Немецкая этноконфессиональная группа в профессорской корпорации Санкт-Петербургского университета в первой трети XIX века.

The article examines the processes of interaction between German professors and Russian academic reality on the example of St. Petersburg University in the first third of the XIX century. It gives a vision of life and work of the most prominent German professors, taking into account the latest historiography and little-studied unpublished sources. An attempt is made to understand the cultural and social interaction between German and local professors in the framework of University life. It is concluded that German science significantly influenced the formation of the traditions of the Russian higher school in the first third of the XIX century.

Long-term impact of Global Health educational experiences in Rome: an attempt of measurement

BackgroundGlobal health education (GHE) is spreading in Europe and in other parts of the world. Since 2008, Sapienza University of Rome has offered activities to medical and other health profession students related to global health (GH), which is grounded in the theory of social determinants of health and inspired by social justice. The educational activities included elective courses as well as community and service-learning experiences, referred to as GH gyms. This study attempts to measure the long-term impact of these educational experiences, especially to demonstrate their influence on the perceived social responsibility of future health professionals.MethodsA questionnaire was elaborated and tested on a small sample of participants. It was sent to participants by e-mail. Quantitative results were analysed through descriptive statistics and qualitative answers were carefully read and classified.ResultsA total of 758 students from different faculties took part to the educational experiences. Only 488 e-mail addresses were available. One hundred and five (21.5%) questionnaires were returned. Participation in GH gyms was perceived to have had a higher influence on future professional and personal choices, when compared to participation in elective GH courses.ConclusionsThe study shows that consideration of health and social issues related with inequities in health and the use of interactive teaching methodologies had important effects on social responsibility of a large number of students. As there could be a selection bias among respondents, more research is needed to understand the impact of GH educational experiences. The inclusion of global health education in health and social curricula and the use of interactive methodologies with a correct evaluation of results are the indications that emerge from this research, together with the necessity of a strong involvement of students, professors and the whole academic reality.

Gestión del Conocimiento desde una Mirada Compleja y Transdisciplinar en la Universidad Privada San Francisco de Asís – El Alto

La dinamización del contexto universitario a partir del proceso de Gestión del conocimiento en la relación contexto/realidad académica con el contexto/realidad sociocultural, conlleva a que los subsistemas internos que conforman el entorno universitario puedan promover procesos innovadores que faciliten la gestión de recursos y estrategias en pro de la gestión del conocimiento. La investigación revaloriza el conocimiento académico, inmerso en un conjunto de factores que activan el desarrollo de la sociedad, donde se dinamizan procesos de transformación de la sociedad en pro de prevenir riesgos psicosociales con acciones prácticas. implicando a toda una comunidad universitaria. La investigación tomó en cuenta el paradigma del pensamiento complejo, basado en el estudio de caso como método de investigación, utilizando la posición estratégica del investigador. La implicación de toda una comunidad universitaria, contribuye a la gestión del conocimiento que a la vez es un eje articulador que permite una amplitud en la toma de decisiones a nivel interno y posterior vinculación continua con la sociedad, convirtiendo a la universidad como espacio de referencia, gracias al vínculo contexto/realidad académica y contexto/realidad sociocultural mediados por el proceso de gestión del conocimiento basada en innovación, creatividad y promoción de procesos participativos. La gestión del conocimiento debe ser promovido de forma continua por las autoridades, acciones que facilita una gestión continua, participativa y activa; logrando implicar a todos los subsistemas que conforma la universidad, teniendo como resultado el mejoramiento de los vínculos y tipos de comunicación entre los implicados.

What is meaningful research and how should we measure it?

