THE IMPACT OF FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT ON THE CHANGE IN THAILAND'S INDUSTRIAL STRUCTURE

<p>Foreign direct investment (FDI) has played a significant role in Thailand's economic development. This study utilizes the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to analyse the impact of FDI on the change in Thailand's industrial structure. Based on the analysis results of the VECM model, it is evident that the impact of FDI on these changes is slightly smaller than that of the industrial structure itself; it is also positive. Both the industrial structure itself and FDI have long-term positive promoting effects on the change in Thailand's industrial structure. Furthermore, the impact of GDP per capita, imports and exports on changes in the industrial structure is subject to volatility. Initially, GDP per capita, imports, and exports had a short-term positive promoting effect on Thailand's industrial structure change. “Two Mountains concept” leading the green transformation of China's economic society

The rapid urbanization are serious threats to global sustainable development, making the green transformation of socio-economy and industry a must for global efforts. The theory of ecological and economic harmonization in ecological economics has gained attention. However the Two Mountains concept, i.e., “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, has been mostly neglected as a practical demonstration of the theory. In this study an equal weights method is used to construct an index system for testing the effectiveness of the ongoing practices and demonstrations of the Two Mountains concept, and whether it can achieve the expected green transformation objectives. A total of 421 pilot cases and 208 surrounding non-pilot cases in China from 2010 to 2020 are selected for analysis. The results indicate that: (1) From 2010 to 2020, overall 98.33% of pilots show positive improvement in comprehensive effectiveness; (2) Strong evidence indicate that the positive externality of the demonstrations extends to their surrounding region, mainly manifested in the impact of industrial structure change, inspiring collaboration between cities; (3) Such ambitious green transformation has a significant impact on landscape characteristics, which emphasizes the role of landscape management and monitoring. Therefore, this study proposes an industrial integration framework to enhance the transformation of ecosystem service values, to facilitate transition to a green economy in various regions globally. It provides significant managerial insights and practical expertise. The demonstration of China's Two Mountains concept can offer reliable empirical cases to enrich the theory of ecological economics and global sustainable development.

The impact of technological innovation on the green digital economy and development strategies.

To investigate the interplay among technological innovation, industrial structure, production methodologies, economic growth, and environmental consequences within the paradigm of a green economy and to put forth strategies for sustainable development, this study scrutinizes the limitations inherent in conventional deep learning networks. Firstly, this study analyzes the limitations and optimization strategies of multi-layer perceptron (MLP) networks under the background of the green economy. Secondly, the MLP network model is optimized, and the dynamic analysis of the impact of technological innovation on the digital economy is discussed. Finally, the effectiveness of the optimization model is verified by experiments. Moreover, a sustainable development strategy based on dynamic analysis is also proposed. The experimental results reveal that, in comparison to traditional Linear Regression (LR), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Naive Bayes (NB) models, the optimized model in this study demonstrates improved performance across various metrics. With a sample size of 500, the optimized model achieves a prediction accuracy of 97.2% for forecasting future trends, representing an average increase of 14.6%. Precision reaches 95.4%, reflecting an average enhancement of 19.2%, while sensitivity attains 84.1%, with an average improvement of 11.8%. The mean absolute error is only 1.16, exhibiting a 1.4 reduction compared to traditional models and confirming the effectiveness of the optimized model in prediction. In the examination of changes in industrial structure using 2020 data to forecast the output value of traditional and green industries in 2030, it is observed that the output value of traditional industries is anticipated to decrease, with an average decline of 11.4 billion yuan. Conversely, propelled by the development of the digital economy, the output value of green industries is expected to increase, with an average growth of 23.4 billion yuan. This shift in industrial structure aligns with the principles and trends of the green economy, further promoting sustainable development. In the study of innovative production methods, the green industry has achieved an increase in output and significantly enhanced production efficiency, showing an average growth of 2.135 million tons compared to the average in 2020. Consequently, this study highlights the dynamic impact of technological innovation on the digital economy and its crucial role within the context of a green economy. It holds certain reference significance for research on the dynamic effects of the digital economy under technological innovation.

