COMEPOPA MEDIA ON SKILL AND DENTAL HYGIENE STATUS OF PRESCHOOL CHILDREN IN PLAY GROUP

Backround: Riskesdas data in 2018 saw a two-fold increase compared to the 2013 Riskesdas data on dental and oral problems, from 25.9% to 57.6%. Riskesdas data in 2018 West Java Province has problems with dental and oral health slightly exceeding the national figure of 58%. It is necessary to educate the public, especially children, to inculcate proper tooth brushing behavior. The counseling given can use the Comepopa media. The Research objective: to determine the effect of comepopa media on the skills and dental hygiene status of preschool children in the study group PUI Sindangwargi. Research method: using a quasi-experimental design with one group pre-test post-test design. Sampling with a total sampling of 22 respondents. The measuring instrument uses an observation sheet on brushing practices and a sheet measuring the status of dental hygiene using the PHP-M indeks. Analysis of hypothetical data using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the study: there was an increase after counseling with Comepopa media on tooth brushing skills from 4.64 to 8.32 and there was a decrease after counseling with Comepopa media on dental hygiene from 36.64 to 27.00. Wilcoxon test results obtained p value = 0.000 (<0.05). Conclusion: there is an effect of comepopa media on the skills and dental hygiene status of preschool children in the PUI Sindangwargi study group.

Oral symptoms and oral hygiene behaviours among patients with type 2 diabetes at a hospital in Japan: A cross-sectional study.

Effective daily oral hygiene behaviour will prevent periodontal disease. This study aimed to examine the oral symptoms, oral hygiene behaviours and factors contributing to oral hygiene behaviours among patients with type 2 diabetes in a hospital in Japan. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 198 patients with type 2 diabetes. Oral symptoms were assessed using a dichotomous scale based on clinical guidelines. Oral hygiene behaviours were assessed based on the frequency of daily tooth brushing and the use of interdental cleaning aids. Chi-square tests and logistic regression analyses were also performed. Overall, 71.2% of the participants had oral symptoms. Of the participants, 80.3% performed twice daily tooth brushing and 61.1% did not perform interdental cleaning on a daily basis. Logistic regression analysis revealed that tooth brushing behaviour was negatively associated with male patients (odds ratio [OR]=0.45, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.25-0.80), difficulty with mastication (OR=0.63, CI: 0.43-0.92) and tooth loss (OR=0.68, CI: 0.46-1.00) and positively associated with periodontal disease (OR=1.73, CI: 1.10-2.72). There were no significant variables related to the use of interdental cleaning aids. Patients need to learn about the necessity for regular oral hygiene behaviours and the appropriate way. In particular, support for male patients, those who have difficulty with mastication, those who have experienced natural tooth loss, and those who have not been diagnosed with periodontal disease are needed.

Novel behavioral model in evaluating initiation and sustenance of teeth brushing behavior among students pursuing health sciences: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Oral hygiene maintenance is a crucial and integral feature in determining the overall wellbeing of a person. It has been established that interventions for health promotion at the public health level derived from theoretical models based on social and behavioural sciences have a superior effectiveness as compared to the ones without a theoretical background. Hence a novel behavioral model known as the multi-theory model (MTM) was used to understand two important aspects of health behavior change: (i) Initiation and (ii) Sustenance in twice daily teeth brushing in a university setting with objectives to identify factors effecting MTM in initiation and sustenance of twice daily brushing behavior among students pursuing health sciences and correlating the MTM theory with socio-demographic and behavioral patterns. Methods: The study is an analytical cross-sectional study. Students pursuing Medicine and Dentistry in a University setting were included. A validated questionnaire was designed for this study. Questions were framed to evaluate the constructs of initiation and sustenance of MTM, personality, sleeping habits and demographic corelates of participants. Multiple means between the groups were compared using analysis of variance and a post hoc test. Correlation was established between different domains, the items were then entered for hierarchical multiple regression. Results: Of the 235 participants in the study, 229 completed the questionnaire. There was a significant association between brushing quartiles, professional streams (p<0.001) and academic performance (p<0.001). The hierarchical multiple regression revealed that at stage one, behavioral confidence contributed significantly to the regression model (F (1,227) = 33.227, p<0.001) and accounted for 12.4% of the variation in twice daily brushing. Conclusion: MTM is a good tool in predicting the initiation and sustenance of twice daily brushing behavior among young adults and can form a useful tool in assessing the patterns of brushing behavior in a population.

