Sealing performance analysis of pressure controller in pressure core sampling for seafloor drill

In order to improve the working reliability of pressure controller in the pressure core sampling for the seafloor drill, the challenges faced by the pressure controller in the working phase are analyzed. The working parameters of Y-ring on the pressure-retaining performance are analyzed. The optimization scheme of the working parameters for Y-ring is obtained and verified by sea trial. The conclusions are as follows: The gap extrusion degree of Y-ring is proportional to the working pressure. When the working pressure exceeds 20 MPa, the increase rate of the maximum contact stress increases. Under the condition that the friction coefficient is 0.1–0.4, the safety margin of the maximum contact stress is proportional to the friction coefficient. When the friction coefficient increases from 0.4 to 0.5, the safety margin decreases. Under the condition that the interference is 0.66–0.76 mm, the growth rate of the maximum Mises stress is slow. when the interference is 0.7 and 0.76 mm, the safety margin decreases. When the extrusion gap is 0.4–0.6 mm, the increase trend of safety margin is more obvious. When the extrusion gap is 0.6 mm, the growth rate of the maximum Mise stress increases. The success rate of the sealing cap installation is about 80%.

A comprehensive performance analysis of advanced hybrid MPPT controllers for fuel cell systems

The present power generation corporations are working on Renewable Power Systems (RPS) for supplying electrical power to the automotive power industries. There are several categories of RPSs available in the atmosphere. Among all of the RPSs, the most general power network used for Electric Vehicles (EVs) is hydrogen fuel which is available in nature. The H2 fuel is fed to the Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Stack (PEMFS) for producing electricity for the EV stations. The advantages of this selected fuel system are more power conversion efficiency, environmentally friendly, low carbon emissions, more power density, less starting time, plus able to work at very low-temperature values. However, this fuel stack faces the issue of a nonlinear power density curve. Due to this nonlinear power supply from the fuel stack, the functioning point of the overall network changes from one position of the I–V curve to another position. So, the peak voltage extraction from the fuel stack is not possible. In this article, there are various metaheuristic optimization-based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) methodologies are studied along with the conventional methods for obtaining the Maximum Power Point (MPP) position of the PEMFS. From the simulative investigation, the Continuous Different Slope Value-based Cuckoo Search Method (CDSV with CSM) provides better efficiency with more output power. Also, for all the MPPT methods comprehensive analysis has been made by utilizing the simulation results.

Aerodynamic modeling and performance analysis of model predictive controller for fixed wing vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicle

This research focuses mainly on the aerodynamic modelling and performance analysis of a model predictive controller for a hybrid fixed-wing vertical takeoff and landing of unmanned aerial vehicle. The aerodynamics, which comprises several aerodynamic characteristics including the lift, drag, and thrust coefficients, is modelled using Newton’s second law of motion. The force and moment equations were obtained, and they were then converted into matrix and state equation form, together with the transformation matrices. The essential equations with six degrees of freedom (6 DoF) and 12 state matrices including the control input and manipulating variables were obtained. The proposed model predictive controller (MPC) was designed using the optimal model predictive controller design parameters, such as a sampling time of 0.1, a prediction horizon of 15, a control horizon of 3 and additional controller settings. With a settling period of 3 s, an overshoot of 0.5865, and a steady state inaccuracy of 0.00785, the MATLAB simulation demonstrates that the system variables, including roll, pitch, and yaw, are stabilized. This MPC control is more effective in anticipating and optimizing the UAV than other control strategies. Eventually, the controller’s simulation on MATLAB Simulink demonstrates the controller’s ability to stabilize and control the system in a real-time application. Autonomous vertical takeoff and landing operations depend heavily on the mathematical model and architecture of the flight controller. Among the uses are inspection, monitoring, and rescue.

