Soil Biodegradation Resistance of Cotton Fiber Doped with Interior and Exterior Silver Nanoparticles.

Engineering fibers with nanomaterials is an effective way to modify their properties and responses to external stimuli. In this study, we doped cotton fibers with silver nanoparticles, both on the surface (126 ± 17 nm) and throughout the fiber cross section (18 ± 4 nm), and examined the resistance to soil biodegradation. A reagent-free one-pot treatment of a raw cotton fabric, where noncellulosic constituents of the raw cotton fiber and starch sizing served as reducing agents, produced silver nanoparticles with a total concentration of 11 g/kg. In a soil burial study spanning 16 weeks, untreated cotton underwent a sequential degradation process-fibrillation, fractionation, and merging-corresponding to the length of the soil burial period, whereas treated cotton did not exhibit significant degradation. The remarkable biodegradation resistance of the treated cotton was attributed to the antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles, as demonstrated through a test involving the soil-borne fungus Aspergillus flavus. The nonlinear loss behavior of silver from the treated cotton suggests that nanoparticle depletion in the soil depends on their location, with interior nanoparticles proving durable against environmental exposure.

Antimicrobial evaluation of silver nanoparticles using extracts of Crescentia cujete L.

New natural reducing agents with a lower negative impact on the environment and with a high antimicrobial potential are required for the process of obtaining silver nanoparticles through the chemical reduction method. The use of plant extracts can be a fast track in the formation of nanoparticles. In this case, organic compounds such as terpenes, flavonoids, enzymes, proteins, and cofactors present in plants act as reducing agents for nanomaterials. This research evaluated the antimicrobial property of silver nanoparticles from extracts of Crescentia cujete L. The presence of quercetin (flavonoid) was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC); the production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was established by green synthesis; the size and morphology of the nanomaterials were evaluated by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The antimicrobial capacity was studied by two analysis methods: modified culture medium and surface seeding. The presence of quercetin (26.55 mg L-1) in the crude extract of Crescentia cujete L., identified by HPLC, was evidenced. Nanoparticle formation was spherical, with an average size of 250 ± 3 and 460 ± 6 nm. Microbiological cultures with treatment showed 94% microbial inhibition. It was concluded that the Crescentia cujete L., leaves shoed an acceptable concentration of quercetin to be used as a useful adjuvant to enhance the reduction of NPs synthesis. The nanoparticles produced by green synthesis proved to have a positive effect to combat pathogenic microorganisms.

Antibacterial and Antioxidant Activity of Biosynthesized Silver Nanoparticle using Cassia Occidentalis

Nanotechnology is a fascinating field of research that has applications in various areas such as material science, medical science, life science, physical and chemical sciences. A study was conducted to determine the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles. The silver nanoparticles were biosynthesized from the leaves of Cassia occidentalis. The antimicrobial effectiveness of the biosynthesized silver nanoparticles was tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas Stutzeri, and in vitro antioxidant activities were measured using DPPH, FRAP, and Hydrogen peroxide. The microorganisms were treated with 10 and 20 µg/mL of the silver nanoparticles and 20 µg/mL of ciprofloxacin for 72 hours. After incubation, the silver nanoparticles significantly inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus (17.00 ± 2.50), which was higher than the inhibition observed with ciprofloxacin (15.00 ± 0.05). The zone of inhibition of Pseudomonas Stutzeri was 15.00 ± 3.00, which was inhibited by the silver nanoparticles compared to ciprofloxacin (22.00 ± 2.00). The silver nanoparticles also showed significant antioxidant activity compared to the standard ascorbic acid. In conclusion, the study found that the biosynthesized silver nanoparticles exhibited antimicrobial and antioxidant properties against the tested microorganisms.