Theoretical analysis of the elastic free energy contributions to polymer brushes in poor solvent: A refined mean-field theory.

We consider polymer brushes in poor solvent that are grafted onto planar substrates and onto the internal and external surfaces of a cylinder using molecular dynamics simulation, self-consistent field (SCF), and mean-field theory. We derive a unified expression for the mean field free energy for the three geometrical classes. While for low grafting densities, the effect of chain elasticity can be neglected in poor solvent conditions, it becomes relevant at higher grafting densities and, in particular, for concave geometries. Based on the analysis of the end monomer distribution, we introduce an analytical term that describes the elasticity as a function of grafting density. The accuracy of the model is validated with molecular dynamics simulations as well as SCF computations and shown to yield precise values for the layer thickness over a wide range of system parameters. We further apply this model to analyze the gating behavior of switchable brushes inside nanochannels.

Association between tooth brushing behavior and diabetes mellitus occurrence in Indonesia

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease that is characterized by hyperglycemia, a condition where blood glucose level is higher than normal. Recent researches have shown that tooth brushing frequency is a potential risk factor for DM. Indonesian Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) collected the data of tooth brushing behavior of Indonesian people in 2018 according to the time of the tooth brushing. The data showed that the majority of Indonesian people brushed their teeth every day, but only 2.8 % of them did it at the right time. This problem might have an association with DM occurrence in Indonesia. This study aimed to analyze the tooth brushing behavior and DM occurrence association in Indonesia using the Indonesian Basic Health Research 2018 data. This cross-sectional study used a total of 455,040 interviewed respondents aged 30-80 years old that had complete data of their daily tooth brushing behavior. Tooth brushing behavior was the main independent variable. Other independent variables were age, sex, sweet drinks consumption, sweet foods consumption, fatty foods consumption, fruits and vegetables consumption, physical activity, and obesity. The dependent variable was the occurrence of DM based on diagnosis by doctor.

Effect of oral health intervention program on the self oral care of children attending childcare facilities: a quasi-experimental study

This study aimed to conduct a quasi-experimental study for assessing the effects of an oral health intervention program (OHIP), on the self-management of oral health in children attending childcare centers. The participants recruited were 83 children from two childcare centers, who were allocated to the intervention and control groups. The intervention group received the OHIP. At baseline, a self-reported survey of parents was conducted. In addition, the oral status of the children at baseline and at 5 weeks was evaluated. Their brushing behavior was assessed once a week and every day during the OHIP intervention period and at home, respectively. After the follow-up at 12 weeks, dental plaque index (PI) was measured and two-way repeated measures analysis of variance was performed. The PI of the intervention group significantly decreased at week 5, compared to the baseline (1.90 ± 0.53, p &lt; 0.001). Despite a substantial increase in week 12 (2.67 ± 0.08, p &lt; 0.001), the PI was significantly lower than that of the control group (3.37 ± 0.60). The OHIP was effective in reducing the PI and modifying the brushing behavior among children. It is necessary to develop and expand a systematic oral health education program to promote self-management of oral health in children.

Oral community health worker-led interventions in households with average levels of psychosocial factors.

