Stabilizing effects of higher-order quantum corrections on charged BTZ black hole thermodynamics

In this paper, we study the thermodynamic properties and stability of static charged BTZ black holes with the inclusion of higher-order quantum corrections. The corrections to the entropy, mass, and Helmholtz free energy are derived, revealing the intricate interplay between quantum effects and classical gravitational forces in the context of black hole thermodynamics. The study of the specific heat capacity shows that higher-order corrections stabilize the system by removing the instabilities present at lower orders. The analysis of the van der Waals-like isotherms demonstrates the continuous transition from a highly compressible to an almost incompressible regime as the volume is decreased, akin to the behavior of supercritical fluids. Notably, the isotherms do not exhibit any regions of negative compressibility, indicating the absence of instabilities. Furthermore, the convexity of the Helmholtz free energy as a function of volume confirms the stability of the charged BTZ black hole system. These findings provide valuable insights into the complex thermodynamic landscape of three-dimensional black holes and the role of quantum corrections in shaping their behavior.

UFO 2.0: the ‘Universal Feynman Output’ format

We present an update of the Universal FeynRules Output model format, commonly known as the UFO format, that is used by several automated matrix-element generators and high-energy physics software. We detail different features that have been proposed as extensions of the initial format during the last ten years, and collect them in the current second version of the model format that we coin the Universal Feynman Output format. Following the initial philosophy of the UFO, they consist of flexible and modular additions to address particle decays, custom propagators, form factors, the renormalisation group running of parameters and masses, and higher-order quantum corrections.

Quantum fluctuations and semiclassicality in an inflaton-driven evolution

A semiclassical description of quantum systems is applied to probe the dynamics of the cosmological model of an inflationary universe with quadratic inflaton potential, described in a quantum framework of geometrodynamics. The systematic analysis, focusing in particular on the inflationary and post-inflationary epochs, revealed several surprising and counterintuitive features: (i) during inflation the universe rapidly spreads out in volume which leads to significant relative variance by the end of inflation; (ii) despite that, the quantum evolution can still be described to high accuracy by semiclassical methods; (iii) moreover, in the post-inflationary epoch, as the order of included quantum corrections increases, the quantum trajectory approaches the classical one and the description involving second-order corrections only is actually the least accurate there. The consequence of the latter is that the effects of the quantum variances are washed out by the higher-order quantum corrections.

Reflected entropy in double holography

Recently, the reflected entropy is proposed in holographic approach to describe the entanglement of a bipartite quantum system in a mixed state, which is identified as the area of the reflected minimal surface inside the entanglement wedge. In this paper, we study the reflected entropy in the doubly holographic setup, which contains the degrees of freedom of quantum matter in the bulk. In this context, we propose a notion of quantum entanglement wedge cross-section, which may describe the reflected entropy with higher-order quantum corrections. We numerically compute the reflected entropy in pure AdS background and black hole background in four dimensions, respectively. In general, the reflected entropy contains the contribution from the geometry on the brane and the contribution from the CFT. We compute their proportion for different Newton constants and find that their behaviors are in agreement with the results based on the semi-classical gravity and the correlation of CFT coupled to the bath CFT.

Average minijet rapidity ratios in Mueller\u2013Navelet jets

We investigate different final state features in Mueller–Navelet jets events at hadron colliders. The focus lies on the average rapidity ratio between subsequent minijet emissions which has been investigated in previous works but now is modified to also incorporate the transverse momenta together with the rapidities of the emitted jets. We study the dependence of this observable on a lower transverse momentum veto which does affect the typical minijet multiplicity of the events under scrutiny. We find that this observable is stable when including higher order quantum corrections, also when collinear terms are resummed to all orders.