Crosslinked hydrogel loaded with chitosan-supported iron oxide and silver nanoparticles as burn wound dressing

Burns can result in infection, disability, psychosocial and economic issues. Advanced wound dressings like hydrogel absorb exudate and maintain moisture. Considering the antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles and iron oxide nanoparticles, the efficiency of cross-linked hydrogel loaded with chitosan-supported iron oxide and silver nanoparticles for burn wounds repair was investigated in animal model. Cellulose hydrogel dressing made from carboxymethylcellulose and hydroxyethylcellulose crosslinked with different concentrations of citric acid (10, 15, 20, and 30%) was produced. The physicochemical characteristics of the synthetized hydrogels including Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy, Thermal behavior, Swelling properties, and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) were evaluated. The silver nanoparticles and iron nanoparticles were produced and the characteristics, cytotoxicity, antimicrobial activities and their synergistic effect were investigated. After adding nanoparticles to hydrogels, the effects of the prepared wound dressings were investigated in a 14-day animal model of burn wound. The results showed that the mixture comprising 12.5 ppm AgNps, and IONPs at a concentration ≤100 ppm was non-cytotoxic. Moreover, the formulations with 20% CA had a swelling ratio of almost 250, 340, and 500 g/g at pHs of 5, 6.2, and 7.4 after one hour, which are lower than those of formulations with 5 and 10% CA. The total mass loss (59.31%) and the exothermic degradation happened in the range of 273–335 °C and its T m was observed at 318.52 °C for hydrogels with 20% CA. Thus, the dressing comprising 20% CA which was loaded with 12.5 ppm silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and 100 ppm iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) indicated better physicochemical, microbial and non-cytotoxic characteristics, and accelerated the process of wound healing after 14 days. It was concluded that the crosslinked hydrogel loaded with 12.5 ppm AgNPs and 100 ppm IONPs possesses great wound healing activity and could be regarded as an effective topical burn wound healing treatment.

Evaluation of surface-modified orthodontic brackets with silver nanoparticles and its influence on bacterial inhibition – An in vitro study

: Compared to other fixed orthodontic appliances, orthodontic brackets have a substantial impact on enamel demineralization. This demineralization is a result of organic acid production by various microorganisms, primarily from Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus. Preventing white spot lesions and caries during orthodontic treatment presents a considerable challenge for clinicians. Silver exhibits broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against various microorganisms, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, certain viruses, fungi, protozoa, and antibiotic-resistant strains. As such, the purpose of this research is to investigate the antibacterial properties of orthodontic brackets coated with silver nanoparticles against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus. The study involved 80 stainless steel orthodontic brackets, which were divided into four groups, each containing 20 brackets. In each group, there were uncoated brackets serving as the control group, and the experimental group consisted of brackets coated with silver dioxide. Coating was done by physical vapor deposition with the help of RF Magnetron sputtering unit. Surface morphology and material composition was analyzed by SEM and EDS unit. Afterward, the brackets underwent microbiological tests to evaluate their antibacterial efficacy against Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus.The study found that silver nanoparticle-coated stainless-steel brackets exhibited effective antibacterial properties against both Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus when compared to the uncoated brackets. Silver nano particle coated SS brackets showed increased anti-bacterial effect towards S. mutans than L acidophilus.Using silver nanoparticles to coat orthodontic brackets represents an innovative and effective approach to prevent the formation of white spot lesions in patients receiving fixed orthodontic treatment. The antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles can combat bacteria like Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus acidophilus, responsible for enamel demineralization and the occurrence of white spot lesions. This advancement in bracket technology has the potential to significantly reduce the risk of enamel damage and improve overall oral health outcomes for orthodontic patients.

Antimicrobial Property of Silver Nanoparticles: Effects of Concentration and Temperature on Bacterial Isolates