Cascade control algorithm for slip rate in a brake-by-wire system based on direct drive valve

To achieve a rapid response and precise control of braking hydraulic pressure, a brake-by-wire electro-hydraulic braking system based on a direct drive valve was designed. This system employs an electromagnetic linear actuator to drive the valve core directly, achieving swift adjustment of brake wheel cylinder hydraulic pressure. Given the strong coupling and non-linearity of the electromagnetic linear actuator, solely using a single-loop controller to control the slip rate can easily lead to weakened system performance. Hence, we proposed a cascade control algorithm for the brake-by-wire system, with an outer loop for slip rate control and an inner loop for direct drive valve position. The outer loop adopted a fuzzy PID control, while the inner loop adopted a model-free adaptive sliding mode control. By combining model-free adaptive control with a novel discrete exponential approach, we addressed the system’s non-linearity and unknown disturbances. A braking system test platform was constructed to verify the superior hydraulic tracking performance of this brake-by-wire system and to perform slip rate control performance analysis under different road conditions. Results demonstrated that compared to the fuzzy PID-MFAC algorithm, the proposed fuzzy PID-MFASMC control enhanced car slip rate control precision, and reduced both braking time and distance.

Control strategy design and performance analysis of a low carbon and high ratio green energy CCHP (LCHRG-CCHP) system

In order to solve the compatibility of combined cooling, heating and power (CCHP) system with green energy and the coupling problem with energy storage equipment, the system structure (LCHRG-CCHP system) proposed in this paper for the low-carbon and high-green energy compatible optimization research of the integrated energy system integrating green energy and flexible hybrid energy storage. Aiming at the high compatibility and low carbon emission of CCHP system to green energy, the traditional CCHP system, the combination of CCHP system and green energy, the combination of CCHP system and green energy and short-term energy storage, and the combination of CCHP system and green energy and long-term and short-term energy storage are compared. The intelligent optimization algorithm combining improved sine dung beetle optimizer and linear support vector machine algorithm (MDBO-LSVM) is used to solve the problem. The results show that in the CCHP system, the coupling of short-term energy storage and long-term energy storage can effectively improve the compatibility of the system with green energy. The proportion of green energy in the system proposed in this paper is increased by 13.32 %, which can reach an average of 23.91 %, while the carbon emissions are reduced by 37.34 %, which effectively improves the energy utilization rate.

Performance of a deep in situ pressure-preserving coring controller in a high-temperature and ultrahigh-pressure test system

The pressure-preserving controller is the key component of deep in situ pressure-preserving coring (IPP-Coring). With increasing drilling depth, the environmental temperature and pressure increase accordingly. However, due to the strength and sealing problems of pressure-preserving controllers, the coring pressure is generally lower than 70 MPa. Establishing a high-temperature and ultrahigh-pressure test system is highly important for improving the strength and sealing performance of pressure-preserving controllers. This paper introduces a high-temperature and ultrahigh-pressure test system for deep IPP-Coring controller performance analysis. The device includes six parts: an auxiliary air source system, a pressurization system, a temperature control system, a hydraulic system, a data acquisition and electrical control system, and an ultrahigh-pressure vessel. The test system can reconstruct a 150 °C and 200 MPa in situ environment and simulate and test the movement state of the corer and the stability of the pressure-preserving action trigger of the pressure-preserving controller in the deep IPP-Coring process. To verify the performance of this test system, saddle-shaped pressure-preserving controllers made of four different materials were subjected to pressure tests under normal-temperature and high-temperature conditions. The results showed that the ultimate pressure-bearing capability of the pressure-preserving controller greatly varied between normal-temperature and high-temperature conditions. The pressure-preserving ability and sealing performance of the pressure-preserving controller decreased significantly at high temperature, and the pressure-preserving controller exhibited significantly different sealing failure characteristics due to material differences. This study is important for progressing the extraction and evaluation of deep reservoir resources.

