Graphene oxide (GO) was produced by using electrochemical exfoliation of pencil core (6B, 8 mm diameter). Ammonium sulphate (0.1 M) was used as an electrolyte solution. The two electrodes were placed in parallel at a distance of 5 cm. while the supply voltage was fixed at 8 V DC for 10 min. A floating layer of graphene on top of the bath was collected for cleaning process. A graphene oxide (GO) product was characterized by using Raman spectroscopy, UV–vis spectroscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX). ZnO powder synthesized by hydrothermal process was mixed with graphene oxide according to different weight percentage concentrations. ZnO:GO composite paste was coating on FTO glass substrate by the drop casting method. The SEM result indicates that the graphene oxide was embedded around ZnO nano spheres.