Security evaluation of China's indium industrial chain: Perspective on substance flow throughout the whole life cycle

As the world's largest supplier of primary indium, China's indium industrial chain structure and demand change affect global supply. It is necessary to evaluate the security of China's indium industrial chain and determine the reasons that affect security. The past substance flow analysis (SFA) of indium and mineral industrial chain security evaluation has problems such as a lack of timeliness, a single dimension mainly focusing on the upstream, and simple evaluation methods. In this paper, based on the SFA, an integrated evaluation system for the whole life cycle is constructed from 2000 to 2022 according to mineral industrial chain security characteristics. The results show that since introducing liquid crystal in 2003, China's indium industrial chain security level has been low despite a slight increase. Although China has gradually broken through the production technology of high-purity indium and indium tin oxide (ITO) targets, the large consumption and export of refined indium has reduced China's indium metal stock to 2214 t, while the resource reserves advantage is also diminishing. Mass consumption has also led China to import more ores, while China still imports high-end products from other countries with high import source concentrations. The pollutants emitted by the large production and the declining environmental governance level pose a significant environmental threat. Finally, suggestions for strengthening international cooperation, increasing technological research, establishing a reserve system, risk monitoring mechanisms, and strict emission standards can improve China's indium industrial chain security.

Bureaucratic transfers and industrial structure changes in China: The role of superstar firms

This paper examines how local industrial structure changes after bureaucratic transfers across Chinese cities. Utilizing firm-level data within the manufacturing sector, we show a positive and significant effect of transferred local leaders on the industrial similarity between cities connected by them, and this response arises 3 years after the transfers. However, when transferring between cities with notable disparities in resource endowments, local leaders induce diminished industrial similarity among connected cities. Our mechanism analyses then find that, after transferred leaders arrive, new superstar firms are more likely to be attracted to their current jurisdictions and new industries in which their previous jurisdictions have already superstar firms tend to be developed in the current jurisdictions, thus making the industrial structure between the connected cities more similar. Furthermore, we find that transferred local leaders contribute to the synchronization of regional economic growth through facilitating the diffusion of productive capabilities across cities.

The impact of poverty alleviation policy on the industrial structure: Evidence from the Qinba Mountain contiguous poverty-stricken areas

In 2015, the Chinese government issued the Decision on Poverty Alleviation(DPA), requiring poverty-stricken areas to develop local characteristic industries based on their resource endowments, to promote industrial structure diversification and industrial structure upgrading through industry-driven poverty alleviation. However, existing research lacks empirical analysis to evaluate it. Therefore, this paper takes poor counties in the Qinba Mountain contiguous poverty-stricken areas(QMCPA) as an example, using the difference in difference model and boundary effect model to evaluate whether DPA has promoted industrial structure upgrading and industrial structure diversification in poor counties. The results show that the DPA has promoted industrial structure upgrading and improved industrial structure diversification in the QMCPA. However, the effectiveness of it is not sufficient. Poor counties have failed to maintain the policy requirement of developing characteristic industries based on local natural resource endowments, leading to a decline in the degree of industrial structure diversification in the later period of the policy. This study indicates that local governments should strive to develop advantageous industries and form a division of labor and cooperation with neighboring areas, strengthen inter-regional cooperation and contact, and enhance anti-risk capabilities to avoid homogenized competition. Studying the changes in industrial structure in the QMCPA has important significance for the long-term stable development and poverty elimination of various poor areas.

Research on Provincial Distribution of Total Carbon Emissions in the Power Generation Industry under Carbon Neutrality Constraints

The power generation industry in China is at the forefront of implementing carbon trading market policies, playing a crucial role in carbon emission reduction. Carbon allocation in each province is pivotal for future economic development and achieving a gradual and orderly carbon peak. By analyzing total carbon emissions from 2012 to 2021 and examining emission responsibilities from a producer perspective, this study extends the STIRPAT model to evaluate factors influencing carbon emissions in the national and provincial power generation sectors. Key findings highlight the urgent need for industrial structure changes in provinces like Xinjiang, Tibet, Guangdong, Shandong, and Jiangsu, which bear significant emission reduction responsibilities. The spatial and temporal distribution of carbon emissions is shifting from the southeast coast to central and western regions. Factors such as energy consumption, electric power intensity, urbanization rate, power structure, economic development level, and industrial composition significantly impact carbon emissions. To achieve carbon peak goals, a multifaceted approach is essential for reducing emissions in China's power generation sector, emphasizing the need for strategic interventions across various perspectives.

