The new Fermilab data on np charge exchange are analysed phenomenologically, to determine the energy dependence of the amplitudes in the corresponding domain (60/sPlab/s<300 GeV/c). Use is made of a set of amplitudes determined by a phenomenological analysis of lower-energy data, which reproduce the experimental results correctly fromPlab=1 GeV/c to 40 GeV/c and do not depend on energy. In a first approach (two-component analysis), these known constant terms are subtracted from the amplitudes, and the energy dependence of the remainder is studied. The values found for αeff(⋍0.71+0.31t) are definitely incompatible with the ρ and A2 trajectories. If one imposes the presence of standard ρ-A2 terms (three-component analysis), one has to introduce a pomeronlike contribution, with a trajectory α⋍1.0+0.25t. In both cases, the resulting parametrization gives a good description of the data fromPlab=1 GeV/c up to 300 GeV/c.
