Significance. Specifics of the work of medical professionals in some specialties are not accounted for by legally mandated requirements for certified specialists. It is necessary to specify methodology for certifying specialists for each of the approved nomenclature of medical specialties, including “Health Organization and Public Health” in order to improve performance efficiency of attestation commissions. The purpose of the study is to develop methodology for certifying health professionals with "Healthcare organization and public health" qualification category. Material and methods. The methodological basis of the study is presented by regulatory information analysis, and the method of expert assessments. Results. Based on the results of the analysis of normative legal documents and available literature, a methodology was developed to certify health specialists with "Health Organization and Public Health" qualification category. Within the framework of this methodology, the main and additional criteria that are potentially applicable for certifying specialists in health organization and public health were identified, and an evaluation gradation of these criteria was developed. The opinion of 35 specialists with at least a five-year experience in health organization collected through a specially designed questionnaire were analyzed using the expert assessment method. The experts were asked to evaluate the methodology for certifying health specialists for "Health organization and public health" qualification category identifying significance of individual criteria on a rank scale from 1 to 6 and grading their values according to the qualification category. In general, the experts' opinion coincides with the proposed methodology. Based on the results of the expert evaluation, the most significant criteria have been highlighted. Conclusion. The methodology for certifying health specialists with "Health organization and public health" qualification category is based on current normative and legal acts and makes it possible to subjectively certify a specialist with the relevant qualification category. A further opinion evaluation of specialists in health organization is needed to decide on the feasibility of using the developed methodology for certifying medical specialist with “Health Organization and Public Health” qualification category. Scope of application. The study results can be used by certification commissions for attesting medical specialists for "Health organization and public health" qualification category.

Genenames.org: the HGNC resources in 2023.

The HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC) assigns unique symbols and names to human genes. The HGNC database (www.genenames.org) currently contains over 43 000 approved gene symbols, over 19 200 of which are assigned to protein-coding genes, 14 000 to pseudogenes and nearly 9000 to non-coding RNA genes. The public website, www.genenames.org, displays all approved nomenclature within Symbol Reports that contain data curated by HGNC nomenclature advisors and links to related genomic, clinical, and proteomic information. Here, we describe updates to our resource, including improvements to our search facility and new download features.

Prospects of Triangular Modular Structures for Roadside Service Buildings

The need for a relatively quick solution to the problem of providing highways with roadside service facilities necessitates the development of a series of appropriate standard projects. To increase the efficiency of these series, it is advisable to carry out the interconnection of space-planning solutions based on a particular module. Taking into account the variety of planning and landscape characteristics of the sites for the placement of objects of the mainline service, it seems advisable to choose as a module not a square or rectangular, but a triangular configuration, which allows in most cases to harmoniously block the modules. The proposed roof module in the form of a “regular” triangle facing the tetrahedron has a structural basis in the form of a single-tier rod spatial plate. The principal space-planning solutions of all four dozen objects from the approved nomenclature of the mainline service performed in the process of analyzing the possibilities show the real possibility of solving the development tasks on the basis of this system. The use of the proposed modular system makes it possible to successfully solve a number of tasks to reduce the harmful impact on the environment and effectively use renewable energy sources. The work is devoted specifically to the field of design.

The risks of using unapproved gene symbols

The use of approved nomenclature in publications is vital to enable effective scientific communication and is particularly crucial when discussing genes of clinical relevance. Here, we discuss several examples of cases where the failure of researchers to use a HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC)-approved symbol in publications has led to confusion between unrelated human genes in the literature. We also inform authors of the steps they can take to ensure that they use approved nomenclature in their manuscripts and discuss how referencing HGNC IDs can remove ambiguity when referring to genes that have previously been published with confusing alias symbols.

