Does Regional Gambling Culture Affect Long-term Corporate Operational Risk? - Empirical Evidence from Lottery Sales

The findings of this paper indicate that regional gambling culture can increase the long-term performance volatility of enterprises. The results of heterogeneity tests show that the impact of regional gambling culture on the long-term performance volatility of enterprises is more pronounced in companies with higher information asymmetry and those in regions with lower levels of marketization. This discovery of variability offers targeted suggestions for enterprises to formulate cultural industry development strategies under different economic backgrounds and industry characteristics, providing practical guidance for policymakers and corporate managers.

Research on the Application of Green Supply Chain Management: Based on SCOR Model

This paper takes Apple Inc. as the research object and explores the green supply chain management issues based on the SCOR model. By combining the SCOR model through the theoretical framework and the characteristics of Apple's supply chain, management practice suggestions are made to reveal Apple's green performance in terms of environment, resources, and social responsibility. The study results show that Apple performs better in green procurement and marketing, but is slightly inferior in green recycling storage, and transportation. This provides valuable ideas for Apple's subsequent industrial sustainable development strategy, as well as lessons and references for other companies and industries, helping to promote the green development of the entire supply chain industry. In the future, it will be a key area to continue in-depth research on promoting and optimizing green supply chain practices in different industries and enterprises of different sizes.

Forest Wellness Tourism Development Strategies Using SWOT, QSPM, and AHP: A Case Study of Chongqing Tea Mountain and Bamboo Forest in China

Forests drive tourism growth in China, offering ecologic and economic benefits over urbanization trends. Wellness tourism, aligned with UN goals, thrives in forest settings, though challenges remain, particularly in the underinvested forest regions of Western China. This study aims to identify and rank the forest wellness tourism industry development strategies for Chongqing Tea Mountain and Bamboo Forest National Park in China. The SWOT method was used to construct the strategy, while the AHP method and QSPM matrix were used to rank the selected strategies. The data used in the analysis were the survey questionnaire data of 356 individuals to construct the model to identify the strategies, and the interview data of 23 experts to rate the strategies using the Delphi method. The effectiveness of eight internal and seven external factors for forest wellness tourism was evaluated. The survey results highlight the most significant advantages of the Chongqing Tea Mountains and Bamboo Forest as being its “beautiful natural and unique scenery”, and its most significant shortcomings as its “insufficient supporting facilities and weak infrastructure”. The QSPM matrix analysis reveals that the ‘offensive strategy’ is the best. The results also emphasize the importance of “Protecting the diverse tourism resources to keep the market prospect and promote wellness industry development” in the study areas. Therefore, the potential of developing forest wellness tourism in this area should be considered and included in the agenda of policy makers to strengthen the development of forest wellness tourism, improve the economic status of the tourism of the jurisdiction, and create employment opportunities in tourism-related businesses.

Individual agency in South-South policy transfer: China and Ethiopia’s industrial park development

This article process-traces Ethiopia’s adoption and implementation of the industrial park development strategy from the mid 2000s to the late 2010s. How does policy transfer unfold, and what characterizes China’s influence on Ethiopia’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) strategy? Drawing on extensive interviews conducted during multiple field trips to Ethiopia and China between 2017 and 2023, complemented by secondary sources, we argue that policy transfer involves navigating both structural opportunities—providing incentives and resources for individuals—and individual agency to surmount structural constraints. Contributing to the growing body of literature on South-South policy transfer, our study underscores the pivotal role of individual agency in overcoming prevalent structural constraints within South-South contexts, characterized by fluid power relations and less defined policy transfer networks. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of scrutinizing the agency of host-country actors in their engagements with a rising China, rather than assuming China’s impacts in a deterministic manner. Our detailed documentation offers a nuanced perspective on China’s influence in Ethiopia’s industrialization. We show that primary agency in the policy transfer process should be attributed to Ethiopian actors, whereas the roles of Chinese actors range from initiation, facilitation, and occasionally, reluctant responses in this intricate process.

