Improving the Quality of the Logistics and Supply Chain Management Faculty According to a Competency-Based Approach at Vietnamese Universities

In the context of global economic integration, the logistics and supply chain management industry is becoming a spearhead sector driving the development of Vietnam's economy. However, the current growth of this industry is facing difficulties due to a shortage of high-quality human resources in terms of both quantity and skills. The teaching activities of logistics and supply chain management at Vietnamese universities still have many limitations and do not meet the specific needs of developing students' capacity after graduation. This article is based on a survey of the general situation of teaching logistics and supply chain management at Vietnamese universities. In which, the current situation of the teaching staff is still lacking in experience and expertise in the field of logistics and supply chain management. In addition, teaching methods are still quite traditional and do not meet the requirements for interaction, application, practical skills, and creative thinking for students. Through analyzing the factors affecting the teaching process, the article introduces a solution to improve the quality of the teaching staff of logistics and supply chain management based on a competency-based approach.

The Influence of Online Classroom Games (OCG) on Undergraduates’ Academic Excellence: A Study in the Context of Hybrid Learning

Hybrid learning has gained momentum globally, offering a viable alternative to traditional face-to-face education. As it involves combining traditional classroom instruction with online elements, hybrid learning has expanded possibilities for enriching education. Due to this fact, educators are constantly seeking innovative ways to engage students in the ever-evolving educational landscape. Hence, exploring diverse teaching tools beyond traditional methods is crucial. This concept paper explores the influence of Online Classroom Games (OCG) on the academic attainment of undergraduates, utilizing a qualitative approach to gather data. Initially, the interview transcripts will be gathered from 4 programs in the cluster of Business and Management faculty involving 16 participants. They will be carefully reviewed to identify recurring patterns. The findings of this study will offer empirically-based strategies to heighten student engagement and improve learning outcomes in the contemporary educational sphere. Ultimately, the outcomes of this research aspire to aid the educational community in readying itself for the hybrid and flexible learning system, as recently introduced by the Malaysia Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

Analysing Students’ Translation Work on Indonesian Prepositional Phrases into English

This research is entitled Analyzing Students’Translation Works on Indonesian Prepositional Phrases into English. Prepositional phrases are phrases that contain prepositions with nouns or nominal phrases, or prepositional phrases. The aims of this research are (1) to describe prepositional phrases in Indonesian as the Source Language and their translation into English, and (2) to analyze the types of translation procedure applied by the students of Bachelor of English Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University. This research is included in qualitative descriptive research, the data were taken from the translation of folk tales by fourth semester students of Bachelor of English Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Udayana University, using observation methods and recording techniques. The data were then analyzed by applying translation procedure theory, and Indonesian and English syntactic theories. The data is presented formally and informally in the form tree diagrams followed by elaborations. The results show that the types of prepositional phrases in Indonesian have head elements in the form of prepositions with modifiers; nouns or nominal phrases, or prepositional phrases. The translation procedures applied are literal, transposition, borrowing, and modulation.

TRANSCRIBATHON ZAGREB 2022 – EXPERIENCES AND RESULTS

Transcribathon Zagreb 2022 was held at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb from November 7-11, 2022. It was organized as a part of the Enrich Europeana + project. During that period a certain number of students worked on a few selected archival fonds and collections. Their task was transcribing the uploaded documents on Europeana and the Transcribathon platform. The event had a competitive tone because the best students in three categories received awards. The Archives organized a conference “Cultural Heritage and AI” on the first two days of the Transcribathon Zagreb event. This paper will focus on preparations for the Transcribathon Zagreb 2022 event and the results. It will also have a part in which we will explain the idea for the conference, who and why the lecturers were, and its overall outcome.

