Бізнес-планування як інструмент державного фінансування соціального підприємництва

The article examines aspects of social entrepreneurship as a priority area of financial policy. The analysis of application of business planning as an element of financing of social projects in the world is carried out. It is proved that business practice requires the search for adaptive tools for financial support of social entrepreneurship by the state. The definition of "social business planning" as an element of dialogue between social business and the state is substantiated. It is specified that the state provides financial and economic support, first of all, to projects that have a social effect and are not commercialized. It is proved that social business planning is a tool for reviewing socially significant projects and making decisions on funding, because its adaptation and implementation is an urgent need of social business practice.

Institutional environment of entrepreneurial activity through the lens of economic culture

The article focuses on entrepreneurship as an economic entity in the process of evolution of market relations and the emergence of a free individual. Attention is drawn to the fact that the institutionalization of the division of labor is a consequence of the transfer of the subjective functions of the individual to individual social strata and business entities. It is emphasized that the social aspects of entrepreneurship narrow the boundaries of its subjectivity, since the external environment of economic activity sets significant restrictions on the freedom of decision-making. The entrepreneur’s behavior forms and affects the norms and restrictions of economic activity, which creates the prerequisites for its institutionalization. Based on «economic interactions», three levels of economic culture are identified and the place of the culture of entrepreneurship in economic culture is clarified. It is emphasized that the economic culture of entrepreneurship is most consistent with the economic culture of managers and heads of organizations, which applies to a significant number of people who delegated to them their rights in decision-making. Attention is paid to the differences between entrepreneurship and management through the lens of strategic orientation and the organizational structure of entrepreneurial activity. Entrepreneurship is organizationally focused on the use of horizontal informal ties, which provides for the coordination of the actions of independent participants in the process. The norms of political culture significantly affect the implantation of legal norms of economic activity, and is the connecting link between informal restrictions and formal rules in the economy. The Enterprise Institute embodies an innovative economic culture, provides an innovative type of economic growth and contributes to the competitiveness of the national economy.

Gender and study discipline-specific differences in the opinion about entrepreneurial aspects: An “ICSB academy” investigation

ABSTRACT This article investigates students’ evaluations of perceived entrepreneurial benefits and barriers and their desired university support within a sample of the ICSB academies in 2016 and 2017. The authors highlight differences within these evaluations depending on gender and the students’ disciplinary background, drawing on social role theory. In general, the participants of the ICSB academies show high entrepreneurial ambitions; this also holds for the generated subgroups (business/non-business and female/male). The support for our derived hypotheses is in line with our theoretical reasoning, showing differences caused by gender and disciplinary background. As a practical implication, our findings facilitate effective student support of higher education institutions.

Linking Strategic Management and Corporate Entrepreneurship for Firm Value Creation: A Developing Country Perspective

ABSTRACT The ever-increasing global business environment dynamism, change, and heterogeneity require a flexible, proactive, innovative, and aggressive managerial approach. The quest for such approaches settle strategic management and corporate entrepreneurship as a new firm‐level phenomenon that deserves scholarly attention. The subtle interaction of strategic management & corporate entrepreneurship has the potential of boosting firms’ capability to recognize, discover, and create entrepreneurial opportunities and develop them toward sustainable competitive advantages. The study followed an interpretive research philosophy, both exploratory and explanatory designs, quantitative approach, and survey method. The perceptions of corporate and strategic business unit level managers of 104 Ethiopian food processing firms established the study setting. We employed both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses to identify a set of latent constructs underlying battery of measured variables and test if data fit the hypothesized measurement model, respectively. Results signpost locus of planning and strategic control influencing corporate entrepreneurship while environmental scanning did not. Moreover, planning flexibility, planning horizon, and financial control influenced only certain aspects of corporate entrepreneurship. We conclude a weak relationship between strategic management practice and intra-organizational entrepreneurship in conservative firms with little or no radical departure from historical and predominant structural patterns, characterized by superfluous, unplanned, and routine decisions.

