Leadership plays a critical role in driving successful digital transformation and the adoption of e-government and information and communication technologies (ICT) in public administration. This literature review explores research on leadership for e-government and ICT, focusing on key themes, findings, challenges, and best practices. Transformational leadership, top management support, addressing resistance to change, and investing in digital skills development are identified as key factors contributing to the success of digital initiatives in government settings. Studies highlight the positive association between transformational leadership and successful e-government implementation, the importance of top management support in driving digital transformation, the role of leadership in managing resistance to change, and the significance of investing in digital skills development for government employees. Future research should continue to investigate the role of leadership in e-government and ICT, with an emphasis on identifying best practices and strategies to lead successful digital governance initiatives in the public sector. Efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy for anxiety and depression in Parkinson’s disease patients: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis

BackgroundParkinson’s disease (PD) patients often experience non-motor symptoms like depression and anxiety, significantly impacting their quality of life. With the limited effectiveness of pharmacological treatments, effective non-pharmacological interventions are needed. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in reducing depression and anxiety symptoms in PD patients.MethodsRandomized controlled trials (RCTs) exploring CBT's effectiveness for depression and anxiety in PD patients were included. Studies published until April 2023 were identified from PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus. Methodological quality was assessed using the Risk of Bias-2 (ROB-2) tool. Statistical analysis involved calculating the standardized mean difference (SMD) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using Review Manager 5.4.1.ResultsThe systematic review included 12 studies involving 241 PD patients. CBT led to a substantial reduction in anxiety (SMD -0.95, 95% CI [-1.15 to -0.74], P < 0.00001) and depression (SMD -1.02, 95% CI [-1.39 to -0.65], P < 0.0001). Both traditional CBT and tele-CBT (administered over the phone or internet) were effective in treating depression and anxiety. Traditional CBT improved depression (SMD -1.16, 95% CI [-1.83 to -0.49], P < 0.00001), while tele-CBT showed comparable results (SMD -0.90, 95% CI [-1.31 to -0.48], P < 0.00001). For anxiety, both traditional CBT (SMD -0.94, 95% CI [-1.25 to -0.63], P < 0.00001) and tele-CBT (SMD -0.95, 95% CI [-1.22 to -0.67], P < 0.00001) significantly reduced symptoms.In conclusion, this systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrated the efficacy of CBT in reducing depression and anxiety in PD patients. Healthcare providers are encouraged to integrate CBT into their treatment protocols. However, additional high-quality studies with longer-term follow-up assessments are needed to further enhance understanding in this area.Prospero RegistrationCRD42023424758.

Effectiveness of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) For Anxiety Disorders In Children and Adolescents

This paper expound on the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety disorders in children and adolescents, as well as the impact of mindfulness-based interventions on depressive symptoms in adolescents. A meta-analysis of 115 randomized controlled trials involving over 7,000 young participants revealed that CBT interventions were significantly more effective than alternatives, particularly for specific phobias. The study also found that CBT was equally effective in individual and group formats. Additionally, the paper explores how mindfulness-based interventions can improve emotion regulation skills, foster positive self-concept and self-compassion, and enhance interpersonal relationships among adolescents with depressive symptoms. Inflammatory markers changes following acceptance-based behavioral psychotherapy in generalized anxiety disorder patients: Evidence from a randomized controlled trial

IntroductionGeneralized anxiety disorder (GAD) has been associated with elevated levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and proinflammatory cytokines. Despite robust evidence as an effective treatment for GAD, research on the effects of cognitive-behavioral therapies (CBT) in the inflammatory profile of patients with clinical anxiety has presented mixed results. ObjectiveThe present study aimed to investigate the effect of an acceptance-based behavior therapy (ABBT) on inflammatory biomarkers and their association with anxiety levels in GAD patients in comparison to supportive therapy as an active control. MethodsPeripheral inflammatory biomarkers (CRP, IL-1β, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-α) were measured in 77 GAD patients who participated in a 14-week 10-session randomized clinical trial of group ABBT (experimental, n = 37) or supportive group therapy (ST: active control group, n = 40). ResultsThe concentrations of IL-1β decreased in the control group and the concentrations of IL-6 increased in the experimental group from baseline to post-treatment, whereas no difference was identified in IL-4, IL-10, TNF, or CRP. Although anxiety and depression levels decreased in both treatment conditions, no correlation with inflammation markers was found for most clinical and biological variables. A negative correlation between changes in IL-6 and IL-10 and anxiety symptom score changes was identified. ConclusionsThe present study results found that a short trial of acceptance-based behavior therapy did not change the proinflammatory profile which may be associated with GAD. Additional research is needed to evaluate the influence of other inflammation-related variables, longer periods of follow-up as well as the effect of supportive therapy on peripheral inflammatory biomarkers in GAD patients.

Comparing the Effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (TDCS) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy on Substance Craving Control and Rumination in Methamphetamine-Dependent Patients

Objective: The aim of the current study was to compare the effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (TDCS) and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy on substance craving control and rumination in methamphetamine-dependent patients. Methods and Materials: The present study, in terms of its objective, was applied research, utilizing a pre-test post-test design within a quasi-experimental research framework. The statistical population included all male patients dependent on methamphetamine who visited the Gam Addiction Treatment Clinic in Ghaemshahr city in the year 2020, from whom 45 individuals were selected through convenience sampling and randomly divided into three groups of 15 (two experimental and one control group). Participants in all three groups responded to the Drug Desire Questionnaire (DDQ) (2002) and the Hocksmann-Nolen Marw Rumination Questionnaire (1991) in three stages: pre-test, post-test, and follow-up. For the first experimental group, Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (TDCS) was applied with a maximum current intensity of 2 milliamperes, and for the second experimental group, twelve sessions of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy were conducted based on the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy protocol (Bayling, McCabe, Antony, 2011), while the control group received no treatment. Data were analyzed using SPSS statistical software. Findings: The results showed that both treatments were effective. However, the effectiveness of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (TDCS) on craving control and the effectiveness of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy on rumination were greater. Conclusion: Both treatments can be used to reduce psychological problems in methamphetamine-dependent patients.