IntroductionHousehold-level psychosocial stress levels have been linked to child tooth brushing behaviors. Community health worker (CHW) interventions that target psychosocial factors in high-risk communities have been associated with changes in health behaviors.AimObserve changes in psychosocial factors over time and an association between psychosocial factors and CHW intervention dose amongst urban Chicago families.Patients and methodsParticipants (N = 420 families) were recruited from 10 community clinics and 10 Women, Infants, or Children (WIC) centers in Cook County, Illinois to participate in a clinical trial. Research staff collected participant-reported psychosocial factors (family functioning and caregiver reports of depression, anxiety, support, and social functioning) and characteristics of CHW-led oral health intervention visits (number, content, child engagement) at 0, 6, and 12 months. CHWs recorded field observations after home visits on household environment, social circumstances, stressors, and supports.ResultsParticipants across the cohort reported levels of psychosocial factors consistent with average levels for the general population for nearly all measures. Psychosocial factors did not vary over time. Social functioning was the only measure reported at low levels [32.0 (6.9); 32.1 (6.7); 32.7 (6.9); mean = 50 (standard deviation)] at 0, 6, and 12 months. We did not observe a meaningful difference in social functioning scores over time by exposure to CHW-led intervention visits (control arm, 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 visits). Field observations made by CHWs described a range of psychosocial stress related to poverty, language barriers, and immigration status.ConclusionThe unexpectedly average and unchanging psychosocial factors over time, in the context of field observations of stress related to poverty, lack of support, immigration status, and language barriers, suggests that our study did not adequately capture the social determinants of health related to oral health behaviors or that measurement biases precluded accurate assessment. Future studies will assess psychosocial factors using a variety of instruments in an attempt to better measure psychosocial factors including social support, depression, anxiety, functioning, trauma and resilience within our urban population. We will also look at neighborhood-level factors of community distress and resilience to better apply the social ecologic model to child oral health behaviors.

THE COMPARISON OF EFFECT OF MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING AND DENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION ON ORAL HEALTHCARE KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOUR OF PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS OF PRESCHOOL CHILDREN

ntroduction- Motivational Interviewing (MI) has been used in healthcare and has shown reduction in the prevalence of early childhood caries (ECC) in preschool children. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of an MI approach delivered in an individual-setting as part of the regular dental appointment, on parent /caregiver oral health knowledge and attitudes toward the oral health of their children, in contrast with traditional dental health education (DHE), in an exploratory community-based study. The design of this study included 60 parents and caregiversMethod- visiting People's university (Bhopal) and were randomly assigned to Motivational interviewing(MI) group or Dental health education(DHE) group(30 in each group). Parents and caregivers in the MI-group (n = 30) received a talk on dental health using an MI approach and the DHE-group (n = 30) received a talk using traditional DHE. Both groups received additional, written dental health information and also received two telephone call follow-ups as part of the protocol at 3 months and 6 months. Both groups were given questionnaires before the talks and 3 months and 6 months later. Question items included oral health knowledge, attitudes, brushing behaviour, and a specic instrument to asses 'readiness for change', the Readiness Assessment of Parents Concerning Infant Dental Decay (RAPIDD). Both the groups were equally effective in raising theResult- awareness amongst the parents of the children seeking dental care. Intra-group comparison scores of individual items revealed that the scores obtained by participants belonging to group A and group B did not differ signicantly between the visits. Motivational interviewingConclusion- and Dental Health Education have similar effects when used as a part of regular dental appointment.

THE EFFECT OF DENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION USING THE DEMONSTRATION METHOD ON THE BEHAVIOR OF DENTAL BRUSHING IN CLASS V SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN AT SDN 1 PAGAR AIR DISTRICT WANTS TO JAYA DISTRICT BIG ACEH

Dental and oral health counseling to elementary school students is one of the efforts to improve the degree of dental health in children in promotive and preventive aspects. The selection of demonstration methods in dental and oral health education supports increasing children's understanding, by practicing directly how to brush their teeth correctly. From the results of interviews with 10 students, it is known that 7 students do not know how to brush their teeth properly and correctly. This study aims to determine the effect of dental health education using the demonstration method on tooth brushing behavior in fifth grade school-aged children at SDN 1 Pagar Air, Want Jaya District, Aceh Besar District. The type of research used in this study is a Quasi Experiment using a pretest and posttest design which was carried out on January 21-22 2022 at SDN 1 Pagar Air, Aceh Besar District. The sampling technique was Total Sampling, which consisted of 60 students. Analysis of the data in this study is quantitative data using parametric statistical test Paired Sample T-test. The results showed that there was an effect of dental health education using the demonstration method on tooth brushing behavior in fifth grade school-aged children at SDN 1 Pagar Air with a significant value of P =. p=0.000. It can be concluded that there is an effect of dental health education using the demonstration method on the behavior of brushing teeth in fifth grade school-aged children at SDN 1 Pagar Air. It is suggested to the students of SDN 1 Pagar Air, Sub-District of Want Jaya to apply good and correct brushing techniques.

SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW: PENGETAHUAN DAN PERILAKU MENGGOSOK GIGI PADA ANAK USIA SEKOLAH DASAR

Background: The majority of the Indonesian population already have good brushing behaviour, namely brushing their teeth every day. However, from this percentage only 2.8% brushed their teeth at the right time, namely at least twice after breakfast and before going to bed.&#x0D; Objective: To explain the knowledge and behaviour of brushing teeth in elementary school age children.&#x0D; Method: A literature review study of journal articles. The literature search was conducted from August to September 2020.&#x0D; Conclusions: The knowledge of brushing teeth for elementary school age children is in the sufficient category, which shows that elementary school age children have known the importance of brushing their teeth and brushing behaviour in elementary school age children, most children have brushed their teeth twice a day, but there are still children who brush their their teeth in the wrong time is at the same time as taking a bath because it is considered an easy and practical thing.

Self-Efficacy for Oral Health Behavior among High School Female Students

Background: Infections and tooth loss are common side effects of mouth and dental illnesses, as can paralyzing pains and trouble eating and speaking. Another important consideration is that persistent oral infections have been linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and stroke, all of which, along with other noncommunicable and chronic diseases, could be avoided by improving oral health literacy. Objectives(s): The aim of this study is to assess the self-efficacy for oral health behavior among high school female students. Methodology: This study guided by a descriptive correlational strategy. The predictive correlational design is used to predict the value of one variable based on the value of another (s) by determining the intensity and course of relationships between or among variables. This study conducted from September 20, 2021, to May 31, 2022. A non-probability convenience sample of (380) female high school students that are registered in the directorate of education. When subjects appear to be at the right place at the right time, they are used in convenience sampling research. Before the required sample size is met, researchers simply add relevant people to the study. A margin of error of 5%, a confidence level of 95%, a population size of 18.000, and a response distribution of 50% were used to establish the sample size. As a result, 377 people should be included in the sample. The total number of participants is 380. Results: There are statistically significant differences in Self-Efficacy for brushing behavior and Self-Efficacy for oral health behavior among living arrangements groups (p-value = 0.000, 0.010) respectively. Conclusion: The better the oral health value, the greater the Self-Efficacy for brushing behavior. The better the oral health value, the greater the Self-Efficacy for daily life habits. Recommendations: There is a need for the community health nurses to establish health promotion activities that target high school students; particularly the fourth graders with the goal of raising and their oral health awareness. Background: DMF-T of adolescent grup is 1.9. This number can figure out still does not meet the RAN target for Dental and Oral Health Services in 2020, namely the DMF-T index of 4.1 for all ages and the DMF-T index of 1.26 in the 12 year age group.&#x0D; Objective: This study aims to determine the form of adolescent behavior in brushing teeth.&#x0D; Methods: This study was a literature review using the method of searching for articles that have passed the publication process in 4 academic publications and full text databases, namely Google Scholar, PubMed, Proquest, and DOAJ published in the last 5 years 2016-2020 which can be accessed in full text in pdf and formats. scholarly.&#x0D; Conclusion: Some teenagers brush their teeth twice a day, but there are still teenagers who have not perform brushing behavior with the recommended frequency of brushing teeth. Teens tend to brush their teeth at night. However, there are some teenagers who have not paid attention to the time of brushing their teeth properly. Most adolescents use a combination technique and some use vertical techniques and female adolescents abroad tend to use dental floss as a supporting tool for brushing their teeth.

