Peningkatan Prestasi Belajar Pelajaran Bahasa Indonesia Menggunakan Media Peta Konsep Peserta Didik Kelas II di MIS Tanjungsari Tersono

There were problems found in the learning process that took place at MIS Tanjungsari Tersono, Tersono District, Batang Regency. This is indicated by the low results of Indonesian language learning in class II. The low results of Indonesian language learning can be seen from the achievement of student learning outcomes in Indonesian language learning which has not met the school's Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM), which is 70 and the average value is still very low. The purpose of this improvement is This research was carried out with the following objectives: Improving Indonesian language learning outcomes in class II using concept map media at MIS Tanjungsari Tersono, Batang Regency. For implementation, Cycle I to Cycle II were used. The author draws a conclusion, with Concept Map Media there is a significant increase in learning outcomes, as evidenced by an average of 63.5 in the Pre-Cycle or a percentage of learning completion of 40% in Cycle I with a percentage of learning completion of 70% and a significant increase in Cycle II with an average of 77 with a percentage of completion of 90% at MIS Tanjungsari Tersono, Batang Regency.

Examining the student and teacher feedback on concept mapping as a teaching and learning method

Background: Nursing students struggle to link theory to practice; therefore, nurse educators are requested to use innovative methods to help them in this regard such as the concept mapping. Purpose: to examine the effectiveness of concept mapping as a teaching learning method in clinical setting. Method: A mixed method approach was used to student nurse and educators. A Likert scale of 15 items with 4 open ended questions was used to assess the effectiveness of the method in improving the students’ care plan. For qualitative, teacher’ reflection was used to assess the teacher perception about the effectiveness of concept map as a teaching learning method. Results: This study indicated concept mapping is an effective method in teaching in clinical setting, developing appropriate care plan and promoting critical thinking. The result showed that there is significant difference between the mean scores of participants in relation to critical thinking and usage of concept map in clinical setting, however there was no difference in regards of usage of concept map in developing care plan. Conclusion: Nurse Educators should consider the use of concept mapping as a way of teaching and learning process in order to improve critical thinking and quality of care.

Concept mapping perceptions of climate impacts on sport participation: perspectives from community-level managers

ABSTRACT Rationale Community sport is an important setting for managing sport participation, yet few studies have investigated the impacts of climate change on sport. Even fewer studies have investigated climate impacts from the perspectives of sport managers at the grassroots level. The research aim was to understand how frontline community sport managers perceive climate change impacts on their sports. Methods Concept Mapping (online) with managers at nineteen organisations delivering community sport situated across four Australian climate zones. Findings A five-cluster concept map was selected as the most appropriate representation of participants’ sorting data: (1) Management & Planning Impacts, (2) Financial & Infrastructure Impacts, (3) Changes to Events, (4) Emotional & Social Impacts, and (5) Health & Safety Impacts. These clusters were grouped into three impact domains: Management & Infrastructure Impacts; Activity Impacts; and People Impacts. Practical implications The five clusters of impacts shed new light on managing climate change complexity for community sport. The impact clusters can assist sport managers design interventions to reduce disruption to sport participation. Listening to the perspectives of frontline staff who deliver sport is essential for managing these impacts. Research contribution A cluster map of perceived climate impacts provides a new framework for scholars investigating climate change impacts on sport.

Justice for denizens: a conceptual map

ABSTRACT Under which conditions, if any, is it morally permissible for states to grant non-citizen residents (‘denizens’) different political, socio-economic, and cultural rights than citizens? What, if anything, could justify legal rights-differentiations along the lines of citizenship? This special issue scrutinizes these politically increasingly salient questions from a wide range of perspectives, drawing on recent literature in the ethics of migration, citizenship, multiculturalism, and refuge, as well as on normative theories of law, territory, and settler colonialism. In this introduction to the volume, I sketch a conceptual map of the emerging debate on justice for denizens, making explicit some underlying theoretical assumptions common to each of the three key domains of legal rights-differentiations (political, socio-economic, and cultural rights). I distinguish the question of what is owed to denizens as a matter of justice, from that of what justice permits and requires in respect to denizens generally. And I outline four models, implicit in the literature, for theorizing the moral rights different types of denizens have and lack – to help determine which forms of unequal treatment wrong them. I conclude by providing brief summaries of the seven contributing articles, pinpointing them on my conceptual map.