Writing and scientific publication skills of university teachers: A survey study

In the academic world, the skills of scientific writing and publishing allow for the sharing and dissemination of academic research. The research analysed the scientific publications of university teachers from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Technical University of Manabí (FCHS-UTM), Ecuador, in order to determine their skills and preferences in terms of scientific journals, writing language, type of publication, indexing, and editorial quality. A descriptive quantitative approach study was applied. A survey study was carried out. The sample selection was non-probabilistic and participatory. The sample consisted of 55 teachers from the faculty. A 25-item questionnaire was developed for data collection. The results were analysed using descriptive statistics. Among the results the faculty has a preference for national or local scientific journals. The language most used in studies is Spanish. University researchers are more professional in their use of American Psychological Association (APA) norms. The study presented implications such as the promotion of scientific publication and professional development, preservation of language and culture, professionalism in citation standards, promotion of collaboration, improvement of editorial quality and training strategies.

Cortical, subcortical, and cerebellar contributions to language processing: A meta-analytic review of 403 neuroimaging experiments.

Language is a key human faculty for communication and interaction that provides invaluable insight into the human mind. Previous work has dissected different linguistic operations, but the large-scale brain networks involved in language processing are still not fully uncovered. Particularly, little is known about the subdomain-specific engagement of brain areas during semantic, syntactic, phonological, and prosodic processing and the role of subcortical and cerebellar areas. Here, we present the largest coordinate-based meta-analysis of language processing including 403 experiments. Overall, language processing primarily engaged bilateral fronto-temporal cortices, with the highest activation likelihood in the left posterior inferior frontal gyrus (IFG). Whereas we could not detect any syntax-specific regions, semantics specifically engaged left posterior temporal areas (left fusiform and occipitotemporal cortex) and the left frontal pole. Phonology showed highest subdomain-specificity in bilateral auditory and left postcentral regions, whereas prosody engaged specifically the right amygdala and the right IFG. Across all subdomains and modalities, we found strong bilateral subcortical and cerebellar contributions. Especially the right cerebellum was engaged during various processes, including speech production, visual, and phonological tasks. Collectively, our results emphasize consistent recruitment and high functional modularity for general language processing in bilateral domain-specific (temporo-frontal) and domain-general (medial frontal/anterior cingulate cortex) regions but also a high specialization of different subareas for different linguistic subdomains. Our findings refine current neurobiological models of language by adding novel insight into the general sensitivity of the language network and subdomain-specific functions of different brain areas and highlighting the role of subcortical and cerebellar regions for different language operations. Teacher-class relationship and emotional intelligence in the academic output and generic competence of higher education students.

Academic output of students is considered as a crucial element and it is affected by various aspects. Teacher-class relationship, emotional intelligence and generic competence are the elements which can have a considerable effect on the academic output of the students. Current study was intended to find out the moderating role of teacher-class relationship, emotional intelligence in the academic output and generic competence of higher education students. All the teachers and students of University of Sargodha were the population of the study. The sample was taken from four departments of different faculties of University of Sargodha i.e., Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Faculty of Social Sciences. For this study, a sample of 21 teachers and 320 students from regular and self-support programs was selected conveniently from University of Sargodha. For data collection, three adapted instruments were used. Findings of current study concluded an insignificant moderating role of teacher-class relationship and emotional intelligence in the academic output and generic competence of students at higher education. The results of present study provide guideline to curriculum developers for developing the generic competence of students so that they can progress in future prospects which will eventually make contribution towards economy, moreover, stakeholder may take steps in order to develop the emotional intelligence of students by providing them needful counseling and trainings which will improve the academic output of students.

Century-old experience of land management and formation of new agricultural landscapes in the Central Chernozem Region

To the 100th anniversary of the Land Management and Landscape Design Department of the Voronezh State Agrarian University/ The anniversary article is devoted to the history of the formation and development of the Department of Land Management and Landscape Design of the Faculty of Land Management and Cadastre of the Voronezh State Agrarian University. The analysis of 100-years experience in land management and the formation of new agricultural landscapes in the Central Black Earth region is presented in this paper. The authors also propose the measures to improve land management at the present stage.

