Agile Project Management in the Pre-Construction Stage: Facing the Challenges of Projectification in the Construction Industry

Given the complex and dispersed nature of construction projects, which demand collaboration among varied experts, it is crucial to reevaluate project management and execution approaches to enhance their performance. Agile principles offer a path towards heightened responsiveness within tasks and processes, addressing the construction industry’s fast-paced nature and growing client demands for timely project completion. However, adopting new management methodologies, such as Agile, needs a significant cultural shift, enabling the cultivation of multi-skilled and self-managing teams. Projectification, a growing trend in contemporary society where more activities are managed as projects, has gained significant relevance in recent years. This study examines the application of Agile project management (specifically Agile Scrum methodology) during the pre-construction phase of a construction project through the lens of Projectification. As evidenced by the research results, applying the Agile methodology in the pre-construction phase may help enhance flexibility and collaboration, enabling teams to adapt quickly to evolving project requirements and unforeseen challenges. The findings demonstrate that Agile methodologies offer numerous benefits, including enhanced adaptability, flexibility, accountability, transparency, and teamwork. Additionally, there were significant reductions in time and costs, emphasizing the value of Agile practices in construction project management.

Challenge-Based Learning and Scrum as Enablers of 4.0 Technologies in Engineering Education

Incorporating Industry 4.0 technologies in higher education is crucial for preparing future engineers in a digitalized industrial environment. A challenge-based educational model and the agile Scrum methodology were implemented to move in this direction, combined with the use of Industry 4.0 technologies. New physical and virtual laboratories were enabled with Industry 4.0 hardware/software equipment. The engineering academic programs at the second-largest university in Chile were modified, and all the academic staff involved were trained. Based on conducting challenges that Industry 4.0 technologies can address, this study presents the results of implementing a new educational model and students’ response to freely adopting new technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and collaborative robotics. The results showed a high rate of acceptance and use of 4.0 technologies by the students, so the proposed methodology could be extrapolated to other engineering programs worldwide.

Implementing Agile Scrum Methodology in the Development of SMART PEKAN at Batu City Environment Service

The preparation of reports on the activities of the functional position group for the Batu City Environmental Service is still being carried out in the usual way. Making announcements on activities at any time must begin by creating a new page. That matter could be more effective and efficient because the structure of each activity report is the same. This research aims to develop a report creation system whose workings make it easier for users to create activity reports. The system makes the activity reports according to users needs based on the information obtained during interviews and observation. The system is developed using the Agile framework with the Scrum method. This research produces SMART PEKAN (Functional Position Group Activity Report Creation System), a website that makes reports on Functional Position Group activities using automatic report templates. SMART PEKAN can be a tool that facilitates making reports on the activities of users by utilizing the progress of an existing technology to implement digital transformation in the government sector to support the Smart City movement. Realidad aumentada en educación universitaria

This study presents the “Augmented Reality in University Education” project, whose objective was to develop and evaluate mobile applications with augmented reality (AR) to improve the learning of Information Technology students at the Technological University of Nayarit. The literature review offers a clear definition of AR and documents international research on its use in education, with a specific analysis in the state of Nayarit. The research methodology was of a mixed nature, with a quasi-experimental design, in the development of the applications the agile Scrum methodology was used, subsequently implementing an experimental evaluation phase to verify the functionality and effectiveness of the apps in the educational environment; Questionnaires, observations and interviews were used to collect data on usability, motivation and improvement in student learning. Three mobile applications were created for the Data Structure and Databases subjects. The results showed that the applications are functional and were valued by students in usability, motivation and usefulness as an educational complement. The conclusions highlight that the applications allow students to use interactive models to understand abstract concepts, which improves their learning experience.

Given the fintech industry’s rapid evolution, maintaining a competitive edge requires constant innovation, particularly in user activation and retention within the first month of usage. This research employs a comprehensive data analysis framework, integrating Time Series Analysis, Descriptive Analysis, and Correlation Analysis methods to extract actionable insights from user data stored in MySQL databases. The study also incorporates strategic planning tools like SWOT and TOWS analysis to identify and implement UI/UX enhancements using the Agile Scrum methodology. The effectiveness of these interventions is evaluated through a robust post-analysis, comparing metrics before and after the implementation across mobile and desktop platforms. Results demonstrate a significant improvement in user activation and retention rates on mobile platforms, validating the efficacy of the applied strategies. This paper contributes valuable insights into optimizing user experience in a dynamic market, emphasizing a structured, iterative approach to achieving sustained user engagement and business growth.