First-year undergraduate biology education students’ critical thinking and self-regulation: Implementation of a metacognitive-based e-learning module

This study examines the improvement of first-year students’ critical thinking and self-regulation by implementing a metacognitive-based e-module. To address the challenges of learning in accordance with the demands of the higher education curriculum, metacognitive-based e-modules are required. Metacognitive strategies such as analogies, concept maps, mnemonics, and discrepant events integrated into e-modules encourage students to be more critical and independent when understanding concepts and solving problems. The study employed quasi-experimental with two groups, a study group (instructed metacognitive-based e-module) control group (conventional module). Eighty-three students as respondents were involved. The descriptive results indicate that cognitive strategies promote curiosity, facilitate understanding, and aid in long-term memory. Metacognitive-based e-modules could encourage awareness, learning activities, evaluation and interpersonal skills. There is a significant difference in students' ability to think critically and self-regulation. The metacognitive strategy using e-module was found to be stimulating, thought-provoking, and facilitating students to have critical thinking and self-regulation.

Semantic Classification of Phraseological Units

This study explores the semantic classification of phraseological units and its significance in language learning and teaching. Phraseological units, including idioms, enrich linguistic expression by conveying figurative, metaphoric, symbolic, and ironical meanings. However, their complexity poses challenges for learners due to the disconnect between literal and figurative interpretations. By categorizing idioms into semantic groups, such as figurative or symbolic, this research simplifies their understanding and usage, enabling learners to enhance their linguistic and cultural competence. The study integrates linguistic theories, corpus linguistics, and practical teaching techniques, such as conceptual mapping and comparative analysis, to examine idioms’ structural and cultural nuances. Findings highlight the importance of semantic classification in improving comprehension, retention, and cross-cultural communication. Recommendations for future idiom pedagogy emphasize the integration of innovative methods and cross-linguistic comparisons to address learners' evolving needs.

Understanding Orthopaedic Infections: A Conceptual Approach.

Memorizing mounds of facts without having an effective conceptual framework to store them is often an unsuccessful learning style because memory frequently fails without understanding. To accomplish this goal, we offer a framework of ideas called "concept maps". Of the many strategies for metacognition (that is, thinking about thinking), concept mapping is proven to improve meaningful and independent learning. We used this approach to guide understanding of common orthopaedic infections. This paper is not meant to serve as an approach on how to treat, but rather as a storage system with the ability to assist in understanding orthopaedic infections. Concept maps are constructed using information from over 30 sources of orthopaedic or infectious disease literature. The sequential levels of each concept map are referred to as levels of hierarchy. Boxes of each level of hierarchy are designed to be a point of differentiation between a similar concept. Branches form lower levels of hierarchy to further divide specific concepts. 5 concept maps were constructed. One map is an overview of all concepts, and the key concept for each of the following map are as follows: osteomyelitis, synovial infection, myositis, and foreign material infection. A conceptual approach is a way of learning material in a manner that allows effective storage and retrieval. This approach will ultimately lead to a better understanding of orthopaedic infections.

How to catch the investor’s eye when going green in the Spanish hospitality industry

The growing integration of environmental sustainability within the hospitality industry, driven by both ethical and financial motivations, underscores the need to understand the investment criteria valued by stakeholders. However, limited research exists on how investors specifically evaluate sustainable investments in this sector. Drawing on existing literature that highlights the positive financial and operational impacts of sustainability initiatives, this study investigates factors influencing sustainable investment decisions in the Spanish hospitality sector. Grounded in focus group interviews conducted with a representative sample of investors aligned with the current structure of investment practices in the Spanish hospitality industry, this study employs an adapted concept mapping methodology enhanced by consensus analysis using the global index of consensus indicator. This approach enables the quantitative measurement of consensus among investors, providing a structured view of the criteria shaping sustainable investment choices. Findings reveal that while financial motivations continue to dominate investment decisions, environmental considerations are becoming increasingly significant, particularly those aligning with consumer expectations and stakeholder engagement in sustainable practices. Results suggest that environmentally friendly initiatives must demonstrate clear economic benefits to attract investment; sustainability must be financially viable. By aligning environmental goals with profitability, sustainable investments can appeal to a broader range of investors, promoting responsible practices in the hospitality sector while ensuring long-term returns.

