Research on the factors that influence the consumption intention for intangible cultural heritage tourism products: based on the TPB and TCV

ABSTRACT Intangible Cultural Heritage Products (ICHP) are derivative products of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and serve as an essential part of the ICH tourist economy. However, the ICHP market faces challenges such as low consumer interest and an underwhelming value conversion rate, prompting a need for in-depth analysis. This research adopts a theoretical framework integrating the perspectives of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Theory of Consumption Values (TCV) to examine the factors influencing the consumption intention for ICHP. Data from 298 Chinese tourists who visited ICH sites was collected to test the hypotheses. The research findings indicate that (a) perceived emotional value, perceived conditional value, attitudes toward ICHP consumption, and subjective norms have positive and significant impacts on the consumption intention for ICHP. Among these variables, subjective norms have the most significant effect. (b) Nostalgia has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between consumers’ attitudes toward ICHP consumption and consumption intention. (c) Perceived cultural value, perceived social value, and perceived behavioural control do not significantly impact the intention to consume ICHP. Implications for ICHP practitioners and researchers are further discussed based on our research findings.

Hainan's Li ethnic intangible cultural heritage is diverse and holds significant historical and cultural value. However, its promotion and innovation in the tourism industry still require improvement. This paper analyzes the characteristics, challenges, and potential of Hainan's Li ethnic intangible cultural heritage and proposes a series of innovative and promotional strategies to facilitate the sustainable development of Hainan Li ethnic intangible cultural heritage tourism products.

Unpacking Generation Z tourists’ motivation for intangible cultural heritage tourism

ABSTRACT Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) tourism is a vital means of promoting cultural diversity and sustainable development. Improving the younger generation’s engagement in ICH tourism can contribute to the inheritance and preservation of ICH. Drawing on self-determination theory, this study examines Generation Z tourists’ intrinsic and extrinsic motivations for participating in ICH tourism. Findings reveal that two intrinsic motives (authenticity and novelty seeking) and three extrinsic motives (cultural identification, social sustainability, and social media engagement) positively influence Generation Z travellers’ intention to take ICH tourism. Historical nostalgia, as an intrinsic motivation, does not affect their intention toward ICH tourism.

Developing new forms of tourism based on intangible culture heritage and creativity in Egypt

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to discuss the need to establish linkages between tourism, intangible cultural heritage and creativity in Egypt and also diversifying tourism through creativity; and to analyze and explain the impact of intangible cultural heritage on tourism experience in Egypt and the opportunities to generate added value from integrating tourism and creativity. It also suggests some practical steps for developing intangible cultural heritage-based tourism models in Egypt.Design/methodology/approachThe paper proposes a conceptual framework for integrating intangible cultural heritage with tourism in Egypt and its impact on tourism experience. To apply this framework, a case study was conducted focused on the tourism experience derived from intangible cultural heritage in Alexandria. The authors collected primary data by directly observing and experiencing tourism in Egypt, providing valuable firsthand experiential data. These observations offered insights into the practical aspects of intangible cultural heritage-based tourism in Egypt. In addition, secondary data sources such as academic research papers, reports and publications related to tourism and intangible cultural heritage experiences were utilized to support and complement the primary data.FindingsFindings suggest the need for a different approach in intangible heritage based tourism promotion and consumption, an approach that may differ from the conventional and typical considerations in cultural tourism planning and management. In addition, findings emphasized that tourism-based intangible heritage in Egypt can be a constructive platform and sustainable tool to promote the country’s rich culture and traditions while providing employment opportunities for the local population.Research limitations/implicationsThis study provides an exploratory overview of integrating intangible heritage with tourism in Egypt, through exploring Egypt’s intangible heritage and proposing a framework of its inclusion, in order to create an intangible cultural heritage tourism experience. However, the proposed framework and packages should be analyzed and examined on the ground through the heritage, administrative, social and tourist aspects of the destination, to assess the viability of the study.Practical implicationsThe practical implications of this study should be addressed to the decision makers working on management action plans in tourist destinations in Egypt, such as site mangers as well as tour operators. It could contribute to adopting a new approach in developing and implementing a mutually beneficial partnership between intangible heritage and tourism in Egypt.Originality/valueIt is the first study that presents practical steps to develop new models for linking intangible heritage to tourism in Egypt.

