Adaptive change: Emerging economy enterprises respond to the international business environment challenge

The technological and market containment of emerging economy enterprises (EEEs) from developed countries is becoming a great challenge for EEE development. In this context, how do EEEs respond to international business challenges and achieve continuous organizational innovation? This study proposes a process model of EEEs’ organizational adaptive change to achieve innovation using the case of Hikvision, a leading Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) enterprise. The results show that the adaptive change in EEEs is a dynamic process. The negative impact of international business environment challenges on enterprise development is the starting point for enterprises to adopt change behaviors. Through adaptive change in innovation strategy, innovation architecture and innovation systems, EEEs can break through technology blockades, overcome market crises and further weaken the negative impact of such challenges. This study constructs an adaptive change process model for EEEs and proposes strategic initiatives for EEEs with the help of a national innovation system (NIS), which has policy implications for EEE strategies and industrial policy design in emerging economies.

Business diplomacy influence on multinational corporations’ foreign economic activity processes

Doing business internationally means facing a complex international business environment. The article presents a comprehensive analysis of business diplomacy in transnational corporations as a mechanism for managing complex interactions with governmental and non-governmental organizations. The purpose of the study is to develop basic recommendations for business diplomacy integration in the domestic companies’ activities based on the definition of its role in transnational corporations. The methodological basis of the study was formed by the papers of Russian and foreign scientists. The main functions that are in the area of business diplomacy responsibility have been defined. The main advantages for transnational corporations provided by business diplomacy, the importance of which is more realized in a weak institutional context, have been highlighted. Based on the parameters described by H. Ruël, T. Wolters, and R. Loohuis in “Business Diplomacy in Multinational Corporations”, the activity of Merz, which operates mainly in aesthetic medicine, has been analyzed from the point of implementing the principles and means of business diplomacy. Recommendations have been provided for multinational corporations to integrate the business diplomacy principles into their activities in order to increase its effectiveness. The authors concluded that business diplomacy strengthens a company’s position in the market, helps to expand its influence, and contributes to its development.

Conceptualisation and Determination of the Concept of Creating Shared Value: The Results of a Delphi Study

Objective: The purpose of the article is to present the genesis of the concept of Creating Shared Value (CSV), re-conceptualise it, and point out the main dimensions of value creation. In addition, the article describes the existing interdependencies between the various dimensions and the distinct approaches to defining these dimensions. Research Design & Methods: The article presents the results obtained from an expert survey conducted using the Delphi method. The survey allowed us to obtain experts’ opinions on approaches to defining the creation of shared value and its dimensions. Findings: The results obtained suggest a different approach to understanding and defining the concept of CSV and the dimensions of value creation. In the study experts pointed to the connection of the CSV concept with other management theories and concepts in corporate social responsibility and sustainability. They emphasised the role of creating shared value to different stakeholder groups in the complex internal and external business environment. The difficulty of linking company strategy, business models, and activities with social, environmental, or economic goals was pointed out. Implications / Recommendations: The article presents the results obtained from the first part of a study aimed at constructing a tool to measure the creation of shared value. They are the starting point for both the development of the dimensions of the construct and the factors which can be measured to evaluate the creation of social, economic and environmental value in each dimension. Contribution: The article contributes to the understanding of the concept of CSV as a management theory in the context of enhancing the competitive position of organisations and provides a methodological basis for developing a CSV measurement tool.

ECONOMIC AND ANALYTICAL BASIS OF DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF ADMINISTRATION PROCESSES IN CONSTRUCTION ENTERPRISES

An effective management system at an enterprise should be built on the use of optimal tools. Data Science is one of the ways to optimize the management system of a business entity through the use of analytical procedures that will help to obtain high-quality and timely information content to prevent risks in the internal business environment. Analytical tools allow identifying problematic aspects of the company's activities, assessing the impact of factors and developing ways to eliminate the negative impact of factors with further development of a development strategy. Interpretation of the results of the analysis of activities using predictive analytics helps to improve the efficiency of the management system at the enterprise. The conceptual foundations of updating business processes and management systems for a construction enterprise on the basis of digitalization (digital administration) are substantiated, which are positioned as a means for the enterprise to achieve competitive advantages in the multi-project field of construction development. Analytical IT tools should be applied to a sufficient amount of qualitative and operational information, which will allow for effective integration of research results into the management process at an enterprise. The article is devoted to solving an urgent scientific and applied problem of developing theoretical foundations and methodology, which includes information models, methods, cognitive mechanisms that allow for the analysis, selection, optimization, and evaluation of the effectiveness of the introduction of modern concepts of information modeling and integrated implementation of a construction project.

