Abstract

During this COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia also threatened with natural disasters since it is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire. Therefore, future generations should be prepared to have STEM Literacy related to solve a real-world problem using their integrated science with technology, engineering, and mathematical knowledge. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of STEM project-based learning on students’ STEM literacy in the earth layer and disaster topic. The research approach used was a pre-experiment method with one group pretest and posttest design. The instrument is multiple-choice questions. The population of this study is 7th grade student in Junior High School in Bandung, and the sample consists of 30 students chosen by convenience sampling technique. The result of normalized gain showed that there is an improvement of student‘s STEM Literacy by 0.47 categorized as a medium improvement. Technology literacy was the highest improvement, while science literacy, engineering literacy, and mathematical literacy gained medium improvement. STEM Project-Based Learning approach is recommended to improve students’ STEM literacy during this pandemic that needs to carried by online learning.
