Radiation is the most dominant mechanism for heat transfer in the Czochralski crystal growth apparatus. In order to account for the detailed radiation interaction among the various surfaces, a knowledge of the view factors among the various surfaces is necessary. These factors are not available especially for short crystal heights during the initial growth. In this paper a detailed calculation procedure for all the necessary view factors is presented. The view factors that account for the proper shape of the melt surface (including the meniscus at the crystal edge) and the view factors during the neck and shoulder growth are discussed. This work provides a key sub-element in developing quantitative models for Czochralski growth.