TODIM-GRA based multiple-attribute group decision-making technique for risk assessment of intangible cultural heritage tourism development under interval-valued pythagorean fuzzy circumstances

Intangible cultural heritage can be said to be an important component of tourism resources. With the rapid development of society in today’s era, tourism development and intangible cultural heritage protection have gradually attracted attention from Chinese society, and in recent years, it has attracted high attention from relevant departments of the Chinese government. Tourism development has a “dual” impact on the protection of intangible cultural heritage, with both positive and negative impacts. The risk assessment of intangible cultural heritage tourism development is a MAGDM problems. Recently, the TODIM and GRA technique has been employed to manage MAGDM issues. The interval-valued Pythagorean fuzzy sets (IVPFSs) are employed as a tool for characterizing uncertain information during the risk assessment of intangible cultural heritage tourism development. In this paper, the interval-valued Pythagorean fuzzy TODIM-GRA (IVPF-TODIM-GRA) technique is construct to manage the MAGDM under IVPFSs. Finally, a numerical case study for risk assessment of intangible cultural heritage tourism development is employed to validate the proposed technique.

Research on the driving mechanism of tourists' ecological protection behavior in intangible cultural heritage sites.

Despite the increasing focus on intangible cultural heritage tourism, there is a lack of research on the ecological protection behaviors of tourists in these contexts. With UNESCO's continuous refinement of the World Heritage system, intangible cultural heritage has gradually become a focal point for tourism development and protection. While such tourism can promote the preservation and transmission of heritage, it also introduces ecological environmental issues that need to be addressed. Therefore, exploring the driving mechanisms of tourists' ecological protection behavior holds significant practical value. Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), this study constructs a driving model of tourists' ecological protection behavior. It examines the influence of behavioral attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and personal norms on tourists' willingness to engage in ecological protection. By distributing questionnaires both offline and online, we analyzed data from 312 valid responses. The results indicate that all four factors have a significant positive impact on tourists' willingness to engage in ecological protection behavior. Among these factors, personal norms and behavioral attitude have a relatively larger influence. The findings provide valuable references for intangible cultural heritage sites in China and regions with similar cultural and tourism dynamics.

To study the development path of museum intangible cultural heritage tourism industry in the era of digital economy

Abstract The museum incorporates historical resources, stores them in a systematic classification, and then presents them as objects for viewing and learning training. Intangible cultural heritage is the aesthetic crystallization of the wisdom and aesthetics of ancient Chinese people. Combining museums and intangible cultural heritage culture and developing the intangible cultural heritage cultural tourism industry of museums can fully utilize the advantages of museums in terms of location and dissemination, as well as achieve high-quality promotion of intangible cultural heritage culture. The digital era has brought new changes and numerous challenges to the development environment and spatial design methods of the intangible cultural heritage tourism industry in museums. This paper builds a museum intangible cultural heritage cultural tourism platform based on digital tour interaction technology. It considers the advantages of the development of the cultural tourism industry from the “museum + intangible cultural heritage” model, establishes a digital resource management system for museums, digital talent training, and management mode, and digital branding in light of the current development status and challenges of the museum intangible cultural heritage cultural tourism industry. Additionally, we will create a digital resource management system for museums, a digital talent training and management model, and a digital brand marketing system to boost the industry’s ecological development.