Concept Mapping: An Innovative Approach to Clinical Case Analysis in an Undergraduate Medical Education Curriculum in Social Sciences, Humanities, Ethics, and Professionalism

Abstract Although ethics is increasingly integrated in the curriculum of U.S. medical schools, it remains not well integrated with system issues, and social and structural contexts of illness. Moreover, ethical analysis is not often taught as a clinical skill. To address these issues, an outcomes driven course in Social Sciences, Humanities, Ethics and Professionalism (SHEP) was created. Within the course, a web-based concept mapping device, SHEP Case Analysis Tool (SCAT), was created which schematizes the structure and flow of clinical cases from diagnosis to treatment options, to shared decision making to outcome, and includes key stakeholders, influences, and structural features of the health system. In the course, each student analyzes a case in which they were directly involved using SCAT and presents their analysis to faculty and peers. This exercise 1) reinforces knowledge-based portions of the course pedagogy, 2) supports meta-cognition and critical thinking through concept mapping, 3) applies multidimensional analysis to identify ethical, social, and system issues that impact patient-care. 4) develops problem solving skills, 5) counters the hidden curriculum/support professional identity formation, and 6) develops skills in reflective discourse. This paper outlines the development and use of this concept mapping case analysis tool in an undergraduate medical education curriculum.

When academic impact is not enough: a concept mapping study characterising excellence in practice-based research

Background: Research quality is often discussed in terms of excellence, emphasising replicability and trustworthiness. Practice-based research instead emphasises implementability and practical impact, and thus, may reflect other values and logics and challenge how high-quality practice-based research is defined. The aim of this study is to explore what characterises excellent practice-based research. Method: R&D staff at social and health care organisations in Sweden were invited to participate in a concept mapping study. Forty-eight participants were prompted to finish the sentence: ‘Excellent practice-based research is characterised by …’ in a brainstorming session. Next, participants (n=22) worked individually to sort statements by similarity and rate perceived importance (n=13) and experience (n=10). Data was analysed with multidimensional scaling, cluster analysis and t-tests. Lastly, a digital workshop with 50 participants was conducted to facilitate the interpretation of cluster solutions. Results: Eighty-three statements were distilled into 11 clusters from characteristics typical for traditional academic values (for example, ‘deploying appropriate methods’) and practice-based research (for example, ‘being actionable’) to characteristics emphasising the unique blend between them, such as ‘capturing and conveying reality’ and ‘embracing different agendas and perspectives’, the latter rated as the most important quality of excellent practice-based research, followed by ‘deploying appropriate methods’ and ‘being actionable’. Conclusions: Practice-based research is a complex field, addressing both ‘why things are’ and ‘how they work’. This study offers insights into how excellent practice-based research can be defined, broadening the view of what excellence entails.

Student Perceptions of Concept Mapping as a Teaching Tool in Ayurvedic Education

ABSTRACT Background: A concept map is a visual representation of knowledge that illustrates the relationships and propositions among various concepts. Aim and Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of teaching and assess the perceptions of Ayurvedic undergraduate students through concept mapping. Method and Material: In this study, 48 students were included and divided into two groups. The topic for intervention was the mechanisms of Vaman (induced vomiting). Group A was taught through a didactic lecture, while Group B was taught using concept mapping, followed by a crossover of the groups. Students were provided with a structured and revalidated feedback form, and their perceptions were assessed using a five-point Likert scale. Results: Analysis of the feedback form indicated that students expressed greater satisfaction with the concept mapping teaching approach, attributing it to enhanced comprehension of the subject matter. Conclusion: Concept mapping can be an effective teaching tool for teaching complex concepts.