Zvěstovite-(Zn), Ag6(Ag4Zn2)As4S13, a new tetrahedrite-group mineral from Zvěstov, Czech Republic

AbstractThe new mineral, zvěstovite-(Zn), ideally Ag6(Ag4Zn2)As4S13, was found in quartz–baryte gangue at the mine dump of the abandoned small deposit of Zvěstov, central Bohemia, Czech Republic. Zvěstovite-(Zn) is associated with tennantite-(Zn), tetrahedrite-(Zn), argentotennantite-(Zn), acanthite and supergene azurite and malachite. The new mineral occurs as rare relic anhedral grains rimmed by acanthite, up to 100 μm in size. Zvěstovite-(Zn) is grey, Mohs hardness is ca. 3½–4, in agreement with other members of the tetrahedrite group; the calculated density is 5.16 g.cm–3. In reflected light, zvěstovite-(Zn) is grey with a greenish tint, without bireflectance, pleochroism or anisotropy. Deep red internal reflections are ubiquitous. Reflectance values of zvěstovite-(Zn) in air (R%) are: 28.5 at 470 nm, 26.9 at 546 nm, 25.5 at 589 nm and 23.8 at 650 nm. The empirical formula for zvěstovite-(Zn), based on electron-microprobe analyses (n = 4), is Ag6.27[(Ag3.90Cu0.38)Σ4.28(Zn1.60Fe0.09Cd0.03)Σ1.72]Σ6.00(As2.26Sb1.48)Σ3.74S12.50. The ideal formula is Ag6(Ag4Zn2)As4S13, which requires (in wt.%) Ag 56.01, Zn 6.79, As 15.56 and S 21.64, total 100.00. Zvěstovite-(Zn) is cubic, I$\bar{4}$3m, with unit-cell parameters: a = 10.850(2) Å, V = 1277.3(8) Å3 and Z = 2. The strongest reflections of the calculated powder X-ray diffraction pattern [d, Å (I) (hkl)] are: 3.1321(100) (222), 2.7125(21) (400), 1.9809(11) (521), 1.9180(31) (440) and 1.6357(15) (622). According to the single-crystal X-ray diffraction data (Robs = 0.051), the crystal structure of zvěstovite-(Zn) agrees with the general features of the members of the tetrahedrite group. Zvěstovite-(Zn) is named after its type locality, Zvěstov; the suffix indicates the dominant divalent C-constituent, according to the approved nomenclature of the tetrahedrite group. It is the As-isotype of rozhdestvenskayaite-(Zn). The mineral and its name have been approved by the Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA2020-061).

Currently, digitalization is an important task for any large organization. Digitalization is also important for universities activities. The current state of digitalization of Derzhavin Tambov State University, the main advantages of implementing an integrated automation system on the 1C: Enterprise platform are considered: the use of a single platform and development language; end-to-end data movement within one system; availability of regular updates; docking with federal information systems. We describe the use of a number of software products. “1C: PROF. University” allows to automate the accounting, storage, processing and analysis of information about the main processes of a higher educational institution: admission to a university, tuition, tuition and graduation, calculation and distribution of the workload of the teaching staff, etc. “1C: Document management of a state institution” helps to minimize paper document management; reduce the risk of document loss; structuring documentation according to the approved nomenclature, etc. “1C: Automated scheduling. University” allows to systematize the scheduling process; productively use the classroom fund; monitor the workload of teachers, etc. “1C: ITIL. Enterprise information technology management” at the university helps in obtaining more complete and accurate information; creating a different entry point for applications from users; increasing the speed of processing applications, etc. We consider issues at the initial stage of implementation and ways to solve them.

Decolonising cities of the global South in the classroom and beyond

In the post-colonial context, the global South has become the approved nomenclature for the non-European, non-Western parts of the world. The term promises a departure from post-colonial development geographies and from the material and discursive legacies of colonialism by ostensibly blurring the bifurcations between developed and developing, rich and poor, centre and periphery. In concept, the post-colonial literature mitigates the disparity between cities of the North and South by highlighting the achievements of elsewhere. But what happens when we try to teach this approach in the classroom? How do we locate the South without relying on concepts of otherness? And how do we communicate the importance of the South without re-creating the regional hierarchies that have dominated for far too long? This article outlines the academic arguments before turning to the opportunities and constraints associated with delivering an undergraduate module that teaches post-colonial concepts without relying on colonial constructs.

