The article studies the semantics of the English phraseological units that contain components from the thematic group «kitchenware» and also singles out the most common components – the names of the items of cutlery in the phraseological units. The relevance of studying this group of phraseological units, which has not yet been the subject of a separate study, is conditioned by the fact that preparing and eating food are the important parts of the cultural code of any people, encrypted, among other things, with the help of phraseological units of the language. Kitchenware being are tools, means and tools for preparing, consuming and aestheticizing the process of food consumption, contribute to the formation of cultural values of a linguistic community which are expressed, among other things, in the aesthetic and ethical norms of human behavior. Unlike linguistic units of other levels, phraseological units being units of secondary nomination, do not only contain accumulated information about the situations and events that occurred throughout the cultural and historical development of a particular linguistic community, but are also the building material of the secondary picture of the world. The semantics of phraseological units is a vivid expression of the national uniqueness of the linguistic picture of the world. As a result of the study, we divided the selected phraseological units into such phraseological groups as «versatility of human activity», «appearance, character and mental characteristics of a person», «financial situation of a person», «alcohol consumption and the consequences of this use», «food intake and consequences its intake», «various life situations». As a result of a quantitative analysis of the representation of components-names of utensils in phraseological units, we came to the conclusion that the most common components in phraseological units are the lexemes pot (26% of the studied units), bottle (14.5%), knife (13%), plate (10%), spoon (9%). We associate the prevalence of these components with the special role of the kitchen utensils, designated by the corresponding lexemes, in particular, a pot is a container for both cooking and storing food, a bottle is a container for drinks, which are also are included in the gluttonic sphere of human life, and a plate (plate) and a spoon (spoon) are the most important tools for eating. It was also revealed that the leading structural-semantic types of the studied phraseological units were nominative-communicative units (60% of the studied phraseological units) and nominative phraseological units (28% of the studied units).