Implementation of a teaching self-evaluation module in the substantive function of research at the technical university of cotopaxi la maná extension

The present study addresses the implementation of a teaching self-assessment module at the Technical University of Cotopaxi Extension La Maná, with the objective of strengthening the substantive function of research within the institution, through a mixed methodology that combines qualitative and quantitative approaches. , the module was carried out in collaboration with the teaching staff, using tools such as Visual Studio Code, Laragon, HTML, CSS, SQL, PHP, JavaScript, Bootstrap and jQuery. The agile Scrum methodology was adopted, dividing the project into 2-4 week sprints, allowing for an iterative and incremental approach with continuous feedback. Performance tests and performance evaluations were implemented that involved teachers and academic authorities, guaranteeing the effectiveness, usability, relevance, reliability and validity of the module in the evaluation of research competencies. The implementation of the teaching self-assessment module, following the agile Scrum methodology, has proven to be a valuable tool to promote continuous improvement and academic excellence in the institution, strengthening the substantive function of research at the Technical University of Cotopaxi La Maná Extension.

Mobile application for sending and receiving academic messages

We live in a competitive and globalized world in which innovation is essential for the development of new services and products that favor the generation of value in society. This is the case of education where the integration of information and communications technologies has made possible the innovation of teaching-learning processes, as is the case of the use of mobile devices inside and outside the classroom. However, inevitably, there are still barriers to being able to provide real-time interconnectivity in the educational context. Hence arises the importance of the implementation of mobile devices to revolutionize educational practices that provide optimal education of excellence. This project aims to develop a new modality through the application of mobile devices for smartphones, which allows receiving relevant messages of academic interest for students from teachers and coordinators of a higher education institution, at the same time, allowing that academic coordinators and students have excellent communication in real time in locations far from metropolitan areas. It was developed with a qualitative, transversal methodology and as a research technique, software development using the agile scrum methodology. The evidence found proposes a broad field for research on the use of applications in the educational context and the pedagogical potential of mobile devices in higher education and allows us to propose a broad field for future studies.

Pengembangan Modul Stock Fulfillment Online Transaction pada Aplikasi Distribution Center System menggunakan Framework Flask di PT.XYZ

The rapid advancement of information technology necessitates that every business adapts to keep pace with technological developments. PT. XYZ, a retail and distribution company, faced challenges with their outdated technology, specifically Oracle Forms. Oracle Forms incurred high maintenance costs and was limited to running on legacy systems. Consequently, PT.XYZ decided to create a Stock Fulfillment Online Transaction module using the Flask frameworks and Python. The development process followed the Agile Scrum methodology, including stages such as requirement analysis, sprint planning, iterative development, continuous testing, and final evaluation. The outcome of this application development demonstrates that using Flask frameworks and Python allows for an application that can operate across various platforms while reducing maintenance costs.

Mobile Application for Understanding Nutritional Labeling Focused on The Consumer

Objective: In this multidisciplinary study, a mobile application was designed as a technological tool that contributes to the training of informed consumers capable of interpreting the nutritional characteristics of the products they purchase. Theoretical Framework: Mobile applications that allow to display the sodium, sugar and fat content of a product in a way that is understandable to the consumer. Additionally, an area of opportunity is evident in the way of presenting this information and in the calculation of daily energy content. Design/Methodology/Approach: The agile Scrum methodology was used. The requirements of the mobile application were obtained through user stories, which allowed two sprints to be done. The application was subjected to unit and integration testing, connectivity and functionality type. Findings: Mobile application for users of the Android operating system that allows you to read, through a smartphone, the barcode of a product on the front labeling and display the sugar, sodium and fat content; Moreover, it issues recommendations for their consumption in accordance with the FAO, WHO, UNU. Research, Practical & Social Implications: Contributes to the training of informed consumers capable of having a better interpretation of the nutritional characteristics of the products they purchase. Originality/Value: Mobile application that to scan the barcode of a product and graphically display, through teaspoons, the content in grams of sodium, sugar and calories it contains. Moreover, it calculates the daily energy content according to some variables: sex, age, weight and level of physical activity.