Environmental regulation, outward foreign direct investment, and China’s green total factor productivity

AbstractIncreasing green total factor productivity (GTFP) is currently the primary goal of sustainable development worldwide. GTFP not only reflects the efficiency of economic expansion but also encompasses resource consumption and pollution. This research enhances the current understanding of GTFP by indicating that aside from reverse technology spillovers, labor mobility, and changes in industrial structure, additional factors, such as environmental regulations, exert a dynamic function in shaping the influence of outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) on the GTFP of the home nation. The empirical findings indicate that OFDI has a single threshold effect on GTFP, and the negative effect increases with the reinforcing of environmental control. The main impact comes from home country’s changes in green technology (GTC) rather than changes in green efficiency. Additionally, environmental regulation has a positive moderating effect on OFDI, the moderating effect of environmental regulation in western regions is more pronounced in promoting the home country’s GTC. It is imperative to take into account regional variations and devise distinct policies for eastern, central, and western regions.

Does aging affect renewable energy? The role of extreme events and economic development

The world population structure and the global energy system are undergoing profound changes. Research on the relationships between population structure and energy changes is necessary for global sustainable development. This research mainly investigates the impact of aging on renewable energy development by using the data of 212 countries from 2000 to 2021 and further discusses the demand and supply mechanism between aging and renewable energy development. Then the heterogeneity analysis is introduced to seek the role of extreme events within the influence of aging on renewable energy development. The panel results support the positive impact of aging on renewable energy development. Moreover, the mechanism of industrial structure upgrading and consumer demand have been proved. Finally, the impact of aging on renewable energy development is different in the heterogeneity analysis of extreme events. In particular, the extreme events of earthquake and flood weaken the positive impact of aging on renewable energy development. This research shows that aging and coping with climate change are not antithetical, aging can contribute to the development of renewable energy development by inducing demand and changing industrial structure upgrading. The key is an active aging policy.

Constructing a student development model for undergraduate vocational universities in China using the Fuzzy Delphi Method and Analytic Hierarchy Process.

As the industrial structure changes, the severe shortage of high-quality technical and skilled talent in China is one of the most significant factors affecting the high-quality development of China's economy. Bridging the gap between cultivating talent from new undergraduate vocational universities and the demand for industrial talent is regarded as an efficient strategy to address the talent shortage. In addressing the gap, China is hindered by a lack of clarity regarding student development goals and effective assessment instruments. Thus, this study aimed to use the Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM) and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to overcome the above challenges. Specifically, we used the FDM to establish a five-level undergraduate vocational education student development model with two 2nd-level indicators, three 3rd-level indicators, eight 4th-level indicators, and 33 5th-level indicators to clarify student development goals. Then, the AHP was applied to determine the indicator weights, and a student development assessment instrument was developed to help universities acquire student development data and improve the matching degree between talent supply and demand. This study could help undergraduate vocational universities cultivate high-quality technical and skilled talent quickly to meet the demand for China's new economic system and to promote industry independence and global competitiveness.

Impact of Energy Usage, Economic Growth and Structural Industry Changes on Carbon Emissions in Bangladesh

This study examines the dynamic relationship between carbon (CO2) emissions and energy usage, economic growth, and the changing industry structure in Bangladesh using annual time series data from 1972 to 2020. To this end, the ARDL Bound co-integration approach as well as the ECM method were employed to analyze the dynamics in the long and short run respectively. The findings reveal a strong positive long-run association between CO2 emissions, economic growth, industry value added and GDP. For agriculture and services value added, no significant long-run relationship could be found. However, both industrial and service sectors show dynamism in the short run indicating that structural industry changes are already reducing CO2 emissions. Thus, the pressing concerns regarding the increase in emissions and the imperative to achieve its growth potential, Bangladesh ought to foster innovative technological, economic, and social solutions that can harmonize energy-intensive development with a heightened emphasis on clean energy adoption, energy conservation initiatives, and efficiency enhancements.

