Nesting trees used by a pest bird (Village Weaver, Ploceus cucullatus): a large field survey suggests further human conflicts with local stakeholders in Southern Nigeria

Abstract The village weaver (Ploceus cucullatus) is a common colonial nesting bird widespread throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. It is known to weave its nests from leaf strips from a variety of tree species (mainly coconuts trees, oil palm trees) associated with human settlement areas, grasses, and other available plants. In this regard, this bird was considered a pest for its impact on different economic activities. Although extensive literature is already available on the parasitic role of village weavers, there is still a lack of analytical data that outlines which tree species are used for nesting and in what proportion, as well as the related implications in terms of economic impacts. Here, we carried out the first comprehensive arrangement of trees used by this species for nesting in Southern Nigeria (West Africa), checking for possible different impacts on stakeholders. In April 2021, we searched for village weaver nesting in 95 sites in 77 communities from 24 local government areas in Southern Nigeria, during 14 field surveys. Within each site, we collected GPS coordinates and counted the number of active nests, nesting birds and occupied trees. We recorded a total of 5,776 nests and 2,140 birds in 94 plants belonging to 23 tree species selected for nesting. Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis; n = 45) was the most used tree species, as 2,990 (51.77%) nests and 873 (40.79%) birds were recorded. Our results indicate the preference for nesting on trees used by stakeholders belonging to agricultural (palm farmers), touristic (operators) and energy (gas flare stations) sectors with economic implications about the conflict with this pest species.

비대면 온라인 문화예술교육 운영에 관한 실행연구

This study is an action research that find and implement the strategies to improve the problems discovered while operating non-face-to-face online culture and arts education. Accordingly, the action process was carried out in the stages of ‘primary action’, ‘reflection of primary action’, ‘finding improvement plans’, ‘secondary action’, ‘observation results of secondary action’, and ‘comprehensive arrangement and reflection of the entire action’. In ‘reflection of primary action’ stage, inefficient interaction is monitored between instructor and learners. Then in ‘observation results of secondary action’ stage, firstly, improving learners’ concentrations secondly, enhancing instructor’s skills lastly, monitoring rapport among entire participants were founded. Finally, In ‘comprehensive arrangement and reflection of the entire action’ stage, firstly, changing positive researcher’s perception of non-face-to-face online culture and arts education secondly, developing non-face-to-face online environment activity based on online web platforms were founded.

Disentangling causality: assumptions in causal discovery and inference

Causality has been a burgeoning field of research leading to the point where the literature abounds with different components addressing distinct parts of causality. For researchers, it has been increasingly difficult to discern the assumptions they have to abide by in order to glean sound conclusions from causal concepts or methods. This paper aims to disambiguate the different causal concepts that have emerged in causal inference and causal discovery from observational data by attributing them to different levels of Pearl’s Causal Hierarchy. We will provide the reader with a comprehensive arrangement of assumptions necessary to engage in causal reasoning at the desired level of the hierarchy. Therefore, the assumptions underlying each of these causal concepts will be emphasized and their concomitant graphical components will be examined. We show which assumptions are necessary to bridge the gaps between causal discovery, causal identification and causal inference from a parametric and a non-parametric perspective. Finally, this paper points to further research areas related to the strong assumptions that researchers have glibly adopted to take part in causal discovery, causal identification and causal inference.

Comprehensive Study of HCN: Potential Energy Surfaces, State-to-State Kinetics, and Master Equation Analysis.

Understanding the kinetics of the HCN system is critical to several disciplines in science and engineering, including interstellar chemistry, atmospheric reentry, and combustion, to name a few. This paper constructs a rovibrational state-specific kinetic mechanism for the HCN system, leveraging electronic structure calculations, classical scattering dynamics, and state-to-state kinetics. To this aim, three accurate potential energy surfaces (PESs), 1A', 3A', and 3A″, are constructed using multireference configuration interaction (MRCI) calculations for a comprehensive arrangement of the nuclei. Quasi-classical scattering calculations provide elementary reaction rate constants resulting from the interaction between the CN, CH, and NH molecules with H, N, and C atoms, respectively. The rovibrational collisional model developed comprises 50 million bound-bound and free-bound collisional processes. This model is used to study the dynamics of energy transfer and dissociation in an isochoric and isothermal chemical reactor via the solution of the master equation for a wide temperature range from 1000 to 10,000 K. This study unravels the dynamics of dissociation of the molecules in the HCN system, which the PESs primarily control via the formation of short-lived intermediates that shortcut the dissociation pathway. The exchange processes in CH and NH enhance the dissociation by over 80%. The importance of exchange processes is also highlighted in comparing the quasi-steady state and thermal dissociation rates with state-of-the-art rate models and experimental fits.