Second order chiral kinetic theory under gravity and antiparallel charge-energy flow

We derive the chiral kinetic theory under the presence of a gravitational Riemann curvature. It is well-known that in the chiral kinetic theory there inevitably appears a redundant ambiguous vector corresponding to the choice of the Lorentz frame. We reveal that on top of this conventional frame choosing vector, higher-order quantum correction to the chiral kinetic theory brings an additional degrees of freedom to specify the distribution function. Based on this framework, we derive new types of fermionic transport, that is, the charge current and energy-momentum tensor induced by the gravitational Riemann curvature. Such novel phenomena arise not only under genuine gravity but also in a (pseudo-)relativistic fluid, for which inhomogeneous vorticity or temperature are effectively represented by spacetime metric tensor. It is especially found that the charge and energy currents are antiparallelly induced by an inhomogeneous fluid vorticity (more generally, by the Ricci tensor R0i), as a consequence of the spin-curvature coupling. We also briefly discuss possible applications to Weyl/Dirac semimetals and heavy-ion collision experiments.

PV criticality of Achucarro–Ortiz black hole in the presence of higher-order quantum and GUP corrections

In this paper, we study the quantum-corrected and generalizedf uncertinty principle (GUP)-corrected thermodynamics of the [Formula: see text]-dimensional charged-rotating Achucarro–Ortiz (AO) black hole. The corrected parameters include temperature, entropy, and heat capacity which help to investigate the instability phases of the Achucarro–Ortiz black hole. We show that this black hole with small mass possesses unstable regions. However, we reveal that those instabilities can be removed by the GUP corrections. Finally, we also compute the maximum temperature that can be reached by the Achucarro–Ortiz black hole. We show that corrected temperatures by different methods we used are identical at the small mass limit, hence GUP correction at small mass limit is a quantum gravity correction. Interestingly, we show by graphical analysis that leading-order quantum-corrected temperature of the Achucarro–Ortiz black hole behaves similar to the GUP-corrected temperature of uncharged Achucarro–Ortiz black hole.

Global approach to top-quark flavor-changing interactions

We adopt a fully gauge-invariant effective-field-theory approach for parametrizing top-quark flavor-changing-neutral-current interactions. It allows for a global interpretation of experimental constraints (or measurements) and the systematic treatment of higher-order quantum corrections. We discuss some recent results obtained at next-to-leading-order accuracy in QCD and perform, at that order, a first global analysis of a subset of the available experimental limits in terms of effective operator coefficients. We encourage experimental collaborations to adopt this approach and extend the analysis by using all information they have prime access to.

A simple method to obtain the equilibrium solution of Wigner-Boltzmann equation with all higher order quantum corrections

A simple method has been introduced to furnish the equilibrium solution of the Wigner equation for all order of the quantum correction. This process builds up a recursion relation involving the coefficients of the different power of the velocity. The technique greatly relies upon the proper guess work of the trial solution and is different from the Wigner s original work. The solution is in a compact exponential form with a polynomial of velocity in the argument and returns the Wigner s form when expansion of the exponential factor is carried out. The study keeps its importance in studying various close as well as open quantum mechanical system. In addition, this solution may be employed to obtain the non equilibrium one particle wigner distribution in the relaxation-time approximation and under near-equilibrium conditions.

Quantum corrections to the spectroscopy of a BTZ black hole via periodicity

Quantum corrections to the area spectrum and the entropy spectrum of a BTZ black hole are calculated by equaling the motion period of an outgoing wave coming from the quantum corrections of the semiclassical action to the period of gravitational system with respect to the Euclidean time. We find that the area spectrum and the entropy spectrum are independent of the properties of particles. Furthermore, in the presence of higher-order quantum corrections, the area spectrum is found to be corrected by inverse area terms while the entropy spectrum is found to have a universal form, \(\varDelta S_{BH}=2\pi \). Both results show that the entropy spectrum is independent of not only the BTZ black hole parameters but also the higher-order quantum corrections, which implies that the entropy spectrum is more natural than the area spectrum in quantum gravity theory.