Current state and prospects for the development of the domestic pharmaceutical industry

The main stages of the development of the Russian medical and pharmaceutical industry in 2010 are presented in the context of the dominance of large foreign companies producing medicines and medical devices in the pharmaceutical market. This reflects the political and economic restrictive measures illegally taken against Russia by the European Union, the United States of America, and some other unfriendly countries and has influenced the dynamics of the development of the medical and pharmaceutical industry in our country. To harmonize approaches to the production and quality control of medicines, this paper presents the stages of large-scale reforms on the transition of the Russian pharmaceutical industry to standards of good manufacturing practice and the implementation of state programs aimed at modernizing the industrial segment of the pharmaceutical industry. As part of the improvement of the standardization system of medicines, the study also presents the characteristics of the XIII, XIV, and XV editions of the State Pharmacopoeia of the Russian Federation published during the study period, in the development of which employees of the Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov participated. The role and purpose of the creation of the developed Pharmacopoeia of the Eurasian Economic Union, approved by the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, is also reflected in this paper. This article describes the phased implementation of federal target programs, state programs, and other strategic plans and measures of nonfinancial support from the state, which have significantly expanded competencies in the field of development and production of medicines and medical devices and increased their output during the period analyzed. The development of medicines and increasing their production volumes with the help of pharmaceutical clusters, which acted as the “locomotives” of the industry, and various projects in establishing the production of innovative medical products with the help of the Industrial Development Fund, which increased the investment attractiveness of these sectors of the national economic complex, played an important role. The results revealed the essence of the changes concerning the revival of the activities of industrial pharmacies, considering a personalized approach to the treatment of patients. The study also presents an assessment of the Pharmaceutical industry Development Strategy for the period up to 2030.

Development, challenges and strategies of natural gas industry under carbon neutral target in China

In the mid-21st century, natural gas will enter its golden age, and the era of natural gas is arriving. This paper reviews the development stages of global natural gas industry and the enlightenment of American shale gas revolution, summarizes the development history and achievements of the natural gas industry in China, analyzes the status and challenges of natural gas in the green and low-carbon energy transition, and puts forward the natural gas industry development strategies under carbon neutral target in China. The natural gas industry in China has experienced three periods: start, growth, and leap forward. At present, China has become the fourth largest natural gas producer and third largest natural gas consumer in the world, and has made great achievements in natural gas exploration and development theory and technology, providing important support for the growth of production and reserves. China has set its goal of carbon neutrality to promote green and sustainable development, which brings opportunities and challenges for natural gas industry. Natural gas has significant low-carbon advantages, and gas-electric peak shaving boosts new energy development; the difficulty and cost of development are more prominent. For the national energy security and harmonious development between economy and ecology under the carbon neutral goal, based on the principle of “comprehensive planning, technological innovation, multi-energy complementarity, diversified integration, flexibility and efficiency, optimization and upgrading”, the construction of the production-supply- storage-marketing system has to be improved so as to boost the development of the natural gas industry. First, it is necessary to strengthen efforts in the exploration and development of natural gas, making projects and arrangement in key exploration and development areas, meanwhile, it is urgent to make breakthroughs in key science theories and technologies, so as to increase reserve and production. Second, it should promote green and innovative development of the natural gas by developing new techniques, expanding new fields and integrating with new energy. Third, there is a demand to realize transformation and upgrading of the supply and demand structure of natural gas by strengthening the layout of pipeline gas, liquefied natural gas and the construction of underground gas storage, establishing reserve system for improving abilities of emergency response and adjustment, raising the proportion of natural gas in the primary energy consumption and contributing to the transformation of energy consumption structure, realizing low-carbon resources utilization and clean energy consumption.

