Analisis Kelayakan Usaha dan Nilai Tambah Olahan Kedelai Menjadi Tempe pada UMKM Super Murni Kecamatan Bekasi Selatan Kota Bekasi

Agriculture plays an important role in providing food sources that support the survival of society. The growth of the agro-industrial sector not only provides economic benefits for businesses but also contributes to improving the welfare of farmers and the sustainability of the agricultural sector as a whole. Soybean as a multifunctional crop can be utilised to make various culinary delights including tempeh, a traditional Indonesian food. The main objective of this study, conducted by Super Murni MSME, is to evaluate the added value contributed in one production and the business feasibility of tempe production at Super Murni MSME. By considering prices, inputs, and outputs, a value-added analysis approach using the Hayami method and R/C ratio is needed to determine the feasibility of the company. The results showed that the added value required by Super Murni MSMEs in one production of tempe geblekan reached IDR 23,072 or around 61%, using the value-added ratio, the margin obtained reached IDR 21,348 for tempe geblekan. As for tempe lonjoran, the added value is IDR 35,372 or around 71%, with a profit of IDR 31,205. The calculation of business feasibility using the R/C ratio shows a figure of 1.25 for tempe geblekan which indicates that the Company can develop based on the R/C ratio criteria and an R/C ratio of 1.00 for tempe lonjoran which indicates that this business can be developed because it does not experience losses or profits (break-even) to be operated.

THE WHY AND WHAT OF AI DEPLOYMENT AND INNOVATION IN COMPANIES — RESULTS AND LEARNINGS FROM A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE RESEARCH ENLIGHTENED BY THE CAPABILITY THEORY

Despite soaring interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI), only one-tenth of companies have reported tangible business results. We conducted a Systematic Literature Research on peer-reviewed reports to establish an updated status and baseline of AI deployment for research and companies. We analysed selected peer-reviewed articles for deployment objectives, approaches, results, and learnings. This research confirms that AI is still at the early stages of deployment and innovation in companies. Deploying AI successfully represents a management — rather than a technology — challenge. It requires more cognisance, innovation, learning, and effort than generally thought. Through the results and a novel conceptual framework, this research increases the knowledge and emphasises the importance of the pre-deployment from theoretical and practical viewpoints. The Sensing stage of the Dynamic Capability theory aligns well with the developed pre-deployment concept. We propose several research topics to increase the knowledge and theoretical understanding of deploying AI cognisably for business and stakeholder benefits.

Sudan's catastrophe: the role of changing dynamics of food and power in the Gezira agricultural scheme.

This article explores the role of historical, political, and economic processes in understanding war and famine in Sudan after 2023. The focus is on Al-Gezira, the site of Sudan's largest agricultural scheme. Using ethnography, interviews, and document reviews, the study analyses the Gezira irrigation project in three phases. First, the 1980s and 1990s, when patronage politics dominated its management. Second, the neoliberal strategies of the Gezira Scheme Act of 2005, which enabled Islamist profiteering while increasing vulnerability among farmers and labourers and tensions between them. Third, post 2018, when political movements used evidence of the scheme's deterioration to call for revolution, but once achieved, previous tensions grew and have been manipulated during the war. Sudan provides an example of how decades of war and neoliberal economic strategies have led to a deeply-rooted, violent, and extractive political economy. This has been to the benefit of business and elites, leaving many to a life of precarity, exploitation, and hunger.

Impact of Emotional Well-being on Job Performance: A Study Based on Service Sector Professionals

Emotional well-being is an important part of holistic wellness. Emotional well-being involves an individual's overall positive feelings and their general outlook on life. By investing in the emotional well-being of their employees, firms can get significant business benefits such as improved performance, productivity, and commitment from employees, which in turn lowers attrition rates. The study aims to empirically investigate the factors influencing emotional well-being and their impact on the job performance of service sector professionals. A survey method was employed to gather responses from professionals in the service sector across various industries. The collected data, comprising 318 responses, underwent analysis using the partial least squares structural equation modelling approach. The findings from the study establish personality traits, Mindfulness and Resilience as factors affecting emotional well-being and a positive impact on job performance is observed. This study helps organisations understand that increasing the emotional well-being of professionals is one of the important parameters for their job performance. Future researchers may try to explore the other factors affecting emotional well-being and their impact on job performance.

