Analysis of Knowledge Management and Total Quality Management Implementation: A Study on Indonesian Small and Medium Enterprises

This study deals specifically with analyzing the implementation of Knowledge Management (KM) and Total Quality Management (TQM) in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia. The purpose is to analyze the implementation of KM Elements and TQM Practices in SMEs in Indonesia and identify the challenges faced by SMEs in Indonesia in implementing TQM and KM. This article is based on information about SMEs in Indonesia that are recorded in the digital ecosystem of 27 million in December 2023. . The primary and secondary data collected were analyzed using content analysis techniques with a qualitative approach. The results show that the most applied Knowledge Management Elements (KME) are "Knowledge Application" and "Knowledge Acquisition" and the most applied Integrated Quality Management (TQMP) practices by SMEs in Indonesia are "Continuous Improvement". Assessing knowledge management's impact on supply chain performance in a strategic trend

AbstractSupply chain performance (SCP) is the major factor that helps companies to increase its competitiveness. However, knowledge management (KM) has, in appearance, a direct impact on SCP, but its formalization remains always ambiguous. In fact, this paper aims to determine KM impact on SCP facets (SCPF) through highlighting the relation between KM elements (KME) and SCPF. Proposed approach consists, first, to design a conceptual model identifying the relationship between KME and SCPF. Thereafter, to implement this model, quality function deployment (QFD) house of quality (HOQ) was used. Through the interrelationship matrix, the impact of each KME on whole SCPF can be measured and evaluated, similarly, the impact of whole KME on each SCPF. Finally, based on interviews treated with the managers of SIDILEC international company, a case study was implemented. The results demonstrate that knowledge application, sharing, and capitalization are the most impacting KME on all SCPF. Furthermore, reliability and sustainability are the most impacted SCPF by all KME.

True knowledge vs empowering knowledge: conceptualizing a theory of mindfulness and knowledge transfer (TMKT)

PurposeMindfulness is the human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we're doing. This study explores on the impact of mindfulness on different elements of knowledge management, knowledge creation, knowledge sharing and knowledge hiding.Design/methodology/approachThe authors undertake an inductive reasoning approach whereby they try to generate themes from specific observations and conceptualize the theory of mindfulness and knowledge transfer.FindingsThis study finds out that mindfulness critically facilitates an open environment and enhances the clarity of thought which aids in effective knowledge creation. Such a realistic understanding about the present scenario encourages employees to share knowledge and equips them to collaborate and effectively work in teams. Surprisingly, this study also finds that mindfulness increases the result orientation to the extent that employees tried to hide knowledge from their co-workers targeting certain self-desired outcomes. In other words, similar to knowledge creation and knowledge sharing, mindfulness increases agenda-based knowledge hiding.Originality/valueThe theory of mindfulness and knowledge transfer states that mindfulness increases knowledge creation, knowledge sharing and agenda-based knowledge hiding.

Green knowledge management to achieve corporate sustainable development

The mining industry significantly impacts the three pillars of sustainable development: the economy, the environment, and society. Therefore, it is essential to incorporate sustainability principles into operational practices. Organizations can accomplish this through knowledge management activities and diverse knowledge resources. A study of 300 employees from two of the largest mining corporations in South Kalimantan, Indonesia, found that four out of five elements of knowledge management—green knowledge acquisition, green knowledge storage, green knowledge application, and green knowledge creation—have a direct impact on the sustainability of businesses. The calculation was determined using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). However, the study also found that the influence of collectivist cultural norms inhibits the direct effect of green knowledge sharing on corporate sustainable development. The finding suggests that companies operating in collectivist cultures may need to take additional measures to encourage knowledge sharing, such as rewarding employees for sharing their expertise on green initiatives, supportive organizational culture, clear expectations, and opportunities for social interaction.

