Objectives In this study, we measured the social capital level of C university students, recognized the lack of social capital for college students, and suggested directions for efforts to accumulate social capital. Methods For this purpose, by conducting a survey (question 17 questions) to measure social capital level for stu-dents at C university in the province, we grasped the actual condition of social capital through the analysis accord-ing to grade, gender, and major. Interviews were conducted to analyze what C university students think is in-sufficient social capital and what they should strive to accumulate social capital, and based on this, directions for C university students to make efforts to form social capital were presented. Results Through a survey and interview survey of 112 students from C university located in the province, based on the results and contents of analyzing social capital level, insufficient social capital, and the points to work on social capital accumulation, the direction for the social capital formation that C university students think was presented. Conclusions In order to accumulate social capital of college students, it is necessary to raise students' awareness of social capital, to supplement social capital that they think is insufficient, and to raise the level of social capital by constant efforts to accumulate social capital. Since social capital accumulation is formed in social relations, ed-ucation for improving the social relations capacity that college students should have as members of society is needed.

This study compares after-school children's education in Korea and Japan. The comparison is the current status, service, and practice case of after-school child education. The purpose of the study is to find implications for after-school child education in Korea through comparison between Korea and Japan, not only for the safety of children, but also for the well-being and quality of life of the family surrounding children. As for the research method, afterschool child education in the two countries was explored through a comparative research method between countries. As a result of the study, Korea had problems with service quality and stigma. Japan has a long history of after-school education, so it is now providing services to children with disabilities and multicultural children. In addition, Japan was an education that put emphasis on social relationship formation. The significance of this paper is that it proposed after-school education services necessary for Korea through comparison of afterschool children's education and presented a future vision for after-school children's education.

Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Untuk Meningkatkan Kualitas Hidup

This Thematic Real Work Lecture activity focuses on community empowerment to improve the quality of life for children at the Aisha Jena Orphanage Foundation in the hope of increasing knowledge and improving the quality of life for children. This Thematic Real Work Lecture activity aims to provide socialization and education about mental health and the impact of bullying. Parents certainly have an important role in building children's development, therefore the target in this Thematic Real Work Lecture activity is the creation of success in fostering reasoning power, a sense of responsibility, empathy, and adding direct learning experiences, and applying them in everyday life in society. The method in this Thematic Real Work Lecture activity is in the form of socialization about understanding reasoning power, a sense of responsibility and providing direct education, because not all children in the orphanage know material about mental health and the impact of bullying in order to prevent bullying cases from increasing.

Examining the Effect of Contactless Intergenerational Befriending Intervention on Social Isolation Among Older Adults and Students' Attitude Toward Companionship: Content Analysis.

Intergenerational friendship, a mechanism of social support, is an effective intervention to reduce the increasing risk of social isolation (SI) and develop companionship in the older adult population. The COVID-19 pandemic provided a unique opportunity to examine the psychosocial intervention of befriending via technology use as a primary form of contactless socialization. The study aims to explore the effectiveness of the befriending intervention through a contactless, intergenerational service-learning project on older adult emotions, especially boredom and loneliness as the key attributes of SI, and on students' attitude toward companionship. During the months of January to April 2022 , undergraduate students enrolled in a health administration course with a special focus on culture were asked to be involved in a contactless, intergenerational service-learning project (n=46). In this study, contactless intervention meant communication using the telephone and apps such as FaceTime and Zoom. Students were paired with older adults to have at least a 30-minute weekly conversation, for 8 weeks, via telephone or an internet-based app such as FaceTime. Students were asked to write a half-page diary after each interaction and a 1-page reflection at the end of the fourth week and at the end of the service-learning project. At the completion of the project, the researchers also surveyed the older adults to assess the impact of the project using a 5-item open-ended questionnaire. Following a heuristic approach and content analysis, student artifacts (110,970 words; 118-page, single-spaced Microsoft Word document) and the older adult surveys were analyzed using MAXQDA, (VERBI GmbH). Qualitative data were extracted to assess the impact of service learning on SI by measuring the attributes of boredom and loneliness among 46 older adults. Students' attitudes toward companionship were also assessed using data from their diaries and reflections. Overall, three major constructs were identified: (1) meaningful engagement, defined as feeling safe, having increased confidence, and having reduced boredom; (2) internal motivation to participate in the weekly interaction, defined as discussion about daily life experience, level of happiness, and ability to exert personal control over the situation; and (3) intergenerational befriending, defined as perceived benefits from the friendly nature of the interaction, ability to comfortably connect with students, and positive feeling and attitude toward the student. The contactless, intergenerational befriending intervention reduced boredom and loneliness among older adults and enhanced positive attitude and confidence among university students. Students helped older adults to develop digital skills for the use of apps and social media. Older adults showed interest in the intervention and shared their daily life experiences with the students, which helped to reduce the gap between generations. Findings indicate the effectiveness of an intergenerational service-learning intervention on SI reduction and increased positive attitude among college students.