State management of scientific and scientific-technical activity in the Russian Federation on the example of the preparation and adoption of the system of scientific specialties

This article is a further continuation of the work on the review of the foundations of public administration of the use of national resources in relation to the field of scientific and state scientific and technical activities in the Russian Federation. The basic functions of the state management of scientific and technical activity are considered from the system positions, the analysis of the existing legal regulation of preparation and acceptance of system of scientific specialties on which scientific degrees are awarded is carried out, system shortcomings of the approved nomenclature of scientific specialties on which scientific degrees are awarded are revealed. The substantiation of the classification system for “Nomenclature of scientific specialties for which scientific degrees are awarded” is carried out.

Selenoprotein Gene Nomenclature

The human genome contains 25 genes coding for selenocysteine-containing proteins (selenoproteins). These proteins are involved in a variety of functions, most notably redox homeostasis. Selenoprotein enzymes with known functions are designated according to these functions: TXNRD1, TXNRD2, and TXNRD3 (thioredoxin reductases), GPX1, GPX2, GPX3, GPX4, and GPX6 (glutathione peroxidases), DIO1, DIO2, and DIO3 (iodothyronine deiodinases), MSRB1 (methionine sulfoxide reductase B1), and SEPHS2 (selenophosphate synthetase 2). Selenoproteins without known functions have traditionally been denoted by SEL or SEP symbols. However, these symbols are sometimes ambiguous and conflict with the approved nomenclature for several other genes. Therefore, there is a need to implement a rational and coherent nomenclature system for selenoprotein-encoding genes. Our solution is to use the root symbol SELENO followed by a letter. This nomenclature applies to SELENOF (selenoprotein F, the 15-kDa selenoprotein, SEP15), SELENOH (selenoprotein H, SELH, C11orf31), SELENOI (selenoprotein I, SELI, EPT1), SELENOK (selenoprotein K, SELK), SELENOM (selenoprotein M, SELM), SELENON (selenoprotein N, SEPN1, SELN), SELENOO (selenoprotein O, SELO), SELENOP (selenoprotein P, SeP, SEPP1, SELP), SELENOS (selenoprotein S, SELS, SEPS1, VIMP), SELENOT (selenoprotein T, SELT), SELENOV (selenoprotein V, SELV), and SELENOW (selenoprotein W, SELW, SEPW1). This system, approved by the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee, also resolves conflicting, missing, and ambiguous designations for selenoprotein genes and is applicable to selenoproteins across vertebrates.

HMPV Lineage Nomenclature and Heparin Binding

Human metapneumovirus (hMPV), first described in 2001 [1], is responsible for causing serious respiratory illness in young children, the elderly and immunocompromised patients. Four distinct lineages of hMPV have been identified with the original nomenclature for these subgroups (A1, A2, B1 and B2), reported by van den Hoogen et al. [2], utilised by many. An alternate terminology (1A, 1B, 2A and 2B) was also published by Ishiguro et al. in 2004 [3] which has been adopted by others. However, this has caused some confusion in the interpretation of publication results as the terminology is similar yet describes different subtypes. As a result, a number of investigators have made a submission to the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV, ICTV taxonomic proposal 2012.012V) for the official adoption of the original terminology as an approved nomenclature for hMPV [4]. We welcome this officially approved nomenclature which should provide clarification of these subtypes in future. Therefore to assist with the interpretation of our recently published research in the 2012 special issue of Viruses: Pneumoviruses and Metapneumoviruses entitled "Diversity in Glycosaminoglycan Binding Amongst hMPV G Protein Lineages" [5] we have updated the Figure 3 in this letter (see Figure 1), showing the proposed ICTV terminology compared to the Ishiguro classification (used in our publication). Note that in the original publication the alphanumeric order for the Ishiguro classification was transposed (e.g., 1A was referred to as A1).

