Abstract

Information technology (IT) is widely used in variety of ways to improve the quality of learning in Nigerian universities. One significant area of application of IT is the provision of basic access to and utilization of global electronic information resources. The aim of this study is to investigate the extent of IT literacy among undergraduate students in University of Calabar, Calabar, Nigeria. Structured questionnaire was designed and used for data collection, with undergraduate students in University of Calabar, Nigeria as respondents. The findings of the study have revealed extensive information technology literacy, but low level of IT experience and utilization of electronic information sources among undergraduate students in the University of Calabar, Nigeria. According to the survey results, poor state of public power supply and financial cost are the major impediments against effective information technology literacy among undergraduate students in University of Calabar, Nigeria. Appropriate recommendations based on the findings of the study are made.