We discuss the trend towards using quantitative metrics for evaluating research. We claim that, rather than promoting meaningful research, purely metric-based research evaluation schemes potentially lead to a dystopian academic reality, leaving no space for creativity and intellectual initiative. After sketching what the future could look like if quantitative metrics are allowed to proliferate, we provide a more detailed discussion on why research is so difficult to evaluate and outline approaches for avoiding such a situation. In particular, we characterize meaningful research as an essentially contested concept and argue that quantitative metrics should always be accompanied by operationalized instructions for their proper use and continuously evaluated via feedback loops. Additionally, we analyze a dataset containing information about computer science publications and their citation history and indicate how quantitative metrics could potentially be calibrated via alternative evaluation methods such as test of time awards. Finally, we argue that, instead of over-relying on indicators, research environments should primarily be based on trust and personal responsibility.

O ESTÁGIO DE DOCÊNCIA NO SERVIÇO SOCIAL

O estágio de docência como parte dos programas de Pós-graduação é uma tarefa que exige uma aproximação sistemática de conhecimentos e uma reflexão que articula várias dimensões do processo formativo. Desta forma, a modalidade de estágio realizada a este nível tem como finalidade levar o/a pós-graduando/a a se inserir na realidade acadêmica por meio de uma constante aproximação às atividades diárias da docência. Assim, proporciona ao aluno maior experiência na área de ensino, da pesquisa e da formação, tornando-o mais capacitado para atuar como futuro docente após concluir sua formação acadêmica no stricto senso. Primeiramente abordaremos o contexto das pós-graduações, para assim trazer o estágio de docência nos programas de pós-graduação, depois serão expostos os aportes do Serviço Social e as regulamentações nacionais que respaldam a formação nessa área. Em seguida se analisará os aspectos pedagógicos do estágio enquanto formação profissional e se refletirá sobre pontos a considerar neste processo pedagógico, de modo a compreender os significados, os desafios e as proposições que norteiam esse espaço de aprendizado e, também, de formação crítica.

Академическая и средовая адаптация иностранных студентов медицинского вуза

<p>В статье рассматривается проблема социокультурной адаптации иностранных студентов, приезжающих на обучение в Россию в вузы медицинского профиля. На основе результатов социологического исследования, проведенного в 2019 г., изучена степень адаптивности иностранных студентов к новым социальным, культурным и академическим реалиям России. Объектом исследования выступили 75 студентов, прибывших из Египта, Индии и Ирака и обучающихся в Алтайском государственном медицинском университете.</p><p>Установлено, что наиболее важными факторами успешной адаптации к новым условиям для студента-иностранца являются преодоление языкового барьера, создание благоприятной коммуникационной системы взаимодействия, привыкание к условиям российской системы образования. Большинство респондентов сошлись во мнении, что им нравится русская культура. Данный факт может служить основой для успешной адаптации к российской действительности.</p><p>Сделан вывод о том, что процесс адаптации предполагает не только усилия личности по «присвоению» среды, но и усилия среды по бесконфликтному принятию в себя личности. Именно на этом основании речь может идти о симметричной адаптации. Результаты проведенного исследования могут быть использованы в образовательной деятельности для оптимизации процесса адаптации студентов-иностранцев.</p>

Advancing Through the Pandemic From the Perspective of Marine Graduate Researchers: Challenges, Solutions, and Opportunities

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a new social and academic reality to researchers worldwide. The field of marine science, our own topic of interest, was also impacted in multiple ways, from cancellation of lab and field activities to postponement of onboard research. As doctoral/Ph.D. researchers, we have a time-sensitive academic path, and our current situation may constrain our academic future. At the same time, the pandemic demands revised strategies to deal with the ongoing difficulties and tackle similar future situations. In this perspective, we have gathered information on the challenges, solutions and opportunities for graduate researchers in the field of marine science by 1) discussing the relevant short and long term challenges caused by the pandemic, 2) providing feasible immediate and near-future solutions, 3) compiling opportunities (courses, scientific events, academic positions) and 4) creating a shared social media platform to make the available information on new opportunities more accessible. With this, we hope to add to the efforts to advance the academic career of marine graduates during this harsh period.