The Importance of Knowledge Management in Secondary Vocational Education Organizations in Greece

In recent years, knowledge management has increased in popularity as a management tool, as well as a new research field. Most organizations realize that "knowledge" is a strategic resource that can provide them with a sustainable competitive advantage and help them to achieve long-term organizational goals. Based on this, organizations attempt to use knowledge management to promote innovation, to improve organizational efficiency also to accelerate the creation and exchange of knowledge. The purpose of this paper is to present the importance of knowledge management in Greek vocational education. Essentially, it will study and try to highlight the way Vocational High Schools (VΗC), which are being secondary vocational education organizations, to attempt to manage knowledge in an effective way, also the knowledge management practices that can be useful in such an environment. The conclusions highlight the important elements of knowledge management in technical vocational education organizations.

Knowledge Management and Total Quality Management Impact on Employee Effectiveness in Emerging Industries: Case of Tunisian Small and Medium Enterprises

Employee effectiveness is highly important for all economic activities. Several factors can affect its degree, either positively or negatively. In this vein, this work aims to examine the impact of knowledge management and total quality management on employee effectiveness in the industry of emerging countries. For that, Tunisian small and medium enterprises were taken as an example. The proposed methodology consists first of providing a research model linking the correlation between knowledge management elements, total quality management practices, and employee effectiveness. Then, a survey was designed and broadcast to more than 3000 Tunisian small and medium enterprises. Hence, 206 responses were collected from several industrial fields, and collected data analysis was achieved by SPSS software. For testing research hypotheses, multiple regression analysis, factor analysis, and structural equation modeling were employed. The finding points out that total quality management and knowledge management have a positive impact on staff effectiveness. This impact is highlighted through the roles of knowledge management elements and total quality management practices on human resources behavior and their ability enhancement. Consequently, a significant increase in productivity can be seen in the operational processes of the company. This work is one of the first studies to research total quality management and knowledge management impact on staff effectiveness in Tunisian small and medium enterprises. Besides, it reflects the maturity and the awareness of respondent companies’ managers to the practice of these concepts in emerging economies.

Knowledge Management and Its Role in Organizational Effectiveness and Decision Making: A Descriptive Study

For firms looking to preserve a competitive advantage in the fast-paced commercial climate of today, knowledge management is an essential task. This descriptive study aims to investigate the function of knowledge management in decision-making and organizational effectiveness. The study covers the core ideas and elements of knowledge management and how they might be used to improve organizational performance through a survey of the literature. The study also explores the role that knowledge management can play in assisting decision-making at the organizational and individual levels. The results of this study demonstrate the significance of knowledge management as a tactical instrument for managing intellectual capital and adding value in businesses. According to the study's findings, a knowledge management system that is effective can increase organizational effectiveness by promoting information sharing and innovation.

The Impact of Knowledge Management on the Economic Indicators of the Companies

Abstract This paper analyzes the impact of knowledge management on the organizational performance of companies measured through previously defined economic indicators. Knowledge management in the company is observed through the factors that make up a knowledge management system, namely: business processes, people (employees), and information technology, while the same has been done for economic indicators through indicators of liquidity, indebtedness, activity, economic efficiency, and profitability. Knowledge management as a variable is described by ordinal data, while the business indicator variable is described by quantitative, real data. Research shows that most large companies have built-in elements of knowledge management, some medium-sized companies are involved in this process, and most small companies have not developed management strategies in which knowledge management exists as an important factor. The research also proves that there is a positive correlation between knowledge management and economic indicators, i.e., in other words, the research shows that knowledge management has a positive impact on reducing indebtedness and increasing liquidity, activity, economic efficiency, and profitability.

The augmentation of Knowledge Management through Industry 4.0: case of Aviation sector of emerging economy

ABSTRACT This research examines critical elements of knowledge management and industry 4.0 that assist human resources in the air transport industry. In addition, we look at the essential components that connect the divide between Industry 4.0 and knowledge management. This paper uses the Grey- DEMATEL technique to comprehend the cause-and-effect factors and their interrelationships. A seven-scale ranking, and sensitivity analysis was further applied for better results. It was observed from the findings that information sharing (F15) was the most significant factor for the aviation sector as the causal factor was ranked as the top criterion. Joint knowledge creation (F15) was ranked as the second topmost criteria as effect factor. E-learning (F9) is the third-ranking effect factor. This paper showed that information sharing assists in management performance and efficiency performance in the aviation sector.