Historical Layers of Refugee Reception in Border Areas of Italy: Crossroads of Transit and Temporalities of (Im)mobility

In border areas, time and space are constantly suspended from the usual rules along a liminal pathway transforming status and identity. In order to understand how different regimes of mobility and reception influence the experience of time and the subjective actions of both asylum seekers arriving via the so-called Balkan route and Ukrainian refugees fleeing from the war, the paper puts forward an analysis of the multiple scales of migration and reception policies as historically situated practices. How and to what extent has the increasing role of the humanitarian regime contributed to improving or worsening the lives of asylum seekers in borderland places where the memory of wars, civil conflicts, and experiences of refoulement is very much alive? Building on a multilocal ethnography of the temporalities of migrants’ reception, the paper aims at disentangling the historical layers of hospitality in the northeastern Italian border areas of Trieste and Bolzano and the intersecting forms of (im)mobility at play. By addressing “reception” as an entanglement of spatial and temporal practices carried out by migrants, institutional, and humanitarian actors, we discuss not only how time reduces the existence of asylum seekers and Ukrainian refugees to an empty and meaningless human condition by exerting control over the subjective experiences, but also how the migrants’ experience of waiting translates into an active state of being with the creative potential to trigger new forms of sociality, solidarity, and senses of belonging.

Social Culture Formation and Development of Village-Owned Enterprises as a Hybrid Organization in Indonesia: A Case Study in East Java

This study aimed to describe the development of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUM Desa) in Indonesia as hybrid organizations. A hybrid organization is formed with different institutions and becomes a new institution. In general, the new institution was created with a double mission. One remains for business-oriented, the other for social purposes. The study followed the guidelines for Village-Owned Enterprises designed uniformly to be implemented by all villages. This study uses studies in East Java to photograph Village-Owned Enterprises in Indonesia. Based on this case study in East Java, Village-Owned Enterprises was found to grow differently following the lines of the socio-cultural area. The results of this study found two important things. First, several Village-Owned Enterprises were successfully formed and then developed into Village-Owned Enterprises with the Advanced category; some villages failed to form Village-Owned Enterprises; some of them succeeded in establishing Village-Owned Enterprises, but the development was not good enough, so they were still the Beginner category. Second, even though it is based on formal institutions that are uniform and apply nationally, the process of forming and developing Village-owned Enterprises in East Java Province, according to initial expectations, turns out to follow the sociocultural divide. Regions with Mataraman and Arek socio-culture generally produce more Village-Owned Enterprises in the Advanced category. Meanwhile, the area with the Pandalungan socio-culture is relatively stagnant because it only produces a few Village-Owned Enterprises in the Advanced category. In conclusion, Village-Owned Enterprises grow differently in different socio-cultural areas. Socio-culture is a supporting factor in the formation and development of Village-Owned Enterprises.

E3 Ubiquitin Ligase Uhrf2 Knockout Reveals a Critical Role in Social Behavior and Synaptic Plasticity in the Hippocampus.

