Food preference of the Calliteara cerigoides Walker on several species of Shorea sp. leaves

Shorea sp. (meranti) is a wood-producing tree from Indonesia that has many benefits in world trade. Meranti cultivation is carried out to rehabilitate and develop plantation forests. However, meranti cultivation is susceptible to various pest attacks, including Calliteara cerigoides. This study aimed to determine the food preferences of C. cerigoides and to analyze the phytochemical compounds in meranti leaves. Pest food preferences were tested by testing three meranti leaf species on C. cerigoides larvae. Three species of meranti were Shorea selanica, S. pinanga, and Shorea sp. Phytochemical tests were carried out by identifying seven secondary metabolic compounds in meranti leaves. The results showed that C. cerigoides larvae preferred S. selanica leaves and survived until the seventh instar. The content of tannin and hydroquinone phenolic compounds in the leaves of S. pinanga is thought to be an obstacle in the pest’s food preference, causing the larvae to die in the third instar. The content of alkaloid and flavonoid compounds in the leaves of Shorea sp. was suspected to be the cause of the larvae not surviving until the instar phase and only until the fourth instar. Morphological factors and the content of chemical compounds in meranti leaves affect the eating preferences of larvae.

Exploring the antioxidant and antimicrobial potential of Chelidonium majus extracts against oral microorganisms

Chelidonium majus (Papaveraceae) is a widely utilized medicinal plant species known for its various effective biological activities. This study investigated the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of C. majus against oral microorganisms. To assess its biological activities, C. majus fractions were obtained using 80% methanol, n-hexane, ethyl acetate (EtOAc), butanol, and water. Antioxidant assays, including DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging tests, as well as total polyphenol and flavonoid content determination, were conducted. Notably, the EtOAc fraction exhibited the highest antioxidant activity than that of the other fractions, both in terms of DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities. Furthermore, it contained the highest contents of phenolic and flavonoid compounds in the EtOAc extract (212.00 mg CAE/g, 135.70 mg NE/g). In addition, antimicrobial assays using various antimicrobial tests against oral microorganisms, namely Streptococcus mutans, S. gordonii, S. sobrinus, and S. sanguinis, were conducted to investigate the antibacterial effect, revealing that the EtOAc fraction showed the greatest inhibition. Furthermore, LC-MS analysis of the EtOAc fraction identified biologically active compounds, including phenolic compounds such as fisetin, quercetin, and coumaroylimalic acid. Based on these findings, C. majus, with its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, is a promising candidate for improving oral health.

Enhancing rutin accumulation in Tartary buckwheat through a novel flavonoid transporter protein FtABCC2

Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) is an annual coarse cereal from the Polygonaceae family, known for its high content of flavonoid compounds, particularly rutin. But so far, the mechanisms of the flavonoid transport and storage in Tartary buckwheat (TB) remain largely unexplored. This study focuses on ATP-binding cassette transporters subfamily C (ABCC) members, which are crucial for the biosynthesis and transport of flavonoids in plants. The evolutionary and expression pattern analyses of the ABCC genes in TB identified an ABCC protein gene, FtABCC2, that is highly correlated with rutin synthesis. Subcellular localization analysis revealed that FtABCC2 protein is specifically localized to the vacuole membrane. Heterologous expression of FtABCC2 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae confirmed that its transport ability of flavonoid glycosides such as rutin and isoquercetin, but not the aglycones such as quercetin and dihydroquercetin. Overexpression of FtABCC2 in TB hairy root lines resulted in a significant increase in total flavonoid and rutin content (P < 0.01). Analysis of the FtABCC2 promoter revealed potential cis-acting elements responsive to hormones, cold stress, mechanical injury and light stress. Overall, this study demonstrates that FtABCC2 can efficiently facilitate the transport of rutin into vacuoles, thereby enhancing flavonoids accumulation. These findings suggest that FtABCC2 is a promising candidate for molecular-assisted breeding aimed at developing high-flavonoid TB varieties.