The use of concept mapping in data analysis: a phenomenology study of family members’ experiences in taking care of people with cancer†

Abstract Objective To explain the use of concept mapping in a study about family members’ experiences in taking care of people with cancer. Methods This study used a phenomenological study design. In this study, we describe the analytical process of using concept mapping in our phenomenological studies about family members’ experiences in taking care of people with cancer. Results We developed several concept maps that aided us in analyzing our collected data from the interviews. Conclusions The use of concept mapping is suggested to researchers who intend to analyze their data in any qualitative studies, including those using a phenomenological design, because it is a time-efficient way of dealing with large amounts of qualitative data during the analytical process.

The effect of case-supported concept map education on nursing students' knowledge of and attitudes toward pressure injury prevention.

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of case-based concept map education on nursing students' knowledge of and attitudes toward pressure injury prevention. This is a single-group, pre-and post-test,quasi-experimental study. It was conducted in a school of nursing in Türkiye with seventy-seven students. Students received case-supported concept map education to prevent pressure injury. Data were collected using the Pressure Ulcer Prevention Knowledge Assessment Instrument (PUPKAI) and the Pressure Ulcer Prevention Attitude Instrument (APuP) before, immediately after, and four weeks after education. The data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance for repeated measures. There were significant differences between the three time points in terms of the PUPKAI total (F=33.925, p<0.001) and subscales scores (etiology and development (F=7.362, p=0.001), classification and observation (F=48.386, p<0.001), nutrition (F=4.766, p=0.011), preventive measures to reduce the amount of pressure/shear (F=42.762, p<0.001), and preventive measures to reduce the duration of pressure/shear (F=5.248, p=0.025), except for risk assessment (p<0.05). There were also significant differences between the three time points in terms of the APuP total score (F=33.925, p=0.018). The Bonferroni test revealed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test APuP total scores (p=0.022). The study demonstrated that case-supported concept map education significantly improved nursing students' knowledge of and attitudes toward pressure injury prevention. These findings suggest that incorporating case-supported concept map education into nursing curricula can effectively enhance students' competence in pressure injury prevention.

A Holistic Way to Understand the Determinants of Physical Activity in Urban New South Wales, Australia: A Codesigned Systems Mapping Project.

To meet the World Health Organization goal of reducing physical inactivity by 15% by 2030, a multisectoral system approach is urgently needed to promote physical activity (PA). We report the process of and findings from a codesigned systems mapping project to present determinants of PA in the context of urban New South Wales, Australia. A participatory conceptual mapping workshop was held in May 2023 with 19 participants working in education, transportation, urban planning, community, health, and sport and recreation. Initial maps were developed and refined using online feedback from the participants. Interviews were conducted with 10 additional policymakers from relevant sectors to further refine the maps. Two systems maps were cocreated, identifying over 100 variables influencing PA and their interconnections. Five settings emerged from the adults' map-social and community, policy, built environment and transportation, health care, and workplace-and 4 for the young people's map-family, school, transportation, and community and environment. The maps share similarities, such as regarding potential drivers within the transportation, community, and built environment sectors; however, the young people's map has a specific focus on the school setting and the adults' map on workplace and health care settings. Interviews with policymakers provided further unique insights into understanding and intervening in the PA system. This codesigned participatory systems mapping process, supplemented by stakeholder interviews, provided a unique opportunity to bring together stakeholders across sectors to understand the complexity within the PA system and begin to identify leverage points for tackling physical inactivity in New South Wales.