How to implement and evaluate with scrum methodology in business subjects - an experience in an educational innovation Project

The following paper arises from the Educational Innovation Project PIE 15-132 "Implementation and evaluation of the scrum methodology (project based learning) in the subjects of Business Creation and Management", funded by the Vice-Rectorate for Teaching and Research Staff of the University of Malaga. The idea stems from the analysis and study of the agile scrum methodology, focused on iterations and continuous reviews. The proposal consists of transferring the application of this methodology, widely used in software development environments, to subjects linked to the business environment, given the flexibility that characterises it. Its application made it possible to obtain interesting results, both related to the objectives of the subject "Business Creation", as well as others of a transversal nature, which are in great demand in today's environments.

Development of Augmented Reality Programming Language using Agile Scrum Methodology

The agile scrum methodology for augmented reality development increases project team efficiency. Private campus are frequently confronted with the dilemma of new students with various backgrounds that come not only from vocational high schools but also from high schools. First year students in the informatics study programme come not only from vocational informatics high schools, but also from high schools that specialize in social studies and languages. This is a difficult task in terms of imparting a comprehension of the fundamentals of programming. This study develops augmented reality in order to teach HTML and Javascript. By combining basic principles with gaming, the proposed augmented reality (AR) makes programming interesting. Players must comprehend their programming logic in order to be immersed in a virtual environment by answering coding bug questions. During usability testing, the System Usability Scale (SUS) assesses user happiness and AR knowledge. Participants from various programming backgrounds were tested on their knowledge of programming languages. According to usability research, 59% of people found AR programming languages useful for learning and understanding basic programming languages. AR and Agile Scrum make programming more enjoyable. This study demonstrates how augmented reality can be used to teach programming languages. These findings imply that Agile Scrum and AR methods can improve learning and programming foundations. More research and development could lead to more complete and complicated AR learning environments for programming instruction.

Abstract The aim of this article is to present monitoring system management using the AGILE SCRUM Methodology and microprocessors based systems for temperature monitorization of a grain reception base for organic wheat. In this article is presented the well-detailed proof of concept for a web-based temperature monitoring system, using Arduino and temperature sensors for temperature monitorization and AGILE SCRUM Methodology for software development management. In this way, the operators from grain reception base will be able to monitor the temperature from different halls, build from different materials, remotely.

A Digital Microintervention Supporting Evidence-Based Parenting Skills: Development Study Using the Agile Scrum Methodology.

Conduct disorder increases risks of educational dropout, future mental illness, and incarceration if untreated. First-line treatment of conduct disorder involves evidence-based parenting skills programs. Time-outs, a frequent tool in these programs, can be effective at improving behavior, and recent apps have been developed to aid this process. However, these apps promote the use of time-outs in inconsistent or developmentally inappropriate ways, potentially worsening behavior problems. Digital microinterventions like these apps could guide parents through high-quality time-outs in the moment, but current time-out apps lack features promoting adherence to the evidence-based best practice. Agile scrum is a respected approach in the software development industry. We aimed to explore the feasibility of using the agile scrum approach to build a digital microintervention to help parents deliver an evidence-based time-out. The agile scrum methodology was used. Four sprints were conducted. Figma software was used for app design and wireframing. Insights from 42 expert stakeholders were used during 3 sprint reviews. We consulted experts who were identified from councils around the Midlands region of the United Kingdom and charities through personal contacts and a snowballing approach. Over 4 development sprints from August 2022 to March 2023, the app was iteratively designed and refined based on consultation with a diverse group of 42 experts who shared their knowledge about the content of common parenting programs and the challenges parents commonly face. Modifications made throughout the process resulted in significant app enhancements, including tailored timer algorithms and enhanced readability, as well as an onboarding zone, mindfulness module, and pictorial information to increase inclusivity. By the end of the fourth sprint, the app was deemed ready for home use by stakeholders, demonstrating the effectiveness of our agile scrum development approach. We developed an app to support parents to use the evidence-based time-out technique. We recommend the agile scrum approach to create mobile health apps. Our experience highlights the valuable role that frontline health and social care professionals, particularly those working with vulnerable families, can play as experts in scrum reviews. There is a need for research to both evaluate the impact of digital microinterventions on child behavioral change and also create digital microinterventions that cater to non-English speakers and individuals who participate in parenting programs in settings outside the United Kingdom.