An emerging knowledge management framework adopted by healthcare workers in China to combatCOVID‐19

This study examines elements of knowledge management (KM) applied during the treatment of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) and proposes a KM framework that can be applied to respond quickly to a new virus outbreak. Following a content analysis of the press conferences held in China, this study found that various elements of KM, including strategic KM, the knowledge codification strategy vs. the knowledge personalization strategy, a knowledge‐friendly culture, knowledge‐based leadership, KM‐based human resource management, and KM‐related information technologies, were widely used by Chinese authorities and healthcare workers to improve treatment effectiveness for COVID‐19 patients. This paper provides a unique case study on how KM helps the government and the healthcare workers to respond to an unexpected public hygiene crisis.i

A Novel Framework for Extracting Knowledge Management from Business Intelligence Log Files in Hospitals

This paper proposes a framework to extract knowledge-management elements from business systems in healthcare organizations. According to results of in-depth interviews with experts in the field, a framework is defined, and software was developed to generate log files. Following the application of the Bag of Words (BoW) method on log files of 455 days for feature extraction, the k-means algorithm was used to cluster the feature vectors. The framework was tested with queries for confirmation. The developed framework successfully clustered the generated reports at operational, tactical, and strategic levels to extract knowledge-management elements. This study provides evidence for the knowledge-management pyramid by finding that the generated reports are reviewed mostly at the operational level, then tactical, and then the least at the strategic level. Our framework has the potential to be used not only in the health sector, but also in banking, insurance, and other businesses using business intelligence, especially in accordance with the organization’s goals at operational, tactical, and strategic levels of the knowledge-management pyramid.

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES - AN OVERVIEW OF THE UNDERPINNING CONCEPTS

Among the essential elements of knowledge management is the use of information and data, as well as the knowledge, skills, and abilities inherent within communities, as well as their ideas, commitments, and motivations for making good decisions as emerging technologies become more prevalent. Numerous leading social scientists in this field have asserted that organizational knowledge should be regarded as a strategic asset. There is a growing awareness of the importance of gathering, locating, capturing, and sharing collective knowledge and expertise of societies, and societies are urged to develop effective and efficient methods of gathering, locating, capturing, and sharing that knowledge in order to deal with problems and to benefit from opportunities. People living in many countries and regions are interested in implementing knowledge management processes and technologies, and many of them have included knowledge management as an integral part of their overall development strategies. The management of knowledge plays an increasingly important role in global economic development (Bell, 1973, 1978). In order to remain relevant in the modern world, organizations should not ignore knowledge management and emerging technologies.

Impacts, lessons learnt and envisioning the future of firms under COVID-19 – implications for knowledge management

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the significance of knowledge management as a tool for firms to adapt to an ongoing unprecedented crisis. Moreover, in considering the knowledge-based view of the firm, the study will ascertain the impacts, lessons learnt and how firms envisage their future under the current unpredictable regime from the viewpoints of firm owners/managers. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative data collection approach was selected, with face-to-face and online interviews undertaken with owners/managers of 33 firms operating in Singapore. Findings The data analysis reveals as many as eight dimensions pertaining to impacts, lessons learnt and the envisioned future of the firms. The relevance of knowledge management emerged, for instance, in supporting firms and staff to overcome initial challenges after the crisis became apparent. Knowledge management was also an exemplar of lessons learnt, through new knowledge development, strengthening links with consumers, through operational skilfulness and awareness, as well as in explaining how firms envision their future. These findings also underscore key tenets of the knowledge-based view of the firm. Originality/value Conceptually, the proposed dimensions stemming from the three examined research questions, together with the propositions and theoretical framework, contribute to a deeper understanding of the links between knowledge management and how firms confront a severe crisis. Empirically, the findings’ highlighted associations with knowledge management elements to illuminate how firms address the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, as well as the lessons learnt and the envisioned future of firms operating under severe crisis conditions.