The hippocampal formation, particularly the CA2 subregion, is critical for social memory formation and memory processing, relying on synaptic plasticity-a fundamental mechanism by which synapses strengthen. Given the role of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) in various nervous system processes, including learning and memory, we were particularly interested in exploring the involvement of RING-type ubiquitin E3 ligases, such as UHRF2 (NIRF), in social behavior and synaptic plasticity. Our results revealed altered social behavior in mice with systemic Uhrf2 knockout, including changes in nest building, tube dominance, and the three-chamber social novelty test. In Uhrf2 knockout mice, the entorhinal cortex-CA2 circuit showed significant reductions in synaptic plasticity during paired-pulse facilitation and long-term potentiation, while the inability to evoke synaptic plasticity in the Schaffer-collateral CA2 synapses remained unaffected. These changes in synaptic plasticity correlated with significant changes in gene expression including genes related to vesicle trafficking and transcriptional regulation. The effects of Uhrf2 knockout on synaptic plasticity and the observed gene expression changes highlight UHRF2 as a regulator of learning and memory processes at both the cellular and systemic levels. Targeting E3 ubiquitin ligases, such as UHRF2, may hold therapeutic potential for memory-related disorders, warranting further investigation.

The World We Have Lost: Reflections on Varieties of Masculinity at Work

AbstractThe focus on gender in and around the process of deindustrialisation is a very welcome development. The academic attention paid to the decline of male dominated places of work in part can be seen as a continuation of industrial/work sociology's longstanding interest in working-class industrial workers. It may seem counterintuitive to suggest that, notwithstanding a critical gendered account of deindustrialization that pays more attention to women, there remains a need to understand more fully the subtle processes of male gender construction within industrial work. Arguably what has not been fully accounted for are the subtle, complex, and varied ways in which younger males became fully fledged men through a shopfloor ritual, social and cultural transmission, and rites of passage. The article makes two main points. Firstly, it reflects on the notion of care in work and the idea of a moral order of the workplace wherein the workplace acted as an extended caring family. I want to think about this social form through my own research as well as that of other scholars in a variety of industrial workplaces, and also by drawing on workplace autobiography. Secondly, the piece highlights the continued attraction of an older one-dimensional image of male industrial work. In studying this aspect of workplace masculinity, we might be better placed to think about the nature of gendered loss associated with mass industrial closure over time and how in-work socialization patterns have been dramatically transformed. In the process this account will add great depth to our understanding of deindustrialization and industrial culture more generally.

Social capital and the effectiveness of land use policies: Evidence from rural China

This paper investigates how three forms of social capital, namely, social norms, social network and trust, influences the effectiveness of land use policies. Both long- and short-term policy outcomes are considered in the proposed analytical framework. Benefiting from a comprehensive household survey dataset covering 17 provinces in China, we adopt multiple measurements for each social capital form and policy outcome in our empirical investigation. We use a specific rural land use policy (i.e. reform to confirm, register and certify rural land rights) as a natural experiment to estimate the effect of social capital. By revealing the complex relationships amongst various forms of social capital and a wide range of policy outcome measurements, our empirical findings confirm the validity, reliability and tractability of the proposed analytical framework. Policy implications are also derived regarding how to utilise social capital to improve the effectiveness of land use policies.

Community service activities in the form of socialization and practice regarding IoT-based Real-Time Smart Trash Monitoring System simulations have the aim of providing knowledge and information to students at SMAN 1 Kepahiang Regency so that they gain knowledge about current technological advances. The subjects of this service activity were students at SMAN 1 Kepahiang Regency. The socialization process is carried out by providing information and direct practice in assembling IoT-based Real-Time Smart Trash Monitoring simulation components. Where the IoT-based Real-Time Smart Trash Monitoring System simulation is an example of the implementation of artificial intelligence. In practice, the system will use a microcontroller for data processing. Then the result of this community service activity is that students at SMAN 1 Kepahiang Regency will gain knowledge about current technological advances. Apart from that, students at SMAN 1 Kepahiang Regency are also expected to be able to develop more creative and innovative ideas related to technological developments. that exists. The conclusion obtained from carrying out community service activities, especially students at SMAN 1 Kepahiang Regency, is in the form of gaining knowledge and information regarding the Real-Time IoT Based Smart Trash Monitoring System.