Magnetic dipole moment of neutral particles from quantum corrections at two-loop order

The tentative gamma-ray line in the Fermi data at ~135 GeV motivates a dark matter candidate that couples to photons through loops of charged messengers. It was recently shown that this model can explain the observed line, but achieving the correct phenomenology requires a fairly sizable coupling between the WIMP and the charged messengers. While strong coupling by itself is not a problem, it is natural to wonder whether the phenomenological success is not spoiled by higher order quantum corrections. In this work we compute the dominant two-loop contributions to the electromagnetic form-factors of the WIMP and show that over a large portion of the relevant parameter space these corrections are under control and the phenomenology is not adversely affected. We also discuss more generally the effects of these form-factors on signals in direct-detection experiments as well as on the production of the WIMP candidate in colliders. In particular, for low masses of the charged messengers the production rate at the LHC enjoys an enhancement from the threshold singularity associated with these charged states.

Efficient energy transfer in light-harvesting systems: Quantum-classical comparison, flux network, and robustness analysis

Following the calculation of optimal energy transfer in thermal environment in our first paper [J. L. Wu, F. Liu, Y. Shen, J. S. Cao, and R. J. Silbey, New J. Phys. 12, 105012 (2010)], full quantum dynamics and leading-order "classical" hopping kinetics are compared in the seven-site Fenna-Matthews-Olson (FMO) protein complex. The difference between these two dynamic descriptions is due to higher-order quantum corrections. Two thermal bath models, classical white noise (the Haken-Strobl-Reineker (HSR) model) and quantum Debye model, are considered. In the seven-site FMO model, we observe that higher-order corrections lead to negligible changes in the trapping time or in energy transfer efficiency around the optimal and physiological conditions (2% in the HSR model and 0.1% in the quantum Debye model for the initial site at BChl 1). However, using the concept of integrated flux, we can identify significant differences in branching probabilities of the energy transfer network between hopping kinetics and quantum dynamics (26% in the HSR model and 32% in the quantum Debye model for the initial site at BChl 1). This observation indicates that the quantum coherence can significantly change the distribution of energy transfer pathways in the flux network with the efficiency nearly the same. The quantum-classical comparison of the average trapping time with the removal of the bottleneck site, BChl 4, demonstrates the robustness of the efficient energy transfer by the mechanism of multi-site quantum coherence. To reconcile with the latest eight-site FMO model which is also investigated in the third paper [J. Moix, J. L. Wu, P. F. Huo, D. F. Coker, and J. S. Cao, J. Phys. Chem. Lett. 2, 3045 (2011)], the quantum-classical comparison with the flux network analysis is summarized in Appendix C. The eight-site FMO model yields similar trapping time and network structure as the seven-site FMO model but leads to a more disperse distribution of energy transfer pathways.

COHERENT STATE FUNCTIONAL INTEGRAL IN LOOP QUANTUM COSMOLOGY: ALTERNATIVE DYNAMICS

Coherent state functional integral for the minisuperspace model of loop quantum cosmology is studied. By the well-established canonical theory, the transition amplitude in the path integral representation of loop quantum cosmology with alternative dynamics can be formulated through group averaging. The effective action and Hamiltonian with higher-order quantum corrections are thus obtained. It turns out that for a nonsymmetric Hamiltonian constraint operator, the Moyal (star)-product emerges naturally in the effective Hamiltonian. For the corresponding symmetric Hamiltonian operator, the resulted effective theory implies a possible quantum cosmological effect in large scale limit in the alternative dynamical scenario, which coincides with the result in canonical approach. Moreover, the first-order modified Friedmann equation still contains the particular information of alternative dynamics and hence admits the possible phenomenological distinction between the different proposals of quantum dynamics.

Coherent state functional integrals for the minisuperspace models of quantum cosmology are studied. By the well-established canonical theories, the transition amplitudes in the path-integral representations of Wheeler-DeWitt quantum cosmology and loop quantum cosmology can be formulated through group averaging. The effective action and Hamiltonian with higher-order quantum corrections are thus obtained in both models. It turns out that for a non-symmetric Hamiltonian constraint operator, the Moyal (star)-product emerges naturally in the effective Hamiltonian. This reveals the intrinsic relation among coherent state functional integral, effective theory and star-product. Moreover, both the resulted effective theories imply a possible quantum cosmological effect in large scale limit.

