For the past two decades the Veterans Administration has provided training in its hospitals in a wide range of health service disciplines. This accomplishment, while considerable in terms of numbers trained annually, has not been commensurate with the potentialities of the VA system for helping to meet the national health manpower crisis. Fortified by recent legislation encouraging the agency to conduct education and training of health manpower, the VA is planning a marked expansion of existent training and the development of new programs adapted to the rapidly changing demands of American medicine.
