The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation (Foundation) is the only charitable organization devoted exclusively to promoting nutrition and dietetics, working within the profession to provide educational opportunities and resources to empower Academy members to be global leaders in food, nutrition, and health. The Foundation has joined the Academy in celebrating the organization’s 100th anniversary by establishing the Second Century Fund, which supports initiatives that demonstrate improvements in health and well-being through the transformative power of food and nutrition. The Foundation prioritizes opportunities that align with the Academy and Foundation’s Second Century vision, and further advances the Foundation’s mission and strategic plan (listed in the Sidebar) that position the organization to take a leadership role on the global stage while maintaining its education and research efforts nationally. These efforts are achieved by investing in the current and next generation of food and nutrition practitioners through scholarships, fellowships and awards, funding of food and nutrition research and dissemination, and expansion of the Foundation’s impact through collaborations and public educational efforts. The Foundation is the largest provider of dietetic scholarships worldwide, supporting Academy members with educational opportunities at all levels of study. Over the last 3 years, the Foundation has awarded more than 1,000 Academy members with educational scholarships totaling $1.5 million dollars. The Foundation presents awards to Academy members that recognize excellence, encourage them to grow as professionals, and support the exploration of new and developing areas of food and nutrition. More than $400,000 has been awarded to Academy members over the last 3 years to acknowledge their accomplishments in the dietetic profession. The Foundation provides fellowships to Academy members, focusing on their professional development and providing them with resources and experiential learning opportunities. The Foundation has invested more than $1.25 million in fellowships, empowering Academy members to accelerate improvements in global health and well-being through food and nutrition around the globe. Foundation research grants elevate the registered dietitian nutritionist’s profile to the public by continuing to position the Academy and its members as the nutrition experts. Over the last 3 years, the Foundation has provided more than $580,000 in research grants. Kids Eat Right supports public education projects and web content that educate families on the importance of quality nutrition for kids and their families. Resources are also available for Academy members to deliver nutrition education in their communities. The Future of Food Initiative focuses on increasing awareness of the intersection of food, nutrition, and health to support sustainable food systems and a safe and nutritious food supply for the growing world population, as well as providing opportunities for our members. Although affiliated with the Academy, the Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) public charity and does not receive any portion of member dues. The success and impact of its programs and services are directly attributed to the generous support of our Academy members. Thousands of Academy members support the Foundation each year with a donation to assist these great efforts.