Research on the Relationship between the Participation Degree and Experience of China’s Intangible cultural heritage Tourism Activation in the Information Age

Abstract With the development of the trend of cultural and tourism integration, intangible cultural heritage has become an important part of the development of experiential tourism. This paper combines information visualization technology to construct a framework for the design of non-heritage information visualization. By constructing a relevant spatio-temporal retrieval function to reduce the redundancy of non-heritage spatial data storage, combined with the base state correction model, the change process of non-heritage spatial features is retraced. GRU is applied as a unit of temporal feature correlation analysis to model the serial data of the degree of participation in non-heritage tourism revitalization. Two gating controls, the reset gate and the update gate, are used to regulate the flow of NRM information. The relationship between participation level in NRH tourism revitalization and experience was focused on in the information visualization design. The results show that the p-value of tourism experience and tourism revitalization is 0.521**, which is the most significant among all p-values, indicating that tourism experience has the closest relationship with tourism revitalization, and there is a significant positive correlation between both. Among the different groups of tourists, most of the experience scores of group C tourists are concentrated in the range of (80,90), while the advanced level of participation brings visual enjoyment to tourists while conveying the cultural spirit and emotional experience.

A Multiple Geospatial Approach for Intangible Cultural Heritage Tourism Potentiality Mapping in Iran

Intangible cultural heritage has recently emerged as an important sector of sustainable tourism development programs. In this regard, the main objective of this study was to map and examine the capability of different cities in Iran for intangible cultural heritage (ICH) tourism. For the methodological perspective, we employed an integrated geographical information system (GIS) and multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) as efficient geospatial approaches for intangible tourism potentiality assessment. Regarding this goal, we concluded that Iranian pastoral nomads have a number of unique characteristics that are suitable to international tourists from a geographical, social, cultural, and artistic perspective. From the methodological framework, we employed an integrated geographical information system and multiple geospatial approaches for analyzing the ICH features and intangible tourism potentiality assessment. The methodological framework includes several major steps, including (a) the selection of the criteria and preparation of a GIS dataset, as well as standardization; (b) criteria weighting and sensitivity analysis; and finally, (c) criteria aggregation and production of the final ICH maps. The results of this study indicated that there is a very high capability of intangible and cultural tourism and heritage in different parts of the country, which are variable based on the local customs, traditions, events, and cultural characteristics. As the results indicated, the highest level of the ICH potentiality was found in Urmia, Khoy, Tabriz, Mashhad, Shiraz, Isfahan, Dezful, and Kashan. These cities are ranked based on the overall capability and contribution of the national intangible tourism potentiality assessment. The results of this study indicated that Iran has indeed remarkable ICH capabilities that can be used as the base of efficient sustainable development programs. However, due to international sanctions and political issues, developing a sustainable tourism program has already faced critical challenges. Based on the results, we concluded that the information obtained from this study leads local stakeholders, decision-makers, and authorities to identify the potentiality of each area and take into account developing tourism plans. In addition, the obtained information will also support readers, international travelers and tourism agencies to understand the potentiality of each area, as well as the suitability of different areas for intended travel objects, and to develop tourism programs and plans.

Examining the ritualized experiences of intangible cultural heritage tourism

This study systematically conceptualizes and evaluates the dimensionality of ritualized experiences in intangible cultural heritage (ICH) tourism, a nascent and galvanizing product genre that has received scant research attention. It also investigates the interrelationships among ritualized ICH tourism experiences and other key subtle constructs of subjective vitality, self-congruity, and engagement, which are integral to the affective outcomes of cultural tourists yet under-researched in heritage settings. Structural equation modeling (SEM) of data from 357 attendees of a local fair in the heritage-rich Chinese destination of Suzhou confirmed the four-factor dimensionality of ritualized ICH tourism experiences: uniqueness, commitment, ceremoniality, and nonfunctionality. The mediating role played by self-congruity in the positive relationship between ritualized experiences and attendant engagement is also verified. This study adds to the extant research by enriching knowledge on rituality in heritage destination contexts and offering practical references for leveraging the economic and sociocultural values of the destination at large.

