Sweetcorn, Corn Earworm Control, 1982:

Abstract 'Funks G80' was planted May 3 at the University of Georgia Experiment Station, Oconee Co. The soil type was Appling coarse sandy loam. A randomized complete block experimental design was used with 2 row plots × 20-ft long × 38-inch row width × 2-ft alleys. There were 5 replicates. Plants were treated with a full cone spray using an air pressure sprayer at 30 psi in a final volume of 50 gal/acre directed on the plant ears. Plots were sprayed 8 times; on Jun 18, 21, 23, 25, 28, 30, Jul 2 and 5. All ears in the center 18 ft of row were examined on Jul 7 for the presence of earworm larvae or damage.

Soil Treatment with Chlorpyrifos for Control of First Instar Grape Root Borers, 1981

Abstract Soil around 14-18-yr-old concord grape vines was treated with a full cone spray using 3.8 liter per vine. A swath 0.75 m wide x 1 .0 m long was sprayed on each side of a vine. Plots were 5 consecutive vines located at random within a 2.5 ha vineyard (Gainesville, GA) and a 0.5 ha vineyard (BlairsviIle, GA). Soil within the treated areas was scraped 7 cm deep 7 and 14 days after treatment for bioassay of efficacy to first instar grape root borers. Bioassays used vials (1 cm dia x 4 cm) with young grape roots at the bottom. Treated soil was added to fill 2 cm of the vial. Five freshly hatched grape root borer larvae were placed on the soil surface in each vial. Seven days later soil and roots were removed, examined, and the number dead/iive larvae determined. Each treatment was replicated 3-8 times.

Abstract Seed planted August 24, 1977, University of Georgia Experimental Station, Oconee Co. Soil type was Appling sandy loam. Randomized complete block experimental design with 2 row plots, 20- ft long x 38-inch row width x 2-ft alleys, 5 replicates. Plants treated with a full cone spray in a final volume of 20 gal/acre directed into the plant whorl. Sprayed 4 times on September 5, 12 and 21 and October 5. Plants were indexed for fall armyworm damage in the 8-leaf stage on a scale of 1-4: 1 - no bud feeding damage; none to slight leaf feeding damage; 2 - slight to moderate bud feeding damage; slight to moderate leaf feeding damage; 3 - moderate to heavy bud feeding damage; moderate to heavy leaf feeding damage; 4 - severe bud and leaf feeding damage; plants reproductive capacity destroyed. Yield (dry matter) taken by hand on November 17, 1977. First treatment was applied when 30% of the plants had feeding damage by first instar larvae. Other applications were made when fresh egg masses were present on 10% or more of the plants.

Yield (dry matter) taken by hand on November 18, 1977. First treatment was applied when 30% of the plants had feeding damage by first instar larvae. Other applications were made when fresh egg masses were present on 10% or more of the plants.