There are no quantum corrections to the Hawking temperature via tunneling from a fixed background

It has recently, and repeatedly, been claimed that higher-order quantum corrections to the Hawking temperature can be calculated in a framework where a free particle tunnels from the event horizon of a fixed black hole background. We highlight a few important issues with these claims to finally conclude that no such higher-order corrections exist. Rather, these illusory corrections stem from a misleading definition of the energy.

Back reaction, emission spectrum and entropy spectroscopy

Recently, an interesting work, which reformulates the tunneling framework to directly produce the Hawking emission spectrum and entropy spectroscopy in the tunneling picture, has been received a broad attention. However, during the emission process, most related observations have not incorporated the effects of back reaction on the background spacetime, whose derivations are therefore not the desiring results for the real physical process. With this point as a central motivation, in this paper we suitably adapt the \emph{reformulated} tunneling framework so that it can well accommodate the effects of back reaction to produce the Hawking emission spectrum and entropy spectroscopy. Consequently, we interestingly find that, when back reaction is considered, the Parikh-Wilczek's outstanding observations that, an isolated radiating black hole has an unitary-evolving emission spectrum that is \emph{not} precisely thermal, but is related to the change of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, can also be reproduced in the reformulated tunneling framework, meanwhile the entropy spectrum has the same form as that without inclusion of back reaction, which demonstrates the entropy quantum is \emph{independent} of the effects of back reaction. As our final analysis, we concentrate on the issues of the black hole information, but \emph{unfortunately} find that, even including the effects of back reaction and higher-order quantum corrections, such tunneling formalism can still not provide a mechanism for preserving the black hole information.

Quantum corrections and black hole spectroscopy

In the work \cite{BRM,RBE}, black hole spectroscopy has been successfully reproduced in the tunneling picture. As a result, the derived entropy spectrum of black hole in different gravity (including Einstein's gravity, Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity and Ho\v{r}ava-Lifshitz gravity) are all evenly spaced, sharing the same forms as $S_n=n$, where physical process is only confined in the semiclassical framework. However, the real physical picture should go beyond the semiclassical approximation. In this case, the physical quantities would undergo higher-order quantum corrections, whose effect on different gravity shares in different forms. Motivated by these facts, in this paper we aim to observe how quantum corrections affect black hole spectroscopy in different gravity. The result shows that, in the presence of higher-order quantum corrections, black hole spectroscopy in different gravity still shares the same form as $S_n=n$, further confirming the entropy quantum is universal in the sense that it is not only independent of black hole parameters, but also independent of higher-order quantum corrections. This is a desiring result for the forthcoming quantum gravity theory.

Corrections to Hawking-like radiation for a Friedmann–Robertson–Walker universe

Recently, a Hamilton-Jacobi method beyond semiclassical approximation in black hole physics was developed by \emph{Banerjee} and \emph{Majhi}\cite{beyond0}. In this paper, we generalize their analysis of black holes to the case of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. It is shown that all the higher order quantum corrections in the single particle action are proportional to the usual semiclassical contribution. The corrections to the Hawking-like temperature and entropy of apparent horizon for FRW universe are also obtained. In the corrected entropy, the area law involves logarithmic area correction together with the standard inverse power of area term.

Hawking Radiation of Apparent Horizon in a FRW Universe as Tunneling Beyond Semiclassical Approximation

An analysis of Hawking radiation about apparent horizon in a FRW universe is performed by using the method developed in the paper (Banerjee, Majhi in JHEP 06:095 2008), in which the Hawking radiation of a black hole is treated as the quantum tunneling by Hamilton-Jacobi method beyond semiclassical approximation and then all the higher order quantum corrections can be given out. In our analysis, the Kodama vector instead of the Killing vector to define the energy of the particle plays a key role. We present our analysis under the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker like coordinate system and the much-like to Painleve coordinate system respectively. The result show that the formulized procedure can be extended to fully analyse the Hawking radiation of a dynamical system.
