Research Data Management from Hungarian Perspective

In science and education, research data is a valuable resource that can be utilized and repurposed for future use. Research data management is crucial for successful research, as it can generate reliable and advantageous results and facilitate accurate decision-making. The systematic review study followed the PRISMA Statement standards for reporting. Data regarding research data management from a Hungarian perspective was collected from SCOPUS, Web of Science, and EBSCO databases on January 5th, 2024. Forty-one records were identified from SCOPUS, Web of Science, and EBSCO databases. After screening, the remaining 13 articles were included in this study. The Hungarian authors discussed four distinct research data management activities. The activities included data sharing, data citation, data curation, and data storage. Several additional data-related concepts, such as data governance, data quality, data literacy, and research data service, were also examined in this study.

A háború társadalmi-gazdasági hatásainak vizsgálata a kárpátaljai kistérségi önkormányzatok vonatkozásában

Since 2022, the Russian-Ukrainian war has been a major focus of everyday life and scientific research. From a Hungarian perspective, it has had a significant impact on the national economy. However, it is also important to monitor the socio-economic effects on the indigenous Hungarians living in Transcarpathia, which have profoundly affected their existence. The scope for analysis is wide, but the present study combines an analysis of the impact of the war with an examination of the so-called "small regions" that have been created in recent years and the population living there. First, I will present a literature review on the socio-economic impacts of war in general. Then, using a sample of empirical research, I will analyze the situation of three small regions along the border of Transcarpathia in the period 2021-2023. As a result of the research, it can be concluded that the differences between the local government groupings are not only influenced by their economic strength, demographic framework, and other social factors, but also by the timing of the study - whether it was conducted before the war, immediately after its outbreak, or a year and a half later. It follows that there is a measure of war exhaustion in society, both economically and psychologically, affecting hope for the future. Therefore, it would be important to have the possibility of reconstruction as soon as possible after the degrading state of war.

Protection of the Environment in National Constitutional Law in Light of the Jurisdiction of the ECtHR – A Hungarian Perspective

The article gives a comparative analysis of the protection of the environment in the European human rights framework and at the constitutional level through the example of Hungary. The contribution analyses two judgments of the ECtHR in connection with the country and presents the Hungarian constitutional framework for the protection of the environment. The starting point of the analysis is the fact that the different levels of regulations – international and national – tend to focus on different aspects of protection, yet they significantly influence each other. The presentation of the two Hungarian cases is particularly topical in light of the fact that the Fundamental Law of Hungary, which introduced several unique provisions for the protection of the environment, was adopted between the finalisation of the two judgments.

As a result of the first free and democratic elections in Hungary, in May 1990, József Antall formed a government, whose foreign goal was the restoration of the sovereignty of Hungary and the support and representation of the Euro-Atlantic integration and of the Hungarians across the border. In the Hungarian-Czechoslovak bilateral relations, the new Hungarian government’s aim was to expand the political relations in both federal and republican levels. It was Hungary’s interest that serious legacies, such as the issue of the Bős-Nagymaros Dam system, should not hold back the general advance, therefore, a solution appropriate for both parties had to be found. The paper presents the Hungarian-Czechoslovak relations from the Hungarian perspective in the years 1990–1992.

Hungarian-Romanian transcultural relations during the Middle Ages and the reformation

AbstractIt was in the Latin-language historical literature of medieval and Renaissance Hungary that the noble ideology was first formulated which has determined the discourse on Hungarian national and literary consciousness up to the present day. These chronicles, however, contain a great deal of information not only about the Hungarians, but also about the peoples who lived alongside them. Thus, Romanians are also important figures in this Latin-language historical literature. In the first part of this study we will discuss the depiction of the Romanians in Anonymus' and Simon Kézai's Chronicles, the Illustrated Chronicle and Antonio Bonfini's monumental work. In the second part of the study I will describe the influence of the Hungarian Reformation literature of the 16th and 17th centuries on Romanian literature. From a Hungarian perspective, the Romanian Reformation is worth studying because it is a clear demonstration of Hungarian “cultural imperialism” in the 16th to 18th centuries, so much so that Hungarian culture has been unable to repeat cultural export on such a scale ever since. This means that between 1540 and 1750 there was no other language into which so many Hungarian-language ecclesiastical works (catechisms, psalms, hymns, postulates, agendas, piety works) were translated as Romanian. In other words, no other culture has been so powerfully influenced by a Hungarian impact as was Romanian culture during these two centuries.

