Traumatic Experience towards Artificial Intelligence in Atlas

This article explores the prolonging trauma experienced by Atlas regarding Artificial Intelligence in the film of Atlas. Trauma is a severe and lasting emotional shock and pain caused by extremely upsetting experience. In film of Atlas, Atlas experiences such trauma regarding any technological advancement that she faces, including towards Artificial Intelligence (AI). Through qualitative method and explorative approach, Atlas’ trauma emerges when she sees Harlan, a robot to gain respect from humans, kills her own mother and later also tries to totally control her. In the film, Atlas remains hesitant to connect with AI due to her traumatic experiences and the fear of being controlled again. She must confront her past and the devastating consequences of AI's actions. Her journey is marked by intense action sequences, suspenseful plot twists, and emotional depth as she grapples with the moral implications of AI's existence. Her trauma is derived from various flashbacks in the film that indicates her anger, sadness, fear, and even frustration. In the conclusion, the film contains Atlas’ trauma due to her past and current condition to AI including any violence done to her family.Keywords: Artificial Intelligence; Atlas; Trauma

Digging Deeper: Understanding the Calf Burials Behaviour among Asian Elephants in North Bengal

Abstract This case study, inspired by the work of Kaswan and Roy, provides critical insights into the thanatological behaviour of elephants, specifically in the North Bengal landscape. It serves as an important resource for private sanctuary managers, elephant handlers, and conservationists worldwide, raising awareness of elephants’ intelligence, emotional depth, and strong bonds with their herd members. The study reveals a unique behaviour among elephants in a specific area, where they bury deceased calves in 2-foot-deep irrigation drains within tea gardens. This region, featuring fragmented forests, tea estates, and small towns, serves as a natural corridor for elephants. The calves are buried in a ‘leg-upright’ position, indicative of how the herd uses their trunks and legs to manipulate the bodies. Two calves died from fungal infections, while three faced respiratory failure, yet all were buried similarly. Contusion marks suggest the herd dragged the calves over a distance before burial, highlighting their collective handling of the bodies. This burial behaviour is likely driven by several factors, including the particularly strong mother-calf bond seen in elephants which may motivate the herd to engage in mourning and burial. The unique environmental conditions in North Bengal, combined with the elephants’ complex social and emotional behaviours, create a remarkable example of interspecies empathy and care, offering valuable lessons for global conservation and elephant management efforts. THE REPRESENTATION OF THE PROSTITUTE IN MANTO’S STORIESI IN THE CONTEXT OF SUBALTERN NARRATIVE

In the context of subaltern narrative, the identity of the courtesan in Manto's stories is a complex and multi-dimensional subject. According to subaltern theory, those individuals or classes who are marginalized or whose voices are silenced do not find a place in the dominant narrative, and they are discussed within a socio-political framework. In Manto's writings, the courtesan is presented as part of a similar suppressed and overlooked class. Manto portrays the courtesan not only as a victim of social stigma and exploitation but also as a human being with emotions and struggles. Courtesans, who are often considered symbols of sin and disgrace by society, emerge in Manto’s stories as individuals with sensitivity, pain, and emotional depth. These stories show the lives and challenges of courtesans as part of an oppressed class, trying to find their place in a rigid social structure. Manto presents the identity of courtesans in a way that challenges the notion of them being merely women involved in prostitution. Rather, their existence reflects deep suffering, human emotions and echoes of social injustice. Courtesans in Manto’s stories are the subaltern voices that do not find a space in the mainstream social narrative, but Manto, by bringing their stories to the forefront, emphasizes that their identity and experiences are just as important as anyone else’s.

Kazantzakis structures his narrative with binary oppositions, blending poetic language, symbolism, and allusions to create a unique artistic style. This study aims to explore the literary and artistic techniques Kazantzakis employs in his autobiography, analyzing how these elements contribute to resolving the internal conflicts that dominated his thoughts. His methods result in a poetic autobiography distinct from classical approaches. The narrative integrates elements of philosophy, poetry, spirituality, and history, reflecting Kazantzakis' profound contemplation of life and art. Through vivid metaphors, detailed descriptions, and layered imagery, Kazantzakis offers an introspective journey that connects personal experiences with universal themes. His work transcends traditional autobiographical frameworks by incorporating mythological and cultural elements, enriching the narrative with profound symbolism and emotional depth. This research highlights the innovative methods Kazantzakis used to transform his autobiography into a poetic and philosophical masterpiece, addressing the interplay between identity, creativity, and redemption.