Entrepreneurial leadership in schools: linking creativity with accountability

ABSTRACT The relationship between education and organizational financial efficiency can be described as tense and ambiguous. Therefore, issues of educational leadership inspired by models stemming from the business sector are currently hardly dealt with. Consequently, not much attention has been given to findings from the field of Business Financial Management in order to learn more from their models, theories and practices and, then, examine their applicability into educational management theory and practices. This seems even more important as schools have become a multifaceted pedagogical action field with many cross-sectional leadership tasks, which bear resemblance with business tasks. Against this background the current exploratory paper draws from international desktop research as well as previous research that the authors themselves were involved in. Thus, it offers an informed and insightful basis for reflection on the possible influences of Entrepreneurial Leadership in education, a concept where economic efficiency has to operate and collaborate complimentary to pedagogical leadership. Thus, the aspect of educational entrepreneurship that interests us includes individual persons in school management who, as pioneers, point out new paths and enable or even drive innovation in their schools. In order to do so, they scan their external environments looking for opportunities and creative solutions to complex educational issues.

Including the Dark Side of Entrepreneurship in the Entrepreneurship Education

Pursuing an entrepreneurial career is often rewarding in terms of both economic and psychological outcomes. However, becoming an entrepreneur also has its darker side that affects professional and personal life. Meanwhile, the positivity bias is prevalent in entrepreneurial education and research. It is recognized as emphasizing the advantages of becoming an entrepreneur and giving considerably less attention to potential downsides. Based on the theoretical model of met expectations, it is proposed that building an accurate and balanced image of the entrepreneurial career is crucial to help students prepare to pursue it successfully. Using data from SEAS (Survey on Entrepreneurial Attitudes of Students) Project, authors quantitatively test the perception of the severity of negative aspects of entrepreneurship among 513 business students from northern Poland. Further, the results of 16 semi-structured qualitative interviews conducted with mature and experienced entrepreneurs from the same region are presented. They are focused on the entrepreneurs’ perspective on the experienced dark sides and reveal employed coping strategies. A call is made to include these findings in designing university entrepreneurship programs by eliciting the awareness of the existence of the dark sides and indicating the means of their attenuation.

Inclusive Innovation in Technology Entrepreneurship: What Is It and How Can We Study It?

According to the 2016 report by the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation entitled “The Demographics of Innovation in the United States”, only 12% of “U.S. innovators” are women, and only 8% are members of U.S. minority groups This report points to an increasingly important issue for entrepreneurship and innovation. Many would agree that the importance of including many skilled individuals in technological innovation is beneficial for firms, economies, and society; but how we do we change this dynamic? Surprisingly, little research has been conducted on the technology entrepreneurship aspect of inclusive innovation. This panel brings together leading scholars for an interactive session to discuss important issues, current initiatives, and a potential research agenda.

Exploring entrepreneurial characteristics, motivations and behaviours in equity crowdfunding: some evidence from Italy

PurposeThis study explores entrepreneurial decision-making in the equity crowdfunding (ECF) context, and it aims to shed some light on the relationship among three aspects: entrepreneurial characteristics (i.e. entrepreneurial alertness and entrepreneurial self-efficacy), entrepreneurial motivations (i.e. promotion, improvement of networking and acquisition of product and market knowledge) and entrepreneurial behaviours (i.e. campaign characteristics in terms of communication and offerings).Design/methodology/approachThe hypotheses testing and analysis were conducted using the partial least squares approach to structural equation modelling, and data were collected from the overall population of Italian ECF platforms.FindingsOur results highlight that entrepreneurial characteristics may be central in ECF because of their significant impact on some motivation entrepreneurs have to adopt ECF, which in turn have an impact on meaningful campaign characteristics that can influence ECF performance.Originality/valueThe current literature is mainly focused on investors' decisions, while a neglected perspective until now has been that of entrepreneurs. This study is among the first to focus on entrepreneurs in the ECF context, and, to the best of our knowledge, it is the first study to investigate the entrepreneurial decision-making process. The added value of this research lies in the analysis of the entrepreneurial aspects underlying entrepreneurial decisions to use ECF.

