Aim To identify the ideal calf circumference (CC) cutoff point for screening for sarcopenia in community-dwelling older Brazilians. Methods Cross-sectional study of 778 community-dwelling older adults (age: 69.7 ± 6.7 for non-sarcopenic group and 74.2 ± 8.4 for sarcopenic, female 68.8% in non-sarcopenic group). Sarcopenia status was determined using the criteria of the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People 2019, and CC was measured. The CC cutoff point was established using the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve. Results The prevalence of sarcopenia was 7.6%. The determined calf circumference cutoff point for sarcopenia was 30 cm for women, and 31 cm for men, with an AUC of 0.83. Conclusions It is possible to screen for sarcopenia in older community-dwelling Brazilians using calf circumference cutoff points of 31 cm for men and 30 cm for women.