The Antityrosinase Activity of Mitragyna speciosa Korth Leaf Ethanolic Extract

The kratom plant (Mitragyna speciosa Korth) is a the plant that is traditionally used to soften the skin. Kratom leaves have very strong antioxidant activity so they are predicted also to have anti-tyrosinase activity. The potential inhibition of tyrosinase enzyme activity is thought to come from the content of flavonoid compounds, polyphenols, steroids, tannins, and quinones. This research aims to determine the tyrosinase inhibitory activity of ethanol extract of M. speciosa leaves. The inhibitory activity of the tyrosinase enzyme using L-DOPA as substrate and kojic acid as positive control. Antityrosinase testing was carried out by in vitro method using UV-vis spectrophotometer through determination of IC50 value. The results of the antityrosinase activity test of ethanol extract of M. speciosa leaves showed an IC50 value of 2117.708 ppm. The ethanol extract of M. speciosa leaves is scientifically proven to have antityrosinase activity with a weak category.

“GC-MS profiling, sub-acute toxicity study and total phenolic and flavonoid content analysis of methanolic leaf extract of Schima wallichii (D.C.) Korth-a traditional antidiabetic medicinal plant”

Ethnopharmacological relevanceSchima wallichii (D.C.) Korth is traditionally used in Manipur, India for treatment of diabetes and hypertension. However, there is no data reported regarding safety profile of this medicinal plant upon repeated per oral administration over a period of time. Aim of the studyIn the current study phytochemical profile, toxicological profile and total phenolic and flavonoid compound content of Schima wallichii leaves extract were evaluated. Materials and methodsGas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry was performed for chemical profiling by using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS/MS), Shimadzu, TQ8040 system. A 28 days sub-acute toxicity study was carried out using albino Wistar rats by administering 3 different doses (200, 400 and 800 mg/kg body weight per oral) of methanol leaves extract. Changes in body weights were recorded weekly. Serum biochemical parameters were estimated as well as blood-cell count was done to check the effect of extract on haematopoietic system. Histopathology of vital organs viz. kidney, heart, brain, liver was performed to find any pathological indications. Since, liver is main the site for xenobiotic metabolism, estimation of the level of glutathione, catalase and lipid peroxidation were done. Further, total phenolic and flavonoid compound content estimation was performed for the leaves extract. ResultsGC-MS revealed 14 major compounds with area percentage >1% of which quinic acid, n-Hexadecanoic acid, 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid, (Z,Z,Z)-, Octatriacontyl trifluoroacetate, are three major compounds. No mortality was observed after the treatment with extract. Blood-cell count and biochemical parameters didn't show significant deviation as compared to control group. Histopathology study of vital organs viz. (liver, kidney, heart and brain) showed normal cellular construction comparing to control group. There was no sign of membrane lipid peroxidation, depletion of catalase level and glutathione level in liver. The result demonstrates that NOAEL (no-observed-adverse-effect levels) in the sub-acute toxicity was above 800 mg/kg. The leaves extract showed significant total phenol and flavonoid content. ConclusionThe present study revealed that Schima wallichii possessed important bioactive compounds with therapeutic values. The plant was safe for consumption after repeated high doses administration in rats and possesses significant amount of total phenol and flavonoid content.

Formulation dan Phyical Stability Test Of Turi Leaf Extract (Sesbania grandiflora L.) Silver Nanoparticle Soap

One metal that is widely researched is silver (Ag) which can be used as an antibacterial and antifungal. The method that is widely developed is the biological method, also called biosynthesis. Biosynthesis is a synthesis method using media from plant extracts. This research was conducted to determine the best formulation of Ag nanoparticle soap from turi (sesbania grandiflora) leaf extract based on its stability test. To obtain turi leaf extraction using the infusion method, a flavonoid compound test was carried out to determine the flavonoid compound content. After knowing the existence of flavonoid compounds, the wavelength was determined using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. In the nanoparticle soap formula, a nanoparticle soap preparation was made which was then tested for the physical quality of Ag nanoparticle soap from turi leaf extract (Sesbania Grandiflora L). The gel-shaped preparation has a characteristic oleum rosae odor and a yellow to blackish soap color. Test the homogeneity to see if there are coarse grains on the surface of the soap. The specific gravity test results of all soap formulations meet the criteria for good soap. The high foam value in soap preparations is between 6.1 – 12.5 mM. The results of measuring the absorption values for concentrations of 1 mM, 2 mM, and 3 mM show that the optimum absorption results in liquid soap preparations are a concentration of 3 mM with a wavelength of 300 nm with an absorbance value of 1.105. The research results showed that turi leaf extract (sesbania grandiflora L) had an effect on the physical stability of Ag nanoparticle soap and met the standards set by SNI. Among formulation 1 with a concentration of 0.03, formulation II with a concentration of 0.06 and formulation III with a concentration of 0.09, the turi leaf extract soap preparation showed the best physical properties in formulation 1 with a concentration of 0.03 in the pH stability test.