Seedlings Approval Request with Descriptive Analytics and Real-Time Messaging System for CENRO Bago

In response to the challenges faced by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Bago in managing seedling requests, this study presents the development of a web-based and mobile application system named "VerdeQuest." This system seeks to modernize the existing seedling request process, providing enhanced accessibility, accuracy, and security. By replacing manual logbooks and electronic spreadsheets with a comprehensive database, VerdeQuest streamlines the entire transaction of seedling requests. It features user account management, request monitoring, seedling availability tracking, statistical reporting, real-time messaging, and automated notifications. The system not only improves efficiency for CENRO Bago but also empowers requesters, which include government agencies, non-government organizations, and schools, in accessing services related to seedling requests. The study employed a constructive research methodology and followed the Agile Scrum Methodology during system development. The project demonstrates the feasibility of VerdeQuest, with an estimated payback period of 1.98 years and a system evaluation result of 2.6. In conclusion, VerdeQuest represents a significant leap forward in seedling request management, offering efficiency, data security, and ease of use, thus benefiting both CENRO Bago and its clients. The system is recommended for implementation with standard hardware specifications, hosting licensing, and potential future developments for reference.

Case study on evolution performance of agile scrum software development life cycle for shopping cart applications

This paper presents the novel agile scrum methodology for the shopping cart product. The existing software development life cycle, such as waterfall, iterative methods, and spiral life cycles, has a larger failure ratio and cost factors when a connected component fails during the execution of a product. In this paper, we devise a novel agile scrum methodology where sprint backlog and product backlog process are demonstrated with the cost and failure efficiency. The role of the scrum master, standard deviation, mean and completion and task progression are illustrated in the methodology as shown in the result discussion.

Implementation of Crowdfunding Web Application Using AWS Amplify Architecture with End-to-End Testing Using Playwright

This research aims to address the challenges in fundraising processes, which often lack systematic and transparent approaches. To overcome these issues, a web-based crowdfunding application was developed using AWS Amplify as the cloud architecture, Next.js as the web application development framework, and Playwright as the automated end-to-end testing framework. Following the Agile Scrum methodology, the application was designed to provide a convenient and secure user experience for fundraising managers, donors, and potential beneficiaries. The evaluation results showed a high user satisfaction rate of 93.29%, indicating a significant improvement in fundraising effectiveness. Furthermore, the implementation of the web application resulted in a remarkable 210% increase in fundraising efficiency within a 19-day timeframe. The end-to-end automated testing, covering 11 test scenarios on various browsers such as Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit, demonstrated successful performance within a short testing time of 1.9 minutes. These findings validate the success and benefits of the developed web application, offering improved fundraising capabilities and high user satisfaction.

A self-management psychoeducational eHealth program to support and empower people with advanced cancer and their family caregivers: Development using the scrum methodology