Library and information science study program through the eyes of students: Preliminary findings

Library and information science (LIS) as a discipline is constantly changing in line with the trends of the profession, so in order to ensure that LIS curriculum in higher education addresses the needs of contemporary stakeholders, evidence-based evaluation is needed. Student satisfaction has become an important factor in considering the success of the institution of higher education. The studies on student motivation for enrolling in LIS programs are many, but papers on student perception of satisfaction with their LIS study programs are rarer. This paper focuses on the efforts of ensuring curriculum quality of the LIS program at the graduate level of study at the Department of Information Sciences of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Osijek, Croatia. The main aim of the study was to determine how satisfied the students are with the quality of their study program and to identify its strengths and weaknesses. The study was carried out by anonymous online survey in which the students were asked to rate their satisfaction with the study program and the obtained professional and lifelong learning competences. While findings of the study are relevant for the revision of the LIS study program at the Osijek Department, this study can also have larger implications for LIS education trends globally, for it has confirmed some of the results from international studies.

Czech Student´s Interest in Studying Abroad and Non-European Mobility

The publication is focused on the evaluation of the interest and experiences of students of the Faculty of Economics and Management of students from the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague (CULS) with international mobility during their studies. The publication evaluates the current development of the number of incoming and outgoing students within the Erasmus+ program and in study programs outside Europe in the years 2008-2019. Based on time series models, the expected development of indicators in the following years were predicted. In the interpretation of the results, factors related to the global epidemiological situation in 2020 and 2021 are taken into account. The solution uses the results of a questionnaire survey carried among outgoing students of the Faculty of Economics and Management. The survey showed that students perceive international mobility as a unique benefit that will make it easier for them to find adequate employment in the labor market in the future. International mobility is highly valued for improving language skills, learning about new cultures and creating foreign social ties.

The Relationship between Employability Skill and Job Mismatch towards Graduates’ Unemployment

Academic graduates are expected to contribute more significantly to industry and the national economy by bringing in skills, knowledge, innovation, and productivity. Their role is essential in driving industrial growth, sustainability, and overall development for economic growth. However, in Malaysia, the difficulty of finding employment for graduates has become a major problem, not only from the graduates’ point of view but also from the employer. While the graduates are struggling to find job openings that match their skills, the employers at the other end find it difficult to locate people who are compatible with their businesses' vision. In Malaysia, several causes contributed to an increase in the unemployment rate for recent graduates including graduates' lack of employability skills and job mismatches. Quality such as communication, soft skills, problem-solving, and creative abilities, are shown to be weak in unemployed graduates. This research attempts to examine the relationship between employability skills and job mismatches towards the graduate’s unemployment. A questionnaire has been developed to gather the data. Graduates of the Faculty of Business and Management (FBM), UiTM have been identified as the population. Descriptive and regression analyses were run using SPSS software. Findings suggested that both independent variables (employability skills and job mismatches) contributed significantly towards the graduate’s unemployment. This study is significant as it highlights the need for graduates to improve necessary skills such as leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills (Briones, G. et al., 2021) needed within the industry to land a job.

Factorial Structure and Psychometric Validation of Social Media Intelligence Quotient (SMIQ) Scales among Graduates

The Social Media Intelligence Quotient (SMIQ)'s underlying factorial structure will be extracted, and validated, and its psychometric properties will be examined in this study. Self-administered questionnaires from the universities that produce the most employable graduates in Malaysia, such as Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and Universiti Teknologi Mara, were utilized by the researcher to gather the data. It involved 352 final-year students from the Faculty of Business Management. To ascertain the factorial structure of the SMIQ, the researcher used the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). Additionally, the confirmatory factorial analysis (CFA) was used to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of each item to confirm and validate it. A structural model was also developed to measure the nomological validity between social media dependency and SMIQ. It revealed that SMIQ is second order with three factorial structure constructs and met the psychometric criteria. Thus, the findings have essential implications for future research directions and the management of social media skills.