Digital Academic Entrepreneurship: A structured literature review and avenue for a research agenda

This paper reviews the Academic Entrepreneurship literature according to the emergence of powerful Digital technologies, providing an overview of the state of research and outlining a future research agenda about Digital Academic Entrepreneurship. One hundred and sixty-five journal papers were initially extracted from Scopus and their content was analysed for the paper selection process by two researchers in parallel, plus a third one in case of uncertainty. Finally, fifty-nine papers dealing with digital academic entrepreneurship and published in a variety of academic journals have been analyzed through a content and a bibliometric analysis. Findings show that literature on Digital Academic Entrepreneurship is really scant and dominated by unrelated research. Content analysis provides the emergence of four major research streams: 1) Digital Technologies for Entrepreneurship Education; 2) The “maker space movement” for Academic Entrepreneurship; 3) Digital technologies for discovering entrepreneurial opportunities; 4) Creating entrepreneurial competences in the Digital “University-based” Entrepreneurial ecosystems. The paper presents the first attempt to provide a comprehensive structured literature review of the disruptive role of digital transformation for the Academic Entrepreneurship. Despite the growing literature on Digital Entrepreneurship, this research area is still fragmented and undertheorized. More systematic and holistic studies, considering both the technological, economic and the social aspects of Academic Entrepreneurship are required.

University business incubators as a tool for accelerating entrepreneurship: theoretical perspective

Purpose This paper aims to analyze the link between universities and business incubators (BIs) and to determine how students, scientific researchers and entrepreneurs can benefit from this linkage. It creates an environment in which everyone can help the other to put their new ideas, special skills and abilities into new businesses. In other words, the traditional universities’ role has changed and entrepreneurial universities are now needed to redirect new knowledge for economic development through BIs. Design/methodology/approach This paper adopts an analytical descriptive methodology approach to describe the basic features of the data by using the descriptive research design. This research is based on examining a model provided by the author concerning boosting the entrepreneurial aspects and outcomes through university business incubators (UBIs) based on wide theoretical and empirical case studies. Also, the functional structural approach is used to investigate the relationship between two variables as UBIs are considered a new unit that has functions and structures to create an added value to universities and the society as a whole. Findings The educational system should create a favorable environment that enables young people to develop their mindset from employees to employers, and to prepare them to improve skills and knowledge to create jobs. UBI is the recent aspect of the BI evolution where the research outcomes are linked with the industry and development. This relationship between these entities will provide success to its stakeholders. Social implications Many incubators around the world are supported by universities. Others are making initiatives to link up with universities and higher education institutions to get the revenues and returns from its academic nature. Lately, university incubators became a type of incubator evolution and more supportive for entrepreneurs than other types of incubators. Originality/value The contribution of this study is to explain how UBIs succeeded to tie the results of scientific research with economy and development through entrepreneurial activities to accelerate and realize entrepreneurship strategies.

Entrepreneurial university: an exploratory model for higher education

PurposeThe paper aims to clarify the characteristics of the entrepreneurial university, beyond commercial entrepreneurship to other aspects of entrepreneurship, such as social or different demands for solutions to problems in society, and integrate the entrepreneurial practices between teaching, research, extension and innovation within an entrepreneurial ecosystem. The purpose of this study was to propose an entrepreneurial university model that contemplates elements and guidelines.Design/methodology/approachThe paper opted for qualitative research of exploratory methodological approach and case study with units of analysis (management, technological innovation nucleus, academic units and ecosystem) in a Brazilian public university. For data collection, we used semi-structured interviews as primary data, and as a secondary, documentary survey, using as reference the theoretical model based on the bibliographic mapping.FindingsThe analyzed university is still in the process of transforming into an entrepreneurial university, and for that, it is necessary to devise strategies in a set. In addition, to giving new meaning to the concept of the entrepreneurial university, we reorganized the characteristics into dimensions, and we suggested guidelines.Research limitations/implicationsDue to the search approach chosen, the research results may lack generalizability. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the proposed model further in different contexts, as non-technological, for example.Practical implicationsThis study presents the understanding that different areas of knowledge can incorporate extension activities and contribute to the transformation of traditional universities into entrepreneurs and, starting point for other empirical studies.Social implicationsAn entrepreneurial university incorporates its social role as it meets the demands of society.Originality/valueThis paper fulfills an identified need to expand the characteristics of an entrepreneurial university within an entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Industrial Need Analysis in Bakery to Develop Bakepreneurship Learning Model