The Mechanism of International Entrepreneurship to Improve the Innovation Performance of Enterprises: Based on the Perspective of Social Network

In order to avoid the negative impact of external disadvantages and changing international business environments, enterprises have an urgent need to establish an effective social network, seek improvement in innovation performance, and stabilize their position in the international market. This paper conducts an exploratory single case study on the Midea Group, investigates the mechanism of international entrepreneurship to improve enterprise innovation performance based on the formation of multiple social networks, including government network, business network, and technological network, and discovers that in the process of international entrepreneurship, three-dimensional social networks contribute to resource conversion, research and development capability, market share, and other factors that boost corporate innovation performance. This research helps to understand the key elements in the process of international entrepreneurship, as well as how to build a close social network with stakeholders, rationally allocate and share various resources, and improve the international business environment and innovation performance of enterprises.

The article investigates the role of strategic alliances in developing international business. This study aims to analyze the essence, forms, types, advantages, and disadvantages of strategic alliances, as well as to identify key success factors and potential risks associated with their formation. The research methodology includes a comprehensive literature review and a case study analysis of successful strategic alliances between leading international companies in various industries. The study results demonstrate that strategic alliances have become a powerful tool for achieving synergy and enhancing the competitiveness of companies in international markets. The article highlights the importance of careful planning, partner selection, clear goal setting, and continuous monitoring for the effective implementation of strategic alliances. The study also examines current trends in the development of strategic alliances in the context of globalization and digital transformation of business. The practical value of the study lies in providing insights and recommendations for companies considering the formation of strategic alliances to expand their global presence and achieve sustainable growth in the face of increasing competition and technological challenges. The article concludes by emphasizing the growing significance of strategic alliances as a key instrument for synergy and competitiveness in the international business environment and outlines potential directions for future research in this field. The article is devoted to the study of the place and role of the digitalization process of the countries of the African continent in the context of their integration into the international business environment. The article highlights the essence and mechanisms of the implementation of information and communication technologies based on the measurement of the index of readiness of countries for digital networks, the theoretical and methodological aspects of formation of the conceptual apparatus of researched issues and the market competitiveness of African countries in the conditions of globalization of the world economy are determined. The work analyzes the global experience of managing the process of digitalization of the international economy in general and international business in particular, the methods and mechanisms of regulation of this process are determined; researched mechanisms of state influence on enterprises and the conditions under which it is appropriate to use it; a modernized approach to the implementation of leading experience in the management activities of enterprises in African countries is also proposed. The article identifies the leading countries in the field of digitalization, their role in global and local markets is clarified; the prospects for changing the rates of population growth in the African region and the consequences of this growth as part of the expansion of high-tech businesses to regional and international markets are outlined; the predicted degree of their presence in the countries of the African continent. Particular attention is paid to the general features of the modern stage of the development of international business, the role of innovations in the development of strategies for the development of the economies of African countries is determined; an assessment of the effectiveness of the set of strategies of international companies was provided, which ultimately allowed us to propose a number of practical and recommended actions aimed at improving and improving the process of managing the processes of digitalization of the business environment of the countries of the African continent.

Інноваціонно-екологічні аспекти розвитку вітчизняного підприємництва

The aim of the article is to provide a theoretical substantiation of the formation of innovative and ecological aspects of the development of domestic entrepreneurship in conditions of turbulence. The main motives for the introduction of ecological innovations at domestic enterprises are considered, the possibility of creating a new management system on the basis of innovation policy and synergetic space is considered. The ways and mechanisms of increasing innovation and ecological activities are described and methods of implementation are proposed. It is analyzed that the improvement of the innovation management system and the development of the internal business environment involves changes in the sphere of planning, employment of the population of the region, promotion of products, interaction of the authorities, domestic entrepreneurship, as well as knowledge management. Innovations in the field of business management will provide a long-term competitive advantage to specific areas and contribute to their development, taking into account and combining scientific and technological solutions with administration and innovation management. Particular attention is paid to domestic enterprises in the ecological aspect – for the implementation of innovative and ecological activities, business strategies and the search for a balance between profit, ecological protection and social justice. On the basis of the carried out analysis of the ecological aspects of innovation activity, important characteristics of innovative development of domestic enterprises have been allocated and an understanding of this economic category has been provided. Based on the results of the analysis of scientific papers, the main directions of innovative development of enterprise are determined, as well as the main motivational principles in this area are considered. Today, in order to overcome the innovation and ecological crisis, it is important to develop and implement ecologically friendly and cost-effective innovations. Ecological innovations, like other types of innovation, are aimed at making a profit and reducing costs, but their specificity is manifested in social, cultural and ethical contexts.