Spiritual Vocation and Academic Satisfaction of Senior High School Student

Spiritual vocation is a broad concept that affects the human spirit or soul that collides the sense of connection to the people giving a bigger meaning in life. Vocation is a work that people feel to do, particularly people want to fulfill a particular role in life. Meanwhile, academic satisfaction is the whole experience of the students and also their expectation regarding to their academic reality. The study intends to assess the association between students’ spiritual vocation and academic satisfaction particularly to find out the students’ association between students’ spiritual vocation and students’ academic satisfaction. The study banked the theory proposed by John Holland titled Vocational Choice Theory and Alexander Astin titled Students Involvement Theory. This quantitative approach research used descriptive survey design used rating scale research instruments in gathering the data. The respondents of the study were the Senior High School Students with a total population of 245 but only 194 students acceded to answer. The researchers asked permission from the students to be the respondents of this research study using informed letter signed by the principal and teachers involved. The researchers provided answer sheets to the respondents to answer. The researcher gave instructions and discussed the purpose of the study before allowing the students to answer the survey questionnaires. The researchers gave at least 10 minutes to answer the questionnaire. The result of the study revealed that there is no association between the students’ spiritual vocation and academic satisfaction.

Academic Reality Check: A Fast, Free, Practical Tool for Freshmen Retention

With limited budgets and increasing enrollment demands, colleges need fast, free, and practical solutions supporting academic success and retention. The Academic Reality Check (ARC) tool helps to predict traditional freshmen awareness of their own academic expectations in college quickly, supporting the financial investment being made by all stakeholders. Similar inventories exist but they are costly, complicated, or both. The ARC tool is a valid, reliable, fast, free, and practical option. The ARC tool is available on a free website, so students, advisors, and faculty can access it easily. Students can complete the ARC tool in approximately 10 minutes and get an immediate academic success indicator score related to class attendance, attention, and note taking; time management and organization; study expectations and learning strategies; resources; and reading, writing, and homework.

Implementation model of spinoff incubator in non institutionalized universities [Modelo de implementación de incubadora spin off en universidades no institucionales

This paper aims to discuss the implementation of a business incubator model within non-institutionalized state universities that allow the development of companies managed by students. The proposal is the result of a descriptive and proactive study. For this, we have taken into account successful incubation models that can be adapted to our academic and pedagogical reality within the university system. Based on this adaptation, we can argue that it is applied.

Factores exógenos: Incidencia en el rendimiento académico

El presente artículo tiene por objetivo determinar los factores que inciden negativamente en el rendimiento de los alumnos de la Escuela Militar para el logro de sus metas y objetivos académicos del instituto, pese a la existencia de un sistema de cautela de la progresión académica orientado a evitar los fracasos académicos y deserciones voluntarias de estos. El paradigma desde el cual se enfocó el artículo corresponde a un estudio cualitativo y cuantitativo por complementar las herramientas y técnicas de recolección de información, el diseño es, especialmente, apto para el estudio de contextos educativos como el caso de la Escuela Militar y es un estudio descriptivo en el cual se realiza la contrastación teórica con una realidad académica del área en estudio. Las conclusiones obtenidas señalan cuales son los factores que afectan el rendimiento académico de los alumnos de la Escuela Militar, las recomendaciones a través de proposiciones para enfrentarlos y sus respectivas implicaciones.

Pensamento com teoria: alternativas para o campo de Relações Internacionais no Brasil e na Índia

Neste artigo, pretendemos delinear alternativas para o campo de Relações Internacionais no Brasil em um esforço comparativo com a realidade acadêmica indiana. Desde o princípio, tentamos submeter o projeto da assim chamada “Escola de Brasília” para o campo no Brasil à investigação crítica. Assim, defendemos que não é conveniente descartar totalmente as teorias de relações internacionais a fim de substituí-las pela construção de conceitos brasileiros aplicados ao campo. Em lugar disso, entendemos que seria mais complexo e rico abrir o campo ao diálogo crítico com tais teorias em uma via de mão dupla capaz de resgatar autores brasileiros clássicos com possíveis contribuições às Relações Internacionais. Na Índia, uma nova geração de acadêmicos de RI está atualmente defendendo o diálogo entre as teorias ocidentais e as tradições conceituais hinduístas. Eles querem evitar os reveses paroquiais envolvidos nas escolas nacionais de RI. Consideramos que podemos ter muito a aprender com eles se almejamos abrir o campo de RI no Brasil.