Implication of 4th Industrial Revolution on Tax Revenue Collection in Tanzania: A Case of Manufacturing Industries

The study assessed the implication of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) on tax revenue collection in Tanzania. Specifically, the study set out to establish the causality of investment in 4IR technologies, on manufacturing industries’ Value Added Tax (VAT); determine the influence of investment in 4IR technologies on manufacturing industries’ Corporate Tax and examine the effects of investment in 4IR technologies on manufacturing industries’ Employment Tax (PAYE). To achieve the research objectives, the study used a quantitative descriptive design to generate the required data. Moreover, the study used structured questionnaires for cross-sectional survey, administered with 225 production managers of manufacturing industries in Tanzania. It used probability sampling in the form of cluster sampling. Additionally, the study used the Least Square method to analyse the objectives of the study in addition to testing the hypotheses. The study found a positive and statistically significant causal effect between investment in modern technology, VAT, Corporate tax and Employment Tax (PAYE) of manufacturing firms in Tanzania, for the period under study. Implicitly, the emergence of 4IR does not necessarily occasion a decline in tax revenue collections (VAT, PAYE, and Corporate Tax) on the part of manufacturing firms in developing countries endowed with resources, like Tanzania, but rather complements and accelerates its growth. Thus, the study calls on the Tanzania Government to review and improve its Sustainable Industrial Development Policy of 2020 and the Integrated Industrial Development Strategy of 2025 to embrace, promote and support not only resource-based industries, but also technological based industries, to speed up industrialization within the country and ultimately improve and increase tax revenue collection. The government should also improve its investment policies and align them with technological changes brought by 4IR, to attract more foreign direct investments, importation and adaptation of 4IR technologies from developed countries that enhance productivity, turnover and tax revenue collections from the manufacturing sector.

Prospects for the Development of Vehicle Assembly Plants of Chinese Automobile Brands in Kazakhstan: An Example of Multi-Sectoral Diversification of the Economy to Increase Its Sustainability

This article discusses the problems that arise and must be resolved in order to ensure the efficiency and sustainability of Chinese-brand automobile assembly in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is shown as a model of an oil-driven economy seeking industrial modernization and the most dynamic car assembly case in Central Asia in the past 5 years. Since the automotive industry development strategies in different countries have various specific characteristics and provide an overview of the main global and regional trends in the development of the automotive industry, the problems of industry development also leverage the accumulated experiences of different countries where government initiatives have fostered the growth of their domestic automotive industry. Although we use standard and well-proven methods of analysis, planning, and forecasting, the novelty of the approach lies in the fact that any new company entering the market and opening a new production facility should focus on maintaining the sustainability of the country’s automotive industry within the framework of the adopted industry development strategy. We have developed such an algorithm for planning a strategy. The blend of traditional methodologies and their adaptation makes the suggested methodology new. We also considered the fact that, due to a lack of knowledge, there are significant challenges when determining whether localizing automobile components is feasible. An assessment of the prospects for the automotive industry in Kazakhstan based on data from open sourcesmade it possible to develop options for possible strategies from which the most appropriate one can be selected. The conclusion chapter presents findings, limitations of the study, and directions for future research. The use of this approach allows for considering the interplay of the factors at the stage of an industry development strategy emerging and establishing long-term plans that take into account the specific characteristics of Kazakhstan’s development.

Resource base of the building materials industry as the basis for sustainable development of the economy

The study of the resource base impact on the development of building materials industry economy is presented. The proposed analysis showed the need to synchronise intersectoral interactions aimed at the progressive development of the construction industry. The suggested approach to the formation of a mechanism for sustainable development predetermines the business model within the framework of sustainable development concept and the opportunities, the emergence of which is due to digitalisation of industrial relations. In the study, the author defines the contexts that form the approach to sustainability of development. It is offered to consider the given phenomenon in the economic context through the reproduction component. The offer made it possible to formulate an approach to the creation of a mechanism for this occurrence based on the resource potential formation, the use of which should lead to increasing returns when changing a business model of a set of enterprises. The mentioned model of interaction between enterprises is oriented towards sustainable industrial development, contributes to application of new approaches to reproduction of basic funds, distribution of resources and resource base formation. The usage of the ecosystem approach while considering the issue of sustainable economic development of building materials industry stipulated interaction of related sectors as the main priority. This is done to increase competitiveness and provide the strategy of building materials industry development.