Alienation and authenticity in intangible cultural heritage tourism

Intangible cultural heritage (ICH) has the potential to enhance tourism supply and activate tourism resources. This study constructs an alienation and host authenticity model to analyze the attitudes of ICH performers towards support for tourism. Specifically, it investigates the views of giant puppet show performers at the Mount E’mei Scenic Area in China, which is a nationally recognized and first-selected representative traditional drama project of ICH. By employing an asymmetric configuration modeling approach within qualitative comparative analysis, the study identifies six dimensions of ICH performers’ alienation (powerlessness, meaninglessness, normlessness, isolation, self-estrangement, and cultural alienation) and three aspects of their host authenticity (personal value, interpersonal value, and ICH value). Based on these findings, the study confirms the impact of ICH performers’ alienation, host authenticity, and demographic characteristics on their support for tourism. This understanding is crucial for the development, growth, and continuity of a tourist destination. Specifically, this study contributes to a new comprehension of the combined model of alienation and host authenticity, as well as the support for tourism by a host community as represented by ICH performers, thereby making a significant contribution to the understanding of the impact of ICH.

Product Creation and Protective Developments of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Tourism Under the Background of "The Belt and Road"

Objective: "The Belt and Road" has wide variety product creation and protective development programmed preserving has own intangible cultural treasures.
 
 Theoretical Framework: The Belt and Road’s traditional handicrafts are one of the several national intangible cultural heritage initiatives have been successfully created with preservation and protection development in mind.
 
 Methods: They have succeeded in preserving and reviving traditional handicrafts and in creating a system of industrial development that is essentially tuned under the background of “The Belt and Road”.
 
 Results and Conclusion: However, the production and sale of tourism-related crafts is still in its early stages, as is the general development progress of "The Belt and Road"'s traditional handicrafts as intangible cultural property. The paradigm for developing tourism as a commodity must give way for new tourism as well as intangible cultural heritage tourism for the combined intangible cultural heritage product creation and protective developments.
 
 Originality/Value: It is recommended that future research compare the various language databases used in the industry.

Environmental and ecological preservation-oriented tourism development of the intangible cultural heritage of Guangxi, Yunnan and Guizhou ethnic minorities

The intangible cultural heritage of ethnic minorities in Guangxi, Yunnan and Guizhou is born and grows essentially basing local environmental protection. Doubling efforts in protecting the ecological environment is the key to enabling the live transmission of such non-material cultural heritage. To better preserve the environment in places inhabited by ethnic minorities, this paper probed into and verified the live transmission tourism development of the intangible cultural heritage of ethnic minorities in Guangxi, Yunnan and Guizhou, in virtue of the evaluation system built applying the dimensionless method. The results suggested that tourism development has improved the ecological environment of ethnic minority villages. Digitally, the utilization rate of clean energy and resource exceeded 85% and 76.8%, while the vegetarian coverage and afforestation area reached 45% and 137.4 hectares respectively. That made level 5 the impact of the intangible cultural heritage tourism development of ethnic minorities on the corresponding ecological environment, enabling joint development.

Factors affecting the development of Lipu Yi costumes: intangible cultural heritage tourism

PurposeThe primary purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of tourists' perceived value, satisfaction and behavioral intention on the development of Lipu Yi costume culture to promote the development of intangible cultural tourism and better construct a model of the influencing factors of Lipu Yi costumes in the development of intangible cultural heritage tourism.Design/methodology/approachThe study site is the intangible cultural district of Panzhihua, Sichuan Province, China. This study examines the interrelationships between tourists' perceived value of experience, behavioral intention and satisfaction as the tourists relate to Lipu Yi costume and intangible cultural heritage tourism. A sample of 225 tourists who had visited Panzhihua at least once was selected for the study.FindingsAll seven of the survey's hypotheses were supported. Therefore, this study concludes that tourists' perceived value, satisfaction and behavioral intention directly affect the development of intangible cultural tourism and significantly positively impact the growth of Lipu Yi costumes culture. Descriptive analysis, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM) investigation methods were used.Originality/valueThis paper analyzes tourists' perceived value of Lipu costume culture and tourists' satisfaction and behavioral intention during the tourism process. This study provides a more in-depth understanding of the relationship between Lipu Yi costume and non-heritage tourism factors. Practical methods and approaches are sought to further develop Lipu Yi costume non-heritage tourism.