The Arctic from a Hungarian Perspective

The history of Arctic exploration and the natural and social geographical characteristics of the region have been in the focus of Hungarian geographical research for 250 years. These studies are not exclusively geographical, but related to scientific fields (science, ethnography, and geopolitics), and include travel history. At the same time, no uniform work or knowledge base was created that would summarize domestic research in the Arctic region. The present study tries to fill this gap and summarize the role of Hungarian scientists in the research history of Arctic geography and related sciences and covers a geopolitical perspective. During the study, I applied a multidisciplinary approach, using domestic scientific works published in the fields of history, travel history, geography, ethnography, linguistics, as well as international relations, geopolitics, and international law. I concluded that the Arctic region has belonged to the field of interest of Hungarian scientists for centuries. I identified five major periods, during which different aspects and scientific fields played a central role (e.g., natural science, ethnography, geopolitics).

Hungary considered Czechoslovakia as an outstanding economic partner. The Antall government took steps so that the fate and future of the Slovakian Hungarians would be ensured in accordance with the European development standards. One of the key issues in this was the consistent Czechoslovak condemnation of the principle of collective guilt, the Beneš decrees. During the dialogues, certain elements of the common historical past returned several times.

Terminology Work in the Translation Project Process. The Hungarian Perspective

    The goal of this paper is to examine the place and role of terminology and terminology work in the translation project process and, based on literature and everyday practice, to examine the changes relevant to terminology work that have taken place in Hungary in recent years. The method of analysis is a comparative content analysis and descriptive method.    Terminology management, document management, and translation (project) management are all interrelated as are all forms of content management, and terminology has a key role in all of them. The quality of the source text is fundamental for the quality of the translation, therefore high-quality translation begins at content creation. Starting with drafting the documentation, the translation project process is a fourteen-step project process. Terminology work is present in most steps of the translation project process in some way, and even plays an important role in step zero, the creation of the source text. Terminology work, both in the translation project process and in the writing of documentation, has a number of regulated processes and steps, some of which are laid down in standards and are also discussed in the international literature on terminology, translation, and technical communication. In daily practice, translation agencies are increasingly commissioned to carry out documentation work in addition to translation, editing, and proofreading tasks. Nevertheless, it was found that in Hungary, in the operation of translation agencies and during the process of technical documentation, terminology workflows are not always coordinated, terminology databases are not always used, and terminology specialists are rarely employed.

Lessons Learned from an Operational Smart Grid Through the Example of a Local Government in Hungary

The steadily growing global demand for electricity, sustainability expectations, the global Covid epidemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war are also affecting the electricity supply chain. In our study we will focus on the smart grid, the modern smart electricity network of the near future, from a Hungarian perspective, with management approach. Hungary’s newest and most complex smart grid is analysed using the case study method. We investigated the actors of the smart grid and were interested in how the cooperation between the parties was, what learning processes they experienced, and what risks they saw and see now. Our results show that customers and contractors are mutually satisfied; in addition to the numerical benefits, each party also values the learning processes in different areas. The risks identified stem from modern technology, complexity, novel solutions and operational mechanisms, but geopolitical, global economic uncertainties and shortages also have an impact.

