finding of interview data showed solution for those problems were that teacher used teacher give particularly in reading skill comprehension and do repetition to give the mean of the words and then give the students clues for some information and make the students create map-brain.
 
 

Mathematical communications through project based learning based on android

The lack of multimedia applications in schools and the low mathematical communication ability of students, as an alternative to using Android. The purpose of this research is to improve students’ mathematical communication ability through android based learning project. Using the quasi experimental method. This research conducted at Junior High School in Bandung with 55 students as samples, 29 students in class VIII C as an experimental class and 26 students in class VIII D as a control class. Mathematical communication ability test instrument. Data analysis: independent T test, two way ANOVA test. The findings: Improved communication of students who get learning on Android based learning projects was higher than students who get conventional learning. There were no difference in the achievement of mathematical communication between students who get an Android based learning project and conventional learning based on mathematical basic knowledge in the high, medium and low categories. There is the influence of the interaction between the type of project based learning with android applications and expository learning and prior knowledge mathematics category (high, medium, and low) on the ability of students’ mathematical communication. Android based learning project facilitates inventions process, reflective, the material is easy to understanding so that students’ mathematical communication skills increase.

E-PORTFOLIO BASED LEARNING

The present study aimed to investigate the response of e-portfolio on EFL students’ speaking classroom. This study conducted to examines whether e-portfolio has good effect on improving student speaking skill. This study conducted at one of the junior high school in Bandung in the academic year 2019/2020. Seven students participated in this study. The type of this study was qualitative research and its design was a case study. The data obtained through observation, interview, and documentation. The findings of the research showed that e-portfolio has a positive response from the students. It was proven by the result of the data that the students helped by using e-portfolio as a speaking learning media. In addition, the result of this study indicates that e-portfolio is an interesting learning media to help students on their listening skills.

Mathematics learning trough e-learning during pandemic covid-19 in grade 9 of a junior high school in Bandung

Since March 11, 2020 the WHO has determined that the covid-19 pandemic is a global pandemic. Most countries in the world are affected by this pandemic, including Indonesia. Covid-19 pandemic has an impact on all aspects including the educational aspect. Limiting social interaction is an anticipation made to reduce the spread of the corona virus. In this case the teaching and learning activities in schools are eliminated, as an alternative, most of the learning is done by e-learning. In this context the research aims to find out mathematics learning through e-learning during the covid-19 pandemic, starting from the preparation of teachers and students, implementation, and evaluation. The research was done in grade 9 of a Junior High School in Bandung. The method used in this research was qualitative with a case study design. The results of the research are: (1) some applications such as WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Zoom, and Google Form can help students to learn mathematics. (2) learning through e-learning can run optimally if the teacher continues to coordinate with the homeroom teacher, learn about platforms in the use of e-learning, and becomes a creative teacher. (3) virtual board is an important platform for learning mathematics.

STEM project-based learning on student’s STEM literacy: the case of teaching earth layer and disaster

During this COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia also threatened with natural disasters since it is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire. Therefore, future generations should be prepared to have STEM Literacy related to solve a real-world problem using their integrated science with technology, engineering, and mathematical knowledge. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of STEM project-based learning on students’ STEM literacy in the earth layer and disaster topic. The research approach used was a pre-experiment method with one group pretest and posttest design. The instrument is multiple-choice questions. The population of this study is 7th grade student in Junior High School in Bandung, and the sample consists of 30 students chosen by convenience sampling technique. The result of normalized gain showed that there is an improvement of student‘s STEM Literacy by 0.47 categorized as a medium improvement. Technology literacy was the highest improvement, while science literacy, engineering literacy, and mathematical literacy gained medium improvement. STEM Project-Based Learning approach is recommended to improve students’ STEM literacy during this pandemic that needs to carried by online learning.