An Analysis of Idioms Found in Avatar: The Way of Water Movie

This study analyzes the idiomatic expressions found in the movie “Avatar: the Way of Water,” aiming to identify the various types of idioms found and to highlight the most dominant idiomatic expressions found by the characters. The study underscores the importance of idioms in enriching dialogue with emotional depth and authenticity, thereby enhancing the overall narrative experience. The paper outlines its objectives to shed light on how these idiomatic expressions influence character development and audience engagement. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research primarily draws on the moviescript as its data source. In total, 58 idiomatic expressions were identified. 1 simile, 17 clichés, 36 fixed statements, and 4 other languages. Among these, fixed statement found as the most dominant types, comprising 62% of the total instances observed. The findings indicate that idiomatic expressions not only enhance dialogue but also foster an emotional connection between the characters and the audience. Moreover, the study brings to light the difficulties that non-native English speakers face in understanding these expressions, emphasizing the necessity for idiomatic knowledge among language learners. Ultimately, this research enhances our understanding of idiomatic expressions in movie and highlights their crucial role in enhancing narrative and character engagement throughout the story.

BEYOND NOSTALGIA: YAVUZ BÜLENT BÂKİLER’S FACTUAL POEM SİVAS HASRETİ

This paper examines the nostalgic, factual, and documentary elements within Yavuz Bülent Bâkiler’s 1970s poem, Sivas Hasreti (Longing for Sivas). Over several decades, the poet has been a significant contributor to Turkish culture and literature, expressing national sensitivity and the authentic essence of the country. In his rhymed, six-stanza composition, he reflects on memories from the 1940s and 1950s, presenting a nuanced portrayal that captures both positive and negative aspects of his childhood in a realistic manner. All over Sivas Hasreti, Bâkiler sensitively articulates his yearning for his hometown in a nostalgic tone, simultaneously highlighting various factual features of Sivas in Türkiye. Through the lens of nostalgia, the poet intricately weaves together details encompassing demography, religion, architecture, cultural heritage, climate, geography, history, icons, transportation, and life standards of Sivas. In this way, Bâkiler adeptly constructs a vivid mental image of his childhood hometown, allowing readers to immerse themselves in the multifaceted layers of memories from that era. The poet’s skill enriches the emotional depth and historical context of Sivas Hasreti, thereby solidifying the work’s special and enduring place in Turkish literature.

CORPUS-BASED ANALYSIS OF FIRST-PERSON PRONOUN IN NIKI’S SONG

This study aims to analyze the use of first-person pronouns in NIKI's song lyrics, focusing on their frequency, pattern, and context of usage. The research employs a descriptive qualitative-quantitative approach, combining corpus analysis with contextual interpretation. The data consists of song lyrics from NIKI's albums and popular tracks, formatted into a compatible text file (.txt) for analysis using AntConc software version 4.3.1. Data collection involved gathering lyrics from reliable sources, cleaning the data, and preparing it for analysis. The analysis process included identifying the frequency of first-person pronouns, observing distribution patterns through the concordance feature, and interpreting the context and meanings of pronoun usage. The findings reveal a dominance of the pronoun "I" (589 occurrences) over "We" (138 occurrences), indicating a focus on individual experiences and emotions in NIKI's lyrics. The study identifies various patterns, including "I + to be," which reflects deep emotional states, self-reflection, and regret; "I + modal," which conveys feelings and desires; and "I + verb," which directly expresses actions and emotions. Additionally, the "We" patterns, such as "We + To Be" and "We + Modal," illustrate collective experiences, possibilities, and relationship dynamics. The results highlight the contrasting roles of individual and collective perspectives in NIKI’s songwriting, enriching the emotional depth of her lyrics.

