The article examines the processes of interaction between German professors and Russian academic reality on the example of St. Petersburg University in the first third of the XIX century. It gives a vision of life and work of the most prominent German professors, taking into account the latest historiography and little-studied unpublished sources. An attempt is made to understand the cultural and social interaction between German and local professors in the framework of University life. It is concluded that German science significantly influenced the formation of the traditions of the Russian higher school in the first third of the XIX century.