Identify students’ conception and level of representations using five-tier test on wave concepts

This study aims to identify students’ conception and their level of representation on wave concepts. This is descriptive research. Data were collected through a five-tiers instrument test. Subjects in this study were thirty 9th grades in one of Junior High School in Bandung. The results of the study show that there are many students who lack knowledge and misconceptions. Students’ visual representation in wave concepts in real life is only at the macroscopic level. Their drawing in connecting phenomena and real-life also have some errors. Multiple representations-based learning is needed to facilitate students changing their conceptions into scientific and deep conceptions, which not only focus on representations modal such as verbal, picture, mathematic, and graph, but also level of representations, such as macroscopic, microscopic, sub-microscopic and symbolic.

Correlation between mathematical creative thinking ability and mathematical creative thinking disposition in geometry

Mathematics educators commonly believe that an open-ended approach could facilitate students to build their creative thinking ability and its disposition, especially in geometry. This research belongs to a quasi-experiment that used a non-equivalent control group design. The purpose of this research was to analyze the correlation between creative thinking ability and creative thinking disposition through an open-ended learning approach toward area and volume of flat geometrical objects problems. Two classes are selected as the sample, they are the control group and experiment group. The open-ended approach was used in the experiment group then direct instruction in the control group. The population is all of the eighth-grade students at one of the junior high school in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. This study used to test and non-test as the research instruments. The test instrument was a creative thinking ability test while the non-test instrument was a questionnaire. These instruments were given after the learning process then analyzed by using Bivariate Correlation through SPSS. According to the analysis results, the finding is: the correlation coefficient between creative thinking ability and creative thinking disposition is at the middle level. The conclusion is there is a significant correlation between students’ creative thinking ability and students’ creative thinking disposition.

PENERAPAN METODE COOPERATIVE LEARNING DALAM PEMBELAJARAN MENULIS TEKS IKLAN, SLOGAN, DAN POSTER UNTUK PENINGKATAN AKTIVITAS DAN KREATIVITAS SISWA KELAS VIII SMP PASUNDAN 2 BANDUNG


 This research is motivated by learning conditions that are still not optimal, both process and learning outcomes. Therefore, we conducted a research to apply lesson study by using the Cooperative Learning method in Indonesian Language, in writing advertisement, slogans, and posters texts in class VIII of Pasundan 2 Junior High School Bandung. This research is expected to improve learning outcomes, activities and creativities. The research method used is an experimental method. The research subjects were students of Pasundan 2 Bandung Junior High School Class VIII C. This research was an implementation of plan, do and see. The validity of the data is done through triangulation techniques. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the application of lesson study using the Cooperative Learning method is carried out in accordance with the stages in the lesson study, namely plan, do and see. Lesson study makes the learning planning process more mature so that in the implementation of learning the model lecturer feels more prepared. Lesson Study can effectively improve the quality of learning, both processes and results. This can be seen from the test results which are tested on the average significant improvement. Likewise in the process, based on the observations made, the activity and creativity of students of Pasundan 2 Junior High School Bandung increased. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of lesson study with cooperative learning effectively increases the activity, creativity, and learning outcomes of students in Pasundan 2 Junior High School Bandung significantly.

Penggunaan multimedia interaktif untuk meningkatkan literasi digital siswa SMP pada mata pelajaran IPA

This research using interactive multimedia to improve digital literacy of Junior High School students in natural science learning, focused in the material structure of the earth and disasters. The study consisted of two meetings using innovative technology in the form of interactive multimedia with different sub-material, namely (1) earth and volcanic structures, and (2) earth natural disasters and disaster mitigation. The aspects of digital literacy will be assessed in this research such as: accessing, analyzing and evaluating, creating, reflecting, and communicating. This research is qualitative research with descriptive method. Samples were taken with simple random sampling technique. Samples were student of grade VIII in 2 Junior High School in Bandung as many as 30 students. The result showed that natural science learning on the material structure of the earth and disasters by using interactive multimedia can improve digital literacy of Junior High School students with a difference overall percentage of 4.00 % from 1st meeting (70.33 %) to 2nd meeting (74.33 %). Thus, it can be concluded that by using interactive multimedia can improve digital literacy of Junior High School students in the material structure of the earth and disasters. At the end, it is expected to do a similar study related to the effort to improve digital literacy with other material.

