Abstract

Who should attend Simulation Faculty invited from a range of multiprofessionals wanting to bring sexual health conversations in to a simulation scenario, day or programme. Level Introductory to Advanced session. Background Across the UK and London the areas of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham have the highest prevalence of STIs (sexually transmitted infections), HIV and teenage conception. This same region has a high prevalence of serious mental illness, substance misuse and learning disability. The SHRINE (Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, Inclusion and Empowerment) Project was launched in May 2016 as a 3 year initiative to deliver and evaluate sexual and reproductive health in these latter groups. In combination with Maudsley Simulation a one day immersive experiential course was developed to expand sexual and reproductive health training. Key aims of the course included collaborative inter-professional practice in reviewing unmet sexual and reproductive health needs. Developing skills and confidence in assessment including risk assessment and use of care pathways. The workshop falls on the backdrop of the SHRINE project to consider how other institutions can bring sexual health conversations in to their simulation strategy. Dr Camilla Tooley is the current course lead and developer for the SHRINE simulation day at Maudsley simulation, a doctor in psychiatry training and a trained relationship therapist for Relate. Dr Lorena Valdearenas created the first version simulation course, is a General Adult Psychiatrist and associative faculty member for Maudsley Simulation. Intended learning outcomes Consider background learning needs for sexual health conversations in your department or across your institution Understand subtleties of simulated scenarios including sexual health content Start formulation of your own simulation scenarios Develop networks with other specialists in your field Identify strategies for barriers to sexual health training. Structure of workshop Introductions Context of SHRINE project explored Group Introductions Facilitated Group work considering Learning Needs Facilitated Group work considering formation of simulated scenarios Case examples from group and from SHRINE project brought to wider discussion Networking and Close. Educational methods to be used Facilitated Group work Video Brainstorming Exercises Powerpoint presentation.