Research on the Development of Intangible Cultural Heritage Tourism Products in Nanchong

Promoting the integrated development of intangible cultural heritage and tourism is an important direction of China's development. Nanchong City, the central city of Northeast Sichuan Economic Zone of China, is selected as the research object. Based on the statistics of the existing intangible cultural heritage tourism resources in Nanchong City, the development status of its intangible cultural heritage tourism products is deeply analyzed by using ASEB grid analysis method. Based on the analysis results, it is proposed that the intangible cultural heritage tourism in Nanchong should be strengthened by constructing the product spectrum of cultural tourism, broadening the channels of tourism publicity, optimizing the design of tourist routes and creating distinctive brand images.

Research on Cultural tourism Resources of Developing "Intangible Cultural Heritage"

Cultural tourism development is one of the important ways to protect and inherit intangible cultural heritage. However, the development of intangible cultural heritage tourism is faced with many difficulties. Taking Huaihe Culture as an example, the development of intangible cultural heritage tourism is faced with such difficulties as the disconnection between planning and resource integration, the disharmony between resources and brand construction, and the incompatibility between utilization and creative development. The specific path of the development of intangible cultural heritage tourism is to strengthen resource integration, pay attention to brand operation, and adhere to creative development.

A Review of Chinese and Foreign Intangible Cultural Heritage Tourism

The study of intangible cultural heritage tourism is of great significance to deeply explore the connotation of intangible cultural heritage and promote the in-depth integration of culture and tourism, and it is necessary to grasp the research trend of intangible cultural heritage tourism. This paper takes 3329 documents selected from the CNKI database and the “Web of ScienceTM Core Collection” database as data samples, and uses Citation Space (CiteSpace software) to conduct metrological analysis to summarize the research situation of Chinese and foreign intangible cultural heritage tourism. The results show that:(1) The research on foreign intangible cultural heritage tourism started 10 years earlier than that in China, and the volume of literature was higher than that in China, and it experienced three stages: the initial period, the rapid development stage, and the deepening and expansion period. Although domestic research started late, the growth rate is fast, from 2008 to 2016, the number of publications caught up with foreign countries, and then entered a period of steady development. (2) In general, domestic and foreign authors have not formed a close cooperation network, foreign authors have partial cooperation, but domestic has not formed a stable core author group. (3) Independent research between domestic research institutions, lack of cooperation, scattered and unbalanced research geographical distribution, lack of cross-regional cooperation, high-yield research institutions are Tarim University, Guilin University of Technology, Guangxi and Xinjiang are the leading places for research. There are many cross-border and cross-regional research institutions in foreign countries. China, the United States and Spain are the research centers, and Sichuan University, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Sun Yat-sen University are the backbone of research. (4) The research on intangible cultural heritage tourism in domestic hot spots mainly includes the development, protection, inheritance and development of intangible cultural heritage tourism, the research on the authenticity and temporal and spatial characteristics of intangible cultural heritage tourism, the research hotspots of foreign intangible cultural heritage tourism focus on the comprehensive attributes of intangible cultural heritage tourism, the impact of the authenticity, sustainable development, management, protection and development of intangible cultural heritage tourism, the development model and the experience summary of intangible cultural heritage tourism in destinations, and the research on the subject’s participation attitude, emotional perception and satisfaction. In short, there are differences in the research of intangible cultural heritage tourism between China and foreign countries, and domestic research should strengthen the collaboration between research institutions and authors, continuously broaden the research content, improve research methods, and make research more scientific and objective.