Interdependence of halal entrepreneurship and Islamic finance for creating a strong halal ecosystem

Purpose Ethical entrepreneurship and financing models based on Islamic principles are insufficiently researched and discussed in the emerging plural economic landscape. So far, Islamic theorists have made commendable efforts in this direction. To fill the knowledge gaps, this study aims to explore more rigorously the interdependence of halal entrepreneurship and Islamic finance in creating a strong halal ecosystem. Design/methodology/approach Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology, a systematic literature review (SLR) of 33 articles from 2001 to 2024 was conducted to answer three research questions. Publications were obtained using purposive sampling from the Scopus database. They were selected based on the ranking of high-quality journals, global coverage relevance to research and base years of publications. Findings Three key findings emerged from the SLR using the PRISMA protocol. First, halal entrepreneurship and Islamic finance complement each other by providing Shari’ah-compliant financial instruments, fostering ethical practices, enhancing market reach and ensuring business operations adhere to Islamic principles, thereby creating a cohesive halal ecosystem. Second, the strategic integration of halal entrepreneurship and Islamic finance – through innovation, sustainability practices, Shari’ah-compliant products, effective marketing and regulatory support – promotes economic growth, social welfare and sustainable development within the halal ecosystem. Third, Maqasid-ul Shari’ah principles guide halal entrepreneurship and Islamic finance by ensuring ethical standards, promoting social justice, emphasizing sustainability and ensuring that business and financial practices benefit society and adhere to Islamic ethical standards. These findings aid in developing a theoretically grounded conceptual framework for future empirical investigation. Practical implications Practically, policymakers, Islamic financial institutions and halal entrepreneurs can leverage this integrated approach to drive economic growth, social welfare and sustainable development, aligning operations with Maqasid-ul Shari’ah to ensure ethical standards and societal benefits. In addition, the findings aid in developing a theoretically grounded conceptual framework for future empirical investigation, both theoretically and methodologically. Originality/value Given the paucity of studies in this multidisciplinary area, this paper offers new insights into the interdependence of halal entrepreneurship and Islamic finance, grounded in the finance–growth nexus theory and Maqasid-ul Shari’ah principles. Unlike other exploratory studies, this research presents a theoretically grounded conceptual framework, paving the way for future empirical investigations.

ADVERGAMING MARKETING – A NEW AND EFFECTIVE BRAND COMMUNICATION TOOL

Currently, there are many effective marketing communication tools, such as social media marketing, email marketing, video marketing, content marketing, and influencer collaborations. However, the recent boom in the online gaming market has created a significant opportunity for marketers to implement marketing communication activities through online games (commonly called Advergaming Marketing or simply Advergaming, hereinafter abbreviated as Advergaming). Advergaming is a process that combines advertising and gaming, merging marketing communication with games as forms of both entertainment and culture. To effectively leverage the benefits of Advergaming, theoretical issues such as its definition, business benefits, methods, and application in brand communication must be clarified. Using appropriate scientific research methods, such as desk research and theoretical development, the author will clarify theoretical issues related to branding and brand communication through online games. Key points for applying Advergaming to brand communication in businesses today will also be proposed.

The Metaverse In Tourism

Purpose of the study: This study evaluates the metaverse and the technologies used within the tourism and hospitality sectors. Additionally, it provides an in-depth analysis of the areas in which these technologies are applied in tourism, as well as their contributions to the field. Methodology: To evaluate the role and effects of metaverse technology in the tourism sector, qualitative methods are utilized. A literature review was conducted as a data collection tool, and the information obtained from the literature review was interpreted in accordance with the purpose of the research. Main Findings: The main conclusion of this study is that the effective use of the metaverse in tourism will provide significant benefits for both businesses and tourists. This technology, with its potential to enhance the travel experience, is expected to become increasingly common in the future, offering a promising future for the tourism sector. Applications of the study: The adoption and integration of technological innovations are expected to significantly impact the dynamics of the tourism industry. Studies emphasize that metaverse innovations have not yet reached sufficient mass. However, there are also concerns that, in some cases, the metaverse could hinder the physical travel industry. Tourists experiencing a destination or even an airplane in a virtual environment may reduce their motivation to travel physically. In conclusion, technological innovations such as virtual reality and the metaverse present opportunities and threats for the tourism industry. Novelty/Originality of the study: The research's originality lies in its detailed exploration of the use of metaverse in the tourism sector. In addition, detailed evaluations of the usage areas and contributions of metaverse-related technologies in tourism are included. Therefore, it is thought that this study will not only contribute to the related literature but also guide researchers, sector employees, and other interested parties.