Quality assurance strategies of higher education in digital era: an Anthropology of education study in Islamic higher education institution

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to demonstrate the strategy and innovation of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities in developing the quality of education in digital era by using anthropology of education approach.Design/methodology/approachIn accordance with the research purpose to demonstrate the strategy and innovation of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities in developing the quality of education in the digital era using an educational anthropology approach, the method used is descriptive qualitative, which refers to data in the form of interviews obtained from the field.FindingsThe results of this research indicate that there are strategies and innovations to develop the quality of higher education at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities in the digital era. These include adjusting the curriculum with the context of the era, implementing the learning process based on research and reinforcing on aspects of digital literacy among students through the innovation of the library based on digital.Originality/valueThis study can be considered in the process of evaluating policies related to quality reinforcing strategies and innovations at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities in facing the challenges of the times. The study is only limited to tracing and analyzing strategies and innovations to reinforce education in the Faculty of Adab and Humanities and their impact on human resource development. For further research, it can be done in more detail and depth and on a larger scale.

Students Experience Using Learning Factory at the Faculty of Industrial Management

One of the issues faced by the industry internationally is a lack of skilled workers to meet growing industrial demands. To satisfy the demanding requirements of the manufacturing industry in such a scenario, both the educational content and didactical methodologies need to be enhanced. However, the university and other higher education institutions do not currently use training and teaching strategies that prepare students for employment in the industrial sector. The learning factory concept can be introduced to the institution to resolve this problem. The learning factory technique mixes business activities with the educational process. This study evaluates the student’s perception in using the learning factory concepts at the Universiti Malaysia Pahang, a Malaysian public university located in Pahang, Malaysia. A qualitative research method was employed, and data was collected by interviewing six undergraduate students who had used the learning factory for their lean manufacturing subject. The interview took place at the end of the semester using a structured, open-ended interviewing questions technique. According to the study, the learning factory has four primary advantages which are increase students' interest in TVET topics, boost their level of soft skills, increase their comprehension, and offer tools to help them retain knowledge. The findings of this study can be used to provide new suggestions for lecturers, instructors, or higher education institution administration on how to make teaching students simpler and more engaging using learning factory concept. Future research should study the relationship between learning factory infrastructure, instructional approaches, with student performance.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Sport Model: Grounded Theory Approach

A key feature of Iranian sporting clubs is the increased focus on the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). A large number of Iranian sporting clubs are employing CSR initiatives to support specific stakeholders and to leverage their societal positions. Nevertheless, there is limited research that has examined CSR in Iranian sports to guide policy and practice associated with CSR initiatives. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to examine CSR in the Iranian sports industry so as to support the advancement and evaluation of CSR initiatives in clubs. A developmental orientation was adopted in this qualitative research. Participants were selected using a combination of purposeful and snowball sampling methods. A total of 30 participants were involved including executive managers, university faculty members, and coaches of the Iranian Premier League clubs of Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Futsal, and Handball, as well as members of university sport management faculties. One-on-one, semi-structured interviews were used to generate data. Data analysis procedures were conducted in line with the principles of grounded theory and involved open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. In this study, 64 open source codes were identified. Further, the use of the grounded theoretical approach led to the creation of a theoretical model comprised of causal conditions (five categories), contextual conditions (two categories), intervening conditions (six categories), strategies (two categories), and consequences (four categories) that describe the phenomenon of CSR in Iranian sport. Particular attention is given to the five key causal categories that were cultural, social, economic, policy, and institutional in nature. CSR activities were found to have the capacity to impact the promotion of the club through a number of concepts and categories, including fostering trust amongst the public, promoting ethical dimensions through sport, discovering and creating new markets, and attracting supporters. This analysis situated in the Middle East provides a way of considering CSR that is an alternative to the dominant Western approaches.