Mediating Factor of Strategy Business in the Relationship between Environmental and Business Performance

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the internal and external business environment on the formulation of business strategy, the impact of business strategy on business performance, and the impact of the internal and external business environment on the performance of the Service and Creative Industry Cluster MSMEs in DKI Jakarta. This study employs a quantitative approach to research, collecting data through observation and interviews and processing primary data derived from respondents' questionnaire responses. Using SEM-PLS 3 Version, the validity test, the reliability test, outer loading, the inner model fit (R-Square), the significance test (hypothesis test), and the F-Square Test are then utilized to assess the study data. F-square of 0.409 > f-square of 0.35, the External Environment has a moderate influence on Business Strategy. The moderate influence of the Internal Environment on the Outcome of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, as indicated by the F-Square value of 0.29, is accompanied by a modest effect. The finding from this research indicates that the service and creative industry cluster MSME actors in DKI Jakarta formulate business strategies to become Prospector, Analysts, Low-Cost Defender, and Different Defender based on or have different external environmental backgrounds in terms of demography, politics/law, economic conditions, and the technology used to run their respective businesses.

The Tax Cooperation Mechanism between China and African Countries and the Avoidance of a Double Taxation Agreement

The tax cooperation mechanism between China and African countries has a bearing on the business environment of bilateral economic and trade cooperation. At present, the tax cooperation mechanism between China and African countries has developed rapidly by way of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the Belt and Road Initiative (B&R), but it still faces challenges, such as an insufficiency in tax agreements, differences on the agreement content, a lack of trans-regional tax cooperation agreements and support mechanisms to promote tax cooperation and exchange. To improve the China-Africa international business environment, it is necessary to enhance the tax cooperation mechanism between China and African countries, including the speeding up and signing of tax treaties, coordinating and improving the content of the agreements, negotiating a convention of trans-regional tax cooperation, setting up a tax supporting cooperation dialogue mechanism, strengthening the construction of tax capacity and improving the tax dispute settlement mechanism.

Streamlined Resilient Post-COVID-19 Supply Chain in Industry 4.0: A Case Study on Romania

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the digitization of the logistics industry, exceeding the expectations of some companies. Ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the online ordering and delivery process has major implications for their profitability and market position. This study aims to classify firms in the logistics sector based on their financial accounting performance and determine if software designed for the logistics sector can improve their performance. By using advanced data analysis methods such as cluster analysis and neural network training, the study identifies three distinct classes. One company from a lower class was given a scenario for implementing digitization, improving its performance indicators, and enabling its movement to a higher class. The practical implications of the study are related to the domestic and international business environment, providing an overview of the logistics sector in Romania and a direction for growth for companies operating in the sector.

Business Continuity Management for Data Outage Disruptor: A Study on a Private Hospital in Negeri Sembilan

The healthcare sector is a sector that faces many threats disrupting its critical services. Hence, the development of a solid plan for service continuity is crucial for the healthcare industry. The goal of this study is to analyse the internal and external business environment of healthcare institutions and determine threats that they are most vulnerable to. Based on the disruptors, thus study developed a Business Continuity Plan (BCP). This is a case study focusing on a private hospital in Negeri Sembilan. The respondents consist of 27 managerial level staffs from different departments. Data was collected using questionnaires. The collected data was on operational services critical operations, internal and external services dependencies. Business Impact Assessment (BIA) is used to assess strategies and solutions based on the supplied disruptors. Results of the BIA are used for the development of Business Continuity Plan for the private hospital.

Spatial preferences of small and medium knowledge based enterprises in Tehran new business area

In recent decades, there has been a growing emphasis on the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as a significant driver of economic growth and enhancer of competitiveness. They constitute an estimated 90% of the total population of businesses, and contribute significantly, up to 40% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in emerging markets. Furthermore, these enterprises yield a fundamental function in cultivating job prospects, offering employment to approximately half of the worldwide labor force. However, SMEs often face unique challenges related to their size and resources, including accessing finance, developing new products and services, and identifying optimal locations for their businesses. This study seeks to address the latter issue by analyzing the spatial preferences of small and medium knowledge-based enterprises in Tehran's new business area, utilizing the spatial analyst tools by GIS. The research methodology employed in this study is non-experimental in character. It involves the distribution of a social survey to proprietors of SMEs in order to ascertain the key criteria they prioritize when selecting a location for their business. For the purpose of achieving the objective, a conceptual-operational model was developed, comprising four index categories. These categories are delineated as the personal motivations of the entrepreneur, the characteristics of the internal business environment, the spatial environment surrounding the business, and the institutional factors shaping the space. These components constitute critical determinants of the proposed model. The chosen variables were subjected to spatial analysis, and a business environment assistance map was developed in four zones. Following thorough analysis, the northwestern part of the area under consideration has been identified as the optimal zone, and subsequent recommendations for appropriate strategies have been proposed. The study culminated by offering suggestions for improvement, consisting of the implementation of a contextually-oriented model pertaining to new Iranian business improvement districts (BIDs) as a means of augmenting the status of SMEs.