Importance of hospital environment in patient-care has been recognized widely in infection prevention and control. Inappropriate antibiotic use led to emergence of resistant strains that are difficult to treat with the available antibiotics. Progress in nanotechnology led to enhancement of nanoparticles with physicochemical characteristics and functionality that overcomes the constraints of common antimicrobials. Aim was to investigate effective antimicrobial role of Silver nanoparticle (Ag-NPs) against clinically important bacterial strains and observe effects of varying storage temperatures on Ag-NPs antimicrobial activity. Different concentrations of Ag-NPs were tested against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii using diffusion method. Zone of inhibition (ZOI) for each organism was directly proportional to concentration of Ag-NPs used. Mean ZOI values at different concentrations were significantly different for all organisms with p-value <0.001 for E. coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and 0.004 for A. baumannii. Variation in storage temperature hardly showed any effects on the antimicrobial property of the Ag-NPs. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed morphological and size variations in Ag-NPs exposed cells when compared to control strains, especially for S. aureus, E. coli and P. aeruginosa. Damaged cell membrane areas can be clearly distinguished in E. coli and P. aeruginosa thus suggesting bacterial membrane disruption. These finding can help design a larger study where Ag-NPs can be used in various medical instruments which are usually kept at room temperatures. Also, outcomes of this study may help in designing proper implants, prosthesis and equipment coated with minimum concentration of nanoparticles that might be considered safe for medical applications.

Evaluation of Antimicrobial Effect of Silver Nanoparticle Based Whey Emulsions and Edible Films for the Extension of Shelf Life of Fruits and Vegetables.

The purpose of this study was to develop and assess the antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)-based whey emulsions and edible films for extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. The AgNPs were synthesized using a biological method, and their morphological and topographical characteristics were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The AgNPs were incorporated into the emulsions and films to increase their antimicrobial efficacy. Bacterial and fungal strains were identified by DNA regions, including 16S and 18S rRNA, TEF-1α, and RPB2 to evaluate antimicrobial activity. AgNPs-based emulsions and films were used to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables for up to 15days. The results showed that the use of AgNPs in the coated samples significantly increased their effectiveness against bacterial and fungal strains. SEM analysis revealed the presence of AgNPs of varying sizes, ranging from 21 to 62nm. The zones of inhibition were measured against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus tamari, and Aspergillus niger. The total viable count (log cfu/ml) decreased from 6.423 in the control group to 3.301 in the treated samples. The antioxidant activity of the treated fruits and vegetables was also significantly improved, with values of 56.12, 23.36, 26.10, 7.6, 36.04, and 33.81% for strawberry, taro root, guava, peas, green chili, and carrot, respectively (p < 0.05). The AgNPs-based whey protein emulsions were found to exhibit the highest antimicrobial activity and are therefore a promising approach to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables.

Grapevine Plants Management Using Natural Extracts and Phytosynthesized Silver Nanoparticles.

Starting from the well-known antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles, the goal of this study is to evaluate the influence of two "green" recipes, namely an alcoholic extract of Dryopteris filix-mas (L.) Schott and a dispersion of silver nanoparticles phytosynthesized using the extract on grapevine pathogens. The influence of some grapevine parameters (pith/wood rapport, soluble sugars, starch, total sugars, total water content, length of young shoots, number of grapes) in field experiments was also studied. The study was conducted on four clones (Feteasca alba 97 St., Feteasca neagra 6 St., Feteasca regala 72 St., and Cabernet Sauvignon 131 St.) located in vegetation pots inside a greenhouse. For the phytosynthesis of the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) we used a scaled-up technology, allowing us to obtain large quantities of nanoparticles-containing solution. The AgNPs analysis by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy confirmed the synthesis of spherical and quasi-spherical nanoparticles of 17 nm average diameter and 6.72 nm crystallite size. The field experiments registered different responses of the four clones to the treatment, using both the natural extracts and phytosynthesized nanoparticles solution. Both recipes exhibited a protective effect against the Uncinula necator pathogen. For the treatment using phytosynthesized nanoparticles, significant increases in the pith/wood ratio for white wine clones (Feteasca alba 97 St. and Feteasca regala 72 St.) were observed. The biochemical analyses revealed other significant increases of soluble sugars (red wine clones-Feteasca neagra and Cabernet Sauvignon/second year), starch (Feteasca alba and Cabernet Sauvignon in 2021 for both clones), total sugars (Feteasca alba and Feteasca neagra in 2021 for both clones), and of total water content (Feteasca alba and Feteasca neagra in 2021 for both clones), respectively. The applied treatments also led to an increase of young shoots length and grape numbers for all clones as compared to the control (chemical pesticide), which would suggest a potential biostimulant effect of the recipes.