Strategi Humas Politeknik Kesehatan Palu Dalam Menarik Calon Mahasiswa Baru

The aim of this research is to examine the Public Relations (PR) strategies within the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Health Polytechnic (Poltekkes) Palu in attracting prospective new students. The study employs Ronald D. Smith's Strategic Planning for Public Relations, which categorizes its steps into four phases: formative research, strategy, tactics, and evaluative research. The research methodology used is a qualitative approach with a case study. Data is collected through observation and interviews with key informants from the Public Relations Department of Poltekkes Palu and relevant stakeholders. The findings from the formative research phase indicate that Poltekkes Palu's PR has identified several conventional strategies that are not effective in attracting new students, such as brochures, banners, and traditional forms of socialization. In the strategy phase, Poltekkes Palu plans to create podcasts to build brand awareness and market through social media as part of a broader marketing tactic. Social media is deemed a highly relevant channel, especially for reaching high school students. During the evaluation of the previous academic year, the Public Relations Department of Poltekkes Palu recognized valuable insights into the shortcomings of their strategies for student recruitment. The evaluation results show that the use of social media and digital marketing was not fully implemented in the previous academic year. Therefore, evaluative research serves as the foundation for identifying areas of improvement and refinement.

Principles of social housing development in Spain

The issue of social housing has always been a vital concern for most countries, given its crucial role in ensuring a dignified life for citizens. Each country has a unique history and approaches to the development of social housing, reflecting distinct social, economic, and cultural requirements. Spain's practice in this area, developed over a long period, is particularly appealing and can be beneficial for Ukraine, which seeks to improve its own standards of social housing construction. This article examines the architectural features of social housing formation in Spain, based on the analysis of both historical and contemporary projects. Successful examples such as the Caño Roto housing complex, a symbol of modernism and high social experience, and the contemporary housing quarter Vivazz in Asturias, emphasizing their contribution to the transformation of the urban environment and creation of comfortable spaces for different population segments, are highlighted. Special attention is given to architectural innovations, energy efficiency, and the use of public spaces as centers of social interaction. The conclusions emphasize the importance of adapting social housing to changes in requirements and the social environment, highlighting its impact on improving the quality of life and forming communities.

#picturesofchange: Physical self-representations in social media as a sign of change in sports- and movement culture

The mediatization of communicative action is a process that centrally moderates social change. Changes in communication (e.g., through new kinds of media) thus have momentous consequences for social forms and processes. As essential cultural signs, social bodies, their medial representation, and areas of society in which bodies play a role are interrelated with changes in communication. Currently, physical self-representations in digital media play a key role and hold strong possibilities of influence on the culture of sports and movement. The aim of this study was to identify the effects of visual self-representations in social media on this culture. Following an integrative review methodology, we systematically organised the current state of empirical evidence and identified the implications that digital self-representations in social media (esp., Instagram, Facebook) have on sports and movement culture and therefore possibly on physical education (PE). Six electronic databases, reference lists, and citations of full-text articles were searched for English and German language peer-reviewed articles. The search string combined different terms relating to social media and sports culture. Two independent reviewers screened all identified studies for eligibility and assessed the methodological quality of the included studies. The results point to direct changes in some sports and movement cultures such as the prosumtion (consumption and production) of videos in skateboarding or the perpetuation of body ideals in the fitness culture. Other sports and movement cultures are changed indirectly via different new use cases for the athletes, as they can use social media to either build communities or gain visibility. As the practice of prosuming bodily self-representations is a growing part of the lifeworld of adolescents, such practices could become content within PE. Therewith, students could acquire competencies that allow them to intellectually relate to these practices, which could help them in understanding, changing or transcending their existing realities.

Social behaviour changes via mindfulness practices in early childhood

This study aims to investigate the effects of mindfulness practices on preschool children’s social behavioural development. The research was carried out with a total of 30 children, 13 of them in the experimental group and 17 in the control group, from the five-six age groups attending preschool education in two public schools in the 2021–2022 academic years. The purposive sampling method was preferred in determining the sample, and the design of the study was the quasi-experimental mixed method. In the study, Mindfulness Practice Toolkit (MPT), which was developed by the researcher, was used in the forms of observation, interview and anecdote as data collection tools during the practice processes. Besides, Pre-school Social Behaviour Scale-Teacher Form (PSBS-TF) was also utilized to examine the social behaviour developments of the participant children. The overall results of the investigation show an increase in positive social behaviours and a decrease in behaviours containing physical aggression and depressive emotion of participant children. Additionally, it was observed that children who participated in the mindfulness practice provided (/responded to) responses that include skills like identifying self-thoughts and feelings, controlling and accepting, determining behaviours upon the emotional state and establishing empathy and controlling negative behaviours.