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT AT PROJECT-ORIENTED ENTERPRISES

The analysis of the peculiarities of knowledge management of operational and project activities at the project-oriented enterprise is carried out in the work. The conceptual model of knowledge management of the project-oriented enterprise for achievement of optimum economic indicators of the enterprise activity is developed. For operational activities, the constituent elements of knowledge management are people (employees), technology and processes. For project activities, these are project knowledge management, knowledge management between projects and knowledge management about project management. Project knowledge management involves people (project team), technology and processes. Knowledge management between projects includes technologies that allow the dissemination of knowledge between the projects of the enterprise that are being implemented. Project management knowledge includes integration, content, timing, cost, quality, resources, communications, risk, procurement, and project stakeholder management. Operational knowledge management is carried out at the following levels: individual (employee level), group (department level), organizational (enterprise level) and inter-organizational. Knowledge management of project activities is carried out at the following levels: individual (project team member level), group (project team level), organizational (implemented project), global. Stages (phases) of knowledge management are formation → accumulation, acquisition → generation → exchange → storage and documentation → use → knowledge management result. As a result of knowledge management of operational and project activities, taking into account the constituent elements, levels, stages (phases), we can form a generalized indicator. For operational activities, this is the level of maturity of knowledge management enterprises, for project activities, this is the level of maturity of the project management enterprise (in the context of knowledge management of project activities). Influencing factors of knowledge enhancement of corporate universities in China

PurposeCorporate universities are regarded as the knowledge management institution of enterprises, but how to improve knowledge enhancement function has not been investigated. Constructed upon the knowledge-based view, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influencing factors of knowledge enhancement of corporate universities.Design/methodology/approachThis paper takes 34 Chinese corporate universities as samples. The influencing factors and interrelationships are checked through exploratory case study and multi-case analysis. A “stimulate-action” model of influencing factors is built up based on the multi-case analysis. The fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis is used to examine configurational paths for knowledge enhancement.FindingsThe research finding shows that only a single element of knowledge management does not constitute a necessary condition for knowledge enhancement of corporate university and explored the concurrent synergy effect and linkage matching mode of multiple conditions of knowledge management. Most of the knowledge-enhanced corporate universities are of strengthening the knowledge process, which shows that sorting out the knowledge process is the core of the corporate university.Originality/valueUnlike the existing research, the external teachers and combing of external knowledge processes are the key factors; this paper proposed that the internal teachers and sorting out the knowledge process within the enterprise play a central role in the knowledge enhancement of corporate universities. The path of high-knowledge enhancement and without high-knowledge enhancement is asymmetry. This paper refined and extended the application of the knowledge management framework in explaining multiple conjunctural causations and improves the relevant theories of organizational knowledge management in the Chinese context.

The Development of Team Learning Skills through Knowledge Management of Higher Education Students in 21st Century

The purposes of this research were 1) to study levels of knowledge management and the team of undergraduate students, 2) to compare levels of the team of undergraduate students who have different personal characteristics and 3) to study the relationship between knowledge management and the team of undergraduate students. The samples of this study were 57 undergraduate students chosen by purposive random sampling. Research instruments were observation form and questionnaire divided into 2 parts: knowledge management and teamwork and the reliability of the questionnaires were .813 and .895, respectively. The statistics used in this research were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficients. This research revealed that the levels of knowledge management factors and the levels of team factor were in highest. The hypothesis testing results indicated that knowledge management factors were positively related to team factors at a significance level of 0.01. The Impact of Knowledge Management on Service Quality: The Mediating Role of Organization Learning (Applied Study: Alexandria Water Company)

The purpose of paper is to explore the role of the learning organization as a mediating variable between knowledge management and service quality in these organizations, also the paper aims to review the concept of learning organization, and the different elements of knowledge management and service quality in service business organizations. In order to achieve the purposes of the study, researcher adopted a descriptive analytical method, valid research instrument was utilized to conduct a survey of (450) questionnaires which were distributed, and (398) questionnaires were retrieved for analysis, rating (88%) of the distributed questionnaires. Analyzing data was conducted using a set of statistical methods including a normality test along with Cronbach’s alpha, standard deviation, confirmatory factor analysis, exploratory factor analysis, multiple and simple linear regression using SPSS-V25 and AMOS-V25. The study reached a set of results, the most important of which are: 1) There is a statistically impact at significant level (α ≤ 0.05) of knowledge management on service quality through the learning organization as a mediating variable in Alexandria Water Company in Egypt. 2) There is a significant correlation between learning organization and knowledge management, also there is a significant correlation between knowledge management and service quality, and finally there is a significant correlation between learning organization and service quality. The study reached a set of recommendations, the most important of which are: 1) It is necessary to plan, organize, lead and monitor enterprise knowledge and process management with emphasis on efficiency and effectiveness of the right of access to it; 2) Managers and owners should pay attention to the learning organization, as it plays a major role in building and forming organization culture and knowledge structure of organizations.