Comparing the Efficacy of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Brief Intervention, and Combined Intervention on Reducing Social Alienation in COVID-19 Recovery Patients in Andimeshk

Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy, brief intervention, and combined intervention on social alienation among COVID-19 recovery patients in Andimeshk. Research Methods and Materials: The method used in this study was a quasi-experimental pre-test post-test design with a control group. The sample consisted of 80 COVID-19 recovery patients covered by comprehensive health centers in Andimeshk, who were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (each group containing 20 individuals). The experimental group underwent cognitive-behavioral therapy interventions in eight 90-minute sessions held weekly, while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using the Melvin Seeman Social Alienation questionnaire, and hypotheses were tested using analysis of covariance. Findings: The results showed a significant difference between the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy and brief intervention on social alienation among COVID-19 recovery patients in Andimeshk; however, no significant difference was found between the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy and the combined intervention on social alienation among these patients. Conclusion: Based on the findings, it can be concluded that cognitive-behavioral therapy is effective in reducing social alienation, and there is no difference in effectiveness between cognitive-behavioral therapy and the combined intervention (cognitive-behavioral therapy and brief intervention).

Effect of cognitive-behavioral therapy on fatigue in cancer patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Fatigue is a prevalent issue among cancer patients. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an individualized intervention that empowers patients and caregivers to actively participate in the treatment process. A recent systematic review and meta-analysis examined the impact of CBT on fatigue in cancer patients. Articles published up to April 2023 were systematically searched in Scopus, PubMed, and the Web of Science using relevant keywords. All randomized clinical trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of CBT on fatigue in cancer patients were included. Statistical analyses were conducted using Stata version 14, with a significance level set at a p-value of <0.05. The current systematic review and meta-analysis encompasses 10 RCTs. CBT demonstrated a significant reduction in fatigue scores among cancer patients [standardized mean difference (WMD): -2.50; 95%CI: -3.43, -1.56; I2 = 95.8%, p < 0.001]. This effect was consistent across all subgroup analyses. This study underscores the significant impact of CBT on fatigue in cancer patients. Further randomized clinical trials focusing on various cancer types are warranted to validate and build upon these findings.

Do patients in neurosurgical wards benefit from psychotherapy? A brief discussion on the application of cognitive-behavioural therapy in patients treated for spinal conditions

The present article reviews the existing literature on the application and effectiveness of cognitive-behavioural therapy in a group of patients with spine problems. It encompasses publications describing the use of cognitive-behavioural therapy in the treatment of patients with back pain and spinal cord injuries of various aetiologies, as well as those experiencing disabilities and difficulties in social and emotional functioning. The findings confirm that cognitive-behavioural interventions are effective in reducing the intensity of pain, improving mobility, reducing the duration of professional inactivity, facilitating adaptation to disability, and enhancing overall life satisfaction. They also support the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions in addressing depressive and anxiety disorders among these patients. It appears that both the traditional and newer approaches of cognitive-behavioural therapy offer potential in patients with spine issues and their families and caregivers. However, due to the insufficient number of randomised and controlled studies, high heterogeneity among study groups, and diversity of research protocols, it is not possible to definitive formulate final conclusions or recommendations at this stage. Nevertheless, the literature findings herein support further exploration of cognitive-behavioural therapy among patients experiencing spine problems.

This paper explores the impact of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) on ADHD symptoms in children aged 6-12 and the effectiveness of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in reducing ADHD symptoms in adolescents. The study highlights how PCIT improves parenting skills, reduces disruptive behavior, and enhances academic and social functioning in children with ADHD. For adolescents, CBT is shown to be effective in managing ADHD symptoms through cognitive restructuring and behavioral techniques. The paper also reviews multiple studies demonstrating the positive effects of CBT on inattention, impulsivity, and organizational skills in adolescents with ADHD. Effects of cognitive-behavioral therapy on core aspects of anxiety in anxious youth with autism

BackgroundAnxiety disorders (ADs) are common in youth with autism and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) may be less efficacious than among anxious youth without autism. Yet, little is known about which aspects of anxiety are targeted less effectively by CBT in youth with autism. MethodWe pooled youth with autism and ADs randomized to CBT or a control condition from five randomized controlled trials (RCTs; CBT, n = 197, Mage = 10.30 [2.05], age range: 7–16; control conditions, n = 83; Mage = 10.57 [2.30], age range: 7–16) and examined whether CBT outperformed control conditions across core aspects of anxiety and whether more pronounced autism traits predicted outcomes. CBT response in youth with autism was also compared to CBT response among anxious youth without autism (n = 129; Mage = 11.16 [2.80], age range: 7–17). ResultsCBT for youth with autism yielded significantly better effects than control conditions for frequency of symptoms, intensity of anxiety, avoidance, family interference, and social interference but not for physical symptoms of anxiety. Youth with more pronounced autism traits had poorer outcomes for frequency of symptoms, family interference, and social interference. Compared to anxious youth without autism, youth with autism had poorer outcomes for physical symptoms and family interference. ConclusionsCBT is efficacious across core aspects of anxiety for youth with autism, but outcomes for anxiety-related interference, particularly for those with more pronounced autism traits, may be poorer than among youth without autism. More work is needed to better understand how anxiety impacts the everyday lives of anxious youth with autism and which interventions and support are needed.