Performance of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises: Insights from Social Media Usage in Juba City, South Sudan

Small and Medium Enterprises are the main forces behind economic growth, social progress, and job creation in South Sudan. Business and customers benefit from using social platform on increasing their daily business operations. However, enterprises in South Sudan are performing poorly since there was a reduction in businesses output from 58% in 2017 to 30% in 2021. Thus, the study looked into how social media usage affected the performance of small and medium-sized businesses in Juba City, South Sudan. The specific objectives were to assess how small and medium-sized firms' performance was affected by their use of social media for marketing, customer relations, social media interactions, and information search. The study also examined the moderating effect of government regulations on the relationship between social media usage and the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises. The study was anchored on Resource- Based View, media richness theory and regulatory capture theory. The study employed an explanatory research design and target population was 252 small and medium-sized enterprises in Juba City; 154 firms were selected using simple random sampling. Structured questionnaire was employed to collect data. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study found that the performance was positively and significantly affected by the use of social media for information search, social media interactions, social media usage and customer relations, and social media marketing. The study also established that social media usage and firm performance were affected by government regulations. The study concluded that social media usage contributes significantly to enhanced performance of small and medium enterprises. The researcher recommends that small and medium enterprises management should ensure they integrate the social media applications in their management systems. The researcher also recommends that in order to improve their performance on social media, small and medium enterprises identify their areas of strength and weakness. The management should employ modem technology in order to gain from data transfer, emailing, and texting while implementing a social media workforce. The government of South Sudan should ensure that suitable information technology training is offered to small and medium enterprises’ owners for the adoption of social media and other technological innovations.

Overcoming the pitfalls of economies-of-scale in shared accommodation: How can effective multi-listing management enhance the sustainability of homestay businesses?

Economies-of-scale have always been a significant concern, but previous theoretical studies have primarily focused on the traditional manufacturing industry. Consequently, their findings are not directly applicable to the tertiary sector, particularly the hospitality service industry. The hospitality service operates in a high-risk environment and is susceptible to market exits. Therefore, it becomes even more crucial to effectively leverage economies of scale for improving survival rates and long-term operations. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of economies of scale theory in the hospitality industry by examining how sharing accommodation’s economies-of-scale impact personalized and professionalized homestay businesses’ survival. To achieve this objective, we analyze a panel dataset comprising 551,605 properties located in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Austin using panel survival analysis techniques such as the Cox model and the exponential model. The findings indicate that economies-of-scale can confer short-term survival advantages to professional homestay businesses in comparison with personalized ones. However, in the long run, the social benefits of personalized homestay businesses surpass the impacts of economies-of-scale, thereby enabling them to achieve better sustainability than professional homestay businesses. The likelihood of survival for professional homestay businesses increases with a greater number of listings in operation, referred to as the advantage of economies-of-scale on professionalization; conversely, this is not true for personalized homestay businesses. Moreover, effective host–guest communication both facilitates the attainment of benefits for personalized businesses and amplifies its impact on professionalized enterprises; high-quality products offered by personalized hosts can derive more advantages from scales compared to low-quality products, while superhost-certified professionalized hosts experience less business benefit than uncertificated hosts. This study is one of the pioneering efforts to investigate how economies-of-scale can contribute to the professionalization and personalization of homestay properties, thereby enhancing their business survival. It significantly contributes to the existing literature on hospitality business survival and expands upon the economies-of-scale theory by elucidating its advantages and potential pitfalls in relation to homestay businesses.

The authors conclude that concession agreements are mainly used in the northwestern region, since they are more beneficial to the state, since ownership passes to it after the construction or modernization of the facility. Mobile money, stockouts and informal microenterprise performance: evidence from sub-Saharan Africa

PurposeThe extensive use of mobile money (MM) has been widely recognized as a digital engine of socioeconomic development in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). This paper aims to focus on the effects of MM use and stockouts on informal microenterprise performance and investigate whether MM use mitigates the relationship between stockouts and firm performance.Design/methodology/approachThis study utilizes firm-level data from the latest World Bank Informal Sector Enterprise Surveys across six SSA countries. We employ instrumental variable-adjusted and propensity score-weighted regressions to investigate the buffering effect of MM use.FindingsWe find a significantly positive effect of MM use and a significantly negative impact of stockouts on informal microenterprise performance. Importantly, we establish that MM use attenuates the negative impact of stockouts on firm performance. We further document that the attenuating effect of MM use is more profound for firms using MM for transactions with supply chain partners, located in communities with high MM use rates, and operating in the retail industry.Practical implicationsOur research generates important managerial and policy implications. Future policies should capitalize on MM to foster an effective financial ecosystem in which informal microenterprises can survive and grow, thereby deepening their contributions to sustainable development.Originality/valueWhereas the business benefits of MM among small, medium and large firms are well-documented, the role of MM use on informal microenterprise performance is less understood. This study fills the research gap in the literature by focusing on the influence of MM use on the relationships between informal microenterprise operations and performance.

