Online Distance Learning Perception and Readiness During Covid-19 Outbreak: A Research Review

The purpose of this study is to understand the perception and readiness on online distance learning. The study aims to add to the growing body of knowledge that has looked at many different variables that may affect educator and student performance by using a qualitative analysis approach research review, this study reviewed 26 published papers and research studies on the online learning, this study focusing on how theories, practices and assessments online to the current environment. The propose of this study is to provide suggestion for online distance learning. Based on this review, author focuses on the online distance learning, perceptions online distance learning at tertiary level educator and readiness to online distance learning, Because of challenges are interrelated, based on the findings, the researcher propose a conceptual framework of emerging issues for e-learning in Malaysia. The framework is useful to guide both practice and research. The researchers would like to recommend for future research to investigate the comparison between students' and lecturer's readiness to use Online Distance Learning (ODL) by using quantitative approach where more respondents can participate in the study.

Issues in E-Learning during Covid-19 in Morocco: A Focus on EFL Master Students’ Voices

E-learning has recently been given much attention in Higher Education (HE) in Morocco. This article has to do with students’ reflections on using technology in online classes for one semester during the emergency of Covid-19 pandemic. The research design for this study is qualitative in which unstructured interview was used to collect data from thirty-two Master Program students at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of Dhar Mehraz at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Morocco as a convenient sampling. The thematic analysis was used to analyze the retrieved data via e-mails. The findings of this study indicate that online learning for master students in Morocco was not as effective as in face-to-face instructions. It was also found that master students encountered many challenges in online classes during the unexpected circumstances of the pandemic due to the unpreparedness of the educational system, which paves the way to some recommendations in the field of online teaching/learning classes.

Design and Evaluation of an Engagement Framework for e-Learning Gamification

Recently, gamification in education software development to improve student engagement and performance has become prevalent. Gamification is used to counter attrition and dropout issues in e-learning. A handful of methods are presented for the gamification of e-learning systems in the literature. However, the e-learning gamification methods proposed in the literature lacked consistency. The number and types of game elements used in the methods are varied. In addition, there is a lack of an engagement framework that can be used in applying game elements to e-learning systems. Therefore, this paper provides insights into gamification and how it is used in e-learning systems. Then, the study proposes and evaluates an engagement framework that can be used to guide developers on how to add game elements to e-learning to improve student engagement and performance. The framework consists of three components: game elements, learning activities, and engagement factors components. Two experts evaluate the engagement framework via a semi-structured interview. The evaluation results indicate that developers can efficiently and effectively use the framework to gamify e-learning systems for improved student engagement and performance.

Feature Evaluation of Emerging E-Learning Systems Using Machine Learning: An Extensive Survey

As of late, with the progression of AI and man-made brainpower, there has been a developing spotlight on versatile e-learning. As all ways to deal with e-learning lose their allure and the level of online courses builds, they move towards more customized versatile learning so as to collaborate with students and achieve better learning results. The schools focus on the examination, mindfulness, and arranging techniques that infuse innovation into the vision and educational program. E-learning issues are a standard examination issue for us all. The motivation behind this research analysis is to separate the potential outcomes of assessing e-learning models utilizing AI strategies such as Supervised, Semi Supervised, Reinforced Learning advances by investigating upsides and downsides of various methods organization. The literature review methodology is to review the cross sectional impacts of e-learning and Machine learning algorithms from existing literatures from the year 1993 to 2020 and to assess the essentialness of e-learning features to optimize the e-learning models with available Machine learning techniques from peer-inspected journals, capable destinations, and books. Second, it legitimizes the chances of e-learning structures introduction, and changes demonstrated through AI and Machine Learning algorithms. This examination assists in providing helpful new highlights to analysts, researchers and academicians. It gives an exhaustive structure of existing e-learning frameworks for the most recent innovations identified with learning framework capacities and learning tasks to envision ML research openings in appropriate spaces. The survey paper identifies and demonstrates the important role of different types of e-learning features such as Individual pertinent feature, Course pertinent feature, Context pertinent feature and Technology pertinent feature in framework performance tuning. The performance of Machine Learning algorithms to optimize the features of E-Learning models were reviewed in previous literatures and Support Vector Machine technique was found to be the one of the best to predict the input and output parameters of e-learning models and it is found that Fuzzy C Means, Deep Learning algorithms are producing better results for Big Data sets.