Vocational education has an important role in preparing students to have the skills needed by the industry. This study aims to analyze the needs of the bakery industry to develop a learning model of Bakepreneurship. This study using descriptive qualitative approach by analyzing the needs in the aspect of 1) student, 2) teacher, 3) curriculum, and 4) industry. Based on the analysis results of the stakeholders, we found an idea to develop a Bakepreneurship learning model that can be used as a reference in pastry and bakery learning in the vocational school. Bakepreneurship learning model is a learning model that combines comprehensively aspects of soft skills, hard skills, and entrepreneurship that aim to equip students with the competencies needed by the bakery industry.

Role of engineering major in entrepreneurial intentions of engineering students: a case of Pakistan

PurposeThe dynamic global environment has increased the requirement of multidisciplinary entrepreneurial engineers. While studying entrepreneurial aspects of engineers, researchers have not considered inherent variability due to engineering majors. This study investigates the impact of entrepreneurial motivation (EM) on entrepreneurial intentions (EIs), to analyse the inherent entrepreneurial potential of engineering majors. The impact of entrepreneurial education has also been studied to proffer recommendations for policymakers.Design/methodology/approachThe design of this study is a survey conducted with 342 undergraduate students from three major engineering institutions in Pakistan using a close-structured questionnaire. Moderation analysis examines the entrepreneurial potential of different engineering majors. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) has been conducted to compare the EIs of different engineering majors and regarding the impact of entrepreneurial education on EIs.FindingsThe engineering major's role in the transformation of EM to EIs is multifaceted. EIs of students of a few engineering majors were found high. Entrepreneurship education improves the overall EIs of engineering students.Practical implicationsOutcomes of the study are useful for academia and policymakers to engage students of particular engineering majors, identified as entrepreneurial, in advanced entrepreneurial education and expose them to potential start-ups to have better value addition in specific sectors.Originality/valueThis is the first study in which engineering majors have been examined to bring insights about inherent entrepreneurial potential. This inherent entrepreneurial potential needs further exploration by academic researchers. The study has provided the base for future studies to institutionalize entrepreneurial education for different engineering majors.

Impact of Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Discussions in Smart Cities: Comprehensive Assessment of Social Media Data

Discussions on “smart cities” are gaining in popularity in the past two decades and has shown potential in tackling the cities’ environmental, social, and economic challenges. Smart cities are known as a system of physical infrastructure, the information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure, and the social infrastructure that exchange information that flows between its many different subsystems. The “smart cities” concept has been introduced with various dimensions, among those, the embedded ICT infrastructure in smart cities is playing a decisive role between the functions of the system. One of the important derivatives of ICT is the new communication mediums known as social network services (SNSs), which is emergent and introduces additional functionalities to “smart cities”. This paper seeks to advance the understanding of SNSs in smart cities to evaluate the effects on the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem. This agenda has been tackled by a rigorous methodological approach in order to capture and evaluate the presence of entrepreneurially concerned discussions in a popular SNS intermediate (Twitter). Beyond the methodological contribution on handling big data in SNSs for gaining insights on innovation and entrepreneurial aspects in smart cities, the findings distinguished the influence of a certain category of content generators (professionals) that drive the biggest motives of the interactions in SNSs.