BackgroundeHealth programs could be a flexible and scalable resource to support and empower people with advanced cancer and their family caregivers. A face-to-face intervention that has demonstrated effectiveness is the “FOCUS” program, developed and tested in the USA. Recently the FOCUS program was translated and adapted to the European context as part of an international study in six European countries, resulting in the “FOCUS+” program. FOCUS+ served as the basis for development of the web-based iFOCUS program. ObjectiveWe aim to (1) describe the development process of the iFOCUS program, (2) outline the challenges we encountered and how they were overcome, and (3) present findings regarding the acceptability and usability of iFOCUS. MethodsWe used the four phased agile Scrum methodology to develop iFOCUS and applied set timeframes of rapid program development and evaluation (sprints). Five teams were involved in the development i.e. a core development group, a web development team, an international consortium, audio-visual experts, and potential end-users. ResultsDevelopment followed seven steps, integrated across the four phases of Scrum: (1) concept design, (2) development of mock-ups, (3) Feedback from the international consortium, (4) technical development of iFOCUS, (5) creating versions for the six participating countries, (6) preliminary testing of iFOCUS and (7) implementing the final version in a randomized controlled trial. User testing included 42 participants (twenty patient-family caregiver dyads and two bereaved family caregivers) who reviewed the iFOCUS program. Users found the iFOCUS program to be acceptable and usable. Feedback mainly focused on text size and fonts. Minor changes to the content, tailoring, and program flow were required. During development we encountered program specific and general challenges. Using the Scrum methodology facilitated iterative development to address these issues. For some challenges, such as tailoring, we had to make pragmatic choices due to time and resource limitations. Conclusions/discussionThe development of a tailored, self-managed psychoeducational eHealth program for people with advanced cancer and their family caregivers is an intense process and requires pragmatic choices. By keeping the emphasis on the target population during development, no specific remarks pertaining to advanced cancer were identified. Some challenges we encountered are common to eHealth development, others were related to program specific requirements. Using the Scrum methodology allows teams to efficiently collaborate during program development and increases the flexibility of the development process. Interpersonal contact between research staff and potential end-users is recommended during and after the development of eHealth programs.

HabitFun videogame as a tool to support the generation of good hygiene habits in elementary school children

This research addresses the development of a video game in Unity compiled for execution on devices with Android Operating System, said video game as a support tool for elementary school children to acquire good personal hygiene habits. Sometimes, children can be careless when it comes to their personal hygiene, and pediatricians recommend from a very young age the hygiene habits that they should follow daily, thus reducing the risk of contracting any disease. On the other hand, it is sought that the child is more organized, careful and self-demanding with himself. The Unity engine and the agile Scrum methodology were used for the development of the video game. Personal hygiene can be more interesting if it is taught through play, helping to demonstrate its importance, whether in the classroom or at home, children can learn about hygiene and find the right way to stay clean, neat and healthy. Therefore, the video game presents in text and audio, hygiene tips and each level is an area of the home that represents a hygiene challenge that the child must meet in order to move to the next level

Web system for vehicle management in a University Center

This article presents the development process of a web application designed to manage the entrances and exits of institutional vehicles at the University Center for Exact Sciences and Engineering of the University of Guadalajara, under the supervision of the Coordination of General Services. A detailed description of the analysis, design and development of the project is provided. The web application was developed in the Mobile Programming and Innovation Laboratory, with the purpose of digitizing and automating the vehicle registration and control process, replacing the manual filling of sheets or folios with an efficient web system. The main objective of the project was to improve the efficiency and precision in the registration of departures and returns of vehicles, through the capture, storage and consultation of various data related to drivers, vehicles, itineraries, fuel, tools and equipment, mileage, among others. Relevant aspects for vehicle control. The development of the project was carried out applying the agile SCRUM methodology, which is characterized by its focus on adaptability, iterative delivery, effective collaboration, value generation and efficient risk management. SCRUM allowed greater flexibility in development, ensuring customer satisfaction and alignment with their needs and expectations.

Design of a Mobile Application to Improve the Lifestyle of Patients with Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease that is increasing worldwide, the main causes are: a sedentary lifestyle, aging population and economic factors. On the other hand, in Peru there is also prevalence of diabetes, especially in older adults, due to this problem, in this research work a mobile application is designed to motivate and improve the state of patience with diabetes, this seeks to help these people to improve their quality of life. The Agile Scrum methodology was used for the design because of its constant meetings that better involve the team in the project, in addition to having tools that better organize the information. For the development of the design a survey was conducted to 25 university medical students, thanks to their answers we obtained the requirements of the application, which were taken as a guide to develop its functionality, finally the work includes the design of an interactive mobile application, intuitive and easy to use, in addition to having tools capable of motivating and informing the patient about diabetes.