Active Compounds of Red Ginger as Antioxidant Activity in the Supplementation and Treatment of Depression

This study examined compound active of red ginger related for supplementation and treatment of depression. Depression prevalence in Indonesia from the national population survey 6.9% had severe depression symptoms, 21.8% moderate to severe. Red ginger provided gold potential and demonstrated prominent natural phenomena and coexistence, abundant benefits. Standard herbal medicine and phytopharmaceuticals as one effort in dealing with depression disorder. Problem Statement. The use of medicines for depression disorder in the long term becomes a serious problem affecting various sectors and needs to be thought of side effects and complications. Objective. Antioxidants in red ginger (Zingiber Officinale Rosc. Var Rubrum has a secondary metabolite considered for treatment or supplementation in depression disorders. This study was experimental analytical study for analyzing secondary metabolism using phytochemical screening tests and examining active compounds with the combination of liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LCMS/MS).Red ginger extracts contain secondary metabolic flavonoids of 48.79 mgQE/g, phenol 92.73 mgGAE/G and antioxidants of 39.96 ppm. Establishment of the active compound that has an effect as an antioxidant α-Eleostearic acid (C18 H30 O2) chemspider result 10, mzcloud 96, L Histidine (C6 H9 N3 O2) chemspiders result 6, mzcloud 94,8. Tetrahydrocurcumin (C21 H24 O6) chemspider result 41, mzcloud 92,5. Active compounds of red ginger antioxidants are diarylheptanoid, phenylbutenoid, flavonoid, diterpenoide, sesquiterpenoid, gingerol and shogaol. Red ginger extract content of active flavonoid compounds and has an effect as an antioxidant is potentially used as a supplement in the treatment of depression disorders.

Phenolics and flavonoids from Polygonum posumbu and comparision of flavonoid compounds content in different tissues (leaves, stems and roots)

The growing global need for antioxidative phenolics and flavonoids for maintenance of human health resulted into search of new sustainable unexplored medicinal plants used by the traditional healers for various ailments. Many synthetic based products of phenolics and flavonoids have been used, however the demand of eco-friendly, natural herbal based products are increasing. As a result, the current study aims to explore traditional potential of Polygonum posumbu related to its phenolics and flavonoids. Optimization of extraction parameters were employed which includes: solvent selection (water, ethanol, methanol, acetone and ethyl acetate), ethanol composition (40–100%), solvent to sample ratio (30–70 ml/g), temperature (50–80 °C) and time (1–5 h). Under optimal conditions, total phenolics (TPC), total flavonoids (TFC), the extract yield (EY) and antioxidant activities of leaves extract were 162.79 ± 2.28 mg GAE/g, 56.57 ± 6.22 mg QE/g 27.96 ± 0.91%, and 27.34 ± 0.98 μg/ml respectively. Seven flavonoids were quantified in different tissues with significant (p ≤ 0.05) differences found in flavonoids contents in different parts of the plant. Highest concentration of flavonoids was observed in stems: (−)-epicatechin-53.19 ± 1.13 mg/g, myricetin-15.90 ± 0.13 mg/g, quercetin-50.66 ± 0.08 mg/g, luteolin-43.10 ± 0.47 mg/g, apigenin-16.73 ± 0.43 mg/g. Leaves and roots had the highest amount of genistein (05.06 ± 0.01 mg/g) and kaempferol (11.13 ± 0.06 mg/g) respectively. From the study it had been found that Polygonum posumbu possess a very good amount of phenolics and flavonoids and this study details first ever investigation on this plant in terms of phenolics and flavonoids. Therefore, this study enhanced the importance of this bioresource in functional food or nutraceutical industries.