Measurement of Carbon Total Factor Productivity in the Context of Carbon–Electricity Market Collaboration: An Application of Biennial Luenberger Productivity Index

China’s industrial sector generally relies on electricity as its main source of energy, and industrial production can be affected if there are problems with the electricity supply. In order to deal with the uncertain electricity supply and achieve the “dual carbon” target, the industrial sector needs to take effective measures to enhance carbon total factor productivity (CTFP). We use the biennial Luenberger productivity index (BLPI) to try to provide strategies for low-carbon industrial development in China. The results indicate that the overall CTFP of China’s industrial sector showed an increasing trend from 2006 to 2019. Technology change was the main contributor to the change in CTFP, but fluctuations in efficiency change remained a challenge. Differences were observed between the light industry sector (LIS) and the heavy industry sector (HIS) in terms of changes in CTFP, with LIS showing more stable changes and HIS experiencing larger fluctuations. Most sub-sectors showed increased CTFP during the sample period. R&D investment and R&D personnel have a positive impact on CTFP, while energy structure is found to hinder CTFP. According to the research results of this study, we offer the corresponding policy implications. This study is the first to explore the balance between low-carbon goals and industrial production from the perspective of improving CTFP, providing a new viewpoint on the contributions of technological innovation to solving socio-economic issues.

Delphi Method for Prioritizing Halal Industry Development Strategies in Indonesia

This study aims to determine the priority of halal Industrial Strategy in Indonesia with the Delphi qualitative method. The data used are the results of interviews with academics, practitioners and Islamic economics in general. The total number of expert respondents is 11 experts. Based on the results of the study, in general, of the 8 Strategy variables, all variables have been agreed upon by experts to determine the development strategy of the halal industry in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the order of the most important variables of the Halal Industry Strategy in Indonesia are: (1) Strengthening Regulation & Policies, (2) Building Halal Life Style (3) Strengthening HR Capacity, (4) Holistic Halal Value Chain, (4) Scaling Up Halal Fund and Product Innovation, (4) Sharia Financial Literacy and Inclusion, (7) Halal Research Development, (8) Strengthening Industry and Capacity.

Development strategy of early childhood music education industry: An IFS-AHP-SWOT analysis based on dynamic social network.

Early childhood music education has garnered recognition for its unique contribution to cognitive, emotional, and social development in children. Nevertheless, the industry grapples with numerous challenges, including a struggle to adapt traditional educational paradigms to new curriculum reforms, and an excessive emphasis on skill training at the expense of nurturing a love for music and aesthetics in children. To navigate these challenges and explore growth strategies for the early childhood music education industry, we initiated a comprehensive approach that involved distributing surveys to practitioners and parents and engaging experts for insightful discussions. Consequently, we proposed an analytical method based on dynamic social networks in conjunction with Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets (IFS), Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis, collectively referred to as IFS-AHP-SWOT. This integrated methodology synergizes the capabilities of dynamic social networks, IFS, AHP, and SWOT analysis to offer a nuanced perspective on industry development strategies. The findings underscore that institutions within the early childhood music education industry need to adopt a development strategy that leverages their strengths and opportunities to foster sustainable growth. Ultimately, this research aims to provide critical decision-making support for industry practitioners, policymakers, and researchers, contributing significantly to the ongoing discourse on strategic development in the early childhood music education industry.

This study leverages CiteSpace to create a keyword co-occurrence network for camping site research, aiming to outline the current state and development trends in this field, both globally and in China. The analysis highlights that international research focuses on camper behaviors, experiences, and the ecological and managerial aspects of camping sites. In contrast, Chinese research centers on industry status, market positioning, and development strategies, with a greater emphasis on specific site planning and management. The study reveals a notable gap between Chinese and international research in terms of breadth and depth. Chinese studies are predominantly qualitative and lack a focus on ecological and humanistic considerations, leading to limited generalizability of findings. This comparison underscores the need for a more integrated and quantitative approach in Chinese camping site research, aligning with global standards and incorporating a stronger emphasis on ecological preservation and humanistic values.