Legal Construction of Filling Vacancies in Representative Office Positions Due to Dissolution of Political Parties

Political parties are part of the embodiment of democracy. In the political context, its existence is very important as a liaison between a sovereign government and the people it leads. The Constitutional Court has the authority to dissolve political parties in Indonesia. So that there are 3 types of rulings in applying for the dissolution of a political party by the government to the Constitutional Court, one of which is that the application is granted. If the request is granted, in its decision the panel declares to dissolve and cancel the legal entity status of the political party. The implication is that the government removes these political parties from the list of political parties owned by the government. Furthermore, the dissolution of the political party has legal consequences, one of which is the vacancy of positions in the seats of representatives/legislators who are left behind. This study aims to examine the legal implications of the dissolution of political parties and the mechanism for filling vacancies in representative bodies. The method used is normative research using a statutory approach and a conceptual approach. The results of the study indicate that the legal implication of the dissolution of a political party is the existence of a vacancy in the representative body. Meanwhile, there is no comprehensive arrangement for overcoming the vacancies left by members of the legislature due to the dissolution of the political party.

Agrarian Reform Policy Strategy In Realizing The Welfare Of A Social Justice Community Based On The Constitution

Agrarian conflicts are still a legal problem in Indonesia. The presence of a strategy in the form of agrarian reform is expected to be able to make a real contribution to realizing social justice and people's prosperity for all Indonesian people. The implementation of agrarian reform is marked by a comprehensive arrangement of assets and access arrangements, so it is important to carry out a thorough evaluation of justice and community empowerment. The results obtained from this study indicate that the organizers of agrarian reform are expected to be able to ensure an increase in community welfare and realize social justice, either through the efforts of the Agrarian Reform Task Force (GTRA) or the Government which carries out a compromise strategy with ministries/agencies to ensure land rights through agrarian reform.

Political Apathy in Protecting Residential Environmental Problems in Banjarmasin City: Perspective from Residents in the Kelayan Riverbank

Settlement on the banks of the river in the city of Banjarmasin, requires a comprehensive arrangement. The support of the residents of the Kelayan riverbank is an absolute must. The Banjarmasin city government itself plays a role in implementing the environmental management of the Kelayan riverbank through two policies. Namely, arranging structurally and fostering culturally. It is hoped that these two mechanisms, apart from synergizing, also get maximum results in managing rivers in the city of Banjarmasin. For this reason, it is essential to see how residents perceive their settlements and the policies taken by the city government in managing them. This phenomenological research through FDG interviews showed that residents support every government effort and realize that their residential environmental problems need to be addressed through a structural and cultural approach.

DISASTER-PRONE SETTLEMENT ARRANGEMENT IN KAMPUNG BARU, SEMADAM SUBDISTRICT, SOUTHEAST ACEH REGENCY

Semadam Subdistrict in Aceh Tenggara District is the area where flash floods occur most frequently. One of the villages that is threatened with disaster is Kampung Baru Village. Flash floods occur every year but the government's steps have not been carried out completely. Therefore, it is very important to conduct a study of social, economic, physical and environmental aspects to determine the level of disaster vulnerability as a basis for conducting comprehensive arrangement of riverbanks and settlements in order to minimize losses. This research is a descriptive type of research, using a qualitative approach in describing the vulnerability and arrangement of flash floods- prone settlements. As a result, disaster vulnerability was obtained in the high category, so the arrangement carried out included rivers and settlements at the same time. The river is structured by: construction of a reservoir at the head of a river, widening of the riverbed, and reconstruction of a bridge. Meanwhile, settlements are arranged by providing green open space and engineering the transportation system

Enhancing chlorine resistance in polyamide membranes with surface & structure modification strategies

Abstract Higher efficient reverse osmosis (RO) membrane development is a significant issue due to the payoff among salt rejection and water flux and permissive chlorine attacking and fouling potential. Weak chlorine resistance is a distinctive challenge for composite polyamide thin-film reverse osmosis membranes. A commercial aromatic membrane was modified by grafting nitrogen-doped graphene oxide quantum dots (N-GOQDs) to enhance chlorine resistance, embedding two-dimensional MXene Ti3C2Tx, introducing synthetically reductive thioether units and oxidized graphitic carbon nitride (OGCN). In this work, salt rejection, chlorine resistance, and water flux increased compared to the pristine membrane. Comprehensive arrangement of desalination performance and chlorine resistance was achieved by varying time and concentrations of prepared chemicals. For instance, improved chlorine resistance, after 12 hours of grafting time by N-GOQDs doped membrane, was 32.8%, after 6 hours of exposure time by MXene Ti3C2Tx membrane was 27.4%, after 1 hour of exposure time by thioether membrane was 28.1% and after 40 hours of doping time by OGCN membrane was 31.3%. N-GOQDs doped membrane showed a good chlorine resistant property, but on the other hand, thioether nano units showed other properties more effectively, including water flux, salt rejection, and less reaction time.