Censo socioeconômico dos discentes do curso de administração de uma universidade pública na cidade de Sousa- PB

O objetivo do presente artigo é apresentar o resultado de uma investigação sobre aspectos da realidade social, cultural e acadêmica dos discentes do Curso de Administração do Centro de Ciências Jurídicas e Sociais da Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, Sousa, Paraíba e dessa forma traçar o perfil socioeconômico dos referidos alunos. A metodologia utilizada para este trabalho se deu através de pesquisa descritiva e exploratória. O universo da pesquisa foram todos os alunos matriculados ativamente no Curso. Concluiu-se que a maior parte do universo é do sexo masculino, tem entre 16 e 27 anos, é considerada branca e parda, solteiro, mora em casa ou apartamento, reside ainda com a família, estudou integralmente em escola pública. Possui como renda, menos de 1 a 2 salários mínimos, exerce função no setor privado, na área do comércio. Entre os assuntos de maior interesse dos alunos, questões relativas a serviços públicos e a situação econômica do país, se destacaram.

Clinical research updates.

This new section gives clinicians a helicopter view of new clinically relevant research. My hope is that it builds a bridge between academic graft and clinical reality. Clinicians are occasionally berated for giving care that is not evidence‐based. Academic culture, on the other hand, is sometimes criticized for ignoring the needs of real‐world patients, not to mention real‐world clinicians. This section aspires to address that chasm, by directing readers to papers focused on clinical questions.

Passion and researcher’s identity

Summary The aim of the article is to analyse various contexts of passion perceived as an important component of researcher’s identity. First, passion is confronted with the concept if rationality which dominates the university thinking about research. Second, passion is considered in relations to intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Next, the author concentrates attention on factors which limit the passion development: present commercialization of research as well as their permanent indexation and evaluation, re-locating the researcher’s energy on permanent reporting and detailed juridization of academic reality. At the end the possibility of passion in contemporary research is optimistically confirmed by the idea of academic community and academic freedom.

Teza: Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia genezę i krótki zarys historii rozwoju ruchu studenckiego w Ameryce i Wielkiej Brytanii oraz jego wizerunek w filmach z gatunku college movies, które pojawiły się w XX wieku, głównie w Ameryce.
 Omówione koncepcje: Zagadnienia dotyczące przynależności do korporacji studenckich, klubów sportowych i uczestnictwa w innych zajęciach nadobowiązkowych znalazły odzwierciedlenie w filmach z wyżej wymienionego gatunku.
 Wyniki i wnioski: W filmach studenckich odzwierciedlane są głównie bractwa i działalność sportowa. Natomist uczestnictwo w wydawaniu gazet i czasopism w kampusach, od lat 30-tych i 50-tych XX wieku, w klubach muzycznych i teatralnych, samorządzie studenckim oraz zaangażowanie w działalność polityczną są zazwyczaj wątkami pobocznymi w stosunku do głównej fabuły. Przedstwiony wizerunek jest więc niepełny i streotypowy, co ma znaczący wpływ na postrzeganie anglosaskiej rzeczywistości akademickiej przez społeczności na całym świecie.
 Oryginalność/wartość poznawcza podejścia: Przegląd dostępnej literatury związanej z tematem pozwala wyciągnąć wniosek, że dotychczasowe badania nie analizowały zbiorczo przykładów z kina amerykańskiego i brytyjskiego i nie porównywały ich z rzeczywistym wizerunkiem. Zagadnienia te są przedmiotem szerszych badań na temat wizerunku środowiska akademickiego i uniwersytetu jako instytucji na podstawie wybranych brytyjskich i amerykańskich utworów literackich z gatunku powieści akademickiej/kampusowej jak i filmów typu „college movies”, w większości należących do kina amerykańskiego, oraz poszukiwań śladów powieści akademickiej w literaturze polskiej i kinie polskim.