Unleashing China's coal conservation potentials by analyzing efficiency of energy intensive industries: A Logarithm Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) model

Considering China's ambitions for carbon peaking as of 2030 to ensure environmental protection and energy security, the present study is intended to explore sustainable pathways to reduce coal consumption by enhancing energy efficiency. The current article estimates coal consumption efficiency and radial super-efficiency by applying DEA-CCR and radial super-efficiency models. In the second stage, the Logarithm Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) and DEA-Malmquist models were used to explore the components of coal consumption in China's six key energy-intensive industries from 2000 to 2020. Findings indicate that (1) there is a substantial coal consumption efficiency gap among these industries, and they are working well below the production frontier. (2) Findings of DEA-Malmquist indicate that technological changes positively contributed to total productivity changes, while technical efficiency negatively impacted coal consumption growth. (3) The results of the LMDI model reveal that industrial output growth and structural changes are the key factors accelerating coal consumption. In contrast, the coal intensity had deaccelerated the coal consumption in the energy intensive industries. The current study provides several policy proposals to enhance coal conservation and consumption efficiency to achieve the aspiring goals of sustainable development.

Environmental regulation, land use efficiency and industrial structure upgrading: Test analysis based on spatial durbin model and threshold effect

Environmental regulation promotes industrial structure change and regional economic transformation through land use adjustment, which gets a new way to explore the path of reforming traditional industrialization and urbanization. Based on the panel data of 128 prefecture-level cities in China 's Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2000 to 2020, this paper uses the spatial Dubin model to analyze the impact of environmental regulation and land use efficiency on the upgrading of industrial structure, and sets the panel threshold model to examine the impact of environmental regulation on the upgrading of industrial structure by affecting land use efficiency. The results show that formal environmental regulation has a significant positive spatial effect on the rationalization and upgrading of industrial structure, which are 0.1734 and 0.2854 respectively. Informal environmental regulation has a negative spillover effect on neighboring provinces but not significant. Heterogeneous environmental regulation has obvious “double threshold effect” on industrial upgrading by affecting land use efficiency. When the threshold of environmental regulation intensity is 0.0315–0.0886, environmental regulation still inhibits land use efficiency and industrial structure upgrading. When the threshold value is greater than 0.0886, environmental regulation has a positive impact on land use efficiency but not significant. With the intensity of environmental regulation from weak to strong, it will produce a double threshold effect of “strong inhibition-weak inhibition-interaction promotion” on the upgrading of manufacturing structure through the adjustment of land use efficiency.

The Temporal–Spatial Evolution Characteristics and Influential Factors of Carbon Imbalance in China

The ongoing progress of industrialization and urbanization has exacerbated the imbalance between carbon emissions and absorption, leading to heightened risks of climate change, such as frequent occurrences of extreme weather events. Clarifying the driving forces and temporal–spatial evolution characteristics of China’s carbon balance holds significant theoretical value in understanding the systemic nature and patterns of interaction between carbon emissions and absorption. We utilize provincial panel data from 2005 to 2021 in China and a spatial Durbin model to explore the spatial spillover effects of carbon imbalance and its influencing factors. The results indicate a gradual exacerbation of carbon imbalance in China over time. There exists a spatially positive correlation pattern in provincial carbon imbalance distribution. From 2005 to 2010, intra-regional differences in carbon imbalance levels were a significant contributor to China’s overall carbon imbalance disparity, while from 2011 to 2019, inter-regional differences played a more substantial role. Given the apparent phenomena of population aggregation, industrial concentration, and economic interdependence among provinces, changes in population size, economic growth, and industrial structure exacerbate the level of carbon imbalance in spatially correlated regions. Conversely, due to knowledge and technology spillovers, improvements in energy efficiency facilitated by the flow of production factors like capital aid in the governance of carbon imbalance in spatially associated areas. We emphasize that local governments should focus on a regional integration perspective in carbon imbalance governance and strategically coordinate with neighboring provinces and cities to advance carbon imbalance governance. The findings provide theoretical support for understanding and effectively managing the situation of carbon imbalance in China.

Impact of changes in energy structure and industrial structure on green total factor productivity in the context of environmental protection-evidence from China.

