When one considers the varied rôles played by proteins in the body, the problem of controlling or modifying their behavior becomes one of great complexity. The catabolism of protein, giving rise to urea, sulphuric and phosphoric acids, must be limited to the capacities of damaged kidneys to excrete these substances.