DEVELOPMENT OF AN ONTOLOGY-BASED ADAPTIVE PERSONALIZED E-LEARNING SYSTEM

E-learning has fast become an active field of research with a lot of investments towards web-based delivery of personalized learning contents to learners. Some issues of e-learning arise from the heterogeneity and interoperability of learning content adapting to learner's styles and preferences. This has brought about the development of an ontology-based personalized learning system to solve this problem. This research developed an ontology-based personalized e-learning system that presents suitable learning contents to learners based on their learning style, preferences, background knowledge, and personal profile.

Pedagogical Considerations of E-Learning in Education for Development in the Face of COVID-19

Education undergoes changes in globalization which makes it necessary to link people's lives towards development through teaching and learning. This paper explores the pedagogical issues of e-learning in education for development. With the growth of technologies and the fast pace at which Internet usage is spreading worldwide, there is a change in education demand and supply. Demographic changes resulting in increased populations in some contexts pose challenges for Higher Education (HE) regarding the demand for and supply of education especially amidst the global challenge of COVID-19. HE institutions are exploring and adopting instructional modes to manage the changing demands of education as they deal with various challenges especially, with COVID-19. E-learning is one of such modes. This study reviewed literature on the concept pedagogy, the concept of e-learning, theories of learning and their implications to e-learning, contributions of e-learning in education and a discussion around them. It revealed that the contribution of e-learning is a spotlight on learners' needs as they are the focus of all educational processes. The review finally concludes that e-learning should become an option for higher education delivery and recommended the need for instructors to be committed and motivated for effective instructional delivery.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF E-LEARNING AMONG PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN SARAWAK, MALAYSIA

<p>E-learning is playing very important role in the present educational scenario. It has potential to change the whole education system and due to this reason, it has become one of the most preferred subjects for the researchers and scholars working on the various aspects of e-learning. This study is looking into various research works on e-learning for IPTS (Private Institutions of Higher Learning) in Sarawak. The principle objectives of this research includes to examine the suitable research model describing on the methods that shows the motivation in e-learning, (ii) to identify the suitable type of learning in higher education and (iii) to investigate the problems and challenges of implementing e-learning in Private Institute of Higher Learning Sarawak. This study therefore examined the prime factors of two selected IPTS in Sarawak (Saujana Academy of Travel and Tour (SATT) and IBS College (formerly known as Institute BREM Sarawak) in implementing an E-learning and the relations between each influencing factors of acceptance in E-Learning in the University/Colleges by adopting the two basic types of learning which were Computer Based Learning and Internet Based Learning as proposed by Algahtani, 2011. The resulting analysis and interpretation provided a description of the performance of E-Learning influenced by the variables which were the engagement of E-Learning, facilities and computer literacy. The qualitative method in this study derived from a constructive perspective involving in-depth face to face interview with the respondents. The outcome of this study depicted that the influence of internet connectivity and computer-based knowledge equipped the E-Learning implementation and discovered of the advantages and disadvantages of E-Learning in education industry. Based on the findings, three primary variables identified with supporting factors emerged as the critical components categories in this study and these categories represent a conceptual framework for solving E-Learning issues.</p><p> </p><p><strong> Article visualizations:</strong></p><p><img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0620/a.php" alt="Hit counter" /></p>

Impact of Covid-19 on Zambia’s 2020 General Education Examination Candidates’ Academic Performance in Lusaka: E-Learning Issues

The main purpose of this study was to explore the eminent 2020 negative impact of COVID-19 on grades 7, 9 and 12 learners’ national examinations results following the pre-mature closure of all schools on 20th March 2020 by government of the Republic of Zambia.

Barriers to eLearning in rail

This article is one in a series of papers tackling the issues of eLearning in the global rail industry.Little research has been conducted into the learning approaches and methodologies undertaken by rail education and training providers in preparing the rail workforce for the digital revolution. An online survey probed rail education and training provider’s ‘opinion’ on digital learning so that further research could be conducted in the future on the issues and challenges identified. The resulting paper focuses on the results of the survey conducted in April - May 2018 of 31 individuals mainly from the Higher Education sector and representing 15 countries.Analysis showed the majority of respondents had some eLearning experience, either as a course organiser or as a participant, with levels of digital proficiency being wide-ranging.Five different barriers’ categories are investigated in this paper. The results suggest that the greatest obstacles in developing an eLearning portfolio of courses in rail relate to the appropriate course to develop in an online format, the types of technology to be used and cost/benefit analysis related barriers. Issues related to interpersonal barriers were seen as the least problematic.Based on the results presented in this paper, suggestions for overcoming the barriers to eLearning in rail are recommended with some specific actions for decision makers when upgrading staff eLearning skills.

