Abstract

The article ‘Physics in higher education’ (Physics Bulletin February 1988 p63), like so many others on the same subject, seems to miss one important issue. Having regularly discussed this subject with engineering colleagues, I find that very few would advise an 18 year–old to take physics or engineering, due to the higher rewards offered in other areas.