Developing Halal Industry in Indonesia using Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM)

Halal industry has become a popular object and the latest trends in the world of international business. Not only in Indonesia but also Malaysia, Thailand even Europe began to glance at the potential and opportunities for halal industry. The phenomenon that began to develop halal industry in recent years is quite the attention of businesses and consumers themselves. Labeling "halal" or "sharia" on a product, not again become a form of obligation or obedience to a Muslim but has become the strength of a strong market, which not only as a guarantee of the products that are allowed for a Muslim but also a symbol of the global for quality assurance and a lifestyle choice. In previous studies, many researchers were interested in examining issues about the potential of halal industry, while very few researchers discuss the problems of the development of halal industry in Indonesia. Though research on the obstacles and development strategies of halal industry is needed to accelerate the development of halal industry in Indonesia. Based on this problem, which is taken from the study of literature, previous research and indepth interviews with academicians and practitioners, some issues in the development of the halal industry in Indonesia is divided into five aspects: 1) Policy, 2) Production, 3) Socialization, 4) Infrastructure, and 5) Human Resources.

Halal Industry Development Strategies Based on Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises for Rendang Entrepreneurs in Payakumbuh

West Sumatra has much potential for culinary development in Indonesia. One of the famous food products is rendang. According to CNN, this product has gone global and is the most delicious food globally. In the context of culinary tourism development, Payakumbuh is one of the cities that contributes to the development of culinary businesses, especially rendang. A rendang village in Payakumbuh is a collection of several Small and Medium Enterprises promoting rendang businesses. Rendang entrepreneurs in Payakumbuh also play a role in accelerating the halal industry in their area. Rendang sales can also be accepted by consumers and sent to several regions in Indonesia and even the world. It aligns with Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantees. However, there are also many obstacles faced by rendang entrepreneurs in Payakumbuh in developing their businesses: limited capital, weak managerial skills, and marketing constraints. This research aims to discover rendang entrepreneurs' strategies to develop the halal industry. The method used is qualitative analysis. Next, the analysis technique used is SWOT analysis. Several steps can be taken to optimize rendang sales, including consumer awareness, halal services, digital marketing and supporting services. The government needs to support the development of the halal industry in Indonesia.

СТАН ТА ПЕРСПЕКТИВИ РОЗВИТКУ ПРОТЕЗНОЇ ГАЛУЗІ В УКРАЇНІ В КОНТЕКСТІ ВИКОНАННЯ ЗАВДАНЬ СОЦІАЛЬНОЇ ПОЛІТИКИ ВОЄННОГО ЧАСУ

The consequence of any war is the appearance of a large number of injured civilians and military personnel. In 2009, Ukraine signed the UN Convention "On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" and confirmed guarantees regarding the provision of persons with disabilities with rehabilitation aids and their social inclusion. The purpose of the article is to highlight the results of the research, which are related to the state policy of development of the field of prosthetics in the context of ensuring the rights of people with disabilities, their rehabilitation and social inclusion. The relevance of the problem under consideration is determined by the fact that in 2022-2023, the number of injured civilians in Ukraine increased by 15%, the military - by five times, and the organization of the activities of prosthetic and orthopedic enterprises does not allow to fully satisfy the needs in prosthetics. The research methodology was based on the use of such methods as: content analysis (to identify the main content of legal acts on providing persons with disabilities with technical and other means of rehabilitation), abstraction - in order to highlight the most essential characteristics of the development of the prosthetics and orthopedics industry, systematization, which made it possible to organize and bring to a certain degree of coherence the state policy measures necessary to ensure the development of the field of prosthetics. The tasks of the state in the context of the implementation of social policy are measures aimed at the development of the prosthetic and orthopedic industry and the establishment of a system of rehabilitation of people affected by the war. In order to streamline the system of prosthetics for people with disabilities, improve the quality of prosthetics and rational use of budget funds, in 2014 the government liquidated "Ukrprotez" as an intermediary in the distribution of financial resources. The next stage of the reorganization of the network of prosthetic and orthopedic enterprises was the transformation of state-owned enterprises into state-owned commercial ones. The practical significance of the article lies in the substantiation of the set of measures necessary for the reorganization and development of enterprises in the prosthetics industry, including issues of a strategic nature that require the development of an appropriate Strategy. The industry development strategy, in turn, should include decisions on organizational, technological, personnel, and economic issues of ensuring the effective operation of prosthetic and orthopedic enterprises.