The Impact and Issues of E-Learning with Saudi Arabian Universities and Schools a Systematic Literature Evaluation

E-Learning plays a significant part in the educational field. Many Arab institutions follow the style of E-Learning under field education. Many papers have been showed to understand the role of E-Learning. This paper focuses on Saudi Arabian Schools and Universities regarding their development in E-Learning and the issues faced in the institutions while experiencing it. It is based on Systematic literature review of E-Learning research by collecting and reviewing the studies published from the year 2018 till 2010 to know the situation of E-Learning inside Saudi Arabian schools as well as Universities. This Paper identified around 45 studies which addressed E-Learning. It reflects that the E-Learning has shown a massive development in the past 2 years. The paper covered the research themes such as E-Learning, Students, Schools, Universities and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). It also states the situation in E-Learning under educational sectors of KSA and their issues faced among the people which can be focused and concluded as a part of future research.

E-learning design issues for high-order learning - an application and empirical study in the knowledge domain of digital marketing

In disciplines requiring high technological intensity the success of e-learning can be hampered by a lack of pedagogical support for the intended outcomes. The design of learning activities through mediating tools (MTs) moderates this difficulty, allowing the adaptation of instructional designs so they are pedagogically appropriate to the learning outcomes. Nevertheless, the provision of methods and empirical results to help design activities and properly organise them in MTs remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose a pattern of alignment among learning outcomes, learning activities and MTs that facilitates instructional design, using pedagogical principles based on Bloom's taxonomy and problem-based learning (PBL). A framework is provided to classify, model and implement teacher-centred content into organised student-centred activities that are clustered in MTs with higher-order learning capabilities. This approach can lead to the development of a consistent instructional design, which is susceptible to evaluation, thus making it possible to test further alignments among the obtained results, the intended design characteristics and the pedagogical principles. The results confirm that high levels of Bloom's taxonomy are achieved, particularly with respect to the requirements of learning model centricity and collaborative learning.

SEITI RMLab: A costless and effective remote measurement laboratory in electrical engineering

e-Learning emerged as a way for enhancing the quality of education and providing accessible distance learning to allow learners to study beyond regular class time, transcending the mandatory presence of teachers and the availability of classrooms by providing the necessary resources and services. One of the main issues of e-learning, especially in engineering education, is the lack of online educational laboratories. Practical work remains a considerable burden as engineering educational programs focus on handling real equipment. These last are only accessible within a restrictive schedule and might be unaffordable for low budget institutions. The need is clear for interactive platforms that enhance the motivation and controls the regulation of workload for each student. In this paper, an overview about online laboratories is given and a simple approach of remote lab is suggested. The proposal of our research team (Team SEITI) can be used for carrying-out experiments that require neither assembly nor physical changes until the results are obtained unless a technician, that must be present in the laboratory, acts on equipment. The idea is to set up a real-time measurement retrieval laboratory that requires the involvement of a technician to act on instruments and will grant access to a large scale of students.

Securing E-Learning Environment: A Study of Security Awareness and Behavior of User

Rapid development of the Internet and technology has shifted the education environment from traditional classroom environments to a state of the art technology-based environment. The term e-learning describes the situation where teaching and learning activities are done not only in classrooms, but virtually using the Internet. Users of e-learning system can access their course materials, lecture notes, quizzes, exams and discussion rooms through the Internet everywhere and at any time. While the technology makes the access easy, there are issues, particularly related to security that need to be concerned. The challenges in securing an e-learning system do not fall on the system itself, or the infrastructure. It is user awareness and behavior that give opportunities to the attackers to compromise the system. Low security awareness leads to poor behavior, which results to system compromise. This paper discusses security awareness and behavior of e-learning users as the main focus to secure the overall e-learning environment. Furthermore, this paper reviews the existing research explaining e-learning environment, security, threats and issues.

The Three P's for Increased Student Engagement in Moodle : An E-learning Guide for Teachers

Introduction E-learning is a phenomenon which has enjoyed a buzzword status in educational circles and has challenged our conceptions regarding the accessibility of learning. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) such as Coursera, is one such aspect of this phenomenon. (“Massive open online course,” 2014) These courses gather learners by the thousands on a plethora of subjects both academic and non-academic, usually working closely with universities to reach a wider range of participants. One issue in e-learning is ensuring an adequate degree of engagement and completion of the course.