The Creativity-Verification Cycle in Psychological Science: New Methods to Combat Old Idols

Over the years, researchers in psychological science have documented and investigated a host of powerful cognitive fallacies, including hindsight bias and confirmation bias. Researchers themselves may not be immune to these fallacies and may unwittingly adjust their statistical analysis to produce an outcome that is more pleasant or better in line with prior expectations. To shield researchers from the impact of cognitive fallacies, several methodologists are now advocating preregistration—that is, the creation of a detailed analysis plan before data collection or data analysis. One may argue, however, that preregistration is out of touch with academic reality, hampering creativity and impeding scientific progress. We provide a historical overview to show that the interplay between creativity and verification has shaped theories of scientific inquiry throughout the centuries; in the currently dominant theory, creativity and verification operate in succession and enhance one another’s effectiveness. From this perspective, the use of preregistration to safeguard the verification stage will help rather than hinder the generation of fruitful new ideas.

7. Actividades Agro - Académicas del IPB: Visión Prospectiva, Desarrollo Endógeno Y Responsabilidad Social Universitaria

Esta investigación de campo con características descriptivas, explicativas y prospectivas, tiene naturaleza cuantitativa fundamentada en el paradigma positivista. Su propósito fue conocer la realidad agro – académica de la Unidad de Producción Agropecuaria del IPB, para anticipar el futuro y precisar las acciones en la consolidación de un verdadero centro de enseñanza; considerando el desarrollo endógeno y la responsabilidad social universitaria. La población y muestra la integraron los directivos del Pedagógico, el coordinador y obreros de la Unidad y sus comunidades adyacentes; coordinador, docentes y alumnos de Educación Agropecuaria. La recolección, análisis, validación y presentación de resultados, utilizó el método prospectivo. Se conoció la realidad y generó un modelo, el cual se sugiere aplicarlo, definir la visión y misión, incorporar las comunidades a la universidad, ofrecer educación óptima y gestionar recursos económicos en todos los niveles.

Literature and Bullying: Teenage and Children Novels on School Bullying Prevention

Juvenile delinquent or deviant behavior appears in various forms in modern academic reality. It is widely known under the international term "school bullying". The systemic view of an educational organization as it studies the variety of school and social system parameters that explain and contribute to the emergence of problematic behaviors in schools positively contributes to a better understanding of that behaviors considered within the framework of interactions that generate and reproduce it. Qualitative literary works, by which this phenomenon is approached in a novel way and the "omnipotent narrator" dominates, provide the possibility of a holistic and systemic view and indirect aids in strategies for preventing, detecting and curing the offending incidents in modern schools. The purpose of this paper is to connect the phenomenon of bullying appearing in teenage and children novels with the way that texts could illuminate and enlighten youth consciousness in order to become safe guides or useful paradigms in their everyday life. The texts examined under present study are the novels (a) Thirteen Reasons Why, by Jay Asher (b) Finding Audrey, by Sophie Kinsella and (c) Together, by Eleni Priοvolou.

Do english-language newspapers make universities prestigious?

AbstractThis study investigated whether English-language news media, which increased coverage of two large, well known private universities in Japan, increased their salience in the minds of international residents in Japan. Based on the agenda-setting theory of media influence, the authors made use of university enrollment trends as an indicator of public salience and found that the English-language media contributed to the growing prestige of the universities among the non-Japanese population. Academic reality in Japan underwent little change during that period with the top ranking government-funded universities, whose coverage in the English-language media did not increase, remained more prestigious within the local context, as is evident from local university rankings. This study also demonstrates that the media can exert an agenda-setting influence on institutions of higher learning, a domain that has not been traditionally investigated. The study also addresses the influences of the international, English-language press in the context of a non-English speaking country, Japan, and how the, “need for orientation” (NFO), might have been a factor.