Uji Aktivitas Sediaan Sampo Antiketombe Ekstrak Daun Ketepeng Cina (Cassia alata L) Terhadap Jamur Pityrosporum ovale

Dandruff is a health problem that is often experienced by most people because it can reduce self-confidence. The aim of this research is to determine the extract of Chinese ketepeng leaves (Cassia alata L) as an anti-dandruff shampoo preparation and to determine the activity of the shampoo against Pityrosporum ovale and Candida albicans fungi using laboratory experimental methods. This research is divided into three concentration variations, namely 10% - 15% 20% and two supporting controls, namely control (-) without extract and control (+), namely ketomed shampoo. Results: The results of the research for the inhibitory power of the fungus Pityrosporum ovale without extract (-) have a value of 4.43 mm at a concentration of 10% have an inhibition zone of 17.23 mm at a concentration of 15% have an inhibitory zone value of 18.67 mm at a concentration of 20% have the value of the inhibition zone is 19.66 mm in the control (+) which has a value of 20.87 mm. In Candida albicans without extract (-) it has a value of 2.33 mm at a concentration of 10% it has an inhibition zone value of 16.44 mm at a concentration of 15% it has an inhibition zone value of 17.76 mm at a concentration of 20% it has an inhibition zone value of 19.37 mm at control (+) has a value of 20.54 mm. Chinese ketepeng (Cassia alata L.) leaf extract can be used as an anti-dandruff shampoo, based on the results of the preparation evaluation it was found that the formula with a concentration of 15% meets the characteristics of a good shampoo, and the flavonoid compound content in Chinese Ketapang (Cassia alata L.) leaf extract is 15% has a high zone of inhibition against P. ovale and C. albicans fungi. So it can be concluded that the best formula obtained in this study was at an extract concentration of 15%.

ANTIHIPERURESEMIA FLAVONOID DARI EKSTRAK ETANOL PELEPAH DAUN NIPAH (Nypa fruticans.Wurmb)

Hyperuresimia or gout in advanced stages causes joint damage (gout), kidney stones and kidney damage. Flavonoids as antioxidants can inhibit the activity of the enzyme xanthine oxidase which causes uric acid not to form. Nypa fruticans or known as nipah is traditionally used in the treatment of asthma, leprosy, tuberculosis, sore throat, liver disease, snake bites, as a pain reliever, as a sedative and carminative. The content of flavonoid compounds in nipah plants includes chlorogenic acid, protocatechuic acid, kaempferol, gallic acid, hydroxybenzoic acid, rutin, quercetin, cinnamic acid, and anthocyanins. The purpose of this study was to isolate flavonoid compounds that have potential as antihyperuresemia from nipah fronds. The research process began with the extraction of nipah leaves using 96% ethanol by maceration, fractionation using liquid-liquid partition method, isolation using centrifugal chromatography (chromatotron) method and structure elucidation using 1HNMR, 13CNMR, FTIR and GC-MS. Antihyperuresemia testing was carried out in-vitro by inhibiting xanthine oxidase enzyme activity. From the results of the study, two flavonoid compounds were successfully isolated including (-) epicatechin, and chamferol. The results of measuring the inhibitory activity of xanthine oxidase enzyme obtained IC50 values of (-) epicatechin and chamferol of 3.543 ppm and 10.383 ppm, respectively.

SUN PROTECTION FACTOR (SPF) VALUE AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF PURIFIED GAMBIER GEL PREPARATION