To achieve high-quality economic development in the process of promoting the development of China's environment quality, and green economy, green total factor productivity is an important indicator to measure high-quality economic development. Therefore, it is of great significance to study the impact of changes in energy and industrial structure on green total factors. Each specific province in China is taken as the research object, and the green total factor productivity index into green technology efficiency and green technology progress are decomposed in this paper. On the basis of constructing the industrial structure upgrading index and energy structure upgrading index, a fixed-effect model and threshold regression model are used to analyze the influence of industrial structure and energy structure on green total factor productivity and its internal mechanism. Results shows that green total factor productivity, industrial structure and energy structure all show a trend of "continuous rise in small fluctuations," but there is a spatial disequilibrium; the upgrading and optimization of industrial structure and energy structure can effectively promote the improvement of green total factor productivity, and the growth mainly comes from the improvement of green technology progress, not the improvement of green technology efficiency; the impact of the improvement of industrial structure and energy structure on green technology efficiency has a significant nonlinear trend of increasing marginal effect; the upgrading of the industrial structure has a stronger role in promoting green total factor productivity in the central and western regions than in the eastern region; while the optimization of the energy structure has a significant promoting effect on green total factor productivity in the eastern region, but has a certain inhibitory effect on the central and western regions.

The Relationship Between the Changes in Landscaping and Economic Development in Taiyuan

This study is based on the development process of Taiyuan in the past ten years, combined with the basic policy of the state on urban planning and development. The changes in Taiyuan's industrial structure are expounded to lead to the environmental pollution caused by Taiyuan's use of heavy industry as the core of economic development. Explain the benefits of landscaping on pollution control. It also explores the direct impact of landscaping on the environment of Taiyuan and the indirect impact on the economic development of Taiyuan. It is found that there is a positive influence between the two. In addition, this article introduces the world-renowned garden building ‘Punggol Town’, compares the climate, terrain and other conditions of the two places, and analyses the feasibility of Taiyuan's direct imitation. Although Taiyuan cannot use the development model of ‘Punggol Town’, landscaping still has a broad development prospect in the economic development of Taiyuan. This article aims to introduce the relationship between landscaping and the economic development of Taiyuan in an easy-to-understand way, and to study and discuss it.

A slowdown in economic growth implies the need to identify driver industries that will ensure the development on a new basis. The study aims to analyse industrial structural changes in the economy of the Udmurt Republic in the context of consolidated types of economic activity. It is suggested that shifts in the industrial structure of gross regional product (GRP) of the Udmurt Republic did not accelerate its economic growth. To achieve the set goal, theoretical aspects of structural changes were examined, a retrospective analysis of statistical data for 2004–2021 was performed. A modified methodology of dynamic macrostructural analysis was applied to study structural changes along with economic growth rate. Historical background of the industrial structure formation was analysed. When assessing the quality of structural changes, the index of physical volume of GRP per capita was used instead of GRP. Additionally, the study introduced the concept of “structural determinant of economic growth”. The conduced analysis revealed two structural lags and four small periods, characterised by a certain ratio of manufacturing and mining industries, in which five significant structural shifts occurred. The region’s industrial economic structure is the result of natural, geographical and political factors. Structural changes in the examined period, being a consequence of the volatility of world oil prices, did not ensure long-term economic growth or a fundamental transformation of the technological structure of the regional industry. The obtained results can be used to develop regional structural policies from the perspective of driver industries and ensure sustainable economic growth. Future studies should substantiate the “optimality” of regional economic structure, considering the interdependence of industries and integration into the national production system.

Regional economic dispatch analysis and industry chain optimization based on proximal strategy optimization algorithm

Abstract In this paper, the traditional proximal strategy optimization algorithm is improved based on traction technology to address the poor efficiency of the conventional proximal strategy optimization algorithm in analyzing regional economic scheduling and industrial chain optimization. The focus is on finding the optimal solution by applying this algorithm in the spatio-temporal coupling characteristics of new infrastructure and regional economic dispatch, the simulation of changes in regional industrial structure and the allocation of industrial chain. The experimental analysis not only verifies the effectiveness of the improved algorithm, but also shows that the level of new infrastructure development shows a specific positive correlation with the degree of development of regional economic dispatch, with a growth rate of 29.26% in 2021. Under the influence of different industrial scenarios and policies, there are significant differences in the path and speed of industrial structure change FPPO-QP algorithm is also above 44Mdps in V2I capacity performance under the interference of 3.5×1060Bytes. In contrast, the performance of the FPPO-LP algorithm has declined. Therefore, the improved algorithm can effectively apply to regional economic dispatch analysis and industrial chain optimization.
