AbstractThe experimental implementation of a T‐shaped microstrip‐fed printed 8‐element slot‐array antenna is presented in this paper. Although the use of a high relative permittivity (εr = 4.3) substrate usually restricts the operation bandwidth, the radiation resistance also has a low value. The dependence of design parameters ld, offset on the bandwidth characteristics is investigated. The measured bandwidth of the 8‐array slot array antenna is 1.3933 to 2.5989 GHz, which is approximately 60.3% for the S11 ≤ −10 dB. The obtained 10‐dB return‐loss impedance bandwidth covers the DCS (1.71–1.88 GHz), PCS (1.85–1.99 GHz), IMT‐2000 (1.90–2.20 GHz), UMTS (1.92–2.17 GHz), WLL (2.40–2.48 GHz) bands. The measured peak gain of the 8‐array slot‐array antenna in the usable frequency band is more than approximately 10.5 dBi. This antenna is an attractive candidate for wireless, satellite, and mobile communications applications. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