A study of knowledge management alignment with production management: A study of carpet manufacture in Kurdistan region of Iraq

The manufacturing sector has been profoundly impacted by advances in project management knowledge. As a result, it is critical to optimize service development processes in every project. The aim of this research was to increase cement manufacturing production by applying knowledge management concepts and Knowledge management as a mediator. The study was conducted at various cement manufacturing facilities in Iraq's Kurdistan province. To quantify production improvement in cement companies, the researchers examined four facets of knowledge management: Knowledge creation, Knowledge storage management, knowledge sharing, and Knowledge application, with Knowledge management serving as a mediator. To conduct the current analysis, the researchers used a quantitative research approach in the form of a survey. The questionnaire was randomly distributed to 140 administrative employees of various cement manufacturing companies in the Kurdistan region. The researchers did, however, collect 128completed questionnaires. To assess developed research hypotheses, the study used hierarchical multiple regression analysis and the Sobel test. The findings indicated that all knowledge management elements (Knowledge creation, Knowledge storage development, knowledge sharing, and Knowledge application) had a clear and important positive relationship with increased production at carpet manufacturers in Iraq's Kurdistan region. Additionally, the findings indicated that all knowledge management concepts with a mediator (project management development program) had an indirect positive and important relationship with increased production at cement manufacturing facilities in Iraq's Kurdistan region.

Enhancing organizational performance in the telecommunication industry in Saudi Arabia

The aim of this study is to provide an insight into the factors that influence the successful implementation of knowledge management and organizational performance in Saudi Arabia’s telecommunications industry. One thousand copies of survey questionnaires were sent to targeted telecommunication organization and they were distributed by hand. Middle management level was chosen to participate in this study due to their importance as stressed by many knowledge management researchers. Out of the 1000 questionnaires distributed, 441 complete questionnaires were successfully collected and used for data analysis. There is still a lack of the knowledge management research in the Saudi Arabia context. The present research focus-es on telecommunication industry in Saudi Arabia. The result of this research will be able to provide an insight into what are the overall perception overall perception of knowledge management and how various knowledge management elements (preliminary success factors, strategies and processes) affect the successful implementation of knowledge management and its organizational performance among the telecommunication organizations in Saudi Arabia. The findings are useful for the telecommunication industry. The present research serves as one of the pioneer studies that focuses on telecommunication industry in Saudi Arabia. The empirical insights from this study contributes to successful implementation of knowledge management in the telecommunication industry in Saudi Arabia.

Enhancing Software Development Teams’ Client Awareness: An Empirical Study of Its Impact on Productivity

In the software industry, a critical factor in a project’s success is raising productivity, and software development teams must always consider its challenges. In today’s competitive industry, the productivity of team members in software development is a serious issue that attracts considerable attention. Studies have been conducted on various aspects of team and individual productivity; however, the literature still refers to a lack of research into the impact of team awareness, observing that it is an essential element of knowledge management in the project’s development life cycle. This study takes up this point and presents an actual software development case study to investigate the impact of increasing knowledge and producing adequate information on clients’ domain and business model on both team productivity and that of each individual member. The study was undertaken with two development teams over one month, each receiving about 300 requirements. One of the teams was given sufficient information on the client’s domain and background in terms of its business model, while the other was given nothing before it went to the client’s workplace, without any knowledge of its domain. The results achieved were statistically significant, showing better productivity among the team with the information, with 261 of 300 requirements completed, whereas the other completed just 107. The findings of this study will help software research to focus both on the aspects of knowledge management that relate to software development and on the correlation between them. The study also supports software development project managers to enhance the value of knowledge when they are delivering training and to equate the time spent spreading knowledge to giving team members adequate information about the clients’ domains and business models. This will be reflected in both the quality and productivity of the entire development process.