PH Alteration in Plant-Mediated Green Synthesis and Its Resultant Impact on Antimicrobial Properties of Silver Nanoparticles (AgNPs)

Plant-mediated green synthesis is a cost-effective and eco-friendly process used to synthesize metallic nanoparticles. Experimental pH is of interest due to its ability to influence nanoparticle size and shape; however, little has been explored in comparison to the influence of this parameter on the therapeutic potential of resultant metallic nanoparticles. Our work investigated the influence of pH alternation on antimicrobial properties of plant-mediated green synthesized (using Spinacia oleracea leaf extract) silver nanoparticles. We further investigated if the antimicrobial activity was sustained at 8 weeks (after initial green synthesis). Antimicrobial properties were evaluated against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. Our work confirmed that experimental pH in plant-mediated green synthesis of silver nanoparticles influenced their resultant antimicrobial properties. Silver nanoparticles generated at experimental pH 4,5, and nine showed activity against E. coli which was sustained at various levels over 8 weeks. No antimicrobial activity was observed against S. aureus, and weak antimicrobial activity against C. albicans. These interesting findings highlight the importance of experimental pH. Further understanding of the role experimental pH plays on resultant metallic nanoparticle properties as it relates to biological and therapeutic impact is required, which will have an impact on wider applications beyond antimicrobial activity.

Characterization Of Phyto-Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles And Their Antimicrobial Activity Against Diabetic Foot Ulcer Bacterial Isolates.

Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) is one of the major complications of Diabetes. Patients with Diabetic Foot ulcers have a high susceptibility to microbial infections and are the leading cause of hospitalization and amputation of lower limbs. In the era of increased prevalence of bacterial resistance and outbreak of resistant infectious diseases, it is very essential to develop effective therapeutic strategies towards multi-drug resistant pathogens. The antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles have been well studied, therefore their use in biomedicine and pharmacology is a trend. Herein we present the use of Phyto-mediated synthesized AgNPs for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers by topical administration. The nanoparticles were synthesized by reducing silver nitrate using Terminalia chebula fruit extract. The nanoparticles were analyzed and characterized using UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, FTIR, XRD, SEM with EDAX, TEM, and DLS. The synthesized silver nanoparticles were assayed for antimicrobial activity against five Diabetic Foot Ulcer bacterial isolates i.e. Escherichia coli, Klebsiella Pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis. The bactericidal property of synthesized nanoparticles was analyzed by the Agar well diffusion method, which revealed the remarkable antimicrobial effects against all the selective pathogenic bacterial isolates of Diabetic foot ulcers in the present study. These results constituted the basis for further studies on the use of plant-based silver nanoparticles for the treatment of Diabetic Foot ulcers from different origins.&#x0D;

A review, tabulation of the Antimicrobial Effect of Silver Nanoparticles

Silver nanoparticles are used in every single aspect of science including medical and pharmaceuticals, as they have high antimicrobial effects because of their large surface area to volume ratio, which is the curiosity of new researchers on antibiotics, the growing microbial resistance and the development of resistant strains. Silver nanoparticles are the superabundant antimicrobial agent for bacteria, fungi, algae and are less noxious to human cells than bacterial cells. Silver nanoparticles are used to control germination in a variety of applications, such as antibacterial coating for medicinal materials to promote wound healing and prevent infection, and antibacterial vaccines to control bacterial diseases. In the current work, a review of the antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles is compiled in tabular form reported by different research groups. The aim of this review is to discuss the present state of affairs and suggestions for future possibilities in this field.