Performance Analysis of ANFIS-PID Controller based Speed Regulation and Harmonic Reduction in BLDC Motor Application

This study focuses on assessing the performance of a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller integrated with an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) in the context of speed regulation and harmonic reduction in Brushless DC (BLDC) motor applications. Rising BLDC motor speed elevates Total harmonic distortion (THD) due to non-linearity. THD reduction is vital for efficiency, reliability, and compliance in applications like electric vehicles, HVAC, and industrial automation, ensuring optimal performance and longevity. Through simulation-based design and implementation, the effectiveness of the ANFIS-PID controller is evaluated for achieving precise speed control and reducing harmonic distortions in a virtual environment. Various conventional control topologies are considered, with the ANFIS-PID controller demonstrating superior performance. The synergy of adaptive fuzzy logic and classic control components allows the ANFIS-PID controller to outperform others, particularly in dynamic conditions and varying motor characteristics, offering enhanced speed regulation and harmonic reduction in BLDC motor applications. Detailed simulations in MATLAB/Simulink software thoroughly assess the controller's dynamic response and its ability to accurately regulate BLDC motor speed while concurrently reducing harmonic distortions.

Trajectory Tracking and Disturbance Rejection Performance Analysis of Classical and Advanced Controllers for a SCORBOT Robot

This work presents the design and assessment of four control schemes for the monitoring and regulation of joint trajectories applied in the dynamic model of a SCORBOT-ER V plus robot, which includes the dynamics of the actuators, and the estimation of the friction forces present within the joints. The two classical control strategies calculated torque and PID, and the two advanced control strategies, fuzzy and predictive, are considered. In the latter case, a gravitational compensation stage is incorporated, as well as the inverse models of the motors and the transmissions of belt movement for each joint. Computational tests are performed by applying an external step-type disturbance to the third joint of the robot. Finally, an evaluation of the results obtained is presented through trajectory curves, joint errors, and the three performance indexes residual mean square, residual standard deviation, and index of agreement.

This paper explores the control design and performance analysis of an active quasi-zero-stiffness vibration isolator utilizing the proportional-retarded (PR) control architecture. The PR architecture replaces the conventional “derivative” term in the proportional-derivative (or displacement-velocity) controller with the novel “retarded (time-delayed)” term, which is a new and effective way of active vibration suppression. Comprehensive gain-delay conjoint regulation strategies are developed for the strengthened isolation performance. For impact excitations, a complete stability analysis is conducted near the equilibrium position. Furthermore, a parameterized dominant pole placement algorithm is proposed to optimize the transient response of the PR-actuated isolator. Focusing on the rectangular pulse and long-duration step impacts, the algorithm adjusts the dominant poles to optimize the transient performance metrics, including the maximum displacement overshoot, steady-state displacement overshoot, and settling time. Regarding harmonic excitations, the delay-coupled effect is scrutinized for better low-frequency isolation performance, including the resonance frequency, nonlinear steady-state amplitude, multiple steady-state bands and nonlinearity elimination, equivalent active damping and stiffness, and absolute displacement transmissibility. In the case of random excitations, we demonstrate the superiority of the PR structure over the passive system.

Suspension systems in vehicles are crucial to both ride quality and driving security. The challenge of creating an effective control mechanism for automotive active suspension systems is addressed in this work. In the event of unforeseen road disturbances, the active suspension systems are intended to deliver a more pleasant ride and good handling. Fuzzy-Linear Quadratic Gaussian (FLQG) and Fuzzy-Linear Quadratic Regulator (FLQR) controllers adapting to road disturbances are proposed to enhance vehicle comfort through the reduction of the driver's overall body acceleration. The simulation findings demonstrate that the FLQR and FLQG controllers are efficient in adjusting the automotive suspension configuration under varying road profiles compared to those of the conventional LQR and LQG controllers.