Epistemological Obstacles on The Quadratic Inequality

Students often experience difficulties and errors in solving quadratic inequality problems. These difficulties and errors are not only caused by students’ ignorance or misconceptions, but also caused by epistemological obstacles. This study aimed to determine the epistemological obstacles faced by the junior high school students in quadratic inequality. This research was a qualitative research that involved 105 ninth-grade students at one of the junior high schools in Bandung, Indonesia. The data were collected through open-ended tasks and task-based interviews. The data were analyzed using the inductive coding process to classify students’ errors. The descriptive analysis was carried out to reveal students’ ways of understanding and ways of thinking behind each error to be compared with historical analysis. Based on the description of ways of understanding and ways of thinking and comparison with this historical phenomenon, the epistemological obstacles had be confirmed. The results showed that there were epistemological obstacles in quadratic inequalities. The epistemological obstacles consisted of students' quadratic equation knowledge acts and students' arithmetic knowledge acts. However, no epistemological obstacles were found in the development history of quadratic inequality. Students' epistemological obstacles were parallel to the historical phenomena of quadratic inequality.

The effect of autonomy training on student engagement in junior high school students

The Purpose of this study was determine the effect of Autonomy training on student of “X” junior high school in Bandung. The Sample of this study was 20 students who were classified as having low student engagement degrees were choosen used purposive sampling method. The Student Engagement instrument (SEI) adapted from theory J. Appleton, S. Christenson, D. Kim, dan A. Reschly (2017)is self-repot measure of cognitive and affective. Criterion Validity of this Instrument is 0.302- 0.877 and reliability is 0.747. Behavioral Engagement instrument adapted from theory J. Appleton, S. Christenson, D. Kim, dan A. Reschly (2017), with criterion validity is 0.317- 0.605 only for this research. The result showed there was an increase in the level of student engagement before and after training, statistical test show Asymp Sig <0.05 (N=-3.923) indicates the Hi is accepted, there is a difference in student engagement through autonomy training on student. The suggestion of this research is that student are expected to able to apply this training activity to daily life such as the method of making plans, goal and effort before the beginning of the school semester, So that they can be regular to make targets by themeselves and achieve them.

Understanding of Social Studies Teachers on the Scientific Approach

This study aims to analyze the level of social studies teacher's understanding of scientific learning approaches. The subjects of this study were 60 junior high school social studies teachers in Bandung, Indonesia. This research uses survey design. Data collection uses questionnaires. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA with IBM SPSS 22. The findings indicate that social studies teachers have understood the mechanism of scientific learning in a moderate level. Some of the answers to questions show an understanding of the stages of social science learning in junior high schools in Bandung. The response confirms that they have understood the mechanism of scientific learning with a moderate level of understanding. Although the majority of respondents have the low understanding of the four stages of scientific learning, almost all research questions answered by teacher respondents are appropriate by scientific standards. This result can practically be a direction for policy makers to formulate teacher education which does not merely emphasize the pedagogical and professional aspects in terms of students' mastery and teaching materials, but also deepens epistemological aspects and scientific mechanisms to broaden scientific fundamentals in classroom.

Studi Komparasi Chi-Square Perilaku Konsumsi Pornografi Bagi Remaja Berdasarkan Perbedaan Jenis Kelamin

Kementrian Komunikasi dan Informasi sepanjang tahun 2019 menunjukkan bahwa konten pornografi merupakan konten yang paling banyak diadukan dengan total 1.002.754 aduan. Aduan tersebut adalah yang tertinggi dibanding jenis aduan konten internet lainya. Banyak studi melaporkan mengenai perilaku konsumsi pornografi dan hasilnya menunjukkan banyak perbedaan mengenai jenis serta frekuensi konsumsi yang dilakukan oleh laki-laki dan perempuan. Remaja merupakan usia yang dominan dalam konsumsi internet di Indonesia, sehingga penelitian dilakukan di salah satu sekolah menengah pertama negeri di kota Bandung. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan menggunakan uji komparasi chi-square. Teknik pengambilan sampel adalah dengan multistage random sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 99 persen remaja pernah mengonsumsi konten pornografi. Perbedaan konsumsi pornorgafi ditemukan pada jenis media dan konten yang dikonsumsi, sumber platform yang digunakan, jenis karakter pornografi, sedangkan frekuensi, tempat mengkases dan rekan yang menemani saat mengonsumsi pornografi, tidak ditemukan perbedaan.