Theory-based habit modeling for enhancing behavior prediction in behavior change support systems

Psychological theories of habit posit that when a strong habit is formed through behavioral repetition, it can trigger behavior automatically in the same environment. Given the reciprocal relationship between habit and behavior, changing lifestyle behaviors is largely a task of breaking old habits and creating new and healthy ones. Thus, representing users’ habit strengths can be very useful for behavior change support systems, for example, to predict behavior or to decide when an intervention reaches its intended effect. However, habit strength is not directly observable and existing self-report measures are taxing for users. In this paper, building on recent computational models of habit formation, we propose a method to enable intelligent systems to compute habit strength based on observable behavior. The hypothesized advantage of using computed habit strength for behavior prediction was tested using data from two intervention studies on dental behavior change (N = 36 and N = 75), where we instructed participants to brush their teeth twice a day for three weeks and monitored their behaviors using accelerometers. The results showed that for the task of predicting future brushing behavior, the theory-based model that computed habit strength achieved an accuracy of 68.6% (Study 1) and 76.1% (Study 2), which outperformed the model that relied on self-reported behavioral determinants but showed no advantage over models that relied on past behavior. We discuss the implications of our results for research on behavior change support systems and habit formation.

The Effect of Pop Up Book Media on Increasing Dental Health Knowledge in Elementary School Children

Background: Children are a very large group of people and have a high prevalence of dental caries. This is related to the correct tooth brushing behavior data which is 2.8% every day. Dental health promotion is an effort to increase children's knowledge whose success cannot be separated from the method of education and the role of the media. Pop-up book is one of the three-dimensional visual media that can be an alternative as a learning medium. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of pop up book media on increasing dental health knowledge of elementary school children. Methods: Pre-experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design. The sampling technique was purposive sampling as many as 64 children, consisting of 32 children in the intervention group and 32 children in the control group. The study was conducted at SDN 03 Cilandak Timur, South Jakarta from September to October 2021. The variable influence on the intervention group was pop up book media and the control group was flipchart media while the affected variable was dental health knowledge. The research instrument used a questionnaire about dental health. Data analysis used the SPSS program with the Paired Sample Test to compare the knowledge scores before and after the intervention and the independent t-test to compare the difference in knowledge scores between the intervention group and the control group. Results: The results of the Paired Sample Test on knowledge in the intervention group obtained p = 0.000 and in the control group was p = 0.182. The results of the independent t-test were obtained p = 0.000. Conclusion: Pop up book media is effective in increasing the dental health knowledge of elementary school children.&#x0D; &#x0D;

Relationship Support Behavioral Health with Brushing of Teeth Pupils Elementary School in Lebak Bulus Area, South Jakarta

Dental health is inextricably linked to overall wellness. One of the primary determinants of oral and dental health in poor nations is the behavioral component of dental hygiene, specifically brushing practice. The purpose of this study is to ascertain teeth brushing behavior and the factors that influence it in sixth-grade elementary school children in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta. The study employed a cross-sectional design with a total sample size of 190 students. The data were gathered using an interview and a questionnaire. The findings indicated that up to 82.6 percent of sixth-grade kids engaged in inappropriate brushing behavior. Statistical analysis revealed a significant association between students' knowledge of the time and frequency of toothbrushing and their brushing behavior (p-value = 0.046). It is proposed that the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia adopt policies to support the development of dental health programs in school dental health services, particularly in the cognitive domain, attitudes, and behaviors of students who are concerned about their oral health.

Exploring the discharge characteristics of personal care behaviors for high precision estimation of microplastic emission

Microplastics (MPs) from personal care and cosmetic products (PCCPs) pose a threat to aquatic environment due to the small size and the complexity of composition. Although the habits of personal care behaviors (PCBs) vary from individuals affecting MPs emissions, quantitative research is not sufficient to support high-precision emission estimates and targeted management decisions. Based on a questionnaire survey about PCBs and laboratory experiments on corresponding PCCPs utilization, this study proposed a bottom-up micro-simulation method to quantify MPs emissions combining multinomial logit model and categorized emission coefficients, and identified the impact of individual attributes on the emissions. The results show that the annual PCBs-derived MPs emissions amounted to 2931.8 trillion particles in China, of which teeth brushing, face washing, and bathing behavior accounted for 29%, 36% and 35%, respectively. The residents discharged an average of 2.18 million particles per capita per year with 95% confidence interval of 0.58–4.34 million particles. Gender, age and living region had greater impacts on PCBs-derived MPs emissions. The effect of living region was significantly related to local temperature and humidity. The estimation based on the MPs discharge characteristics of PCBs provides high-precision method regarding the MPs emission from people's daily life and contributes to further understanding the source of MPs and initiating environmental control strategies.