A Study on the Learning Progressions of Understanding the Core Concepts of Kinetic Energy in High School

Learning progressions divide the logical system of a subject into ordered and continuously developing levels that are suitable for the cognitive development level of students, which plays an important role in understanding students’ learning process. This paper focuses on the theme of “kinetic energy” in high school physics as the research object. Firstly, the concept map was used to represent the relationship between knowledge, and then five core concepts were selected based on the opinions of high school teachers. Secondly, the test tools were compiled and tested based on the relevant test questions. Finally, the paper analyzed the results based on the Rasch model, clarified students’ cognitive development level of “kinetic energy” and constructed the learning progressions of “kinetic energy” based on the logical order of subject knowledge. The research provides theoretical and methodological support for the study of other subjects and learning progressions, and provides a valuable reference for high school teachers to effectively carry out the instruction of “kinetic energy.”

Lean Six Sigma practices supported by Industry 4.0 technologies: evidence from heavy vehicle manufacturers

PurposeThis paper aims to provide empirical evidence regarding Lean Six Sigma (LSS) practices supported by Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies in heavy vehicle manufacturing processes.Design/methodology/approachA two-case study was performed involving LSS specialists, leaders and managers of two heavy vehicle manufacturers in Brazil. The data analysis procedure combined content analysis techniques, conceptual maps and network analysis.FindingsThe results provide consistent evidence of synergies between LSS and I4.0, including digital mistake-proofing, digital andon, e-kanban, statistical monitoring as well as process mapping aided by cyber-physical systems (CPS) and big data analytics (BDA). To enable such interactions, companies need to invest in automation architectures, system integration, human–machine interfaces and analytical skills.Research limitations/implicationsThis study relies on data from a two-case study carried out in two companies from a single manufacturing sector in Brazil. For this reason, the findings cannot be generalized to the entire automotive industry.Originality/valueThere is still a lack of comprehensive research on the application of digital technologies in LSS practices. This is the first study which provides empirical evidence regarding the LSS practices supported by I4.0 technologies used by heavy vehicle manufacturers.

Humanistic learning in higher education: a bibliometric analysis utilizing RStudio and Scopus database collection (1970–2023)

ABSTRACT This bibliometric analysis explored research trends on humanistic learning (HL) in higher education (HE), addressing a gap in understanding its integration into HE research. Using the PRISMA framework, 1,115 articles from Scopus were analysed, covering publication years, countries, authors, journals, and keywords. The year 2022 saw the highest output (n = 109), with the United States contributing most articles, overall (n = 855). The Journal of Chemical Education was the leading journal with an h-index of 21, and the University of Minnesota (n = 21) was a key institution in the field. Word cloud analysis highlighted “teaching” as a dominant term, emphasizing its role in HL research. Thematic and conceptual maps revealed major areas like student-centred learning, teacher education, and web-based education. Limitations include the dataset's focus on Social Sciences and specific metrics. Future studies could expand the dataset and apply other bibliometric tools for a more thorough analysis.

Concept Mapping the Ways to Support Mental Health and Mental Well-being of Canadian Racialized and Immigrant Communities.

Although there is recent growing attention on mental health and mental well-being across the globe, supports in this area of healthcare can be a challenge for immigrant and racialized groups with experiences of hardship across several domains. This study aimed to gather perspectives from immigrants and racialized community members on strategies central to support their mental health and well-being, with the aim of addressing research to practice gaps. The study was co-designed in collaboration with a Community Action Table in Markham, Ontario, a setting with 93% of residents self-identifying as visible minorities. Using a community-focused mixed methods Concept Mapping approach, 68 residents, service providers, and policymakers were engaged through three phases of brainstorming, sorting and rating, and interpretation. Their brainstorming led to 68 statements which they sorted into groups and rated for importance and feasibility to act in next six months. Further analysis led to a 9-cluster concept map comprising of Family Wellness, Awareness & Education, Cultural Sensitivity, Social Service Access, Community Building, Socioeconomic, Food Security, Healthcare Access, and Housing Stability. These clusters are important in advancing knowledge on ways to support and prioritize mental health and well-being of immigrants and racialized communities. Overall, participants viewed mental health and well-being as being closely tied to their living and working conditions while also focusing on family wellness and intergenerational dynamics. Novel insights from this project are important for the planning of mental health and well-being supports for immigrant groups in Canada and can help improve foci across sectors through service implementation.