Embodied sociotechnical imaginaries: how donor-conceived people imagine identity, family and reprodigital futures beyond regulation.

Sociological scholarship has begun to explore imaginaries of family and reproduction, yet less work has focused on the emerging social form of the donor family. In this article, we consider the embodied sociotechnical imaginaries of donor-conceived people, exploring their reflections, judgements, hopes, and predictions regarding donor conception. Combining reflexive thematic analysis of free-text survey responses from sperm donor-conceived (n = 90) and egg donor-conceived (n = 1) and data from semi-structured interviews with sperm donor-conceived people (n = 28), conceived in both clinical and non-clinical contexts in Australia, we analyse donor-conceived people's imaginings of family, identity, and the practice of donor conception in the digital age. Our analysis centres the donor-conceived body that imagines, and in doing so, highlights the entanglements of reproductive and digital technologies, and the humans and institutions that drive their uptake. We argue that leveraging the imaginative and political capacities of donor-conceived people is a productive approach that illuminates possible (re)directions of the assisted reproduction industry as well as illustrating potential policy futures.

Sosialisasi Gemar Makan Ikan Sebagai Upaya Menanggulangi Stunting di Desa Sebayan

Socialization was carried out in Sebayan Village, which aimed to increase the love for eating fish in an effort to overcome stunting. Fish consumption is still lacking in the community because of the lack of public knowledge regarding the nutrients contained in fish. This socialization activity took place in November 2023 in Sebayan Village. The approach used in this activity was door-to-door. The number of respondents who participated in this community service activity was 65, with 53 female and 12 male respondents. This form of socialization has been approved by village government organizations. The results of this study provide information on fish nutrition in the community. In addition, this activity can also be an effort to help reduce the incidence of stunting. This activity has previously been given a briefing and strengthening knowledge on the love of eating fish. Another aspect of this activity was that it was smooth.

An Evidence-Based Blueprint for Architecting Social Capital in Organizations

The well-established concept of social capital in community studies is gaining prominence in management studies over the last decade due to evolving workplace and workforce. The paper presents a comprehensive and evidence-based model from past literature on how social capital is architected in organizations. We have adapted the seminal framework suggested by Murphy and DeNisi (2008) to capture distal, proximal, formation, and output factors. Also, our paper unveils areas of further investigation such as intervening, distortion, and psychological factors. We propose to move conversations among academicians and practitioners beyond just benefits of social capital to how one can intentionally facilitate social capital formation at the workplace for competitive advantage. Future researchers can continue to test and adjust the open model.

The influence of social context and activity on the emotional well-being of forest visitors: A field study

The influence of contact with nature on emotional well-being is well-documented. Yet less is known about how social context and engaging in activities in nature settings affect emotional well-being. This field study aimed to address these issues. A questionnaire was distributed among visitors to six forests in Israel (N = 559). The questionnaire included demographic variables, type of activity (relaxing, hiking, or sport), the social configuration of visitor groups, group size, presence of children, and emotional well-being variables (positive affect, negative affect, vitality, and happiness). The results showed that engaging exclusively in relaxing activities is associated with a lower level of positive affect than engaging in all three types of activities (relaxing, hiking and sport) or than engaging in a combination of hiking and sport. The results also showed that being alone in the forest is associated with lower levels of happiness and vitality than being in the company of others. Being with children in the forest was associated with lower levels of positive affect than being there without children. Nevertheless, as the number of adults in the group with children increased, positive affect increased accordingly. The research findings extend our understanding of the emotional benefits of engaging in physical activity and being with others while spending time in natural environments. Moreover, the findings indicate that research on natural restorative environments must take the social context and forms of activity into consideration.