Improving Student Interview Preparation Through Collaborative Multimodal Mock-Interview Assignments

This research explored the usefulness of a mock-interview assignment through collaborative work between sport and recreation management faculty and communication center staff. The assignment paired entry-level undergraduate students working on mock-interviewing skills as job applicants with upper level undergraduate students acting as hiring managers for a series of mock interviews. Peer educators and faculty in the communication center conducted instructional workshops, provided direct student support and feedback, and facilitated the mock interviews. Data were collected on students’ insights of their job interview skills and career preparation during the 2019–20 academic year. The pivot to emergency remote learning during the spring 2020 semester led the assignment and research collection to happen virtually. The results and findings advocate the positive impact that role playing as hiring managers has on students, the effectiveness of students’ receiving multiple sources of feedback, and the value of virtual or online mock interviewing.

FAKTOR-FAKTOR YANG MEMPENGARUHI KECENDERUNGAN PEMILIHAN KERJAYA KEUSAHAWANAN DIGITAL DALAM KALANGAN PELAJAR PENDIDIKAN TAHUN AKHIR

The selection of a digital entrepreneurship career is increasingly becoming an selection among final year students at university incluidng final year teacher education. The purpose of this research was to determine whether social media literacy and motivational factors (attitudes toward digital entrepreneurship, behavioural control, and subjective norms) had an impact on the tendency of digital entrepreneurial career choice during the COVID-19 pandemic among final year teacher education students. This study was also carried out to determine the level of the propensity for digital entrepreneurial career choice and the dominant factors influencing such propensity during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, 113 students were chosen as respondents from a total of 158 final years teacher education students from the Faculty of Management and Economics (FPE) at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI). This study used a proportional stratified random sampling method to ensure that the sample's percentage ratio was parallel to the subpopulation's percentage ratio. The influence that existed between the dependent variables and the independent variables in this study was assessed using multiple regression analysis. To answer research questions about levels and dominant factors, descriptive analysis involving mean values and standard deviations was also used. According to the study's findings, only motivational factors had a significant positive influence on the tendency of digital entrepreneurship career choice during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study's findings also show that the level of digital entrepreneurship career choice among students is medium to high, and the most powerful factor influencing this career choice tendency is motivation (subjective norm). This research is expected to help stakeholders design and implement appropriate follow-up actions to encourage prospective graduates to pursue digital entrepreneurial careers.

Stitching Together (in) Anthropology Class

As an anthropologist teaching at a German-speaking Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology Department (pertaining to a Humanities Faculty), it always struck me how much we know about the role embodiment plays in and for culture and how little we make use of this in teaching. For this reason, I decided to expand established Higher Education pedagogy by putting craft (as a) practice at the centre of my newly developed course entitled DIY in Times of Crisis and Beyond. As a result, my students and I developed our thinking through and while practising embroidery in class, weaving in the mandatory readings and narrations of (pandemic) crafting experiences along the way. Borrowing from the low-threshold approach to stitching in community-based creativity projects, our shared and mostly novice stitching facilitated the articulation of thoughts-in-progress, thus creating a space in which dominant views regarding social (craft) norms, quantifiable productivity as well as academic logocentrism could be temporarily suspended, giving way to embodied wisdom.

Challenges of Using Online Distance Learning Platforms in Higher Education: Perception of Business Students

The year 2020 has changed the world of education intensely with the distinctive rise of online distance learning (ODL), whereby teaching and learning are undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. Driven by both the pandemic and advancements in digital technologies, the new norm of online learning continues to persist post-pandemic. Therefore, this paper explored the extent of ODL challenges faced by semester 5 business students in one of the public universities in Malaysia. Their perception of internal and external challenges namely time management, attitude, self-esteem, internet connection, socioeconomic and non-conducive environment will be examined. By using non-probability sampling, data were gathered from a total of 110 semesters 5 business students from 9 courses in the Faculty of Business and Management. The findings of this study revealed that internal challenges domain (time management, attitude, self-esteem) affect students the most in ODL. Consequently, the result of this study is hoped to help the education community prepare for a hybrid and flexible learning system as recently announced by the Malaysia Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
