Abstract

This article discusses lexical equivalence between the target language and the source language from the point of view of language system. It argues that it is important for dynamic lexical translation to approach language as an adaptive semiotic system. The use of units borrowed from the source language in translation to the target language is based on the relation between lexical units in the two languages and on contextual features. The article discusses some aspects and examples of the use of English borrowings in translation from English into Russian.1