Crossing digital frontiers with cultural intelligence - a new paradigm for project managers

The evolution of the international business environment during the past twenty years due to globalization and the recent pandemic determined an increase in international projects requiring new organizational and individual capabilities to ensure project success. Cross-cultural competencies have been analyzed within the cross-cultural management field and organizational behavioral studies, with limited research available in the international project management field.Through a comprehensive literature review, the current research outlines the gap within the project management domain concerning the need triggered by the pandemic to acquire cross-cultural and digital abilities among project professionals. We disclose how the existent globalized virtual environment differs from the new one triggered by the pandemic due to the forced shift to the digital setting with a strong impact on in-person interactions, verbal and non-verbal communication.The originality of this work resides in the development of a novel project professional ability framework, including digital and cross-cultural components that emerged during the pandemic. Secondly, we propose the application of the identified cross-cultural and digital abilities within the project process group of the life cycle based on their scope and outputs.

Agile SHRM practices and employee-organisational outcomes during new normal: evidence from India and Thailand

PurposeThe purpose of the cross-cultural study is three-fold – (1) to examine the effect of agile strategic human resource management (ASHRM) practices for each stage of the employee life-cycle on employee outcomes, (2) to investigate employee outcomes – organisational outcome linkage and (3) to explore the link between organisational outcomes and shared values to society.Design/methodology/approachThe research used random sampling to select 674 managers (358 from India and 316 from Thailand) who work in food processing firms. A structured questionnaire was administered to the respondents separately for collecting data. The authors used PLS-SEM to verify the study hypotheses and related research models.FindingsThe multi-group analysis (MGA) results indicated a significant difference in agile SHRM practices, employee outcomes, organisational outcomes and shared values in the Indian and Thai samples. However, the difference in the impact of the organisational outcome on shared values to society was found to be insignificant, suggesting that organisational outcome had a similar impact on shared values in both countries.Practical implicationsThe agile strategic HR practices, especially talent acquisition, learning and development, reward and recognition, must be aligned to suit country-specific culture for improving job satisfaction, employee engagement and employee productivity, which would result in improved organisational outcomes such as profitability and customer satisfaction, ultimately enhancing shared values to society. This comparative analysis would also help the Indian and Thai food sectors develop new strategies or alter existing ones in light of the ASHRM model.Originality/valueThe study provides an innovative ASHRM framework from a cross-cultural perspective, which may help organisations to adopt agile talent acquisition, career development and separation strategies to thrive in the turbulent international business environment.

Impact of labour migration on international business environment

It has been established that international migration contributes to optimizing the distribution of human capital, reducing interregional differences, and improves the functioning of labour markets, the international business environment of host countries and countries of origin. A generalization of the results of previous empirical studies suggests that the positive effect of migration is higher than the negative effects of impact on national markets, while this impact is different for highly and low skilled workers, for firms and employees, and for producers and consumers. In the host countries, migration allows filling job positions in what the indigenous population does not agree to work, contributes to the expansion of production and lowering of the tax burden on the working population. In countries of origin, migration reduces unemployment and makes the national labour market more flexible. Thus, international labour migration opens up new opportunities for the socio-economic development of host EU member states, provoking a large number of problems both at the level of society and the state. The current stage of integration processes in the EU is accompanied by the rapid development of external migration processes, so the unified EU migration policy must be implemented taking into account the problems associated with the mass flows of immigrants to European countries, the consequences of the financial and economic crisis, the current trends in European labour markets, and the real needs of these labour markets. It should be noted that the existence of a direct link between migration and the unemployment rate and difference in income makes it possible to empirically confirm one of the main tenets of the neoclassical macro-level theory that migration arises as a result of the difference in income between regions (countries) and the existence of labour surplus in the region where the migrants come from. Consequently, workers migrate from low-wage and labour surplus regions to high-wage and labour shortage regions. Thus, a migrant's goal is to maximize its income and minimize its costs.