Profile of mathematical representation ability of junior high school students in Indonesia

This study aims to determine students’ mathematical representation abilities. The research uses descriptive qualitative method. This ability is addressed after the students have answered five validated mathematical representation problems. The research subjects are 35 students of class VIII in one of State Junior High Schools in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The state junior high school is included in the medium level category according to the achievement of the National Final Examination score. The results of this study indicate that students still have difficulty in drawing the graph to solve Two-Variable Linear Equations, students have difficulty in making equations or mathematical expression and students have difficulty in solving and drawing conclusion from the problems of Two-Variable Linear Equation System in text.

STUDENTS RESPONSE TOWARD THE USE OF SCANNING TECHNIQUE IN READING RECOUNT TEXT

The intention of this research is to know the students’ responses toward the use of a scanning technique in reading recount text. Scanning technique is either of alternative ways to reading especially in reading recount text because it could help students to easy to find the answer of the test with used multiple-choice form, students will respond to the question quickly. This research used descriptive qualitative method and the participant of this research was in the eighth grade of a Junior High School in Bandung. This research has been implemented by giving questionnaires consisted of positive and negative statements. The results show that almost all of the students (71.80%) agree that the use of scanning techniques in reading on recount text becomes easy and they can understand the text well and fast and answer in a simple way.

THE USE OF THINK PAIR SHARE TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING SPEAKING

The aim of this research was to describe the use of Think Pair Share technique in teaching speaking at the eighth grade of a Junior High School in Bandung. Think Pair Share is a part of cooperative learning strategies that enables the students work together in a small group. The research was conducted using qualitative research method involving 25 students as the research subjects. The data were gathered from observation and questionnaire. The result of the data analysis indicated that the students’ experience after they were taught by using Think Pair Share has shown their excitement towards the teaching process as described. There are good implications in speaking performance after learning by Think Pair Share technique. Think Pair Share technique in this case can be one of the alternative teaching techniques used by the English teacher in teaching English, especially speaking. Keywords: Speaking, Think Pair Share

PROCESS ORIENTED GUIDED INQUIRY LEARNING, PEMBELAJARAN VAN HIELE, DAN KETERKAITANNYA

This research is a descriptive research. The purpose of this research was to analyze the relationship between POGIL model and van Hiele learning in an effort to increase the level of students' geometrical thinking. This research was implemented in one of junior high school in Bandung. The population in this research was grade VII students. The sample consisted of 63 students. Data level of students' geometrical thinking obtained through test techniques. Test questions are arranged based on indicators from each level. The data collection technique was carried out using the triangulation method. The data analysis technique was descriptive. Steps in this research are identifying the problem, reviewing the literature, arranging the instrument, collecting the data, analyzing the data and making the conclussion. This research shows the relation betwenen POGIL model and van Hiele Learning. They are (1) engage dan elicit steps in POGIL discribes inquiry step in van Hiele learning, (2) explore step discribes direct orientation step, (3) explanation step discribes explication step, (4) elaborate & extend steps discribes orientation step, (4) evaluation step discribes integration step.

Learning Three-Dimensional Shapes in Geometry Using Mobile-Based Augmented Reality

<pre><span lang="IN">Learning three-dimensional shape of geometry is important for improving students’ spatial abilities. However, the concept of three-dimensional shape is still considered as one of difficult subject matters for teacher to teach and for student to understand in Indonesia. Therefore, it is necessary to find an alternative way that can allow teachers and students to easily understand some concepts of geometry. In this research, we try to implement mobile-based augmented reality in presenting three-dimensional geometry materials to help teachers and students of junior high school in Bandung, Indonesia. The results show that by using mobile based augmented reality, teachers can teach three dimensional shape of geometry clearly and students could understand the concept of three-dimensional shape of geometry faster. In addition, students can learn the concept of geometry comprehensively through geometry objects that can be seen from all points of view and students' spatial activities are increased</span></pre>