Gambier is an export product from Sumatera, Indonesia, that can be purified and utilized in cosmetic preparations. The content of phenolic and flavonoid compounds of purified gambier has a potential skin protection against UV rays. The chemical content of extract is closely related to the polarity of solvent, so this study aims to analyze the effect of ethanol concentration as solvent in gambier purification on phenolic content, flavonoids, and SPF value. The ethanol concentrations for this purpose were 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 96%. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were analyzed by colorimetric method, whereas the SPF value of gel was measured by UV spectrophotometer. The gel preparation was evaluated for its physical properties including organoleptic test, spreadability, adhesiveness, viscosity, pH and stability. Statistical analysis performed with one-way ANOVA at 95% confidence level. As the results, ethanol concentration significantly influenced phenolic, flavonoid content and SPF values. The highest phenolic content was obtained in purification by 50% ethanol with a value of 757.2 ± 13.1 mg GAE/g, while highest flavonoid content was achieved in 96% ethanol at 5.18 ± 0.21 mg QE/g. Ethanol concentration with highest SPF value was 96% at 27.07 ± 0.33. In the gambier gel formulation with 0.2% dose had an SPF value of 6.60 ± 0.58. The gel has good homogeneity, viscosity, and pH for cosmetic preparations but poor spreadability. The stability of the gel formulation changed after accelerated stability testing for 4 weeks

Antioxidant Activities of Stem, Leaves and Fruits Extracts of Pepino (Solanum muricatum Aiton).

&lt;b&gt;Background and Objective:&lt;/b&gt; Pepino (&lt;i&gt;Solanum muricatum&lt;/i&gt; Aiton), rich with vitamin C and flavonoids, constitutes an abundant source of potent antioxidants. This research was conducted to determine antioxidant activity from three different parts of pepino based on equivalence with ascorbic acid, to analyze the relationship between total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) on antioxidant activities and to determine flavonoid compounds. &lt;b&gt;Materials and Methods:&lt;/b&gt; Antioxidant activities were determined using 2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and Cupric Ion Reducing Antioxidant Capacity (CUPRAC) methods. The TPC and TFC were determined by UV-visible spectrophotometry. The correlation between TPC, TFC and antioxidant activity was analyzed using Pearson's method. Flavonoid compound content was performed by HPLC. &lt;b&gt;Results:&lt;/b&gt; The ethyl acetate pepino fruit extract expressed the highest antioxidant activity by DPPH and CUPRAC assays. The highest TPC was obtained from the ethyl acetate extract of pepino stem (18.493 g GAE/(100 g)), while the highest TFC was obtained from the hexane extract of pepino leaves (9.541 g QE/(100 g)). &lt;b&gt;Conclusion:&lt;/b&gt; The DPPH and CUPRAC assays demonstrated that pepino exhibits potential as a source of natural antioxidants, especially in its fruit part.

Optimization of ultrasound-assisted extraction using response surface methodology and quantification of polyphenol compounds in Avicennia officinalis L. from Vietnam

Response surface methodology was used to estimate the optimum extraction parameters, for which the total phenolic content and total flavonoid content of Avicennia officinalis L. extract were the highest. Based on the 3D surface plots and regression analysis of the independent variables, the optimal conditions for the ultrasound-assisted extraction were as follows: methanol content, 55.27%; liquid-to-solid ratio, 14:1 (mL/g, v/w); temperature, 48.8 °C, and time, 9.66 min. Optimal extraction conditions were applied to validate the quantification. The bioactive compounds from the Avicennia officinalis L. extract were identified through ultra-fast liquid chromatography coupled to diode array detector for the first time. These methods were applied to quantify phenolic acids and flavonoids from A. officinalis extracts collected at six different locations in Vietnam. The results showed that the concentrations of these compounds varied from 0.319 ± 0.022 to 3.524 ± 0.125 mg/g in the methanol extract. The result showed that cinnamic acid is the major compound in A. officinalis collected in Vietnam. In the present study, an optimized ultrasound-assisted extraction was first designed to improve the content of phenolic acids and flavonoid compounds from A. officinalis. Additionally, the bioactive compounds from the A. officinalis extract were identified through UFLC-DAD for the first time.

Resposta de cultivares de cravo suscetíveis à aplicação de tiamina como indutor de resistência à murcha vascular causada por Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi

Abstract Colombia is one of the main producers of carnations worldwide. However, its production has been affected by vascular wilting caused by the pathogen Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi (Fod). In previous studies, thiamine has been proposed as a potential resistance inducer for this disease, under greenhouse growth conditions. However, the specific conditions for its application must be studied when applying it under commercial conditions. In this sense, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of the thiamine foliar spray in different concentrations among some susceptible carnation cultivars in response to Fod-inoculation. For this, two in-vivo trials were carried out, using foliar spraying of thiamine as a treatment before inoculation with the pathogen Fod, then measurements of incidence, severity, and the content of phenolic and flavonoid compounds were made. It was found that thiamine application, in the concentrations evaluated, shows a statistically similar decrease in the disease incidence and severity. These results were verified using multivariate statistical analysis. In addition, it was found that the application of thiamine 1 mmol L-1 presents a positive response in reducing the effects of the disease in three susceptible cultivars. The results suggest that thiamine has the potential to be applied as a technique in the integrated management of disease in the productive sector.