Entrepreneurship as a solution to poverty in developed economies

While entrepreneurship in developing economies at the base of the pyramid is receiving growing attention, scholars have devoted less effort to exploring entrepreneurship as a solution to poverty in advanced economies. Yet, poverty rates have not meaningfully changed in most developed economies in 50 years, and the income gap between rich and poor continues to widen. In this article, we examine entrepreneurship as a source of empowerment for the economically disadvantaged. We explore the nature of poverty and its implications for various aspects of entrepreneurship, identify problematic aspects of the typical low-income startup, and present the SPODER conceptual framework for fostering entrepreneurial development among the poor: (S) supportive infrastructure, (P) preparation of the entrepreneur; (O) expanded opportunity horizons; (D) finding sources of differentiation; (E) a well-designed economic model; and (R) leveraging community resources. We conclude by drawing from the framework implications for those involved in breaking the cycle of poverty.

Stemming the gender gap in STEM entrepreneurship \u2013 insights into women\u2019s entrepreneurship in science, technology, engineering and mathematics

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields are notably important for innovation and technological development, which in turn are seen as drivers of social and economic growth. Hence, researchers and policy-makers have paid substantial attention to analyzing and promoting high-growth ventures in STEM fields. However, STEM fields are highly gender-skewed, regardless of whether the population considered is students, faculty members, graduates, top managers, or entrepreneurs. This is noticeable in the small number of women entrepreneurs with STEM backgrounds. This underrepresentation of women in innovation-driven business startups highlights existing gender biases and systemic disadvantages in social structures, making visible the double masculinity that exists at the intersection of STEM and entrepreneurship. This article addresses this issue by combining insights from research about women’s entrepreneurship and research about the gender aspects of STEM fields. We emphasize institutional, organizational, and individual factors influencing women’s entrepreneurship in STEM fields, laying the foundation for the articles included in this special issue. Finally, we discuss the way forward for research on the gender aspects of STEM entrepreneurship to help us create the knowledge needed to close this gender gap.

Transcultural Development

In practice, development too often neglects the perspective of the impoverished when attempting to ameliorate negative socioeconomic conditions that persist. Entrepreneurs, and in particular social entrepreneurs, often attempt to solve social issues through a triple-bottom line approach but in many cases focus on the problem without greater consideration to the cultural context of their intervention. We introduce a new term, transcultural development, to advocate for the inclusion and preservation of cultural norms and rights of receiving cultures in the face of globalization, particularly when conducting projects that attempt to alleviate poverty. Presented is an applied ethnographic study conducted by two faculty members and seven undergraduate students consulting for a non-governmental organization (NGO) social enterprise over a ten-day short-term study abroad trip. The NGO and student group aimed to assist impoverished Guatemalans inhabiting the southwestern coastal plain to develop a new export crop, the pigeonpea ( Cajanus cajan ). Gender norms and rights proved a focal point in demonstrating the importance of conducting social impact assessments regularly to mitigate entrenched or biased views. The transcultural development approach may optimally incorporate an applied anthropological lens to the social aspects of social entrepreneurship.

Vectors of Development of the Modern Market Economy

In order to reflect the essential, debatable and problematic aspects of the newly emerging vectors of socially oriented development of market economy in the countries and regions of the post-Soviet space, the article presents a generalized analytical material on the results of reports, speeches and debates at the VII International scientific-practical conference “Тhe Phenomenon of Market Economy: From its Origins to the Present Day”. It focuses on the methodological research positions of dialectical and systemic approach and takes into account the various points of view of prominent modern domestic and foreign scientists and economists on the evolutionary and transformational aspects of the market economy in the past and present. In the context of modification by the authorities of the fundamental beliefs of the alternative paradigms of economic science and political economy, we considered the peculiarities of the dialectic of the reproduction mechanism of the market economy and gave the evaluative characteristics of this current global economic phenomena and processes, which are now often referred to as “fake”. We also showed the newly emerged prerequisites and tendencies of increasing political risk in the conditions of the international competition of subjects of the market system of management. The authors paid particular attention to the understanding of the theory and practice of publicprivate entrepreneurship, positive and negative aspects of the policy of import substitution. Finally, we substantiated the scientific and practical proposals and the vision of the original solutions in the field of such urgent problems of the modern market economy development in Russia and the post-Soviet space as ensuring the all-inclusive digitalisation of business processes and overcoming the consequences of the increased economic sanctions.