A Critical Appraisal of The Anti-Piracy Law of Nigeria

Nigeria’s June 2019 law on piracy and other maritime offences is an important step in securing the country’s coastline and seas. The Ant-Piracy law on Suppression of Piracy and Other Maritime Offences Act, [1] 2019 (POMO Act) aims to ‘prevent and suppress piracy, armed robbery and any other unlawful act against a ship, aircraft and any other maritime craft, including fixed and floating platforms.’ It also observed that this law gives effect to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, 1982 (UNCLOS) and the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation, 1988 (SUA). Despite the enactment of this huge law and policies targeted at ameliorating the numerous problems at Nigeria’s coastline and seas, the situation in Nigeria seems degenerating owing to the fact that there are no adequate compliance of the laws as well as the ineffective implementation or enforcement of the law. This paper seeks to critically evaluate the impacts of the Act and also its weaknesses. It also discusses Nigeria’s capacity to implement its new law and detect and prosecute crimes. Analysis includes an evaluation of the steps taken by the governments of the region and the effectiveness of the implemented strategies to counter the threat posed by piracy in the region. In identifying the barriers and challenges to combat piracy, a comprehensive arrangement based effective cooperation is proposed in the paper. Implementasi Program Gerakan Indonesia Sadar Administrasi dalam Percepatan Kepemilikan Akta Kelahiran Usia 0-18 Tahun

In terms of fulfilling the rights and obligations of the residents of Langkat Regency in the field of civil registration of birth certificates, a comprehensive arrangement is needed to serve as guidelines and guidelines for all government officials in Langkat Regency. As the Minister of Home Affairs Instruction Number 470/837 / SJ 07 concerning the Administration of a Conscious Indonesia Movement (GISA) which aims to increase public awareness in the field of population administration, effective and efficient government and a competitive state. The local government is expected to fully support the program by creating an ideal ecosystem. This study aims to see the implementation of the Administrative Awareness Movement program in accelerating ownership of birth certificates aged 0-18 years in Langkat Regency. In this study, the research methodology used by the writers was a descriptive research method with a qualitative approach with the intention of focusing on the problems or phenomena that existed at the time the research was carried out. Key research informants were the Head of the Population and Civil Registry Office and the Head of the Civil Registration Division. Based on the results of the presentation and analysis of the data, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Administration Awareness Indonesia Movement program in accelerating the ownership of birth certificates aged 0-18 years in Langkat Regency is still not optimal, such as the communication process has not been maximal, limited resources, no budget for the program and there is a transition of structural officials.

Strategi Dalam Memajukan Industri Kreatif Dan Pengembangan Ekonomi Lokal (Studi Kasus Industri Kerajinan Seni Desa Tegallalang)

This study was aimed to determine strategies for solving capital and marketing problems, especially handicraft industries in Gianyar Regency. This research was a case study research using descriptive data analysis method, where this method was used to explain a phenomenon that occurs. The object of this research was the art craft industry in Tegallalang Village, Gianyar Regency. Based on the results of field surveys and literature studies, one of the factors that inhibits the empowerment of small craft industries in Bali and Indonesia in general is the lack of modern integrated management to support productivity and innovation in production. The situation that has occurred until now is that there has not been a comprehensive arrangement of the various components that drive small industries. The handicraft industry that mushroomed in Tegallang Village faced a variety of serious problems related to capital, marketing, and the innovations of the production of cepuk woven fabrics themselves. As a handicraft business, the absorption of labor is actually very large. Many rural residents still rely on this craft industry. But the problem of marketing this handicraft is still a problem that is not maximally developed. Based on these problems as for the strategy carried out is by implementing cooperation with partners, one of which is the Bali Partner Institute. Mitra Bali plays a strategic role as a facilitator in empowering craftsmen and developing their entrepreneurial spirit. Craftsmen are motivated to continue to produce designs for handicraft products, market their products overseas, and continually find ways to promote domestic and foreign promotions for their handicraft products. This condition is certainly very conducive for craftsmen to continue to develop their businesses. But for the future steps of the synergy of various parties (government, private sector, tourism actors, and craftsmen themselves) in empowering the handicraft industry, it is very important to develop.