State support for veteran entrepreneurship

Problem setting. In modern conditions, state support for veteran entrepreneurship plays a key role in the socioeconomic development of Ukraine. At the current stage, the veteran policy of Ukraine is being actively modernized and updated in accordance with the actual problems and challenges that arise during the implementation of state policy mechanisms regarding veteran entrepreneurship, however, the reformation requires attention to possible risks that may hinder the successful implementation of the policy. Involvement of war veterans in business activities is considered by the state and society as one of the most important mechanisms of reintegration of veterans, which corresponds to the state interests of Ukraine and the wishes of veterans according to sociological surveys. Purpose of research is to study the current state of legal regulation in Ukraine in the field of reintegration of veterans, in particular, the possibility of their professional adaptation and employment in entrepreneurial activities. Article’s main body. It has been established that promising directions for attracting veterans to entrepreneurship are: providing financial support to veteran business projects and benefits to veteran businesses in the field of public procurement along with related services (consultations, training, etc.), simplifying complex administrative procedures for veterans when receiving such benefits, ensuring equal access to state support programs for veterans.Evaluation of current initiatives and recommendations for their improvement can become the basis for further steps in the development of veteran entrepreneurship in Ukraine. Conclusions and prospects for the development. Modern Ukrainian legislation has ways to develop in the field of veterans’ rights protection, and the state policy of Ukraine is being modernized and updated in accordance with the current problems and challenges that arise during the implementation of state policy mechanisms for veteran entrepreneurship. However, on the way to reforming, those implementing it should pay attention to countermeasures that would make it impossible to reduce existing risks. In addition, laws could be passed to ensure that veterans receive preference in public contracting processes. This will not only support veterans in their transition to civilian life, but also emphasize their valuable skills and experience.

This study, through detailed research into the proliferation of EVs and associated demand for charging infrastructure, points out the creation of jobs, additional local business benefits, increased values of real estate, and, more importantly, the impact on the energy market in terms of grid stability and demand for renewable energy.

Causes of Increasing White-Collar Crime in Different Sectors of Bangladesh and its Impact on Society: A Feasible Reform

White-collar crime is a type of nonviolent crime that typically involves deception or concealment to acquire or protect assets or to achieve a personal or business benefit. It is on the rise in various sectors of Bangladesh due to its challenging identification, the prevalence of upper-class perpetrators, and their complex techniques. The previous laws and regulations were inadequate in addressing the increasing criminal activity and its negative impact on social and State life due to upper-class society's financial and professional dominance. This research paper examines the causes of the increase in white-collar crime in different sectors and its impact on Society in Bangladesh and finds a feasible reform for preventing it. The researcher also tries to provide a legal framework for preventing white-collar crime, especially in various sectors of Bangladesh.

Measuring Risk Perception and Risk Compensation among Local Residents toward COVID-19 in the Tourism Sandbox Islands: Comparative Evidence from the Phuket Sandbox and Samui Plus Model in Thailand

Since Thailand is a tourism-dependent country, its economy suffered tremendously during the COVID-19 lockdown. In a pioneering effort to re-open the country, two islands (Phuket and Koh Samui) began to welcome fully vaccinated international visitors in July 2021 under the “Phuket Sandbox”1 and “Samui Plus Model.” Even though the sandbox programs were found to create more income and some benefits for tourism businesses, they also generated concern among local people about contracting such an infectious disease as COVID-19. The aim of this study was to measure perception of COVID-19 infection among local residents due to contacts with in-ternational tourists. Using secondary data from a survey of 400 local residents living on the two islands, monetary compensation under the contingent valuation methods (CVM) and risk perception scale of 0–10 were analyzed to get an indication of the level of local residents’ risk perception toward COVID-19 possibly being transmitted by international tourists. Our results show that the risk perception was found to be higher among those who believed that the coronavirus could possibly result in death. Older individuals, especially females, and those with higher incomes seemed to have a higher risk perception. Residents who were working in the tourism sector were found to have a lower risk level than those who were working in other branches. There were also discordances in terms of education level and risk perception between residents in two islands. The paper suggests that awareness of residents’ risk perception and effective communication regarding such risk perception should be put in place to ensure appropriate practices that affect local residents in such sandbox areas in the future.
