Abstract This test was conducted in Isle of Wight County, Va., to evaluate the efficacy of 4 insecticides against a mixed population of small (first and second instars), medium (third and fourth instars), and large (fifth and sixth instars) CEW. Peanuts planted 2 May were treated by the cooperating producer on 15 Aug with Pydrin 2.4 EC for control of an early-season CEW infestation. Test insecticides were applied 13 Sep using a conventional 4-row sprayer, with 3 D2-23 disk-core hollow-cone nozzles/row, at 4.2 kg/cm2 and delivering a volume of 140.3 liters/ha. A randomized complete block design with 2 replicates was used. Individual plots were 4 rows (0.9-m spacing) by 66.2 m. Treatments were evaluated prior to application (0 DAT) and 1, 5, and 9 DAT by comparing the number of larvae/0.9 m of row using the standard ground cloth technique.