La hipótesis formulada en este artículo está basada sobre un vasto conjunto de estudios acerca de la naturaleza y función del drama ateniense que han surgido tras el giro performativo. No obstante, mi objetivo es llevar esta teoría a otro nivel, suponiendo la composición deliberada de un arreglo coral integral y transversal de las odas que conforman una tragedia dada. Según esta propuesta, Esquilo, reconocido por la composición de “superodas”, organizó sus obras sobre la base de una suerte de circuito, de un “itinerario ritual”, a través del cual las odas urden la trama. Para demostrar la factibilidad de mi hipótesis, analizo como ejemplo la composición equilibrada de las odas inicial y final de Suplicantes.

Ground-Level Mapping and Navigating for Agriculture Based on IoT and Computer Vision

Autonomous agricultural systems are a promising solution to bridge the gap between labor shortage for agriculture tasks and the continuing needs for increasing productivity in agriculture. Automated mapping and navigation system will be a cornerstone of most autonomous agricultural system. Accordingly, we propose a ground-level mapping and navigating system based on computer vision technology (Mesh Simultaneous Localization and Mapping algorithm, Mesh-SLAM) and Internet of Things (IoT), to generate a 3D farm map on both the edge side and cloud. The innovation of this system includes three layers as sub-systems that are 1) ground-level robot vehicles’ layer for conducting frames collection only with a monocular camera, 2) edge node layer for image feature data edge computing and communication, and 3) cloud layer for general management and deep computing. High efficiency and speed of mapping stage are enabled by making the robot vehicles directly stream continuous frames to their corresponding edge node. Then each edge node, that coordinate a certain range of robots, applies a new Mesh-SLAM frame by frame, whose core is reconstructing the features map by a mesh-based algorithm with scalable units and reduce the feature data size by a filtering algorithm. Additionally, the cloud-computing allows comprehensive arrangement and heavily deep computing. The system is scalable to larger-scale fields and more complex environment by taking advantage of dynamically distributing the computation power to edges. Our evaluation indicates that: 1) this Mesh-SLAM algorithm outperforms in mapping and localization precision, accuracy, and yield prediction error (resolution at centimeter); and 2) The scalability and flexibility of the IoT architecture make the system modularized, easy adding/removing new functional modules or IoT sensors. We conclude the trade-off between cost and performance widely augments the feasibility and practical implementation of this system in real farms.

Status of Communities Around Forests in Management of Forests Based on Regional Authority in the Order of Regional Autonomy (Study in Kalimantan Island)

RESEARCH on the Position of Communities Around Forests in Forest Management Based on Regional Authorities in the Context of Regional Autonomy (Study on Kalimantan Island) is carried out based on normative legal research methods . from search and analysis, that the management of foresdtry example contained in Law No. 41 of 1999 has progressed because regional authority over forest management is wider than the previous law. This is a manifestation of the increasingly greater authority given to the region to manage the forests in its area. In the management of the forest , there is a concern for the people and the management of the forest and the environment has been integrated. It this become an important part in the efforts for members of the Dayak and forestry accordance with the principles of the management of natural resources are limited. The community's rights in managing forests are protected and recognized so that forest management becomes part of the development of indigenous peoples. This condition is a proof of the respect of indigenous peoples for forests that are already dependent on forests for their potential for life. For it in order to involve the public on the responsibilities and benefits of management forestry, then the public about enforced Dayak late to get involved in the management of the forest . The empowerment of the community by always taking into account the integrative potential of the forest and its future development as a limited natural resource. For this role Concession rights holders Forests are very important in preserving the forest . It is the logging concessions that have great potential to exploit forests because of the complete infrastructure for this. Concession holders were members activities Dayak and forest must consider the condition of the forest , especially for the future. In this case, the integration of handling the problems that arise as a result of exploitation of forests is still not optimal. There are regional authorities which have not been properly implemented due to various regional limitations that are based on the limitations of human resources . In connection with the above, it is necessary to have a regulation that clearly explains the concept of forest management according to Law No. 41 of 1999, so that forest management is truly realized and can bring benefits to the environment and surrounding communities. For this reason, it is also necessary clarify the authority regarding forest management between regencies / cities and provinces. This is to prevent the overlapping of the exercise of authority held by the two institutions specifically with the existence of regional autonomy. Likewise, there needs to be a more concrete affirmation in the legislation regarding the rights of indigenous peoples to forests so that their involvement in forest management for Dayak and community members becomes evident. This is to prevent the continued domination of Forest Concession Rights (HPH) holders over the forest . There is a need for more concrete clarification regarding the implementation of government and provincial government and district / city government implementation by implementing empowerment properly. Here a more comprehensive arrangement is needed for regulations relating to the issuance of Forest Concession Rights (HPH) permits, which are located across regencies / cities where prior to issuance of permits, recommendations from the Regent / Mayor are required. In addition to the fundamental is the regulation that lays policy that regulate more clearly the implementation of the manager 's forests are in line with the Law number: 32 Year 2004 About Regional Government with all amendments thereto.
