This research is an attempt to empirically analyze how the variables, organizational support for employees’ professional skill development and their self-learning attitude impacts the career success of employees working in the IT sector. Career success has been measured using 8 constructs namely, recognition, authenticity, growth and development, personal life, influence, satisfaction, quality work and meaningful work. Career success acts as the dependent variable. Organizational support and self-learning attitude are the independent variables. The study also attempts to determine if a background from which a person has originated, in other terms, the place of education of the person impacts the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Background is measured using a dichotomous variable with options in the instrument as ‘Rural’ and ‘Urban’. Quantitative data is collected from 418 professionals working in the IT sector of Indian companies. Structured equation modeling was used to analyze the data collected. AMOS and SPSS have been used to analyze the data. The results of the analysis show that the place of education or the background from which a person is brought up does not moderate the relationship between self-learning attitude and career growth at organizations.