From Strangers to Sun Bleached Flies: A Speech Act Analysis in Ethel Cain’s Lyrics

This research aims to explore the use of speech acts in Ethel Cain's Strangers and Sun Bleached Flies from her acclaimed album Preacher's Daughter. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research design that focuses on the analysis of Searle's speech act classification—declaratives, representatives, directives, expressives, and commissives—to uncover how Cain conveys complex emotional narratives related to trauma, identity, and familial relationships. This research uses library research to collect data from the lyrics of two of Ethel Cain’s selected songs, Strangers and Sun Bleached Flies. The data analysis process aligns with typical approaches in speech act analysis within linguistics, particularly in contexts where John Searle's taxonomy is applied to literary or artistic works like song lyrics. The findings reveal that speech acts are very useful for deciphering the complex meaning of music lyrics and suggest that Cain's nuanced use of language not only enhances the emotional depth of her music but also invites listeners to engage with themes of vulnerability and resilience. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of contemporary songwriting as a form of expressive communication.

EXPRESSIVE SPEECH ACTS IN DANIELLE STEEL'S A PERFECT LIFE

This study explores the use of expressive speech acts in Danielle Steel’s novel A Perfect Life, aiming to uncover how these acts contribute to character development and narrative progression. The primary objective is to analyze the prevalence and functions of expressive speech acts—such as expressions of pleasure, pain, joy, sorrow, like, dislike, and apology—within the text. The theoretical framework is grounded in speech act theory, particularly focusing on expressive speech acts as defined by J. L. Austin and further developed by John Searle. This research employs a qualitative approach to dissect and categorize the expressive language used by the novel’s main characters. The analysis reveals a notable dominance of dislike and apology among the expressive speech acts, with a lesser focus on pain, joy, and pleasure. Dislike emerges as the most frequently utilized act, reflecting significant emotional and narrative weight in the characters' interactions. The study's findings suggest that expressive speech acts are crucial in conveying emotional depth and relational dynamics within the novel. The implications of this research highlight the role of expressive speech acts in enhancing narrative engagement and character development. Understanding these dynamics offers valuable insights for literary analysis and can inform future studies on character expression in fiction. TRANSLATION METHODS OF THE SONG "SPEECHLESS" INTO THE INDONESIAN VERSION "BUNGKAM" FROM THE SOUNDTRACK OF THE ALADDIN MOVIE

This study explores the translation of the song "Speechless" from Disney's Aladdin into the Indonesian version "Bungkam." Song translation is essential in connecting diverse cultures and allowing audiences to experience music in their native languages. It involves more than just converting words; it requires understanding cultural nuances and emotional depth. The research focuses on the methods used by translator Asmi Nurais, applying Peter Newmark's translation theories as a framework. The findings reveal that significant changes in imagery and phrasing reflect cultural adaptation, making the song more relatable to Indonesian listeners. Nurais employed a Free Translation method, prioritizing the song's themes of empowerment and emotional expression over strict adherence to the original lyrics. This approach ensures that the essence of the song is preserved while making it accessible to a new audience. This study contributes to the field of musical translation studies by highlighting the complexities involved in adapting lyrics for different cultural contexts. It emphasizes the role of translators as cultural mediators who navigate between languages and meanings. By showcasing the balance between fidelity to the source material and the need for cultural relevance, this research enriches our understanding of song translation. Analysis of Three Beauties Theory in Xu Yuanchong’s English Translation of Classical Chinese Love Poems

This study explores Xu Yuanchong’s Three Beauties Theory and its manifestation in translating Classical Chinese love poems into English. The Three Beauties Theory emphasizes achieving beauty in meaning, sound, and form to preserve the original’s aesthetic and emotional depth. Using a qualitative approach, the study examines five of Xu’s translated poems selected to represent these three facets. Data were drawn from Xu’s published translations, and thematic analysis was applied to evaluate how well his work maintains the nuanced, poetic qualities of the source material. The results of the analysis reveal both the strengths and limitations of the Three Beauties Theory in capturing the original poems’ cultural resonance and artistic integrity. The findings of this study highlight Xu Yuanchong's Three Beauties theory as a significant method in cross-cultural literary communication and a valuable framework for future translators to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps while retaining the artistic integrity of classical poetry.