Is Seladin-1 Really a Selective Alzheimer's Disease Indicator?

Selective Alzheimer's Disease Indicator-1 (Seladin-1) was originally identified by its down-regulation in the brains of Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. Here, we re-examine existing data and present new gene expression data that refutes its role as a selective AD indicator. Furthermore, we caution against the use of the name "Seladin-1" and instead recommend adoption of the approved nomenclature, 3β-hydroxysterol Δ24-reductase (or DHCR24), which describes its catalytic function in cholesterol synthesis. Further work is required to determine what link, if any, exists between DHCR24 and AD.

Here we describe improvements to our resources, including a new Quick Gene Search, a new List Search, an integrated HGNC BioMart and a new Statistics and Downloads facility.

Inhibition of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 replication by a Tat-activated, transduced interferon gene: targeted expression to human immunodeficiency virus type 1-infected cells.

We have examined the feasibility of using interferon (IFN) gene transfer as a novel approach to anti-human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) therapy in this study. To limit expression of a transduced HIV-1 long terminal repeat (LTR)-IFNA2 (the new approved nomenclature for IFN genes is used throughout this article) hybrid gene to the HIV-1-infected cells, HIV-1 LTR was modified. Deletion of the NF-kappa B elements of the HIV-1 LTR significantly inhibited Tat-mediated transactivation in T-cell lines, as well as in a monocyte line, U937. Replacement of the NF-kappa B elements in the HIV-1 LTR by a DNA fragment derived from the 5'-flanking region of IFN-stimulated gene 15 (ISG15), containing the IFN-stimulated response element, partially restored Tat-mediated activation of LTR in T cells as well as in monocytes. Insertion of this chimeric promoter (ISG15 LTR) upstream of the human IFNA2 gene directed high levels of IFN synthesis in Tat-expressing cells, while this promoter was not responsive to tumor necrosis factor alpha-mediated activation. ISG15-LTR-IFN hybrid gene inserted into the retrovirus vector was transduced into Jurkat and U937 cells. Selected transfected clones produced low levels of IFN A (IFNA) constitutively, and their abilities to express interleukin-2 and interleukin-2 receptor upon stimulation with phytohemagglutinin and phorbol myristate acetate were retained. Enhancement of IFNA synthesis observed upon HIV-1 infection resulted in significant inhibition of HIV-1 replication for a period of at least 30 days. Virus isolated from IFNA-producing cells was able to replicate in the U937 cells but did not replicate efficiently in U937 cells transduced with the IFNA gene. These results suggest that targeting IFN synthesis to HIV-1-infected cells is an attainable goal and that autocrine IFN synthesis results in a long-lasting and permanent suppression of HIV-1 replication.

Position and orientation of the heart valves.

AbstractThe position and orientation of the heart valves and cusps were investigated in 125 adult and 25 stillborn cadaver hearts in an attempt to establish a reasonably uniform picture of this aspect of cardiac anatomy. The study was prompted by the fact that current textbook figures show wide variation in depicting these structures and also by the fact that the standard nomenclature of the cusps has not been fully accepted by anatomists and cardiologists. There is the additional problem of naming the cusps in congenitally defective hearts. The literature related to cases of great vessel transposition is particularly confusing and the lack of a uniform figure of the heart valves and disagreement about the cusps adds to the confusion.The arrangement of the valves and cusps was found to be very uniform in the specimens studied and a standard figure is suggested to replace the variations seen in current texts. It is further suggested that the approved nomenclature of the cusps be followed and several supplemental terms be recognized as accurate. non‐ambiguous and useful, particularly in descriptions of the congenitally defective heart.