Effectiveness of AgNp Coatings on a PyC Surface in a Staph. Epidermidis-Infused Fluid Flow Model

There is a medical need for a more effective heart valve coating that reduces both thrombotic potential and biofilm formation. The antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles have placed them under consideration for this application. The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of varying concentrations of silver nanoparticle (AgNP) coatings on a pyrolytic surface in a Staphylococcus epidermidis-infused fluid flow model. I hypothesized that as the concentration of the AgNP coating is increased, then there will be a decrease in the Staphylococcus epidermidis growth on the PyC surface because of the hydrophobic and antibiotic properties of silver nanoparticles. I produced a fluid flow model and tested the practicality of different concentrations of AgNps while running the fluid flow model by swabbing the plate for bacteria and incubating the bacteria for seven days. I found that the highest concentration of silver nanoparticles created the highest level of bacterial resistance and the lowest level of fluid retention when inside the model. Through these experiments, the unique properties of AgNp have been utilized to effectively create a more effective heart valve coating that both reduces the need for further medication after implantation, as well as the risk of biofilm formation on the prosthetic valve.

Preparation of green silver nanoparticles with high antibacterial ability using N-maleoyl chitosan and montmorillonite

The antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are significantly affected by their size. In our previous study, we synthesized low-toxicity AgNPs using chitosan derivatives. As chemical reductants and stabilizers were not used in the preparation process, the toxicity of the products was very low. However, the size of the as-obtained nanoparticles was relatively large (100–150 nm). In this study, we used N-maleoyl chitosan and montmorillonite to prepare small-sized green AgNPs and investigated the effect of the reaction system viscosity and crystal growth space on the formation of small-sized nanoparticles. We found that increasing the viscosity of the reaction system or controlling the crystal growth space was conducive to the green preparation of small-sized AgNPs. The prepared AgNPs had higher antibacterial ability and lower cytotoxicity. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that AgNPs with such a small size (less than 5 nm) have been prepared using a simple and completely green method.

Antimicrobial activity of chemically and biologically synthesized silver nanoparticles against some fish pathogens

Pathogens isolated from fish appear to possess considerable antimicrobial resistance and represent a problem for the economy and public health. Natural antimicrobial substitutes to traditional antibiotics represent an essential tool in the fight against antibiotic resistance. Nanotechnology has shown considerable potential in different research fields, and the antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles are known. Silver has been used for medical purposes since ancient times because of its bactericidal properties, and the highly reactive surfaces of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) indicate that they might have a function in antimicrobial applications. This work aimed to study the antimicrobial properties of biologically produced AgNPs from Origanum vulgare leaves compared to chemically produced AgNPs. Both types were characterized by UV–vis spectrophotometry, TEM, and dynamic light scattering and tested against three bacterial strains (Streptococcus agalactiae, and Aeromonas hydrophila, both isolated from Nile tilapia and Vibrio alginolyticus, isolated from sea bass) and three fungal strains (Aspergillus flavus, Fusarium moniliforme, and Candida albicans, all isolated from Nile tilapia). Disk diffusion test and evaluation of ultrastructure changes of tested microorganisms treated with AgNPs by transmission electron microscopy were performed. Moreover, the hemolytic properties of AgNPs were studied on chicken and goat red blood cells. The results obtained declare that the green biological production of silver nanoparticles is safer and more effective than the chemical one; moreover, AgNPs have interesting dose-dependent antimicrobial properties, with better results for biologically produced ones; their effectiveness against tested bacterial and fungal strains opens the way to their use to limit fish diseases, increase economy and improve human health.

Phyto-Mediated silver nanoparticles via melissa officinalis aqueous and methanolic extracts: Synthesis, characterization and biological properties against infectious bacterial strains

Background: The present study was aimed to examine the influence of extraction method on the morphology, physico-chemical characteristics and antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized from Melissa officinalis.Methods: AgNPs were prepared by two extraction methods. The properties of obtained nanoparticles were characterized by SEM, UV-Vis, XRD and FTIR techniques. SEM images showed different shape, size and morphology of AgNPs using two different extracts types.Results: The UV-Vis spectroscopy confirmed the formation of AgNPs by observing a distinct surface Plasmon resonance band around 450 nm. SEM images showed different shape, size and morphology of AgNPs using two different extracts types. AgNPs derived from the aqueous extract were rod-shaped with a diameter of 19 to 40 nm whereas spherical particles were synthesized by the methanolic extract found smaller with size distribution ranging from 13 to 35 nm. The XRD pattern indicated that AgNPs formed by the reduction of Ag+ ions using the methanolic extract were crystal-like in nature. The functional groups of the methanolic extract involved in synthesis and stabilization of AgNPs were investigated by FTIR. In addition, AgNPs containing methanolic extract showed higher antioxidant activity.Conclusion: The disc diffusion and agar well diffusion methods revealed the antimicrobial potential of these particles exhibited remarkable antimicrobial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria and a fungus. The production of silver nanoparticles using plant extract is rapid, low cost and eco-friendly. Silver nanoparticles can be used as an antiseptic to sterilize the surrounding area and the hospital wastes.

Antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles prepared by Acacia etbaica (Schweinf.) valve extract

Here, we employed green and very fast (clock) synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by means of silver nitrate and Acacia etbaica valve extract at room temperature. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results confirm the spherical shape and diameter (size) ranging from 6.38 ± 3.21, 10.09 ± 3.21 and 20 ± 3.21 for AeAg-1, AeAg-2 and AeAg-3, respectively. TEM results showed that size of AgNPs increase as the concentration of AgNO3 decreases due to the low concentration of bio reducing agent present in the extract. The enhanced antimicrobial activity against human pathogenic microbes was investigated by diffusion method based on zone of inhibition. The prepared AgNPs showed high specificity against the tested pathogens, namely K. pneumonia, S. typhi, S. dysenteriae, P. mirabilis, S. saprophyticus, S. aureus and C. albican with inhibition zone between 22.3 ± 2.08 mm and 11.67 ± 1.15 mm. On the other hand, the prepared AgNPs did not exhibit high specifity against E. Faecalis and P. aeruginosa. Therefore, it can be concluded that the prepared AgNPs have potential as natural antimicrobial agents against microbes with multidrug resistance.

Application of silver nanoparticles to reduce bacterial growth on leather for footwear manufacturing

Foot infections are difficult to eradicate, patients with diabetes mellitus among others are more susceptible to them, therefore preventive strategies and effective antimicrobial agents are needed. The antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are well known thus they are a trend for biomedical applications. The aim of this study was to investigate the antibacterial and antifungal activity of leather coated with AgNPs against two bacteria species Pseudomonas mendocina and Pseudomonas syringae, and the fungi Trichophyton mentagrophytes responsible for foot infections. Porcine leather was cut off and sprinkled with solutions containing various concentrations of metallic AgNPs. Inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and texture analysis of the leather were performed to quantify the silver metallic concentration metallic silver and to test the effect of AgNPs on leather softness. Antimicrobial activity was measured by agar diffusion test for zone of inhibition (ZoI). The textural analysis of the coated leather showed that the application of AgNPs diminished its softness in a concentration dependency manner. The results from the antimicrobial activity revealed that leather coated with 0.05% of metallic AgNPs had the best antibacterial effect. A decrease in the growth of T. mentagrophytes was observed on the leather coated with 0.25% of metallic AgNPs; however, this concentration was not enough to abolish fungal growing. In conclusion, the application of AgNPs to porcine leather decreased its softness but added beneficial antibacterial properties to avoid bacterial foot infections. Leather coated with AgNPs could be used as a suitable material to prevent foot infections and it could provide added value for shoes manufacturing.

Known data on the effectiveness of silver nano particles on root canal disinfection.

The goal of endodontic treatment is the debridement and removal of the microbial ecosystem associated with the disease process. The need for root canal disinfectants increases especially in those cases where infection is resistant to the regular treatment and the outcome of endodontic therapy is often compromised. Therefore, it is of interest to document the known effectiveness of silver nanoparticle based root canal disinfectants with other root canal disinfectants on microbial load reduction during root canal disinfection. Known data shows that the overall risk of bias for the selected studies was moderate. Silver nanoparticle based root canal disinfectants showed superior reduction of microbial counts in majority of the studies. This data is limited to vitro studies with no clinical information to validate the use of antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles used as root canal disinfectant.
