The Influencing Factors Study of the Electronic Information Man-ufacturing Industry export-added value In China

Based on the WIOD input-output database, the KPWW method is used to estimate the export-added value of China’s electronic information manufacturing. Besides, the SDA structural decomposition method is used to research the influencing factors of the export-added value of the sector. The results show that the growth rate of the export-added value of the sector is faster than other sample countries, but it’s still in the low end of the global value chain; The supporting from global electronic information manufacturing industry for China is far than Chinese pulling for the global industry. It also found the main factors affecting the export added value in the industry. At present, the leading factor affecting the growth of export added value in China’s electronic information manufacturing industry has been changed from the correlation degree of forward industry to the source scale of added value. This article will study export trade added value of this industry in the global value chain perspective, which helps to develop the industry strategy, to promote the industry to the global high-end chain of value chain.

Information Technology literacy and information utilization in Nigerian Universities: A study and undergraduate students in University of Calaba, Calabar, Nigeria

Information technology (IT) is widely used in variety of ways to improve the quality of learning in Nigerian universities. One significant area of application of IT is the provision of basic access to and utilization of global electronic information resources. The aim of this study is to investigate the extent of IT literacy among undergraduate students in University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria. Structured questionnaire was designed and used for data collection, with undergraduate students in University of Calabar, Nigeria as respondents. The findings of the study have revealed extensive information technology literacy, but low level of IT experience and utilization of electronic information sources among undergraduate students in the University of Calabar, Nigeria. According to the survey results, poor state of public power supply and financial cost are the major impediments against effective information technology literacy among undergraduate students in University of Calabar, Nigeria. Appropriate recommendations based on the findings of the study are made.

Low earth orbit satellite (LEOsat) for information exchange and retrieval in remote locations in Ghana

A low earth orbit satellite (LEOsat) for global electronic information exchanges between Accra (National Capital) and remote locations in Wa (Upper West Region) and Manga (Upper East Region) was setup for integrated rural development in Ghana. The functions of the communication networks were to facilitate disaster management, humanitarian relief, distance education and training, health care delivery, governance; and to over-come geographic isolation and reliance on obsolete communication systems. The POSAT satellite was equipp-ed with facility for store-and-forward communication by radio between participating ground stations in Africa and Europe. A high-gain directional antenna scanned the earth's surface at frequency, power and dwell time controlled to correct Doppler effect. The satellite positioned at 100 minute polar orbit was visible at least 4 times per day for an average of 13 minutes for information exchange of up to 50 kb to be up-loaded or 100 kb to be down-loaded per pass. On board were computers for digital communication systems based on packet radio protocols employing 9.6 kbps uplink and 38.4 kbps downlink data rates; and trans-receivers with two uplink frequency channels of 148.515 and 148.260 MHz and downlink frequency of 429.985 MHz. The Internet access of the radio-based trans-receiver system provided unlimited source of information of worldwide coverage as an orbiting mailbox. Where Does It Happen? The Location of the Production and Consumption of Web Information

Marketing and urban geography notions, such as “service areas,” “catchment areas,” “influence areas,” “central place hierarchy,” and the like, explaining the relationship of the location of customers to stores and service providers, disappeared with the instantaneous, distance-free access to electronic information from anywhere to anywhere. In principle, the untethering from location should have been true not only for information consumption, but also for information production, which is, indeed, the case with e-mail, the production of information on a personal level. However, it is questionable whether global electronic information in the form of Web sites of various kinds, notably commercial Web sites, is also produced in a completely location-independen t pattern. Furthermore, if the production of commercial electronic information is more concentrated, the question arises whether there is any relationship between the location factors of the production of Web information, on the one hand, and the type or content of information produced in given centers of information production, on the other. And, to put supply back in line with demand, one may also ask whether a local specialization in information production also brings about a dominance in information consumption in that place.

Libraries and digital communication: Collision or convergence?

Michael Gorman's fear of a new Dark Age of Electronic Tyranny is overstated, and the response of libraries to the technological revolution has not been as timid as Harris and Hannah suggest. Both commentators are criticized for engaging in a rather sterile debate. The real issues revolve around the convergence of paradigm-level changes in science, management, and global electronic information systems.