Agronomic performance and wine phenolic composition of ‘Merlot’ grown in altitude region with different rootstocks

Several studies have reported the influence of rootstocks on grape and wine composition, however, there is considerable variability in the results. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of three different rootstocks on vegetative-productive balance and the wine composition of ‘Merlot’. The present work was conducted in the municipality of Painel, during the 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 vintages. The vegetative, productive, and enological variables of ‘Merlot’ grafted onto ‘Paulsen 1103’, ‘3309 Couderc’ and ‘101-14 Mgt’ rootstocks were evaluated. The ANOVA results showed that‘3309C’ rootstock promoted an increase in the productive indices, and consequently in more adequate vegetative-productive balance for ‘Merlot’ variety compared to the rootstocks ‘Paulsen 1103’ and ‘101-14 Mgt’. The rootstocks ‘3309C’ and ‘101-14 Mgt’ provided more adequate maturation indices for ‘Merlot’. The ‘101-14 Mgt’ rootstock was associated with the highest contents of flavonoid compounds, while the ‘3309C’ rootstock was related to higher contents of non-flavonoid compounds, especially resveratrol.

Zuccagnia punctata Cav., a Potential Environmentally Friendly and Sustainable Bionematicide for the Control of Argentinean Horticultural Crops.

This research was designed to investigate the metabolite profiling, phenolics, and flavonoids content as well as the potential nematicidal properties of decoction (ZpDe), orange-yellow resin (ZpRe) and essential oil (ZpEO) from Argentinean medicinal plant Zuccagnia punctata Cav. Additionally, the antioxidant and antibacterial properties of ZpDe and ZpEO were determined. Metabolite profiling was obtained by an ultrahigh-resolution liquid chromatography MS analysis (UHPLC-ESI-QTOF/OT-MS-MS) and GCMS. The nematicidal activity was assayed by a standardized method against Meloidogyne incognita. The antioxidant properties were screened by four methods: (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay (DPPH), Trolox equivalent antioxidant activity assay (TEAC), ferric-reducing antioxidant power assay (FRAP), and lipid peroxidation in erythrocytes (ILP). The antibacterial activity was evaluated according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) rules. The ZpDe, ZpRe and ZpEO displayed a strong nematicidal activity with an LC50 of 0.208, 0.017 and 0.142 mg/mL, respectively. On the other hand, the ZpDe showed a strong DPPH scavenging activity (IC50 = 28.54 µg/mL); ILP of 87.75% at 250 µg ZpDe/mL and moderated antimicrobial activity. The ZpEO showed promising activity against a panel of yeasts Candida albicans and non-albicans (ATCC and clinically isolated) with MIC values from 750 to 1500 µg/mL. The ZpDe showed a content of phenolics and flavonoid compounds of 241 mg GAE/g and 10 mg EQ/g, respectively. Fifty phenolic compounds were identified in ZpDe by ultrahigh-resolution liquid chromatography (UHPLC-PDA- Q-TOF-MS) analysis, while forty-six phenolic compounds were identified in ZpRe by UHPLC-ESI-Q-OT-MS-MS and twenty-nine in ZpEO using a GC-MS analysis, updating the knowledge on the chemical profile of this species. The results support and standardize this medicinal plant mainly as a potential environmentally friendly and sustainable bionematicide for the control of Argentinean horticultural crops including tomatoes and peppers and as a source of antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds which could be further explored and exploited for potential applications.