Perceived Attributes of innovation: Perceived security as an additional attribute to Roger’s Diffusion of Innovation Theory

The study attempts to contribute to the recent call on security issues in eLearning. Security issues in eLearning have been advanced at organizational level. These concerns had not been put in the light of effects on the diffusion of eLearning practice. eLearning involves the use of the web, digital media to deliver knowledge and skills. There is lack of the perspective of security issues at the individual level as a facilitator to the diffusion of innovations. This study proposes perceived security and how it affects the diffusion of eLearning practices in HEI as an additional perceived eLearning (innovation) attribute. The study seeks to find out the extent to which perceived security affect eLearning diffusion in the Universities. The research adopts a quantitative approach by the use of surveys. A survey has the capability of getting a wider and global perspective. Thus, these generalized views facilitate inform decision making in Universities’ eLearning practice. The dependent variable for the quantitative approach is the diffusion of eLearning practice in the Universities. The independent variables are the perceived characteristics of eLearning system by students and the factors that characterize students’ adoption of eLearning systems in Universities. The study found out that perceived security had the highest effect on eLearning diffusion among the students in the three Universities.

Predictor Factors For Actual Usage Of Online Evaluation And Assessment Systems: A Structural Equation Model (SEM) Study

E-Learning has been an emerging topic for education world for two decades, and due to this fact; it has been analyzed with all of its dimensions and factors. However, the evaluation and assessment issues of e-learning can be assumed as untouched especially in students’ perspective. Evaluation and assessment concepts of students’ cognitive, affective and behavioral domains have a lot of variables that affect each other. In this study, predictors of students’ actual usage of online education systems and their relations are designed as a new theoretical framework, and analyzed by applying Structural Equation Model (SEM) analysis. For this analysis, an online questionnaire is applied to the students who have been using a uniquely designed online evaluation and assessment system (OEAS) for five years in a governmental high school. As a result of the study, “self-efficacy” and “user interface design” are found as significantly effective on “perceived ease of use”, while “self-efficacy” and “perceived ease of use” have significant influence on “perceived usefulness”. In addition, it is found that actual usage of online evaluation and assessment system is directly and significantly affected from “perceived usefulness”, “technical support” and “service quality”. To sum up, the conclusions of the study, in students’ perspective, are advisable for the educational technologists.

E-Learning Security Risks and its Countermeasures

E-learning, a novel way in the learning process that involves more interaction between the learners and teachers to some extent, in comparison to the traditional education. Moreover, it depends on the Internet technology and executes via web applications. However, network environment is a honey pot to attract many hackers and it may have some potential security risks such as: malicious attacks, hackers and so on. In addition, network security is one of the security issues of E-learning because it is usually concerns with the instructors, learners, trainers who cannot foresee the risks and know how to prevent the threats and the like. This study mainly focuses on the E-learning security issues and the countermeasures to deal with risks towards e-learning-system.

Curation as a new literacy practice

Curating, as a verb, incorporates many sub-components and actions; it suggests at least the following: collecting, cataloguing, arranging and assembling for exhibition, displaying. As well as the institutional and professional contexts for such work through the centuries and across cultures, many people have made personal collections of texts and artefacts that have stood for them in the world, in some ways, as representing a nexus of relationships, affiliations and markers of identity (Miller, 2008). As with so many aspects of life and cultural practices we should not expect people’s use of digital media to do anything other than change significantly the ways in which curation operates. Indeed it has been suggested that curation itself is now a metaphorical new literacy practice which incorporates the collection, production and exhibition of markers of identity through time in both digital production and social media (Potter, 2012). Such curated media collections and performances are provisional and contingent, permanent or transient and involve varying degrees of agency on the part of the end user, along with risk, opportunity and personal efficacy. For all ages this involves engaging and developing skills and dispositions which enable agency in some way; curatorship is to curation as authorship is to writing. New or adapted skill sets in new media are nascent in people of all ages but suggest certain ways of being and learning for younger people in formal or informal settings of learning. For the purposes of this special issue in E-learning and Digital Media we are defining curation/curatorship in new media as a distinctive new literacy practice and we are exploring through the articles the ways in which this impacts on, or is evidenced in, activity in a variety of spaces.

E-Learning Issues in Education & Training Domain of Apulian Living Labs

The approach of Living Labs, a concept developed at the Media Lab and School of architecture and city planning of MIT, Boston, represents a user- centric research paradigm for prototyping and validating complex solutions in multiple evolving real life contexts. Apulia Region decided to foster this approach in Apulian ICT Living Labs and the follow up programme SMART PUGLIA 2020 Living Labs to facilitate the growth and the development of Apulia SMEs specialized in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) field, digital services and contents. The issues of the most advanced paradigms in e-learning, such as social learning, adaptive learning, e-learning 3.0, augmented reality and virtual reality and robotics applications to e-learning have been tackled in Apulian Living Labs projects. This paper introduces the e-learning projects in the Education & Training domain of the Apulian Living Labs and reports the e-learning technologies developed to address the end user’s needs in the domain above.