A Comprehensive Review of FACTS Controllers in Nigeria Power Systems Network for Enhanced Performance on Variable Loads

Interest on FACTS controllers in the scientific and engineering community have increased due to their high reliability, low cost, and absence of infrastructural overhauling. In the context of global sustainability, it is required that FACTS controllers must fulfill physical, technological, and environmental requirements, through design and optimization studies. This study provides a comprehensive evaluation of the state-of-the-art technologies relevant to multi-objective optimization and performance analysis of FACTS controllers. Types, general overview, FACTS deployed in the Nigerian power systems and multi-objective location optimization and their impact were discussed. Several efficient optimization strategies from recent research works are highlighted and compared, showing that there are research gaps on the integration of advanced control algorithms and use of robust optimization methods.

Control strategies and performance analysis for a novel nuclear heating system with heat storage

A nuclear heating system integrated with a heat storage tank (HST-NHS) is a promising technical solution for countries with large-scale heating demand. HST-NHS can greatly curtail carbon dioxide emissions and contribute to sustainable development. Appropriate control strategies are not only crucial to realize the real-time matching between HST-NHS heat supply and heat demand, but also ensure the stable and safe operation of HST-NHS. Until now, control strategies for HST-NHS have received limited attention. A refined dynamic simulation model for HST-NHS is established based on APROS software. The verification of the built model in steady state and transient state is completed. Two basic control strategies for the primary heating network (PHN) of HST-NHS, constant supply water temperature and variable flow rate (CT-VF) and variable supply water temperature and constant flow rate (VT-CF) are presented in detail. Based on various typical working conditions of a central heating region in Liaoyuan City, the control effects of two control strategies are investigated. Additionally, a comprehensive performance comparison between the two strategies is explored. Simulation results indicated that under the two control strategies, the indoor temperature can be effectively controlled at a high comfort level. During the same typical day, the total energy consumption cost under the VT-CF control strategy is 0.5 × 105 yuan lower than that under the CT-VF control strategy.

Multiobjective Integrated Optimal Control for Nonlinear Systems.

The multiobjective optimal control method optimizes the performance indexes of nonlinear systems to obtain setpoints, and designs a controller to track the setpoints. However, the stepwise optimal control method that independently analyzes the optimization process may obtain unfeasible and difficult to track setpoints, which will reduce the operation and control performance of the systems. To solve this problem, a multiobjective integrated optimal control (MIOC) strategy is proposed for nonlinear systems in this article. The main contributions of MIOC are threefold. First, in the framework of multiobjective model predictive control, an integrated control structure with a comprehensive cost function and a collaborative optimization algorithm is designed to achieve the coordinate optimal control. Second, for the time inconformity of setpoints and control laws caused by the characteristic of tracking control, the different prediction horizons are designed for the comprehensive cost function. Then, the collaborative optimization algorithm is proposed for the comprehensive cost function to achieve the integrated solution of setpoints and control laws to enhance the operation and control performance of nonlinear systems. Third, the stability and control performance analysis of MIOC is provided. Finally, the proposed MIOC method is applied for a nonlinear system to demonstrate its effectiveness.

Position control performance analysis of linear actuator in swashplate-controlled electro hydrostatic actuation system

The position control of an energy efficient electrohydraulic actuation system is a decisive characteristic of its performance. In position control applications, a servo valve and/or variable displacement pump are vital to control the position of the linear actuator. In this open-loop control experimental work, the position of a linear actuator having a stroke length of 0.2 m is controlled by a swashplate-controlled electro hydrostatic actuation system. LabVIEW is used to create the control algorithm, and the National Instrument compact-RIO controller is used to control the voltage supply. The National Instruments controller processes sinusoidal and square demand signals at frequencies of 1/16, 1/12, 1/8, and 1/4 Hz. Open-loop control performance is predominantly dependent on the appropriate tuning of the voltage supply. Control performance is evaluated using the parameters integrated absolute error, integrated square error, integrated time absolute error, and integrated time square error. In comparison to square demand, it has been found that sinusoidal demand offers better position control accuracy, and square demand also offers appropriate control accuracy only at lower frequencies (1/16 Hz).