The distribution of the experimental animal model groups was divided into control groups (KN, K-, K+) and treatment groups (P, P2, P3).There was a significant difference the decreased of the TNF-α levels at the all of treatment groups with red ginger rhizome extract (P1, P2, P3) compared with the control groups (KN, K-) (p&lt;0.05), the significantly decreased of IL-6 levels in the three doses treatment group (P1, P2, P3) compared to the control group (K-, K+) (p &lt;0.05) and an increase in IL-10 levels in the 50 mg treatment group compared to group K -, statistically not significant (p&gt;0.05).In overall, this study suggests that FST stimulation will create anxiety symptoms and behavior as well as impact cytokine levels, namely elevated levels of TNF-α and IL-6. Effects of black seed oil combined with olive oil or honey on antioxidant activities, phenolic content, and identification and quantification of thymoquinone, a key bioactive compound

The plant Nigella sativa (NS) has a rich history in folk medicine, being utilized for various illnesses and as tonic drugs. Furthermore, thymoquinone (TQ), a major compound found in the seeds of NS, may exhibit antioxidant activity. In addition to black candles, traditional medicine employs olive oil and honey to nourish the body. Some folk medicine systems combine NS, honey, and olive oil for improved efficacy; however, knowledge regarding the antioxidant properties of black seed oil (BSO), BSO with olive oil (BSOO), and BSO with honey (BSOH) remains limited. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the antioxidant properties of BSO, BSOO, and BSOH. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis showed that BSO contained 73.48 ± 1.23 mg/kg TQ. BSO, BSOO, and BSOH exhibited remarkable antioxidant activity, with NO scavenging activities of 94.32, 76.53, and 50.37, respectively. The 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and metal chelating activity assays (with half-maximal inhibitory concentration values), oxygen radical antioxidant capacity, and total flavonoid compound content of BSO were 0.135 ± 0.003 mg/mL, 0.005 ± 0.003 mg/mL, 32 ± 0.4 μM Trolox/g extract, and 997 ± 20 mg catechin equivalent/g of extract, respectively. These results are potentially linked to the increased antioxidant activity, as suggested by Pearson's correlation coefficients. In the ferric-reducing antioxidant power assay, the highest antioxidant activity was demonstrated by BSOO and BSOH, with total phenolic content of 7288 ± 300 mM FeSO4/mg and 346 ± 17 mg of gallic acid equivalent/g E, respectively. This study affirms the potent antioxidant properties of BSO, BSOO, and BSOH, emphasizing the importance of further research on NS infusion as a promising antioxidant agent and its application as an anti-aging and tonic drug.

Comparative analysis of physicochemical parameters of buckwheat perga of honey of different regional origins

Studies of beekeeping products reveal the presence of a significant complex of biologically active substances in them, which arouses great interest among scientists and specialists in the field of medicine and nutrition. One of the little-studied products – perga, is characterized by a unique composition of complex compounds, characterized by their natural harmony, bioavailability and synergistic interaction. This research substance, which is the result of the active activity of bees, includes a balanced spectrum of biologically active components that can affect various aspects of human health. In particular, its potential is considered in the context of strengthening immunity, increasing energy reserves and general support of physiological processes. Such a well-known product can become an important addition to the diet and an approach to maintaining optimal health. The physico-chemical and organoleptic characteristics of buckwheat perga from different regions were studied in order to establish possible differences in their composition and quality. The analysis of perga samples from the Boryspil and Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky districts showed that the mass fraction of mechanical impurities in both cases is 0 %, confirming their high quality and purity. It was determined that the moisture content of the perga from Boryspil district is 8.7 %, and from Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi – 7.6 %, which may be due to differences in the conditions of collection and storage. The pH level in perga from Boryspil district is 5, and from Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi – 3.9, which indicates possible differences in chemical conditions. The study also revealed a difference in the mass content of flavonoid compounds: in perga from Boryspil district, this indicator is 3.7 %, and from Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi – 2.5 %. The organoleptic analysis showed a high index of color (5 points) for both areas, indicating stability and intensity of color. Taste and smell received 4.8 and 4.5 points, respectively, confirming the presence of high-quality aroma and taste. Appearance and consistency were also highly rated (4.4 and 4.8 points), indicating the variety and naturalness of the lumps and their crumbly structure. The general analysis confirms the presence of differences in the composition and characteristics of buckwheat perga from different regions. These differences may be related to environmental factors, but they correspond to DSTU 7074:2009.
