Abstract

A diamond/HoF3/diamond composite film (DHDCF) electroluminescent device was prepared on a highly doped n-type silicon substrate by plasma chemical vapor deposition system and electron beam vacuum evaporation system. The films were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy spec-troscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and EL spectrum. Luminescence characteristics of the DHDCF devices were tested, and the results show that three peaks appear at 420 nm, 604 nm and 708 nm. The luminescence of the device is white when observed with the naked eye. The luminescence originates from the discrete lumi-nescence center of Ho3+ ion. The diamond film can effectively stimulate Ho3+ ions and promote the luminescence of Ho3+ ions.