Economic Cyber-Espionage in the Visegrád Four Countries: a Hungarian Perspective

Abstract This article explores the regulatory framework of reference of economic cyber-espionage in Europe, with a particular focus on the V4 region (comprising Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic) and taking Hungary as a case study. Europe Union member states, including the V4 countries, are particularly exposed to economic cyber-espionage, because of the advanced know-how of the companies based therein. Under international law, there exists no uniform approach to the matter; also at the European Union level, the legal framework appears rather fragmented and the same holds true at the national level and within the V4 group, where each country has adopted its own relevant regulation. After a general overview of the relevant international and EU regulatory framework of reference, this article overviews the modus operandi of the V4 and examines its approach to economic cyber-espionage, with a special focus on Hungary as case study. As already remarked at the European and international levels, cybersecurity policies and regulations, including those regarding economic cyber-espionage operations, should be drafted in coordination among states; the V4 group can become a privileged platform of discussion to advance in the regulatory harmonisation of the issues at stake.

Why Did Hungarian Politics Become Authoritarian? A Review of Competing and Complementary Responses

Abstract This review essay introduces and compares six English-language scholarly monographs that analyze the emergence of illiberal rule in Hungary since 2010. Placing the converging arguments of these books in a comparative international context highlights the deep gulf between the official, self-congratulatory, and broadly accepted Hungarian perspective and the more critical academic interpretations published abroad.

Factors influencing senior learners’ language learning motivation. A Hungarian perspective

AbstractThe paper aims to investigate Hungarian senior language learners’ motivational profile with a special attention to factors influencing their motivational intensity. We focused on the significant features of Hungarian senior language learners’ motivational behaviour and conducted a survey with thirty senior Hungarian students learning English as a Foreign Language (FL). This instrument was constructed based on Gardner’s socio-educational model and Tremblay and Gardner’s model of second language (SL) motivation. We performed a series of statistical analyses on the data. The results of multiple regression analyses show that the most influential factors regarding motivational behaviour of older language learners in this context are attitude towards leaning the SL and goal specificity.

Hátsó ajtós elektronikus felügyelet Magyarországon

A technológia fejlődésével számos új jogintézmény látott napvilágot a büntető igazságszolgáltatás területén. Ilyen az elektronikus felügyelet is, amelyet magyar viszonylatban először a házi őrizettel összefüggésben szabályoztak, majd a reintegrációs őrizet formájában 2015-ben jelent meg a büntetés-végrehajtás területén. A szabályozás alapvetően megfelelő, és a gyakorlati tapasztalatok alapján hatékonynak is mondható, mégis vannak olyan kapcsolódó részkérdések, amelyek elméleti tisztázása meglátásom szerint szükséges. Ide sorolható a reintegrációs őrizet feltételeinek esetleges kiszélesítése, vagy a szabadságvesztés-büntetéshez, illetve a feltételes szabadságra bocsátáshoz való viszonyulása. Mindezek tisztázása abból adódóan is szükséges, hogy a technológia térhódítása feltételezhetően itt nem áll meg, így az elektronikus felügyelet alkalmazási körének jövőbeni kibővítése magyar viszonylatban is elképzelhető.

Green Financial Products in the European Banks' Portfolios – with a Hungarian Perspective

Re­cently, the fin­an­cial sec­tor has also be­come in­creas­ingly sus­tain­ab­il­ity-ori­ented. Na­tional cent­ral banks and na­tional credit in­sti­tu­tions are try­ing to fol­low the ever-ex­pand­ing in­ter­na­tional reg­u­lat­ory frame­work and to de­velop new fin­an­cial in­stru­ments to im­ple­ment ESG re­quire­ments. Our re­search looked at the green fin­ance port­fo­lios of the ten major European banks by the total as­sets in 2021 to as­sess the mar­ket for green fin­an­cial products. We have also ex­amined the green in­stru­ments of the ten major do­mestic banks by bal­ance sheet total, with the hy­po­thesis that the green product mar­ket for do­mestic banks can learn a num­ber of les­sons from the green product port­fo­lios of the major European banks.