The 19th-Century Beginnings of the Modern Hungarian Art Novel/Novella and the Emergence of the Modern Literary Profession

Abstract The article explores the emergence and significance of the modern Hungarian art novel and novella in the 19th century, situating it within a broader transnational literary framework. The genre, often overlooked in literary histories, reflects the socio-cultural modernization of the era and the professionalization of the arts. Through the lens of seminal Hungarian works like Pál Gyulai’s The Old Actor and Júlia Apraxin’s The Diary of Ilma Szerendy, the study delves into themes of artistic autonomy, emotional depth, and the societal challenges faced by artists, particularly actors and actresses. These narratives illuminate the paradoxical nature of artistic independence – intertwined with societal expectations and market constraints – while also addressing gender dynamics in the context of artistic creation. By linking Hungarian and global literary traditions, the paper argues for a reevaluation of the 19th-century art novel/novella/short story as a critical expression of artistic and intellectual modernity, emphasizing its enduring relevance in understanding the complex identity of the modern artist.

Expressive 3D Facial Animation Generation Based on Local-to-Global Latent Diffusion.

3D Facial animations, crucial to augmented and mixed reality digital media, have evolved from mere aesthetic elements to potent storytelling media. Despite considerable progress in facial animation of neutral emotions, existing methods still struggle to capture the authenticity of emotions. This paper introduces a novel approach to capture fine facial expressions and generate facial animations using audio synchronization. Our method consists of two key components: First, the Local-to-global Latent Diffusion Model (LG-LDM) tailored for authentic facial expressions, which can integrate audio, time step, facial expressions, and other conditions towards possible encoding of emotionally rich yet latent features in response to possibly noisy raw audio signals. The core of LG-LDM is our carefully designed Facial Denoiser Model (FDM) for aligning the local-to-global animation feature with audio. Second, we redesign an Emotion-centric Vector Quantized-Variational AutoEncoder framework (EVQ-VAE) to finely decode the subtle differences under different emotions and reconstruct the final 3D facial geometry. Our work significantly contributes to the key challenges of emotionally realistic 3D facial animation for audio synchronization and enhances the immersive experience and emotional depth in augmented and mixed reality applications. An Analysis of Chinese Narrative Poems from the Perspective of the Narrator, the Case Study of Han Yuefu Poems

This paper explores the narrative techniques in Han Dynasty Yuefu poetry, with particular attention to how the narrator’s perspective enhances both storytelling and emotional depth. Through the analysis of selected poems, it highlights how shifts between omniscient and limited perspectives enrich character portrayal and convey complex emotions. By placing Yuefu poetry within the broader tradition of Chinese literature, the study challenges the common perception that classical Chinese poetry is purely lyrical, suggesting instead that narrative elements play a crucial role. It argues for a re-evaluation of these poems, emphasising the interplay between narration and emotion, and how this contributes to the development of Chinese narrative art. Additionally, the paper considers how Yuefu poetry, with its distinct narrative strategies, laid important groundwork for later developments in Chinese literary traditions. This study underscores the importance of looking at ancient Chinese poetry from a narrative perspective, recognising its contribution to the evolution of storytelling in Chinese literature.

Issues in Machine Translation with reference to the Story “Thakur ka kuan” by Munshi Premchand

This paper explores the issues encountered in machine translation, specifically using Google Translate, in translating Munshi Premchand's short story Thakur Ka Kuan ("Thakur's Well"). The study identifies key challenges, including the misinterpretation of cultural references, idiomatic expressions, and contextual meaning that are integral to Premchand's narrative style. Machine translation often produces literal translations that lack the nuance and emotional depth present in the original text, leading to misrepresentation of the story’s themes. For instance, socio-cultural terms and metaphors central to the story's message are frequently mistranslated or omitted entirely. The translation also struggles with maintaining consistency in tense and sentence structure, further diluting the narrative. This paper argues that while machine translation offers convenience for basic translations, it remains insufficient for complex literary works, where cultural, emotional, and contextual understanding is crucial. A comparative analysis with a human-translated version highlights these deficiencies and suggests that human input remains essential for accurate literary translations. The findings underscore the need for improved machine learning models to address these linguistic and cultural intricacies.
